The third? Well, she told Jason every chance she could just how much she truly loved him.

We need to appreciate that they did not make Peggy Carter a sexless. uptight, stick-up-her-ass British stereotype but instead gave her sexual tension with every character in the series

We never go out of style ✨ / Marvel Fanfic
Aka JJ & Peggy have a little chat over the phone in a hospital room
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Timeline: From Age Of Ultron to Civil War
Warning: Old Lady Peggy Carter coming to swoon a few hearts ♥️ She is in her 60s-early 70s
@gcthvile - Elizabeth Stark mentioned ✨
Characters mentioned: Howard, Tony, Jarvis and etc
++—++—-
The hospital has not been a favorable place to be in. Even a nursing home wasn’t sure of the difference between both anymore. But either way they both brought back daring memories and darling one.
Like when Tony was born
Or Hank’s only kid was brought into the world
And for better or worse, seeing Miss Margaret Carter in and out of hospital for different occasions. Some were good like the birth of her children and others were odder cases like an injury or two.
Today, it was a hospital but other people like to called a nursing home.
The nursing home has been brighter more days than not, having new paint jobs done and welcoming decorations put up during special events. Especially a simple well designed holiday.
Plus it helped that the people working there were kind young folk like himself, aside from the adults in their 30s and 40s.
He made his way holding up a beauty of a bouquet filled with daisies and a small little teddy bear holding a heart. He knew it was cheesy but anything to put a smile on the lady he was going to see.
His lady.
The founder of the very organization he sweetly applied to help protect.
The women who drive him nuts and who he loves to annoy just to see her crack a smile.
Mrs. Margaret Carter. Peggy. His Peg.
He knocked on the door, opening it with a soft smile saying, “Where’s my favorite lady? I sorta owe her a date night.”
“Aww my knight in shining armor.” She chuckled in her bed, her curls loosen and smile lines more promptly found, “Your a sap darling.”
“I know but you love me for it.”
“Sadly I do.”
“Sadly?!”
That caused Peggy to laugh at his reaction, patting the bed to sit down next to her. And he happily followed suit, lazily wrap an arm around her, smiling.
“How you doing, doll?” He asked with a soft grin, “Hit anyone lately?”
She playfully slapped his chest and grins, “No. I’m an angel here, they treat me right. I got chicken and white rice today. Yesterday it was Ham.”
“Oh lucky girl you can treated like royalty. Can I stay with you? Technically I should be here with you.”
“No, you wouldn’t like it. You will get bored and impatient here, my darling. You’re time will come, I promised.”
“Nah babe, I kinda stopped looking to see what happened and how I can fix everything.”
“You know, our very own godson suggested you drive off a bridge and see what happened for science purposes once.”
“He’s trying to kill his old man with that scientific idea.”
The two of them laughed out loud at that. He handed her a glass of water, just in case she ended up with a coughing fit but he was lucky, she didn’t.
“How are your kids?” Jason asked with a smile.
“Oh Thomas is good, working on his degree and Lilly is working at the children’s hospital downtown today with her sister.” Peggy explained, “They called and talked for hours.”
“Aww.”
“I wish Tony called or visited me. I’ll pull him by the damn ear one of theses days, i don’t care if he’s grown!”
“Go ahead I ain’t stopping you! You’re his godmother.”
“…I miss this. I miss you, why do you come and see my more often? Like twice a month.”
He sighed, “I’m sorry, I will make it a habit to do so, I promise.”
“Good, because if it was the other way around..” She started but didn’t have to finish her sentence cause he knew.
“I know you would and I love you for it.”
“You Muppet…You know I was always fond of your sister.”
Over the years the older she got, Peggy developed this small habit to ending up randomly blurting out a comment which lead to a different perspective on things or a completely new conversation in general.
He never minded it. He loved it actually, since it showed her mind was still fired up with things to say and she would say her mind no matter what. Especially if it was a witty one hand comment or clever wording on a subject.
It was a good thing as well considering her Alzheimer’s made her forget things, faces and relive memories in her head. So seeing her ramble on a topic, made him smile, because it showed that she’s doing fine.
And due to him spending so much time around her and their friend group, he developed the odd but silly little habit too.
“Oh how so?” He questioned with a smile, surprised that she remembered Dottie that well but then again, she was a chancing point for the brunette.
“She had a special spunkiest to her that I adored.” She exclaimed, with a grin as if she’s looking into a memory, “Gorgeous, honestly a brilliant blonde and she was crazy about me.”
“Ohh really now?”
“Oh please as if you didn’t know. Dottie kept me on my toes and I would say there was a certain amount of chemistry there. She kissed me and it was unexpected but..I sorta liked it.”
He mocked gasped, “Margaret Carter! You shady lady. How long have you had theses thoughts about my sister?”
Peggy smirked, “She only ever asked to be interrogated by me and it made me feel impressed that she respected me.”
“You hated her!”
“But it was rather refreshing chance of cat and mouse between us!”
“She was obsessed with you.”
“And with good reason.”
“Margaret!”
“Hey! You like my friends. Angie was your favorite.”
“She’s was a peach, stubborn, playful and a little snappy. I liked it. But it’s my sister we’re taking about!”
“Oh hush! Let me have my fun memories.”
“Yes ma’am. Go ahead and keep those memories.”
~~~
That’s when Peggy went into another memory that was sweet but stung a little for Jason.
Elizabeth Stark.
Howard’s sister and a love in his life.
Yes, he loved Angie and then Violet for plenty of years. But with her, it was different. Cozy even.
The one that got away from him, that he never got a chance to see if those feeling could actually take full force due to respect he had for brother.
Yes, him and Elizabeth over the years have sneaked off to test out a few short lived dates but it didn’t last long. Even a couple of shared kisses underneath the mistletoe during Christmas were made.
But he always assumed she liked other people in the end and he respected her too much to string her along. So he let her do her own thing and he went along to do his own.
Even though he lived together, raised their nephew under the same roof and saved one another life a plenty of times. They never actually got together, where marriage could’ve been involved one day.
But he did have a promise ring in which he gave her the day before they lost her. She died with that diamond wrapped around her finger and he was left with the tiny box.
And here was Peggy talking about her, as if she was still alive in front of them. It made him smile brightly that her spirt lived on forever.
“You love her?” She asked, resting her head on a pillow watching him pace the room for another glass of water.
He handed her a glass and nodded, “Of course i do. We both love her.”
“It hurts she went down that day…”
“I know Peg, but she still lives on in spirt.”
“..would you have married her?”
“I..”
“Grey.”
She used the nicknamed on him. His middle name is Grey, which is one of many nicknames people refer to him as such but Peggy used it catch his attention at times and she prefer it a lot more.
“Grey.” She repeated with a soft smile, sipping her water.
“I think so.” He replied with a smile.
“Good. I want to be there as the maid of honor when it happens.”
“Maid of honor?”
“Well, I most definitely won’t be standing on your side of the alter, now would I?”
“You sounded so British right now, you know that?”
“I’ll take that as a compliment my darling.”
He grinned and shook his head, “You’re like the sister I never had.”
“You do have a sister.” She added with a grin.
“Did I stutter, Ms. Carter?”
“Oh. Well aren’t you cheeky today? I like it!”
“But I’m serious, you’re like a big sister to me.”
She smiled as she blushed, “Aw darling stop. No please go on, I didn’t think you thought of me that way. I assumed you did but never actually thought it would be confirmed.”
“Oh of course I have. Dottie never treated me like she should have, nor loved me a way a big sister should, leaving me in the dust to pick up the pieces but you didn’t.” He added with a smile.
“You know, after Micheal I never thought I would have anyone else.”
“Hmm.”
“But then you and Howard came along, I felt almost whole. You’re like the little brother, my mother never gave me because she thought two nutty children were enough!”
“Oh really?”
He couldn’t contain his laughter at her sudden choice of words at the end as she smiled laughing around, feeling sportful. She toss a pillow across his face to shut him up as she laughed smirking at the sight of spilled water all over his shirt.
~~~
Yup they were like siblings, despite never actually saying the word out loud before until now. They didn’t have to say they acted like brother and sister, they just did. Every fight, every save, every argument they had and even the small moments between the built a united bond between the pair. Each hug, hand hold and even looks they shared meant more than words combined.
They lost many people over the years, either by death or losing touch due to some kind of issue. They have faced a lot together, she couldn’t imagine a world without Jason in it. After the war, Peggy felt lost and undersign by others, reduced to a lousy sectary or told she wasn’t much less than Captain America’s little lady.
A part of her almost believed it for some time until Howard, Elizabeth and Jason stepped in. 3 of the only people who believed in her at the time.
Yes she knew the three of them for a while but it was Jason who was working at the SSR alongside her with Mr. Jarvis, who fought to keep her on payroll. Encouraging her to keep going, fighting in restaurants together, saving each other’s skin and just having another person to talk to. She didn’t know she needed that at the time. Hell, when Jarvis wasn’t around, he cleaned up her wounds.
