“you don’t wanna get mixed up with a guy like me.. i’m a loner, dottie, a rebel..”

this is probably my favorite thing i’ve ever drawn, bc it truly comes from the heart. pee-wee’s big adventure has been one of my top five films since i'd seen it as a kid, and i love it and laugh more each time i watch it, which is why i jumped at the opportunity to draw this poster for one of my favorite theaters that sold out at their screening a couple days ago! i couldn't be more proud or pleased.

i put a lot of work into the concept and details! pee-wee's costumes are in order of appearance, and of course, as said at the bottom, it's based on kraftwerk's tour de france cover, due to his dream in the opening scene. what could be better than combining an excellent album and film? i can’t put into words how much he impacted my personality, decor taste, and sense of humor so i’ll leave it at a simple “thanks for everything, pee-wee”! without you, i would have never started to feel comfortable being, in total seriousness, a silly little guy.

i have pee-wee stickers for sale in my shop, which i just resurrected, and will be listing this print, as well as a couple others, in the near future!

I guess I've always been something of a weird 80's media fanatic, thanks in large part to both my mom and dad for sharing pieces of their own childhoods with me as a kid. Nothing is more evident of that fact than my introduction to Pee-wee's Playhouse when I was maybe six years old.

Although I was born 14 years too late to have ever enjoyed the show when it first came out, the nostalgia my dad had for it made it possible for me to grow up with Pee-wee as a staple of my own childhood. I will be forever grateful for all all the joyous memories I made sitting in front of the TV, laughing at those rented Netflix-disc episodes.

Hope you rest easy, Paul Reubens.

Remembering George Armitage and Lynne Marie Stewart

Yesterday we lost two entertainers. Here is my combined remembrance:

Remembering George Armitage 1942-2025

Director / writer / producer George Armitage has died at 83. His best movie IMHO is 1997's crime comedy Grosse Pointe Blank. John Cusack (also a producer and writer) was excellent as a hit man who decides to go back to Grosse Point, MI when he’s invited to his high school reunion. He has to confront the one who got away (Minnie Driver) and his home which is now a convenient store. It also needs to be said that this film pre-dated The Sopranos and Analyze This in showing a hit man seeing a psychiatrist! Also a very good Joe Strummer score.

Early on in Armitage's career, he got a boost from Roger Corman. He became friends with another Corman protege: Jonathan Demme. Demme cast Armitage in a small role in his debut Caged Heat (which Corman produced), as well as Fighting Mad. Demme later produced Armitage's highly underrated 1990 crime comedy Miami Blues.

Armitage's last film was the Elmore Leonard adaptation The Big Bounce.

Remembering Lynne Marie Stewart 1946-2025

Actress Lynne Marie Stewart has died at 78. In her early days of comedy she was in The Groundlings with Paul Reubens, Phil Hartman and Cassandra Peterson. That early collaboration with Reubens was the first of many. She played Miss Yvonne, the most beautiful woman in Puppetland, in Reubens 1981 special The Pee-Wee Herman Show and on TV's Pee-wee's Playhouse (CBS 1986-1991). She also appeared in Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Big Top Pee-wee, and Pee-wee's Big Holiday.

Stewart's passing comes after the passing of co-star John Paragon (Jambi the Geni) in 2021 and Reubens in 2023.

She also had supporting roles in American Graffiti, Young Doctors in Love, Summer School, Moving, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (one of many she did with Elvira), an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Bridesmaids.
