2 - The Start
Beep. Beep. Beep
I slowly peel my eyes open, fighting the urge to fling my alarm clock across the room and curl back under the covers. Instead, slam my hand onto the off button and lift my body up from the warm cocoon of blankets and pillows. Why I do this to myself, I don't know. But every morning for the past 3 years, I have been waking up at 4 in the morning to go for a jog and make a stop at my favorite spot in the park to do some yoga.
Granted, it is refreshing and helps clear my head and allows me to stay in shape but... I just feel like these runs and the yoga aren't doing it for me anymore. I need something more. With that thought in mind, I smile and allow myself to lay back in bed. Today, I am not going to run. Today, I am not going to go to the park and do yoga. Today, I am going to sleep in and relish the extra few hours. Today, I am going to find something new to stimulate my body and mind. Today, it will be about me.
Running my hands over my face, I lift my arms over my head and do a full body stretch, moaning at the feeling of my body releasing its tension. I get up and head to the shower, unbraiding my hair along the way. Before I hit the bathroom, I make a detour to the kitchen to turn on my coffee pot only to realize that I had forgotten to buy more coffee when I went to the store the day before. Damn. Hoping I have some tea in the cabinet, I pull it open only to find my usual spot filled with a box of Earl Grey to be empty. Double damn. With a sigh, I head back towards the bathroom and get the water started. Turning to the mirror, I inspect my face. Surprised, I see that I don't have my usual dark circles under my eyes. What a difference a few extra hours of sleep can make.
Giving the mirror a nod, I hop into the steaming shower and begin the usual ritual of wash, rinse and repeat. Finishing up, I grab a towel and step out, drying the water off my skin. I wrap the towel around my body and pull open the bathroom door. I make my way back towards my bedroom and stop in front of my open closet. Time to take up the task of picking out todays outfit. Finally, I settle on a pair of olive green skinny jeans and a fitted cream V-neck. After getting dressed, I pull my hair back into my signature french braid and finish off everything else I needed to get done before I left for day. I made sure to give myself enough time be able to swing by the local coffee shop for my daily caffeine fix.
Stepping outside, I take a deep breath and smile. The spring air is refreshing. She needed this, it comforted her. Yeah, she went on her morning runs and did her yoga in the park but she never really felt connected. But this, just being outside, this is the connection that she needed. Call me earthy but Mother Nature gives me one hell of a high. Making her way into town, she walks past the park where she does her yoga. The trees are full of new budding flowers and the leaves are bright green. The air smells of fresh cut grass and of the always present smell of the ocean. She rounds the corner and walks into Cup of Joes. She is immediately assaulted with the smell of coffee. She takes her place next in line and takes a casual look around.
Taking in the cozy look of the shop, her eyes watch those who sit in chairs or share couches or even take a seat at the bar that is right in front of the window. She is still looking when she suddenly feels a pair of eyes on her.
Dragging her eyes towards the feeling, she makes eye contact with a pair of clear blue eyes. Embarrassed at being caught, she quickly drops her gaze and turns back towards the menu. She is focused on reading the different drinks they have when she feels somebody walk up behind her.
"See anything exciting?" A deep, chocolaty rich voice asks behind her. Her breath catches and she turns around. Locking eyes with those bright baby blues once again.
"Um, sorry?" Not sure if he meant her people watching or her deep reading of the menu.
"Your casual browse of the shop. See anything interesting or are you just another guilty people watcher? Though, if it's the latter, I can't say that I would ever admit it myself. But more power to you!" He trails on, clearly babbling.
I try to hold back but a bubble of laughter burst though my lips before I can stop it. Only, I don't stop laughing. I can't help it. I am feeling so good that the laugh is very much needed and very welcome. He doesn't get offended like most would.
Instead, he breaks into a wide smile and chuckles. "I wish I could say there was something to report but unfortunately, I was caught before I could finish my watch." I say pointedly, raising my eyebrow at him.
"Ah but you weren't the only one on watch. Seeing as I haven't seen you in here before, I was only doing a little watching of my own. But you caught me and here we are." He says, giving me a warm smile.
"And here we are." I repeat, not able to look away from him.
"How about this, I buy you a cup of joe and you join me in people watching." He offers, after a few moments of silence pass.
I give him a bright smile and nod. "I can't turn down a cup of coffee, even from a stranger."
He laughs and sticks his hand out towards me. "Hi, I'm Peeta. I like to people watch and would very much like to buy you a cup of coffee."
I place my hand in his, relishing in the warm, soothing grip as he gives mine a gentle shake. "Hi Peeta, I'm Katniss. I take my coffee black with a little sugar and that’s all."

Peeta’s Games; Throwing Sparks; The Mutt; and Back to Twelve - by Igsygrace @igsy-blog & available on AO3 - https://archiveofourown.org/works/8617210?view_full_work=true (Peeta’s Games)
This series is an #everlark Hunger Games retelling from Peeta’s point of view.
This was my contribution to the #AutumnDownunderFicExchange, and my bind for the lovely sleepycat.bindery - https://www.instagram.com/sleepycat.bindery/
Confession - I hadn’t read The Hunger Games yet, and ran to read them first. Then, I started on the Peeta’s Games series, and thought it might be a lil’ short for me to bind since my guestimations are always out of whack. So I thought, I’d bind the set as one. Again, cannot math. So that was going to be too thiccc, but by then I was inundated with ideas, so decided to just bind an entire set 😄.
I also might of got a little carried awayyyy whoops. I had a lottttttt of fun and spent a lotttttt of time creating the designs for the typeset, scene breaks, cover & dust jackets. I tried to do the chapter heading page designs from Peeta’s perspective. I used a mix of Procreate & Canva. I actually had a blast doing the HTV lol. I’ve never weeded so much in my life, but kind of found it thereaputic, and I really like how it turned out.
There were a number of things that made this my first cursed bind(S), the main thing being the textblock cutting/and then my endpaper/board cutting to match this, isn’t perfect by any means, BUT LET’S NOT DWELL ON THAT.
A hugeeeee thank-you to Igsygrace - https://www.instagram.com/igsygrace/ - for gifting us these amazing stories, which are written, so, so, so damned well.

1 - The Watch
I always start my days the same. Wake up, cup of coffee, shower, so on and so on and then I head out to work. Same everyday. Except for today. On days like these, I start my mornings with a run.
My new research project is a beautiful young woman. Dark hair, dusky skin and a scowl that could make any man back down. But not me. No, that scowl is what drew me in like a moth to a light. Those delectable lips drawn into an impossible line. She looked like she would be a fun struggle to be apart of.
So, I finished my run by the park where she did her yoga and headed home to start on the research on the impossible Katniss Everdeen.