But Peggy wouldn’t lie about the times she wanted to punch the blonde for doing something stupid or saying something he shouldn’t have admitted in the first place. She even slapped him a couple of times over the years with a glare.
He would tease her about something like a crush saying she blushed and she would raise an eyebrow yelling, ‘I beg your pardon! I did not do such a thing.’ Or when they would mock each other’s accents in annoyance of the other person.
She didn’t even realized she had a goofy little grin on her face until Jason pointed it out. She rolled her eyes and smiled replying, “I was thinking about all the times you mocked me.”
“I never mocked you. Okay, maybe? Or twice..” He admitted chuckling knowing the truth to that query.
“You would mock me behind my back and I’ll always walk in and catch you.”
“It’s because you always had to make a point or worse run into danger.”
He mocked her English accent stupidly as she gasped, “Good lord man! I don’t sound like that.”
“Oh really? ‘Mr. Jarvis was with me. We’re completely fine!’, ‘I was merely getting the job done.’ Oh and my all time favorite, ‘I made a horrible decision. When’s lunch?’.”
“I hate you. I don’t sound like that and I never treated Jarvis like that!”
“You once came home and Jarvis was hit in the back with a dart, that knocked him out cold.”
“He was fine!”
“He was hilariously asleep and thought he was hallucinating ponies for the rest of the afternoon.”
“To be fair, for being my right hand he wasn’t the best for escaping targets..”
“He said and I quote, ‘Oh mummy it's the biggest horsey ever!’”
That got a real laugh out of Peggy as she remembered it so clearly, Jarvis was laying down on the couch with his eyes closed after saying, ‘Jarvelous!’ Then he fell right on the thick ground outside of the house, afterward they brought him inside to see if he was aright. Which he wasn’t.
Jason and Daniel questioned the situation saying she should’ve called for backup as she told them, ‘I did have back up. Mr. Jarvis was with me!’
Cue in, Jarvis lazily laying down on the couch pointing his finger muttering ever so clearly, ‘Oh mummy, it’s the biggest horsey ever!’
Jason couldn’t help but snorted as he got flashbacks of the memories in his head. Him and Peggy also remember the time Jarvis knocked over a two time Oscar nominee, Whitney Frost, with one of Howard’s precious car.
Elizabeth was just in shock as Howard looked out the window and yelled, ‘Jarvis, you just hit a woman with my car!’
‘I know, sir’ Edwin Jarvis said with a simple tone.
‘She’s a two-time Oscar nominee.’
‘Miss Frost is quite resilient. She’s fine. Trust me.’
He laughed remembering the look that Elizabeth and Peggy shared conveying shock but with a mix of pride towards the accident. They were all almost sued for it though but then again the women caused them so many issues and she basically killed her husband. With was also deemed as Jarvis’ revenge on the same women who came to their home and shoot his wife—Ana Jarvis lived of course, with a few minor yet sad complications to her surgery—but still!
Everything was fine after that, she was put always for good for her insane behavior and things slowly went back to normal for a while.
~~
Jason and Peggy spent the rest of the day together in her hospital room chatting, drinking gentle coffees and snacking on the fruits that were served to her room. On occasion, a call from friends or relatives would appear to be made, but it wasn’t immediately apparent what was being said over the phone.
The two of them even stayed in peaceful silence as they watched whatever was available on the tv screen.
All in all, it was nice.
They may be old enough and oddly fit for this position in the universe but they wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thank you for reading this! Pretty please let me know what you think 💭

Can I request a Peggy Sykes x female reader? I just watched Pennyworth and she has my whole heart even though she and bet are sorta 💫💫🫨🫠
Mad World Part I (Margaret "Peggy" Sykes x Fem! Reader)
Tumblr media
Author's note: Thank you so much for requesting. It means the "world" to me 😉. I will certainly make a Pennyworth masterlist in due time.
Summary: In the middle of your class game, you just caught a glimpse of a green suit in the mix of the disarray of people. You lock eyes with the most gorgeous person you've ever seen. Of course, a formal introduction will have to take place.
Warning(s): flirty! Reader, smoking, brief fighting, gun(s), your a hoot, womanizer?, slight delusions, you may be crazy?, good siblings, more to be added
The MAIN masterlist
You sat there playing a chess game in the park with another person. Someone you earnestly don't even know. They just approached you and asked if you wanted to play. A little girl. Well you honestly couldn't turn her down cause her eyes shone with brightness, something in this world that you want to see again.
Being a Lady in this society was quite overwhelming. Your husband died long ago. You grew tired of his constant nagging about traveling and such other things that he would go on and on about. You had no children and that was one of the topics that he would constantly bring up. Saying how infertile you were and how you would die in a canal somewhere. Honestly, the nerve of some men. But it didn't last long until he dropped dead at the dinner table into his food. You sipped away at your drink and sighed. Freedom at it's best.
"Your move." The little girl spoke as you stared at the board in front of the both of you.
"Yes, my apologies." You smiled at the beaming little redhead.
It made you wonder where her mother was. Or her parent. Surely, enough they won't be far. Today is gloomy as always. Mobs on the street protesting about Lord Harwood and Salt and other people. In some conversations, you caught the names of the Sykes sister's, Alfred, and even the Martha Kane.
You moved your queen one square to the right checkmating her king. No other possibilities of getting out of checkmate, the little girl sighed and knocked over her king.
"I yield." she said making you smile.
"You know, your actually pretty good at chess. What is your name by the way?"
"Samantha. But everyone calls me Sammy and yours?"
"Y/n L/n" You smiled as you extended your arm. You chuckled at how wide her eyes got as she realized who you were. "You mean you live in that big house by yourself?" Her hands were very small compared to yours.
"Well, yes it does get quite lonely." You slumped your shoulders as you thought about the house and how everything had just lost it's lost. You parent's were actually quite good people. Investing in such things that'll bring happiness to little one's and you vowed to do the same.
"Say, why don't you come and visit sometime? Maybe I can teach you a thing or two about chess?" You smiled showing your pearly whites.
"Let me go get my mom." Sammy giggled and ran off without putting away her chess pieces and boards, she was going to be back anyways. The slight breeze ran through your short hair. Trees in this side of the small park were bristling and some old leaves were falling down onto the concrete.
Noticing a few people get into a brawl in one of the streets that had nothing but shops. Among st all the people the piercing blue's caught your attention. She looked so regal and demanding.
Her hair was black and her ponytail flowed down her right shoulder. She noticed you were staring and she raised a brow and smirked. Your heart swooned at the idea of her beside you, living in the big manor. Your lonely heart ached at the idea as well.
"Mama! Hurry!" Sammy's voice pulled you from the small staring contest that you were having with the unknown woman. Surely, you would ask Mr. Pennyworth about the woman. He seemed to well acquainted with everyone here in London.
"Alright, Alright. We don't want to fall now do we." The mother smiled as she seen her little one run toward you.
You smiled as you met the mothers gaze as her eyes widened as how Sammy's eyes did when she first realized who you were.
"Ms. Y/l/n, My apologies for my daughter disturbing your schedule." She nodded in curtsy.
"It's perfectly alright, she's no bother." Chuckling you ruffled the young-lings hair as she pouted. Sammy continuously put away her chess pieces.
"I was telling Sammy, here, that the two of you can come over to my house or whatever you want to call it anytime. Just make sure to call first." You smiled and gave her a piece of paper, or more of a card.
A card that had your house number on it. The maids or your butler were sure enough to answer the phone. Her blush didn't go unnoticed as you took her hand into yours. Sammy's mom was very pretty, her brown eyes mixing with her white skin and her red hair.
"Thank you so much, Ms. Y/I/n. "
"No need for formalities, call me Y/n" You chuckled and she blushed even more.
"Oh? Kathy." She smiled.
"Well I must be on my way, Kathy...Sammy." You smiled at the pair as you nodded your head and walked into the opposite direction. You gave another glance to where you seen the black haired lady but to be met with nothing. You glance into another direction as you caught a glimpse of a green suit similar to the one that Lady was wearing and a redhead right behind her as she got into a car. The redhead on the other hand gave you a sneer and got in right after her.
How unusual, she looked familiar, surely you had seen her some where but most redheads were all the same. Sneering at people and thinking that they were in high society. So, you put it off.
You walked along the street, to your car. With a sigh you stood there pulling out a cigarette and match box. Now you were actually going to ask Alfred about these people that he so called worked with in some certain formalities. You took a big drag of the cigarette and blew the smoke, sighing as you did so.
"Ma'am, we retained the man." Your butler walked up behind you giving you a bow and walking toward the car door, opening the car door for you to get in.
You took another drag of the cigarette, you threw the remain of it onto the sidewalk and stepped on it as you blew out the smoke from your lungs. You got into the vehicle and sighed. You tried to cut down on smoking but certainly this mad world wouldn't let you. You had a side business other than the reputation that your parents had set before you and you were very pleased with what you achieved.
***
"Ah, Mr. Pennyworth, I was expecting your arrival." You smiled at him.
