elia martell character of all time because she was playing the game of thrones AND WINNING — survived aerys, set up an alternate court on dragonstone, universally beloved even by most of robert’s anti-targ regime, was probably at least angling to get rid of aerys — but the literal song of ice and fire was being written around her and well. you can’t outrun your inevitable doom.

like. that’s elia’s tragedy, and what makes me so insane about her. she was in the wrong story. she was playing the game of court politics but ended up yoked to 300 years of targaryen collapse and dynastic rot instead. there’s nothing i love more than characters doing their best with the pieces they can see on the board, while the fact slowly dawns on them that the board is in the process of being swallowed by an eldritch monster.

Aww that is so sweet anon. I support this and think it's lovely but I actually feel a different way about it. However, instead of writing the reasons why, it actually inspired me to write a little ficlet based on my thoughts about Tyrion and Viserion and Tysha. It's in the universe of a Tyrion/Tysha fic I am working on if you are interested:

But basically Tyrion considers the idea of renaming Viserion Tysha. but ultimately decides not to do it for reasons that are explained in the ficlet. Dany Month Day 19

“The battle was followed by the day's first folly, a tilt between a pair of jousting dwarfs, presented by one of the Yunkish lords that Hizdahr had invited to the games. One rode a hound, the other a sow. Their wooden armor had been freshly painted, so one bore the stag of the usurper Robert Baratheon, the other the golden lion of House Lannister. That was for her sake, plainly. Their antics soon had Belwas snorting laughter, though Dany's smile was faint and forced. When the dwarf in red tumbled from the saddle and began to chase his sow across the sands, whilst the dwarf on the dog galloped after him, whapping at his buttocks with a wooden sword, she said, ‘This is sweet and silly, but …’

‘Be patient, my sweet,’ said Hizdahr. ‘They are about to loose the lions.’

Daenerys gave him a quizzical look. ‘Lions?’

‘Three of them. The dwarfs will not expect them.’

She frowned. ‘The dwarfs have wooden swords. Wooden armor. How do you expect them to fight lions?’

‘Badly,’ said Hizdahr, ‘though perhaps they will surprise us. More like they will shriek and run about and try to climb out of the pit. That is what makes this a folly.’

Dany was not pleased. ‘I forbid it.’

‘Gentle queen. You do not want to disappoint your people.’

‘You swore to me that the fighters would be grown men who had freely consented to risk their lives for gold and honor. These dwarfs did not consent to battle lions with wooden swords. You will stop it. Now.’” -ADWD, Daenerys IX

Jocie was patiently waiting for Penny in the courtyard of the Red Keep. She was curious as to why the youngest Greyjoy wanted to meet her there and asked her to bring Lyla along. She hadn’t had much time or opportunities to interact with her before. It was neither’s fault, though. They had run into each other a few times in the halls of the Red Keep, but those little encounters were always casual. Nothing big. Just some “hellos” and “good mornings”.

That was, of course, until this one.

In truth, Jocie was always curious about Penny. Not in a jealous way, of course, she was perfectly fine with Visenya being friends with her, as well. Her curiosity came from a place of genuine interest. She wanted to get to know her better, but her awkwardness always stroke when she tried to start a conversation.

But not today. Today was the day in which she finally would talk to Penny Greyjoy, other than their usual “hellos” and “good mornings”.

Suddenly, Lyla started to bark at the distance and she turned around. Jocie, then, saw Penny coming in her direction with not one, nor two, but three dogs. One seemed like an old hunting hound, the other seemed like a Jack Russell terrier, and the last one seemed like a rare breed from Essos.

She waved her hand at Penny and she waved back. Then, she carried Lyla in her arms, so she wouldn’t run off. Once the youngest Greyjoy was in front of her, she gave her a shy “hello” and smiled, hoping that it wasn’t too awkward.
