Friends, pals, and internet strangers, please hear my desperate humble request for your help...
I am on the hunt for your favourite, most juicy, butt sex/anal play fics. It is a totally legitimate research project - the search for The Perfect Peach.
Of course, I will be sharing my findings with everyone in the form of The Perfect Peach Fic Rec list when the time comes, and I'll be adding to this indefinitely.
Ultimately, I am not fussy with what you send to me - I am open to any Pedro character, and any length fic (multi-chap? hit me! drabble? a-okay! oneshot? gimme!). The only rules?
must include anal play/anal sex/butt shenanigans
no deadline/time limit - my thirst is never ending
preferably, the P-boy is doing the butt stuff - this can be to a reader character, another character, another Pedro character...
self recs welcome!
(this last one exists because P-boy pegging fics seem to pop up for me all the time now, with great thanks to events like the Peg That Middle Aged Man Campaign)
Recommend a fic in the comments below, DM me, or shoot me an ask. Or, you can tag me! Feel free to tag me as and when you post, or slip me an @ in the comment section of a fic you think fits the bill.
And if you want to write some butt stuff just for me? Well, that's just peachy, and I might just love you forever.
I almost called this The Buttening, or a Buttstravaganza, but didn't want to be too weird.

can you write actress!reader and their daughter visiting pedro on set or pedro coming back home and surprising his daughter after being away filming please
i just love dad!pedro fluff
Warnings: surprisingly a touch of angst but really just a pinch I promise
âHi,â you smiled, greeting Craig âThank you for doing thisâ
âOf courseâ he reassured you âhe talks about you all the time anyways, and⊠this way heâll probably want to get scenes right, right away so itâs a win-winâ he joked, making you chuckle.
Suddenly, you felt a tug at your hand.
âSweetie, say hiâ
Your daughter looked up at Craig, her dadâs big brown eyes cute as ever.
âHi,â she waved, or at least tried to, wave at him.
âHi there honey, youâre bigger each time I see youâ
ââS not true, Iâm always the same,â she said between giggles
âOh no youâre growing my friend,â he said, crouching down to her level âNext thing I know youâll be taller than meâ
âBut thatâs impossibleâ she laughed
âWeâll seeâ Craig teased, getting back up to you.
âWe should goâ
__ __ __
"Heard that sweetie? we have to be real quiet now" You whispered as Craig led you onto the set
"Can you do that?"
She nodded, and you couldn't help but smile to yourself, she would have never been this obedient if not for what she knew was about to come.
"Here" Craig murmured as he closed a heavy white door behind you "We should almost be done with the scene"
You followed him until he stopped right in front of a little screen that showed what the camera was filming.
The scene had already started, and it followed Pedro as he walked around a makeshift apartment.
He had sent you pictures of him in character before, but seeing him in real life was much different.
They had made streaks of his hair and beard white, and he was wearing a black and green flannel that looked approximately a hundred years old.
You liked this rough look, he didn't believe you when you first told him, but seeing him now only made you more sure. He looked hot, and you made a mental note to tell him later.
Your daughter's hand was still gripping yours, but her eyes were wide with amazement as she watched her own daddy at work.
She had been down the whole day. It was a beautiful sunny Saturday and no matter what you tried to do with her, read her her favorite stories, bring her to the park, make the swing fly real high like she begged you do to each time... nothing worked, and only once you set her down to talk, she had confessed what was wrong all along.
She missed her dad.
You already had half a mind that's what it was, but you weren't sure, and when she finally told you, you felt your chest warm a bit.
Of course she did, just as you did,
Pedro had been really busy with this project, and he tried to be home as much as possible, God knows how much it pained him too, but today was Saturday, and he usually never worked on weekends, and as much as your daughter was used to not seeing much of him during the week, they used to spend every waking moment together on Saturdays and Sundays, and she didn't like the change of routine, not one bit.
The recalling of your morning was suddenly interrupted by a loud "Cut!"
The silence that filled the air before was gone in a second, as seemingly everyone rushed on set.
"You wanna go again?" Pedro asked who you assumed was the director.
"no we got it, it was perfect"
"great" Pedro smiled, starting to walk off the set, but the moment he did, something caught his attention.
"Daddy!"
You glanced beneath you, and to your amusement, your daughter wasn't there, instead, she was running towards your husband.
âWhat?" Pedro's eyes widened, but he wasted no time crouching down to catch her as she ran right into his arms "Peach?" he asked, hugging her tight while standing up.
"Hi" you smiled walking up to them
"Sweetheart!? what is happening?" he said, beaming
You shrugged, caging a grin between your teeth "We missed you"
And at that, he had to pause, his glimmering eyes glancing between the two loves of his life.
"I missed you so much Daddy!" your daughter joined, her pigtails hitting Pedro's cheek as she hid her face between his shoulder and neck.
"I missed you too angel" he promised, stroking her back and kissing her hair "Missed you a lot" You took a step closer, taking his free hand in yours and placing a gentle kiss on his lips.
"hi," you repeated yourself in a quiet whisper
"Hi" he smiled, kissing you again
"Hey!" your daughter suddenly interrupted, making both of you chuckle.
"sorry baby" you excused yourself, leaning away "he's all yours"
She made a satisfied sound before her eyes started attentively examing Pedro's face.
"you look old" she stated, making you snort.
Pedro feigned a gasp, clearly stifling a smile "What did you just say to me?"
Your daughter giggled âyou look old, daddyâ
âI canât believe this! You donât see me for a day and already think I look old!?â
âYour hair is white!â she laughed pointing at them.
âI can't believe this!â he kept up his farce, obviously entertaining her âIâve always looked like this! Since when do you not like my hair?â
ââS not trueâ she shook her head, still chuckling ïżœïżœïżœ This is not your hairâ
âIt sure isâ
âNo it's not, you have brown hair like me daddy!â She protested âtell him mommy!â She called for your help, turning to you.
âYouâre right babyâ you reassured her
âSee? Mommy says Iâm rightâ
âAlright, alright, you caught meâ Pedro smiled, giving up â Youâre too smart angelâ he kissed her cheek, starting to walk towards some chairs off the set.
Your daughter stayed gripped around him like her life depended on it even as he sat down.
âso did you have fun today?â he asked, setting her on his knees.
âMe and Mommy went to the parkâ
âThatâs niceâ Pedro smiled, stroking her hair.
âI wanted you to be thereâ she suddenly pouted, and you saw the look in your husbandâs eyes. You saw how much those words affected him, how much they pained him.
âI knowâ he said âIâm sorryâ
âIâll make it up to you sweetieâ
âHow?â she asked, with that sassy tone she had recently discovered.
âTomorrow, weâll do whatever you wantâ
âAnything?â her eyes sparked with mischief
âAnything, peachâ he promised seconds before she nestled into his chest again, hugging him even tighter.
â â â
In just twenty minutes, your daughter's soft snores started making their way to your ears.
You smiled, watching her sleeping so peacefully on her daddyâs shoulder.
âYou spoil her too muchâ you teased, your fingers gently playing with Pedroâs ones as you set beside him.
âHow could I not, have you seen her?â He whispered, still petting her hair.
A familiar smile spread on your face, but before you could fully take it in, a small sigh fled your lips.
âShe misses you, Pedro,â you said, your eyes finding his, and in them, a somber understanding.
He already knew. And it destroyed him every day.
âI miss youâ you added with a small frown.
He turned his palm to hold your hand, a small gesture, a small -Iâm here-
âI knowâ he spoke after a brief moment âI miss you tooâ
You nodded, a quiet understanding passing between you.
âIâll never work on weekends again,â he said
âPedro thatâs not in your controlâ You shook your head
âI donât care, Iâll stand my groundâ he murmured, his thumb drawing patterns on your hand âI canât go on like this sweetheart, I want to be there for you, for both of you, and Iâm tired of not doing that, Iâm tired of missing you all-day babyâ he whispered, frustration tracing his words.
You rested your head on his shoulder, a small -Iâm here- of your own.
âI knowâ you spoke, softly rutting your head against his shoulder âItâll be alright, weâll find a wayâ
âThank you for doing thisâ he murmured, feeling like the luckiest man in the world sitting between you âI love youâ
âI love you too babyâ you smiled, leaning up to give him a quick kiss.
And immediately, even if still asleep, your daughter's small arms tightened around his neck possessively, a small âdaddyâ escaping her lips.
You chuckled, as Pedro absolutely melted at the image
âSheâs such a daddyâs girlâ