"Yes, Ms. Y/l/n. I was aware that you had retained Mr. Richard." You rolled your eyes at the mention of the man that was tied somewhere down stairs or possibly in one of the rooms upstairs.
"The little moments count Alfred. I believe Esme should've taught you that." You sighed as you remembered the skinny woman. The trust issues that she developed over time after having a terrible encounter. You believed she fell for a woman. Sadly, you loved her but apparently not enough to save her from being killed.
"Don't you ever miss her?" You asked the man that stood by on of the settee's. Knowing his answer and who killed him, you couldn't help but feel the anger that arose during your question.
"Don't answer that, we both know how she died." Your tone bit him visibly.
"Apologies Ma'am, but someone has called the estate for Mr. Pennyworth. A Bet Sykes." Your butler said as her entered the room unnoticed by the both of you.
"She has sent a message stating tomorrow at 2 PM, sir." Your butler bowed and left the room once again. You raised a brow at the man in front of you and chuckled. "Already? Calling the brothel?" You laughed at the face he made at you.
"Certainly not, I mean, you must've heard about her and the sister?" You tilted your head as he spoke, you wondered about the two.
"No, I don't recall. Heard the name a couple of times but doesn't ring a bell." You smiled.
Surely, you must've meet the sometime, but the names don't ring a bell at all. Interesting. Now, maybe this was the best time to ask about the woman wearing the green suit and her blue eyes that seemed to stare back at you in the back of your mind. Her smirk replaying in your mind.
"But there is someone whom I seen and she was most intriguing to me, green suit, lovely long black hair, and blue eyes. " You quirked a brow at him as he thought about names.
I haven't seen the Sykes's sisters in a while, but with the way you describe her, it sounds like Margaret Sykes." He sighed.
"Well, before we waste anymore time, Dani should have your money." You yawned. Surely you would deal with the man tomorrow. Yes, it would only be wise to do so.
Alfred nodded and walked out when you waved your hand, dismissing him from the room. A nap sounded pretty enticing right now, and that was what you we're going to do.
***
"Hello, Love," someone said as you sat there reading on the settee. You turned your head to the woman beside you. Her hair was down from it's usual up do. You loved it when your wife let down her hair around the house.
Her blue eyes stared at you as you smiled and continued to read the newspaper.
You could spend the whole day with her and not get tired of it. That's how much you loved your wife. Your husband could never compare to the genuine love you have for the woman you sat beside you on the settee.
It was rather upsetting that she was leaving today as well. To visit her sister and spend the night there to rekindle or work out whatever they were going through.
"Bet said she's coming over here." She muttered as you looked her way. She raised a brow at you as you dropped the paper in your lap. The paper crinkled and made a ripping noise as you moved into her personal space.
Her eyes were memorizing. You gently took her hand into yours and placed kissed onto it keeping your gaze on the woman as she blushed. Her lips parted slightly as her breathing quickened.
You could pleasure the woman right here, right now. But with your guests coming in a few minutes, wouldn't allow that.
"Margar-"
You jumped up from your bed hearing a knock at your door. You groaned as your head it the pillow again and yelled "Come in!"
The door opened to reveal one of the maids. "My lady, you have a guest waiting for you."
"Name?"
"A woman named Bet Sykes, Ma'am." The maid looked visibly shaken at the name causing you to wonder what this woman may impose onto you. The name did sound rather familiar, far too familiar from the words the Pennyworth guy had said and from your dream.
Sighing you got up from the bed and reached toward the chair that was facing upside down from your last outburst.
You tied the robe on your body and fixed your face. The maid waited for you, to follow along your orders just in case it was someone important that you had to have a quick chat with. She would usually bring tea if it was.
"Alice, bring some tea. I believe our guest is thirsty." You gave her a gentle smile.
You entered the room to a red head woman similar to the one you saw out in the park.
"Oh, you're the chit, we seen at the park." You said more to herself than to you.
"Excuse me?" You tilted your head in confusion.
"Apologies, My name is Bet Sykes. Ms. Y/l/n" She gave a nod.
"Yes, I believe you gave me a sneer. But what do I owe the pleasure for you to be visiting this time in the morning." You yawned, covering your mouth in the process.
"Yes, about that. I need something that you have. Or someone." You lifted your head and sighed. The man.
"Well I'm afraid I need him first." You sighed as you shook your head. You hair falling softly to frame your face. Of course, Lord Richard was going to have a few people after him. Not only were you to deal with this but you might as well deal with him after this as well. It wouldn't be no bother if you were to deal with it now. After all, everyone here is getting paid to keep their mouths shut about what happens on the estate.
"Me sister needs this man alive."
"Well, if your sister needs him alive I suggest she comes today." You retorted noticing the slight irritation that laced her voice as she spoke to you.
"Fine, she's waiting outside anyways." She muttered as she started walking past you.
This was definitely going to be fun. People who interrupted your business wasn't on a daily basis but this here, was going to be interesting. You sat on the settee as Alice, the maid, brought in some tea and pouring it as well. The redhead had walked out not long ago to retrieve her sister.
Was her sister the one with the blue eyes? If so, then you were definitely going to have fun. You had a thing for blue eye'd women. Like the one in the park. You were more likely not interested in relationships but more into just bedding the woman.
You sipped slowly on the tea as you heard knocking on the door, that was rather quick if you say so.
It wasn't until you heard a gun clicking behind your head. You groaned and placed your tea back onto the saucer.
"I believe you were suppose to get your sister. Not put a gun to me head." You sighed as your head someone 'tsk' behind you. "You know a simple gun isn't going to scare me." You soothed out your robe once more before standing and your turned to see who was holding the gun.
Blue eyes.
"Ah, I see and you are?" You rested your hands on your waist and licked your lips.
"Peg." Was a simple answer and you wouldn't prod any further.
"Margaret? Correct. I prefer that name better. Seems more formal. Yes?" You chuckled noticing that she squinted her eyes at you and lowered the gun.
"Where is your sister? Bet?" You asked as you gestured for her to sit down.
"She had something to take care off." You quirked a brow and sighed. If she was planning on head down to the basement in hopes on finding the man, she was on a dead end.
"Well, I believe we can have a small chat before we head to get your sister in the basement." You smiled as Margaret made her way over to the other settee.
Her lips were cherry red, appealing feature, that made you want to press your own against hers to see if it actually tasted like cherries.
"I must say, Ms. Sykes. You do look rather gorgeous this morning." You signaled the maid that entered shaking to pour the tea. Her shakiness went unnoticed as you gazed at the other woman.
Peg gave you a smile and sighed.
"I would rather have you call me Peg." She said slightly irritated that you didn't want to call her Peg, her nickname.
"Fine, Peg it is." Slightly you slumped your shoulders.
You both sat there in silence as you sipped and slurped your tea. The silence was welcome but you couldn't help but wonder what this woman does for a living.
"If I must, Peg. What do you do in your free time?"
"She likes to flog old people with candles." Someone said as they entered with your butler. It made you choke on your tea as you reached for a napkin, dabbing your chin to clean yourself up.
"You bloody cheek." Peg glared at her sister as she grinned.
"How nice of you to join us." You coughed out.
"Yes," Bet smiled and sat beside her sister.
"My lady, I found her in the basement, she was merely stating that she was lost." Your butler said as he glared at the redhead.
"No bother. I suspected she was going to be there." You had the maid pour Bet some tea and you gave them all a big grin.
"Now, let's discuss a few rules. Since you both are staying here."
"Oh no, we're leaving."
Guns clicked behind the women as you smiled even wider. "I think a few days won't hurt." Bet grabbed the tea cup and began to sip on the concoction inside the cup.
Peg muttered something under breath toward the other woman as she turned and said "Am not"
You chuckled and smiled it reminded you of your brother. How you both used to fight and call each other names. Sadly he was killed, and you swore that you would kill everyone that was involved.
You slightly raised your hand to dismiss the butler and the maid as they both carried the guns out.
"Now my rules ar-"
After sometime you discussed the rules you all took a tour of your house. Assigning them their rooms as you did so. "My room is just down the hall, take a left and it's the third door to the right." You clasped your hands together as you ended the tour.
Both women nodded and looked at one another.
"Now excuse me, I need to get properly dressed and tend to a few things." You said as you walked off toward your bedroom, your butler following shortly behind. There was one door that you didn't give them a tour of.
You would rather leave it that way.
"Daniel, see to it that they don't leave this estate. Or that they don't go into me brother's room." You said as you flicked your wrist to dismiss him.
He gave a short and brief bow saying "Yes Ma'am" and he was gone before you could turn around.
Surely, this was the start of a small game your brother liked.
Maybe a game of cards would soothe your growing headache. Maybe even a cigarette.
But you swore to cut back. Fuck it, who's counting anyways. You entered the dimly lit room and walked toward your vanity. You brushed out your hair, placing the brush on the counter in front of the mirror.
In the reflection you could see someone standing there. Short hair of curls and a suit. "Brother what I am to do." You sighed lighting up a cigarette and putting it to your lips.
