welcome to the twenty-sixth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

Lance feels a little jarred when he sees nothing friendly in the suitemate’s eyes, and then foolish. He scrambles to find something to say. “Do you have any rules?" Keith’s eyes darken. “Yeah. Don’t bother me this semester. Or ever.”

-- Accident-prone Lance McClain learns that his grumpy suitemate, Keith, has one rule: to leave him alone. Lance would really like to follow that rule. Really. But his clumsiness has other plans.

any fic that uses the Lance is a Ray of Sunshine tag is a fave of mine bc he is. i loved how in this one keith called lance sweet, not like an adjective but as a petname?? anyways it killed me and it made lance melt as you might have guessed. i loved it

2. Shiro, You Ignorant Slut by notverystraight

“I like Keith,” Lance blurted suddenly.

Shiro blinked. “Oh.” Not exactly the revelation he’d been expected. “He likes you, too.”

- In which Shiro accidentally reveals Keith and Lance’s feelings for each other… without even knowing about them in the first place.

god bless fics that write shiro as the dorky dumbass he is. he WOULD be the one to spill the beans without knowing that there are even beans to be spilled. i love him

Day 15. Flustered

5 +1 Fives times in which Lance is flustered by Keith during their relationship, with it steadily shifting from more innocent things as it continues. And one time in which he gets back at Keith.

this mostly isnt explicit, its mostly just klance turning their relationship into a competition lol. they also spend a significant amount of time embarrassing their friends which is excellent

Keith sat at the dock, glaring at the water, wearing only his speedos. It was a bright, warm, and sunny day, with slight enough of a breeze to keep the worst of the heat away. Not like Keith cared or anything like that, of course, but…

this fic made me LAUGH. like literally out loud. let me introduce yall to my favourite part:

And that’s when it happens.

A familiar gloved hand comes into view, pale fingers pushing back Lance’s fringe with a soft groan, and Hunk realizes that Lance's mouth is currently preoccupied and will not be able to respond. But it’s too late because Hunk’s already opened his own mouth to speak.

“Hey Lance, Allura wants to– hoLY F- oh yup okay that’s definitely a dick, goodbye I’m gonna erect myself out of- eject! - eject myself out of the airlock now.”

He turns on his heel and speed walks the fuck out, and even Yellow is sending him questioning concern that tingles the corners of his mind (though it’s tinged with amusement, the filthy traitor) and he ignores Lance’s choking and coughing and swearing.

He also chooses to ignore Keith’s mortified cry of his name along with “wait-!” because no Keith, why the fuck would he wait?!

‘Oh sorry, let me just pause in my desperate attempt at fucking off for a moment so you can remove your genitals from the back of my best friend’s throat and try and convince me that your penis was checking for cavities’.

like holy shit 😭😭 words cannot express how out of pocket this whole fic is like i genuinely cannot read it without smiling

Just something a lil cute today. Well, cute as far as Hannigram goes. You know them - there’s gonna be a bit of murder and/or depravity no matter how fluffy things get, lol.

This one is sweet. A classic post-fall, getting together fic. As you’d expect, there’s angst, and feelings, and a light dash of murder. It’s Will’s story to tell, and it’s a great peek into his psyche after the fall. Nothing too extravagant; it’s not meant to be an in-depth character study. It’s just here to be a nice little fic. Also some great smut at the end. It was a long time coming, but so very worth it.

Also, bonus transmasc Will content! I love a good trans headcanon, but I especially love it when it’s not the focus. Don’t get me wrong - if you make something that shouts loud and proud that “THIS CHARACTER IS TRANS,” I love it. And you. But I also love it when their being trans is just… there, you know? It’s just another random part of their character, not more or less important than their eye color or haircut. And Will being trans here is almost incidental. The characters don’t make a big deal out of it (to be fair to them, they were focusing on other things. Seriously at that point, Will could have had vagina dentata or a tentacle penis or something and Hannibal wouldn’t have batted an eye.) and neither should the reader. I adore any form of trans!Will I can get.

This one is so sweet. A nice little piece of fluff to start February.

"Jack. WHAT THE HELL?"

Wheejack beamed. "That, young Spike, is a Phallic Exoskeletal Non-procreative Intercourse Simulator."

Spike sat down ... or rather fell down ... hard, on his ass. He couldn't say anything for several moments.

Finally he stammered, "A penis. You have invented a mech penis."

"Yes, Spike. Isn't it wonderful? I've used the data from the advanced sensor suite I had installed in Carly's quarters, so I could closely monitor both of your physiological responses when you engage in intercourse that serves no procreative function!"

Nick Fic Recs

I don’t quite know how I managed to get so lucky on Friday 13th of all days, but I feel properly spoiled with two new gift fics on AO3. After last night’s wild ride at the O2, I woke up to a shitty anon and thought it would be one of those days, but it turns out it’s a very, very good day! One of my favourite people and writers in Harry Potter fandom, @shiftylinguini, has been falling down the Grimmy and 1D rabbit hole and it’s been so much fun chatting about all of the things. ALL OF THE THINGS. Linguini is an amazing writer and obviously when she put out a call for prompts I had to prompt Tomlinshaw and looooooook at what happened. ‘Constantly on the Cusp’ is absolutely stellar. Hot, feelsy and so perfectly Tomlinshaw. There’s prickly but soft Louis, mouthy and confident but insecure Nick and the wonderful, angsty kind of Tomlinshaw humour and self-deprecation that makes this ship such catnip for me. I absolutely love it and highly recommend checking it out. 

THEN. Then there’s this wonderful, hot, angsty, tense, complicated and delicious piece of Gryles ‘Gonna Dream of How You’ from another one of my favourite writers @jiksax who always nails it (heh) and this time is no exception. Yelling about Gryles with Jiksa started with a trip to a little pub in Primrose Hill with another one of my fave people and writers @daretomarvel and a few days after that, a bottle of penis grigio (seriously, that’s what the wine was called) and more yelling at Harry and Nick on the Beeb. Yesterday we got to drink wine and yell at each other again, which is an excellent way to spend an evening. The best. As with so many of Jiksa’s fics, this manages to pack such an impressive punch and not a single word goes to waste. It’s inspired by yesterday’s concert, a typo in a group chat and Medicine, and it’s gloriously hot and full of feels. Brilliant, as ever.

Fanfiction Vocab

As anyone who follows my main blog knows, I have a definite shipper bias. I actually became interested in the language while searching for endearments I could have Spock say to Jim in my fanfiction. Whoever you ship, if a Vulcan is included and you create fanworks, it can be really interesting to include some Vuhlkansu.

So for a fun post on this early-summer Friday (at least in my part of the world), I’ve compiled a list of vocabulary and phrases that might be relevant to shippers and fanfiction writers.
