I had a lot of lofty goals for 2020, and almost none of them came true. Throughout my entire MA, when things got tough, I would think: well, I just need to get to 2020 and then my real life will begin. 🙃 throughout this chaotic year, I’ve learned that you can’t rush your life, I’ve further distilled what I want out of career (even if i still don’t have a full time job), and I’ve continued to figure out who I want to be. I don’t want this year to feel like just a stopgap, so I made a list of good things about the year: I read 65 books, fell in love with Old Hollywood film, found a family in my bookstore coworkers, made some yummy meals, myself & my family stayed relatively healthy, started a few pen pal correspondences (with Rachel Syme’s #penpalooza!), started to learn how to play chess, and stayed in touch with some dear, dear friends. in 2021 I want to continue my pen pal correspondence, continue learning chess, read 50 books, continue to watch old films, and find some semblance of contentment. no matter where you go, you’re always there with yourself, and I’ve discovered that I need to prioritize my own mental health & well-being. good riddance, 2020! onwards & upwards, 2021 ✨🎉