"You said you were to stop smoking. You promised." Your brother walked up behind you.
"Yeah, well it runs in the family." You coughed.
"You need to let me go, find love." He placed some cards onto the table to the left of you and you turned around in the chair. No one to be found inside the room beside you in the darkness of it all.
"I will find love after I find who took you from me."
This was certainly a mad world and you were another victim to it's hands.

hii i love your work and wanted to send a request in :)
can you do “you’re just going to leave me here?!” and “i’m gonna come back for you , do you hear me?” for jason and reader? 💛
maybe they’re on a date and there’s a robbery nearby or a villain crashes a gala they are attending? also maybe the reader knows he’s red hood? or it’s early in their relationship that he hasn’t told them yet? idk if that makes sense, but if you pick this up i can’t wait to see where you take it! 💛
OH IT'S EMOTIONAL ANGST TIME! hurt no comfort 😈 thanks for requesting nonnie 🥰
jason todd x gn!reader | tw: angst, reader feels hurt, lying to protect a superhero identity (is red hood a hero? he is to ME.) i may write a pt 2 to this if there's interest 😎
****
Jason checks his phone for the fourth time tonight. You haven't even received your entrees yet.
"Everything okay?" you ask lightly.
Jason looks up, eyes wide. "Oh. Yes. Sorry, baby. Sorry."
You nod, trying to smile. "It's okay."
He puts his phone in his pocket. You try to relax and focus on your date. This place is upscale, much pricier than you're used to, but Jason had insisted. He'd said he hadn't been doing his due diligence of being your boyfriend and should take you out on more "proper" dates. You'd told him that was silly, of course; you'd be content to go anywhere with him.
But he's been acutely distracted these past few weeks, and you're starting to form terrible explanations in your head for why that might be.
You try to ignore it. You just want to spend time with your boyfriend; it's been so long.
"Oh my God, guess what happened at work today," you say.
Jason leans in, smiling. "Tell me. Was it Peggy from Marketing again?"
"Yes!" You laugh, shaking your head. "She's such a pain. I was in my cubicle when—"
Jason's watch starts to blare, the beep shrill and insistent. He curses and quickly taps at the screen. You slump back in your chair.
"Shit," he says and looks up at you.
You suddenly feel exhausted.
"Baby, I'm so sorry," Jason begins, rising from his chair. "God, fuck—you have no idea how sorry I am. It's my family, they—something's happened with my brother. He needs my help, unfortunately."
"So you're just going to leave me here?" you ask, mouth dropping open in shock. "Jay, we planned tonight two weeks ago!"
He winces. "I know. Fuck, I know, sweetheart. I'm so, so sorry. I'm gonna come back for you, okay? It'll be an hour, tops. Look, order anything you want. I'll leave my card, it's on me—"
You shake your head and stand. "No, Jason. I'm—look, I know your family is important to you, but you've done this a lot this past month, and it's not just hurtful, but it's starting to feel a little intentional. I don't know if I'm some kind of placeholder or, or—"
"Hey, no, no. You're not a placeholder. Please don't say that," Jason begs, reaching for your hand.
You keep your hand out of reach, eyes beginning to heat up.
"I'm going home," you say. "I hope your brother's okay."
"Sweetheart, please, come on. I don't wanna fight."
"Me neither," you say tiredly. "So we won't. Good night, Jason."
His watch beeps again, this time with a phone call. You walk out. It's a nicer part of Gotham, so getting a cab here isn't a problem.
Jason catches up to you instantly. He looks terrified, and it breaks your heart, but you don't have the energy tonight.
"Can I–can I call you tonight?" he asks, voice cracking.
A cab pulls up to the curb. The valet opens the door for you. Jason takes a step forward.
"I'd rather you didn't," you say quietly. "I need some time to myself, Jay."
Jason takes a step back.
"I'm sorry," he says again, desperate.
You sigh. "I know you are."
You get into the car. The valet closes the door. Jason watches you through the window, tugging at his curls like he does when he's stressed.
That night, your bed feels cold. You toss and turn for hours, trying to shake the feeling of a phantom arm snaked around your waist.
Jason doesn't call, like you'd requested. You cry anyway.

December 17, 1970. Still.
Paul Hunham didn’t think his luck could get any worse but then that moron at the Janie Patrick's Girl School had to go make his problems, his. Then at the young lady’s arrival Angus Tully practically had hearts popping out his eyes like those cartoon characters on TV. That would be an issue. An issue he had to deal with at once.
As the boys grumbled and moaned on their way to the infirmary, as if they were the Athenians sent to march to Marathon in 490 BC, he made his way to the kitchen, looking for a certain cook.
“Hello, Mary,” he greets. She sits at her desk with a cigarette between two fingers, writing something down in her notebook.
“Mr. Hunham. I heard you got stuck with babysitting duty this year. How’d you manage that?” Her tone tiptoes on the edge of teasing.
“Oh, I don’t know. I suppose I failed someone who richly deserved it.”
“The Osgood kid? Yeah, he was a real asshole. Rich and dumb. Popular combination around here.”
“It’s a plague. Uh, and you? You’ll be here, too?” God, he hopes she is. He doesn’t think he will be able to survive as the only adult on the school grounds.
To his relief she nods her head, “All by my lonesome. My little sister Peggy and her husband invited me to go visit them in Roxbury, but I feel like it’s too soon. Like Curtis will think that I’m abandoning him, you know. This is the last place my baby and I were together, not including the bus station.”
Paul pursues his lips, unsure of what to say. “Well, maybe you won't be completely alone. How would you feel about letting a female student sleep in the staff common room? We could push some couches together, I'm sure. Make a nice bed that way.”
“Female student? What do you mean?”
“I’m unsure about the exact details, but I have been entrusted by the idiots across the lake with taking care of one of their students.”
“Ahh,” Mary is beginning to understand.
He nods, “Her name is Y/n L/n, I think she and Tully are in cahoots somehow. You should've seen the way he looked at her.”
“Oh no, don't do that though. You can’t have that poor girl sleep on a lumpy couch all break. She needs a bed.”
“I just want this whole ordeal to go smoothly. If I can keep those two as far away as possible, I believe all will be well.”
“Please that Tully boy wouldn't try anything. Sometimes he is the only one to say thank you when we place the food down on the lunch tables.”
Paul mulls it over for a second. “I suppose I could give it a try. Not that I think it is wise.”
Mary smiles slightly, “I know those kids are hard to handle but hold out hope for them. Some trust too. It's not too late yet. Their brains are still moldable or whatever corny crap you teachers say.”
Paul smiles slightly, his attention pulled to the bottle of bourbon on her desk, “You mind if I uh…”
“You want some of that? All right.”
“Thank you.”
“You know this is a necessity,” Mary says as she pours the liquid into a mug for him.
“Oh yes,” for life, love, pain or the next two weeks. Paul understands too well.
“Put the bed farther away Angus,” you say, your arms on your hips and you watch him struggle to drag his bed closer to yours.
“Why? Do I smell or something?”
“It's already a stretch to think he might let us sleep in the same room, he's definitely not going to let your bed be that close to mine.”
Huffing he begins to scoot it back to its original place, “Fine.”
Music has started blaring loudly from where Teddy and Jason are bunking in. Park and Ollerman are minding their business in their own space. You are across, what you think will be the place Mr. Hunham will stay in. Your hope is that him having an accessible view will make him more lenient towards you and Angus, despite his earlier warning of having you be on your own.
You situate your lavender near the window and begin to unpack your things. Angus does the same and you can hear his rustling get faster.
“What's wrong?” You ask.
“My…” He trails off. Suddenly he storms off like a man on a mission. You ignore the magazine you were flipping through and let it fall on the floor as you get up to follow him.
You see him head directly towards Kountze. “Where’s my photo?”
“What photo?”
“I think you know what photo, and you stole it.”
“I resent that baseless accusation.”
“Give me my goddamn picture!” Angus shouts.
“Hey man, if you took the photo just give it back,” you plead exasperatedly to Teddy, already tired of his whole innocent act.
“Stay out of it Y/n, it's alright,” Angus assures you and you move back to lean against the doorway. You sort of hope Angus socks him.
Kountze leaps to his feet and stalks towards him, “You need your girlfriend to defend you now? Seriously, what's your problem, Tully? Homesick? Maybe the little boy misses his mommy?”
“Fuck you, Kountze. Leave her out of it. And hey, why are you even here anyway? Where’s your family?”
“We’re renovating our house. It’s all torn up. They’re storing the tools and stuff in my room.” “That’s what they told you? It’s winter, idiot. Nobody renovates their house in the winter. Your parents don’t want you around because you’re a fucking insecure sociopath.”
“Hey, take it easy, guys.”
You can see Angus getting angrier. His shoulders are tense and in a last ditch effort you go up to him and whisper in his ear, “Punch him later. In private. Hunham won’t even hear our reasoning for rooming together. He’ll punish you by punishing me.”