Congrats on the follower milestone! đ can I request a ship?
Iâm 29, full-figured, kind of a homebody. I donât mind going out, but my inner circle is really small. Iâm very type A, organized, independent, and I at least pretend like I have my shit together most of the time. Iâm not afraid to speak my mind or get into a discussion or disagreement. But Iâm also willing to listen to different points of views and I internalize a lot.
Iâve been single for a long time, but Iâd love not to be. Iâm just kind of slow to trust, but once youâve got me Iâm loyal for life.
Iâm really big into movies, Iâll watch anything once. Also a big reader and a big nerd about my interests. Iâm really into astrology, Iâm an Aquarius sun, Capricorn rising, Scorpio moon.
Honestly one of my favorite ways to show affection (besides being supremely touchy-feely once I know someone) is just doing mundane things with people like running errands, doing chores, just existing with the other person in their day to day life.
Thanks so much for doing this youâre a peach! đ§Ą
I would ship you with Frankie Morales!
Frankie is a total homebody too. He loves hanging out with the guys, but heâd really prefer to stay at home and have them come to him. You just wanting to vibe at home is absolutely perfect to him. Heâs all about the cuddles and is always down for a movie marathon!Â
He also really loves just spending quality time together, doing whatever. Heâll take you to Target and buy you that ridiculous squishmallow then buy you coffee on the way home and you two can mindlessly do your work together in the kitchen with some music on. That intimacy is something really important to Frankie.Â
Depending on what weâre talking about, Frankie is either really well organized or a complete scatterbrain. His garage is practically organized by the Dewey Decimal System for wrenches or something. His closets? Like a bomb went off. He could really use and would totally appreciate your organizational skills!
itâs a party! send me a request and Iâll ship you with a Pedro character!