Misery loves company, right? That was the saying at least. In your mind, suffering with Angus was better than the alternative. You didn’t want to spend these two weeks inside a glass case. From what you had seen, Hunham would have no problem in making you sit at your own lunch table or study in a separate classroom. You know that is what Ms. Orchard would have done if she was forced to take in the boys. She would have locked you in your dorm and insisted it was because you would “distract” them.
You can see the gears turning in Angus’s mind. He bites the inside of his cheek and finally nods before turning back to glare at Kountze. “You’re an asshole. I just needed you to know that.”
He turns around to retreat back to the room only to run straight into Mr. Hunhams chest. Angus leaps off and leans his back against the wall. Your own eyes widened, you hadn’t even heard the man's footsteps.
He surveys the room and notes all your disheveledness. Teddy's face looks flushed while Angus is still trying to control his heavy breathing. Everyone is completely silent and too scared to even make a move.
“What is going on here?”
“They weren’t fighting,” Alex squeaked. Mr. Hunham only seems to grow more suspicious. He shifted his sights to you and his eyebrow begins to raise, “They weren’t bothering you were they.”
“No. We were just talking,” you swallow the lump in your throat.
“What about?”
“Hmm?” You hum, straightening up.
“What were you all discussing mere seconds before I barged in on what, I am sure, was a highly intellectual conversation.”
“Shocking Blue,” you blurt out and Hunham turns his head as if asking for clarification. “The band that was on the radio.”
“Yeah, we love Shocking Blue,” Angus nods. The rest of the boys chime in, faking their agreement.
“They’re so good.”
“I listen to them all the time.”
Mr. Hunham continues to look unconvinced. Without a word he walks out, and you all collectively let out a sigh of relief. For a moment, you all stare at each other with giddiness. Like when you're a kid and get away with stealing a cookie from the cooling tray. You let yourself relax but shrivel back up upon the echo of Mr. Hunham's haunting voice, “Mr. Tully, Ms. L/n, in here. NOW.”
You frown, gazing up at Angus, “I think he found the room.”
After a stern talking to, Mr. Hunham begrudgingly agreed to let you and Angus sleep in the same room. He took a string of jingle bells that hung from a nearby Christmas decoration and tied it around Angus’s bedpost so that if he dared to move, he would hear it. You two were just fine with that.
Later you were escorted to the large dining hall. Mr. Hunham sat at the head of the table as the rest of you indulged in mindless chatter. You and Angus were on your third round of rock, paper, scissors, competing for nothing, when a lady came in to set down a platter of chicken, potatoes and asparagus.
“Lovely. Thank you, Mary.” the older man says.
You wait for the initial rush of grubby hands and pushing elbows to pass before you serve yourself, when you find that Angus already did it for you. He sets down the plate in front of you and then gets himself a serving of the green vegetable on his own dish.
“Didn’t we already have this for lunch?” Jason asks.
“And it was crappy then,” Teddy says through his eager chewing. You gag at the scene.
“Consider yourselves lucky. During the third Punic campaign, 149-146 B.C., the Romans laid siege to Carthage for three entire years. By the time it ended, the Carthaginians were reduced to eating sand and drinking their own urine. Hence the term punitive.”
The woman from earlier, that you now know is Mary, returns with some water. You give her a passing smile which she returns.
“Mary, maybe you’d, um, maybe you would care to join us,” Hunham stumbles through his words.
Kountze looks up from his food then glances at you with alarm. Like he can't fathom the idea of sitting with the cook.
You think Mary can sense his disdain when you notice her demeanor sour after a glimpse in his direction. “No, I’m all right. Thank you.” She escapes through the kitchen doors.
Teddy pipes up, “I mean, I know she’s sad about her son and everything, but still, she’s getting paid to do a job. And she should do it well, right?”
The chewing and scraping of silverware halts. You and Angus gauge each other's reaction, both of you completely shocked and slightly horrified. That boy for some reason just never knows when to shut up and continues, “But I guess no matter how bad a cook she is, now they can never fire her.”
“Will you shut up!” Mr. Hunham yells loud enough for you to flinch. He slams his fork and knife down. “You have no idea what that woman has… For most people, Mr. Kountze, life is like a henhouse ladder -- shitty and short. You were born lucky. Maybe someday you entitled little degenerates will appreciate that. If you don’t, I feel sorry for you, and we will not have done our jobs. Now eat!”
You're on your bed and catching up on some reading and soaking in the orange hue that the bedside lamp offers you. The boys are still getting ready for bed, and you were graciously offered the first shift in the showers. You’re waiting for your hair to dry when Angus walks in with his pajamas on, and a towel draped over his shoulders.
“You look very dapper,” You smirk.
“Thank you,” he plops down into his mattress. “You think Walleye is still mad?”
“Probably. I don’t blame him.”
“It made for a pretty awkward evening though.”
“Not one of the worst dinners I ever had. I’d rather endure another night like this than any dinner with my parents.”
“Oh yeah,” he sighs, “Your parents... You never did tell me the reason why you’re here holding over.”
You shuffle around in your bed and bring your blanket up to your neck, “Doesn’t matter.”
“Come on, it's just me now. Tell me. I told you!”
“It's no big reason, just small ones. They didn’t specify. I didn’t want to go home. It's complicated.”
“Okay you just gave like four different excuses right there. What happened? Is it super embarrassing? Did they forget about you or something,” he laughs.
You wince at his words and pray that the world opens up and swallows you whole. Realization dawns on his face, “Oh shit. Did they?”
You nod solemnly and begin picking on the thread of the blanket, trying to make the threading come undone.
“How could they do that? The same assholes who always make a huge deal about RSVPs and invitations. Seriously?”
“It’s alright. I’ll live. I mean what would I have done if I was there? I’d be in my room and waiting for them to drag me out so they could introduce me to people. They’d act like doting parents, ditching me a second later to play blackjack with their friends.”
“I’m sorry. I wish you would have told me, we could’ve… I could have done something.”
You smile, “I didn’t tell you cause I know you. You would’ve cursed them out the minute you had hold of them. Anyways, maybe it was faith to get stranded at Barton.”
“Or bad luck,” he quips, “maybe the universe wants us to die of mundanity together.”
“Either or,” you grin. “I don’t want to talk about it anymore. Let's go to bed.”
Angus nods and spreads his long limbs across the bed exaggeratingly before turning to face the wall. “Whatever you want. Goodnight, Y/n.”
“Goodnight,” you go to turn off the lamp, wondering if you're being paranoid in sensing something off in the way he says your name.
December 20, 1970
The last few days had been the same grueling routine. Mr. Hunham would wake you up with the banging of bedpans and you would groan and try to shove yourself deep into your pillows.
“All right, you fetid layabouts,” he would say, “It’s daylight in the swamp. Arise!”
In the quad you were all forced to run laps. You hadn’t anticipated doing exercise, so you were forced to wear some joggers from the lost and found. You had been able to convince him that walking would be better suited for you and your imaginary cramps. His face had completely paled, and he hadn’t even let you finish speaking when he said you walking would be just fine. Men and their immaturity, you think.
When Angus and the rest of the boys would pass by you, he would glare jokingly at you while you would stick your tongue out and wave him goodbye as he flew past you.
During study hall, you would read some more and ignore the ongoing feud between Kountze and Angus. In the span of the last few days, you must have read three entire books. There was a lot of downtime in between recreational time with Mr. Hunham and dinner.
Today you had all decided to walk along the river. You can hear the church bells in the distance signaling the fact that it is the afternoon. Angus is swinging around a branch while Teddy and Jason pass around a football. You steer clear of both. You walk in sync with Alex and Ye-Joon. You’ve taken a liking to them. They remind you of the little sibling you always wanted but never got.
“What about your car?” Angus suggests, “We could take it, go somewhere. Boston maybe.” Jason shakes his head, “Nah, we’d get in so much trouble. Face it. We’re stuck.”
“If we just had some way to get out of here. Just split,” Angus kicks a pile of snow.
“Well, you could put a chopper down right in the Quad.”
“A what?”
“A helicopter, dumb ass,” Teddy snaps, “His old man’s CEO of Pratt & Whitney.”
“Got his own bird,” Jason confirms, “Takes it from Stamford to the city every morning. Lands right in our backyard. Pilot’s name, Wild Bill.”
“Wild Bill?” Ye-Joon awes.
“Yeah. Flew up to Haystack with it. Took the presents and everything. Minus me,” he shrugs.
“Flying with presents, like Santa Claus,” Alex comments with glee.
“Yeah. Just like Santa Claus.”
Jason whistles and tilts his head for Teddy to “go long.” They play catch, getting farther from the group as they go.
“If I was back home right now back in Provo, it would be really warm inside, and my mom would be making baked apples, and the whole house would smell like cinnamon and brown sugar,” Alex reminisces. You smile sadly at the boy.
“That sounds so nice,” Ye-Joon agrees.
Kountze runs back suddenly and grabs one of Alex’s gloves and throws it into the river.
“What's wrong with you?” You intervene.
“Hey!” Alex says simultaneously.
“That’s what you get for ratting me out, little Mormon,” Teddy laughs, not an ounce of regret at what he just did. You tap Angus’s shoulder as you go trailing after the young boy, “I’m going to go help.”
“It’s gone! My glove’s gone!” Ollerman shouts. You continue searching for it through the clearing.
“Twisted fucker orphaned that glove on purpose. Left you with one so the loss would sting that much more,” Angus shouts back.
Ollerman looks to be on the verge of tears. He stares down at his hands and starts walking down a snowy ramp. He throws the other glove before you can do anything to stop it. He watches it disappear downstream as you make your own way down.
“Did your mother make you that?”
He nods. “It’s alright. I know where he keeps his wallet. We’ll steal it and buy a new one.”
You manage to bring out a muffled laugh from him. You consider it a win.
Angus wakes up in the middle of the night to see you knitting. He gets up from the bed to see your progress.
“Oh hello, grandma,” he scoffs. “When did you learn to do that?”
“Girl scouts before I quit. You guys had a bunch of yarn just rotting behind your auditorium stage. Did you know that?”
“No? Are you making that for the kid?”
“Yeah, I feel bad.”
“That looks like crap,” Angus chuckles as he messes around with the gloves fingers. You swat his hand away.
“I never said I earned the badge. Besides, it's the thought that counts.”
“I’m going to get a glass of water. You want some?”
“No thanks.”
Angus leaves the room, only to return a couple seconds later.
“Ye-Joon is crying,” he whispers. You furrow your eyebrows and get up to follow him. His cries become louder, and you turn the corner to see the poor boy shivering.
“Are you all right?” You ask.
“I had a nightmare,” You crouch down so you can hear him better.
“Don’t worry we get nightmares too. Right Angus?”
“Yeah, I’m always falling. Or drowning.”
“Also, I had an accident,” he weeps.
You motion for Angus to check. He doesn't have to look far.
“Yeah, you did. Shhh. Stop crying. If they hear you, they’ll crucify you. Which would be ironic, since you’re Buddhist.”
“I know it’s an excellent school, and my brothers went here. But I miss my family, and I have no friends,” he sobs full-on. You hush him gently.
“You have plenty of time to make friends. You’re like a freshman, right? I would start worrying when you're fifty and living vicariously through your kids.”
“Yeah man. You could have a thousand friends and not like any of them. What would be the point of having them then,” Angus adds.
“We’ll help you hide the sheets in the morning, all right?” You wipe his tears with a tissue from a Kleenex box nearby. “Find a dry spot and try to get some sleep.”
“Thank you,” Park smiles consoled. Before going back to bed you ask him one last thing, “Hey do you like gloves?”
Ye-Joon gives you a quizzical look. …
December 22, 1970
Once again, you’re all studying in silence in a fancy room with portraits of dead white guys on the wall.
Mr. Hunham clears his throat loudly and Jason leans in to mutter in disgust, “Are you kidding me? It’s only eleven and he’s already lit. I can smell the whiskey on him.”
“Can you blame him? It’s freezing in here. It’s fucking Greenland in here,” Angus retorts.
From outside you hear the faint whirring of a machine. Not a car but something else. You all approach the window and spot the helicopter flying above the trees. It lands in the quad just like Jason had said it could. An older man steps out and he looks like one of the men you imagine roam Wall Street.
“He finally caved, the big softie!” Smith exclaims. He all but skips to the door and turns to you all, “Hey, any of you guys like to ski?”
You and Hunham stay behind as the rest go racing after him, filled with hope for what must be the first time in days. He goes to subdue the riot they make as they whoop down the hall, but you stop him by grabbing a hold of the end of his sleeve.
“Uh, sir? If Jason is inviting us, would you have to call our parents?”
“That would be proper protocol, yes.”
“Oh. Is there a way I could stay here then? I never cared for skiing and my parents would say no anyway.”
“Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I’d have to ask Woodrup about this first. Come on along,” he clears the path for you.
Grumbling, you find your way to the administrative offices. Hunham, Jason and his father shut themselves in a room. The boys along with Angus all try to listen in on the conversation by pressing their face as close as humanly possible against the glass. You watch from the sideline as Jason gives you guys a thumbs up. The hallway erupts in cheers and a minute later Mr. Hunham steps out with an announcement, “Gentlemen, good news. I was able to reach Dr. Woodrup and your parents. Most of them, anyway.”
Paul glances at Angus and you. Angus expression falters.
As the rest pack, you find refuge in your room. You can, however, hear Angus’s pleads.
“Try calling again. Just one more time. Please.”
“There’s no point. The desk clerk said no one’s answering. He says they’re away on some excursion.”
“Excursion,” he repeats.
Mr. Hunham scoffs, “I’m as disappointed as you are, if not more so. I could be spending the rest of my vacation reading mystery novels.”
“Maybe they’re back by now. Just call again.”
“Okay,” he gives in and marches down the corridor.
Ye-Joon had wished you goodbye a moment ago and now does the same for Angus, “Happy Holidays.”
“Same to you.”
“Take care, Tully.” Smith follows Park, giving him a pitiful pat on the arm.
You catch Alex as he is about to exit. You’ve wrapped the gloves you worked on endless last night in newspapers. “This is for you. Try not to get them stolen by Teddy again. I don’t think my fingers can handle another round of knitting.”
Ollerman smiles genuinely, giving you a hug you didn’t expect. You’re unable to return it as he has your stiff arms completely glued to your side. You follow him out, and Angus scowls in your direction.
“Why aren’t you more upset about this? That was our only way out and we blew it.”
“Don’t be so dramatic. Did you really want to go skiing with Kountze that badly?”
“No, I wanted to get out of here badly. Your parents seriously didn’t answer either?”
“Um-.”
“Hey, you know what! Maybe Hunham can call them again and they can take us both in!”
“Angus no-,”
“Yeah, come on! Let's go ask,” he tugs at your hand to get you through the corridor.
“No Angus. I don’t want to.”
“What, why?”
You run your hand through your hair, “I asked Mr. Hunham not to ring them.”
“Wait. So, you didn’t even try to leave!”
“No! I thought I was clear the night we talked about why I didn’t want to go back to that house. If they answer they’ll pull the victim card and be all ‘I can’t believe you guys kept my child from me! Who do I sue? before coming to fetch me and berating me all the way back.”
“Listen, I wasn’t going to say anything because I could tell you were upset but you could have at least let them know for both our sakes. Then we could have spent the holidays in a hotel in Boston or something! We didn’t have to stay with them.”
“I knew you were off that night!” You curse the way you’ve managed to read him. “Anyways, with what money? To do what?”
“I don’t-, I don’t know… we could have figured it out.”
“I can’t believe you're getting mad at my decision.”
“It’s a pretty selfish one,” his eyes widened like he couldn't believe the words that came out of his mouth.
You gasp and hit him harshly at his side. “Ow!” he yelps.
“You’re being an asshole right now. I’ve never been madder at you in my entire life.”
“Really? What about that time I spilled mashed potatoes all over your dress? Your face was beet red,” he mocks.
You go to swat at him again only for him to dodge you. You try once more and fail, almost falling onto the floor but stopping yourself by putting your hand on the nearest wall. If you weren’t so angry this would have reminded you of the times you would wrestle when you were eight. Especially now and the way he holds you back by putting his hand on your forehead to keep you at arm's length. You give up with a huff and you b-line to your room.
“Tell Mr. Hunham I won't be at dinner tonight!”
You hear him groan behind the door you slammed shut and then the sound of his footsteps fading. In your solitude you collapse on the bed, letting out a scream into your pillow. Even though it's muffled, you hope Angus can feel it from where he is. That it reaches him and causes goosebumps to arise all over his stupidly long arms. …
You had skipped out on dinner like you said you would. Although Mr. Hunham had been polite enough to bring a plate down to the infirmary. As he handed it to you, he said lowly, “I’m not sure what that little deviant did, but I’m sure it's related to his foul mood and your absence tonight. Let me know if I can do anything.”
You almost wanted to cry at his politeness. Later he invited you to the kitchen common room and claimed there was a TV there. Considering you had only stared at words on a page for the last few days, you jumped at the offer. You saw Mary there and to your displeasure Angus had been forced to tag along so that Mr. Hunham could supervise him.
Your eyes were glued to the television, not letting Angus’s burning stare get the best of you. They were watching “The Newlywed Game” and drinking from mugs. It was not half-bad. In fact, it was starting to get pretty good to see these couples have their relationship crushed within a thirty-minute runtime with ad breaks in between.
The boy had begun throwing pieces of balled up paper at you and you picked them off your hair and tried your damnedest to not pay him any mind. You could hear him tear a new page from that magazine of his and finally you snapped at him. “Will you stop it? You’re wasting paper.”
“Thank God. You’re talking to me,” he stood straighter in his seat. “Here's the thing, I'm sorry. I should have never said that you were selfish. Cause you’re like, not. You’re honestly the most unselfish person I know.”
“I don’t want your apology right now. I’m watching TV.”
“I just got caught up in the moment is all. The truth is that-.”
“Angus, I said I don’t want to hear it!” You raised your voice loud enough to catch the attention of both Mr. Hunham and Mary.
“Everything alright back there?” Hunham takes the pipe out of his mouth to ask.
You get up, brushing invisible dust off your skirt. “Can I be excused. I’m pretty tired.”
“That’ll be fine.”
“Thank you,” You pick up your discarded book from the nearby coffee table before leaning down and whispering in Angus' ear, “Don't follow me.”
As you stomp away you hear Mary say, “We need to get those two onto this program. Win us a trip to Bermuda.”
Mr. Hunham lets out a suppressed chuckle, embracing it soon after along with Mary. You roll your eyes at the pair and their drunkenness. You’re comforted by the fact that they’ll have a big headache tomorrow. …
You’re shaken at a frantic rate. You went to sleep early but were awoken now by a mischievous looking Angus. He dangles a set of keys right in front of your face.
“What are you doing?” You squint under the harsh glare of the flashlight.
“Inviting you on a night of adventure. Walleye is completely blacked out. He won’t even notice us gone.”
“No thank you,” you turn away from him and drape your blanket over your head. He tugs it back down.
“Come on. Please?”
“I’m still not in the mood. Plus, now I’m tired.”
“Y/n,” he whines.
“If you find a cookie in a pantry somewhere you know what to do,” you murmur, already being lulled back to sleep by the warmth you feel under the covers.
“Y/n,” he says more seriously, “I am sorry.”
“I know,” you sigh. Maybe you had been too harsh. You prop yourself up on your elbows, “It’ll be better tomorrow. We will talk then.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
He embraces you tightly in a hug. As he parts away, you two are face to face. You’re able to notice his eyes gleam under the light of the moon. You wonder when his eyes got to be that dark of a brown. Those same eyes flicker to your lips. You stare at him wearily as he clears his throat, scratching the back of his neck. He walks backwards to leave, his back bumping into a nearby lamp. “Shit. Sorry. Uh, goodnight. Bye.”
You were probably disorientated. Sleep deprived most definitely. Or maybe that secondhand smoke finally got to you. Surely you were just seeing things. Because surely, your best friend hadn’t just looked at you the way songs and books always seemed to describe love.
Tumblr media
a/n: Thanks again for reading! Just to clarify some things, obviously Y/n knows about Angus’s dad, but just like in the movie, he doesn’t let it show how much it affects him. That’s why Y/n is unaware of why Boston is such a big deal. Anyways bye :)) until next time. Let me know your thoughts.

Backstage Spender
The Reader works for the Penguin as a dancer. Undercover, Dick Grayson comes in at Jason’s request for a case. He’s distracted more than once in the process.
Pairing: Dick Grayson x Dancer!Reader
Warnings/Promises: canon-level violence, erotic dancing
Word Count: 2750
Note: This is the first part of the Summer Playlist Series! If you enjoy it, reblogs and comments are super appreciated. And keep an eye out for the next four songfics. Enjoy!
Song: “Big Spender” by Peggy Lee
Tumblr media
Working for The Penguin wasn’t the safest thing to do in Gotham, but it was one of the best paychecks a girl could get. The Iceberg Lounge had great insurance (needed for when backstage negotiations broke down), dental, and quarterly bonuses. And because the club money was supposedly kept separate from Mr. Cobblepot’s other dealings, you could accept a paycheck without guilt.
The music pulsed and thrummed as the busiest hours of the night reached their peak. Soon, you’d have to join your coworkers. You were part of the grand finale: a striptease involving large feather fans. (Everybody ignored the fact that ostrich feathers didn’t match Mr. Cobblepot’s usual aesthetic.) You would also have the last dance before the finale. Until then, you and the other dancers helped booze up the patrons. Money exchanged hands at every table for drinks, light dinners, and other ventures you ignored. What you couldn’t ignore was the handsome figure sitting close to the dance floor.
“Isn’t that one of the Wayne boys,” your coworker asked. “He’s sitting right on your corner.”
Another girl joined your spot by the bar. “You’re gonna show off for him, right? Get all of his daddy’s dough so you can really enjoy your vacation this weekend.” She gasped at your hesitation. “You should! Look at him. Big smile, big pockets. Shake every cell you got-“
“Yes! Get it, girl!”
With a groan, you turned away from him. “He’s just a normal customer.”
“A first-time customer.” She grinned as both of your friends nudged you at the same time. “Give him a show he’ll never forget.”
You looked back. What could it hurt? He watched the rest of the lounge’s bustle with such delight, maybe he would be delighted by a personal show. “I’ll think about it.” With a huff, you lifted your tray of drinks to the sound of your coworker’s continuing persuasions.
By the stage, Dick Grayson gently held his head on his palm. Underneath his hair, he pressed a com-link deeper into his ear. “Calm so far. What exactly are you looking for, Jay?”
“Some weapon big-wigs should walk in sometime before the main show, then disappear into the back while everybody else leaves.” Jason tsked over the coms. “Whatcha worried about? Your reputation?”
Dick glanced to the side at another table. Money passed over the top, while a small package passed underneath. “Perhaps. Gordon could retire tomorrow in the Mayor’s good graces if he raided tonight. You are keeping an eye out for cops, right? I don’t need to start a wrap.”
“The only cop around there is you. Now keep your eyes open.”
Dick rolled them instead. Again, he glanced at his watch. There wasn’t much time left. Maybe Jason had the meet-up time wrong. Or the day. Or the month. One could never tell-
Blurred by the echo of the room, the stage host announced the last performance before the big finale.
Dick took a deep sigh as another song from before the 60’s started to play in the very modern setting. He sat up straight as a pair of large broad shoulders walked through the far doors. He sat up even straighter when the shimmer of silver and purple drew his gaze to the center of the stage.
The bar bolted to the floor at the end of the stage was your baseline. You strutted to it, eyeing the men in the front row. At the first roll of the trombone, you sank to your knees. That jump-started the hooting. And really caught the eye of your main target. You maintained holding his gaze. As Peggy Lee’s voice described her beau, you leaned back against the bar, readying for your first series. He watched you circle the pole, eager as anyone in the room to see you climb it. As the trombone trilled again, you began to spin.
“Wouldn’t you like to have fun, fun, fun?” You leapt off the pole, walking around the catwalk to twirl your bare legs in front of the patrons. “Let me show you a-“ you bumped your hips in time with the music, “good time.”
As the chorus set in again, you dismounted the stage and made for his chair. At first, he seemed hesitant, looking around at the other patrons. Then your shimmering body held his attention. “Hey big spender… spend a little time with me.” Gently, you stepped between his knees and turned away. Glancing over your shoulder, you were delighted to see his hands twitch against his thighs. Instead of reaching for you, he slid a wallet out of his pocket.
But before he could pull out a single bill, your song sped up, signaling the end. He hungrily watched you walk away. Green fluttered onto the edge of the stage, but you were already twirling around the pole. For the last note, you spun as fast as you could, dangling back by your knees. To applause, you did your best to catch the money people threw at your outstretched hands. You did a quick set of bows around the stage, collecting the larger bills people held up.
The Wayne man held up a one hundred bill. With a wink, you let your hand trail over his to claim it. Damn, if it wasn’t the end of the night, you’d offer him the private show he deserved. Instead, you slipped backstage to change costumes.
Dick was speechless. Maybe it was the atmosphere. Maybe it had been the glitter of your costume. But he was thinking about finding you after the show when an irritated voice interrupted his thoughts.
“Earth to Nightwing?”
Dick shook himself. Eying side to side, he noted everyone around was too busy watching the stage to notice how flustered he was. “Yeah, what?”
“Where’d they go?”
“Who- oh. They, uh, they’re-um-“
Jason groaned. “You lost them? You lost them!”
Dick stood as the finale’s music began. “I didn’t lose them. Had to keep my eyes forward to keep my cover. Will you calm down?” He walked over to the bar, leaning against it to have a better view of the room. Quickly he scanned the tables. The targets were not visible, meaning they must be backstage. “They headed back, probably to a business room. Give me a minute, and I’ll have an in.” He located the stage door just as the music began to swell again.
On stage, feathers fluttered left and right, creating a wave of cover for everyone to walk out. You tried to catch sight of your biggest tip, finally noticing him against the bar. You tried to wink, but the choreography spun you away. By the time you’d spun back, he was gone. Was he running away from you? Or maybe heading to his car before the exit rush? Deflated, you finished the rest of the number and left the stage with a smile that evaporated once you hit the wings. All around you, your coworkers flitted from one side of the small dressing room to the other collecting their things. Some would go home together to tiny apartments. And some would go home with a new acquaintance met during the night.
You’d go home alone.
Stuffing the last of your things into a bag, you walked out into the hall. Engrossed in your phone, you didn’t hear the scuffle until you bumped into it.
The back doorman had the Wayne son by the neck, pinning him to the wall. Any second now, it looked like he was going to knock his lights out.
“What are you doing?” You rushed over, tugging at the bouncer’s arm with no effect. “Since when do we beat up patrons?”
“Since when do I just let boys walk back here when you girls are going home?” The guard pinned you with a hard eye up and down. You hadn’t really changed out, opting for a simple black silk wrap dress on top. “Since when does the boss let you take costumes home?”
You’d forgotten about that rule. Quickly, you reached out to try and tug the Wayne to yourself. “He’s with me.”
The bouncer let go of his neck at least, though keeping a hold on the front of his shirt. “That true, kid?”
Dick gulped in air, only partially for looks. “Well,” he swallowed thickly, “she did invite me to spend some time with her-“
“Is he paying?”
“Oh, yes.” Enthusiastically, you nodded and managed to rip him out of the guard’s grip.
“Hmm.” With a huff, he nodded at the doors that led to the private rooms. Convinced that’s where you’d go, he left for the bar.
Both of you sighed in relief.
You recovered first. “So, why were you back here?” Noticing his gaze drifting down your chest, you pulled the silk over your cleavage. “Well? Why’d I stick my neck out for you?”
“Right. Ah- I’m not actually back here for you.” Like a nervous child, he reached up to run his hand over the back of his head. “I’m looking for a friend- an ex friend- who might be giving something of mine to a new friend of his. Do you happen to know where the office is?”
“Maybe.” Crossing your arms, you bit back a grin to see his shoulders slump. “How much cash you got on you?”
“What?”
You rolled your eyes. “After you snoop, you’re gonna need an out. And since our large, grumpy friend is under the impression that I’m doing an extra session, you need to pay for the dance you’re gonna get. How much cash you get?”
He winched. “Not enough. You guys take card?”
Was this guy dense? Or just naive? You looked at him. “Yeah. But I don’t take it you want anybody knowing you’re here. There’s an ATM by the bathroom. It ID’s as a coffee shop across town so guys don’t have this place on their bank statements.”
“Brilliant,” he said, impressed. “I’ll, ah, go do that now and meet you back at… the rooms.”
At first, you headed to the private rooms. But before the door could close, you stuck your head out. Instead of the direction towards the ATM, your new headache was walking down the hall towards the boss’s office. With a sigh, you removed your shoes and followed him.
Dick kept an eye out for any more guards but made it to the ornate door without any more problems. From his pocket, he took out a small device. He knelt, feeding it under the door and tapping his ear com. From inside the office, he heard everything he wanted to. And Jason did too.
“Finally,” Jason said. “Took you long enough.”
“Sorry. I had a shadow. And then a necklace,” he rubbed his neck. “But are you satisfied?”
”Yeah. I’ve got enough. Get outta there.”
Before Dick could say anything else, Jason was gone. Hissing into the com didn’t bring him back, so Dick assumed his exit would be without back up. Even then, based on what he heard… Dick gathered up his tech. Maybe after they left he could-
A heavy hand landed on his shoulder. It spun him around, bringing him face to face with a guard bigger and grumpier than the last one.
“Wohoo-“
The guard turned. Then dropped after a punch to the jaw.
You stood on the other side, massaging the ache in your wrist. “What? I’m a Gotham girl. What were you expecting? A Metropolis waif?”
Dick grinned. He was about to thank you when the door creaked. Fast as lightening, he grabbed your wrist and tugged you into the shadows. No one came out. And the guard was hopefully low enough to be invisible to the peep-hole. Penguin didn’t have cameras around the office. Can’t be indicted on hacked cameras if they don’t exist.
With a nudge, you motioned behind you to the back hallway. You waited until there was a reasonable distance between you and the office before pinning him to the wall by his lapels.
“I thought you were getting money for our cover?”
He shrugged. “I lied. I’ve already got the money.” He shifted. “Got a Gotham grip too. Ready to-“
You pressed against him into the shadow of some stage crates. The guard you’d knocked out walked by rubbing his chin. He looked like he was headed to the bar.
“We’d better go. Come on.”
It was the longest, most silent sprint of your life. You didn’t breathe again until the private door was between you and the hallway. You made him sit down in the ‘throne’, as your crew called it, and shed the silk before turning on the lights. Without music, you swayed your hips and leaned into his face.
He swallowed thickly, suddenly reminded why he wanted to come back while not on Jason’s time. “Thanks for your help. I can just pay you if-“ He gasped as you turned, grinding your ass into his crotch. He grabbed your hips, but you batted him away. “You really know how to distract a guy, don’t you?”
You hummed a laugh. Angling back, you nuzzled your nose against his cheek. “I’m hoping for a bigger tip since I gave you the extra help.”
“I might do that.” His eyes closed. Once again, his hands slid over your body. But you didn’t push them away as he spoke. “If I can help out financially in any way, maybe you could help me again some- is it safe to talk in here?”
As you spun face him and sit on his lap, it took everything in you not to laugh at the surprise in his face. “Yes. There’s video in case someone gets too hands. But no audio.” You began to swivel your hips, making his mouth drop open. You would be lying if his handsomeness mixed with the danger wasn’t doing something to you too. “Video starts recording when the lights turn on. But there would be too much to listen to and store in security with all the rooms and the floor. So, video suffices.” As you angled your head back to sway, he leaned in and placed a kiss against your neck. It knocked the air out of you. “That- that costs extra, y’know.”
“Mhmm.” He guided you to lean your head the other way with the crook of his finger on your chin. “I’ve got deep enough pockets.”
You quickly lost control of the dance. Instead, you began to move based on what felt good for you instead of giving your patron all the pleasure. He began to notice your breathlessness.
“If you need a name to whisper, my friends call me Dick.”
“I bet they do.”
When your eyes closed, he looked you up and down. He waited until it looked like you were blissed out to mummer, “I really have to go.”
“Yes.” You dug your hands into his hair. “You should.”
With a deep kiss to your chest, he managed to push you away. “We both should go. Your bouncer will be waiting to see me to the door.” His big blue eyes held you in place. Trailing his finger down the side of your face, he managed to whisper, “if I had more time.“
“We could have a lot of fun.” You forced a smile and stepped off his lap. “Maybe some other time. When you come back, ask for Starfire.”
“I’ll do that.”
He helped you back into your robe and saw you to the dressing room door. The guard was outside, indeed ready to escort him out. Peacefully.
When he was few minutes down the road, the com-link crackled to life. Jason’s usually irritated calm voice had a tinge of worry. “Where are you?”
“On my way home.” Dick failed to keep the satisfied smile out of his voice. “I had to follow a lead.”
“Oh,” Jason teased. “Has Bruce Wayne’s golden child following daddy’s footsteps by claiming his first conquest?”
“No.” Dick rolled his eyes. “Maybe I just like this woman. Not to mention, she’s got a mean left hook. Might ask her to join the team.”
“That’ll be the day.”
***
The next day when you walked in, all the girls were waiting for you.
“So, how was your night?”
You ignored them with a smile.
They gathered around. One of them said, “Rebecca had a night with Bruce Wayne a few years ago. Said he was phenomenal.”
It was a hook. And you took the bait.
“She can keep him. I’ve got the better Wayne.”

Thanks for the tag @sbd-laytall
Rules: Make a poll with your top 10-12 least favorite ships ever and have your followers try to guess which one is your #1 notp, then tag people to do the same.
No hate to anyone, but some of these are just not my cup of tea, some of these I loathe with a burning passion, and some of these shouldn't even be seen as romantic.

Ships I ship in KF (I dont ship a lot of them) Plus this drawing of Marie and George
Marie X George- Classic, Amazing. These two were so obsessed with eachother. Literally no other excuse Marie would stay in love with him for 20 more years after his death. I know he would have been a great dad and they would have gotten married and been one of those old couples that bicker and then immediately make up
Martinez X Leslie - I know we don’t see lots of people shipping this but The way Leslie talked about her and seemed more wounded by her death was enough for me to instantly go “gay.” I think they’ve been dating secretly for awhile but never really said anything since the 70s were really bad with that
Forrest X Roddy - This is a crack ship. I think they would be so funny if they were a couple at some point and broke up for some reason.
Peggy X Barbara - I like to think that Peggy was jealous of Brad because she had feelings for Barb. Building on that I like the idea that they do start dating sometime after the good ending in KF. Imagining a scenario where forrest walks in on it and Peggy locks and closes the door and he just slides a little note under it saying “pls let me in im fruity too :(“ also Forrest is the only other person at KFAM that knows
Jason X Casey- Also work well as best friends but I like to imagine a slow burn with them. Something like Casey helping him through the trauma of almost being murdered and probably some semblance of anything he still feels guilty about georges death. I also like the song Ophelia for them
Thats all of them off the top of my head, I do think Carrie had a onesided crush on Jeanie but thats all

Restroom Attendant by @sanguineterrain

Heyy!! I saw your 12 days of christmas prompt before, and I was wondering if I could request a (slight enemies to lovers) Jack Thompson x reader fic, where it’s the reader’s first time in NY in December and she gets mildly overwhelmed by all the lights and stuff before running into Jack by accident?
Bridgerton