Dewarâs Double Double Series is a new range of blended whiskies that have been aged 4-times for ultimate smoothness.
Exciting times ahoy for whisky nerds around the world as Dewarâs has developed a unit four-stage ageing process to create, what they describe, as âultimate smoothnessâ in their whisky.
In their words:
âThis unique âdouble doubleâ 4-stage ageing process allows the Single Grain and Single Malt in the whisky blend to fuse multiple times in their individual oak casks before being aged together. They are then meticulously processed in a selection of sherry casks for the perfect finishâ
Hereâs a handy video that explains how this four-stage ageing process works:
So what is the Dewarâs Double Double Series all about then?
Brilliantly, the range â which is non-chill filtered and all been bottled at their respective natural colours â is comprised of some seriously well-aged whiskies, starting at 21 Year Old before graduating to a 27 Year Old with the Dewarâs Double Double Series 32 Year Old.
Each in the series has been finished in a different type of sherry cask;
The Dewarâs Double Double Series 21 Year Old has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks, the Dewarâs Double Double Series 27 Year Old has been finished in Palo Cortado sherry casks, and the Dewarâs Double Double Series 32 Year Old has been finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.
Dewarâs Double Double Series Unique Four-Stage Ageing Process
My tasting notes for the Dewarâs Double Double Series
Dewarâs Double Double Series 21 Year Old Finish: Oloroso sherry casks
Iâm always a fan of an Oloroso matured and / or finished whisky, these casks typically do wonders for the spirit and, if well balanced, can create something truly memorable, and this does not disappoint, not one bit.
Nose
When sitting with this dram, I was picking up a smooth spicy note with a nice amount of Oloroso sherry influence, an element of sweetness along with Muscovado sugar.
Palate
Definitely a nice smooth spicy note present that develops in the mouth over a couple of minutes as a fruity note softens and brings balance to the whisky. Thereâs a pronounced peach note, a waxy mouthfeel and a now-beautiful warming spice. Ooomph.
Dewarâs Double Double Series 27 Year Old Finish: Palo Cortado sherry casks
Palo Cortado can be a weird mofo, you donât see it often and when you do it always raises both eyebrows and smiles. Iâve only tried a handful of Palo Cortado matured / finished whiskies, this one was pleasantly smooth, fruity⊠but still a tad weird!
Nose
On the nose, I was immediately getting the dusty smell of old libraries, maybe a soapy note there too, stone fruit beautifully brings character along with an unexpected toffee and vanilla note. There is a muted smoke note there too which is superbly pleasant.
Palate
For me this one was fruity, smoky, lemony and totally unexpected⊠not like any whisky Iâve ever tried I donât think. Still really easy drinking, and I definitely enjoyed it, just a different animal. It grows on you too, so may seem a little odd at first, very briefly, then that citrus note sings superbly, as does a subtle honey note too and a note of those white and pink marshmallows I remember enjoying (too many of) as a kid.
Dewarâs Double Double Series 32 Year Old Finish: Pedro Ximenez sherry casks
Nose
This is easy; its beautiful. Fcuking hell thatâs an indulgent, immersive nose you just want to spend a hell of a lot of time with.
Palate
The palate was very PX, proper 80s style Speyside smoke and character present too, a lovely smooth sweetness, a lovely spice notes too and so many layers. A great finish just rounds it out. This is a near-perfect whisky, one I am hoping to spend a lot more time with before it sells out, without doubt my favourite of the three.
In summary
All in all a wonderful range, the four-stage ageing process has definitely delivered three wonderfully smooth whiskies, thatâs without doubt. Each different, each with its own character, and each packed with flavour that compliments one another whilst setting out its own personality too. Seriously good stuff.

Transparency: I attended the launch of the range, and the bottles were sent to me for review and photography, but, as always, my views, opinions and commentary remains 100% my own.Â

Salamina, in many respects, personifies Colombia. The brightly painted buildings so typical of the town are almost like works of fantasy. However, scratch the surface and another reality emerges. Behind the soft pastel facades of this national heritage town, evidence remains of the brutal class divisions that have scarred the country. The stories are everywhereâŠhidden in open view.Â
Sitting on a bench looking towards the cemetery and the surrounding valley, it was hard not to feel enchanted. A rainbow hung in the sky above my head. Birds chirped and the buildings all around me looked as if they had emerged from a paintbox: cream, baby blue, peach and a lively shade of grey. The buzzing cicadas brought the vegetation to life (a curious sensation in a cemetery). Yet, even here, the evidence of the past wasnât too far away.
A plaque opposite the entrance records two interesting facts. Firstly, the site is a Colombian National Monument. Secondly, a wall ran right through the middle of the cemetery until 1975. Its purpose was to separate the rich from the poor. In other words, class division in Salamina continuedâŠeven in death.
Cemetery in Salamina, Caldas
 Why visit Salamina?
Visiting the town requires a detour from Manizales, but the physical and architectural beauty of Salamina more than justify a visit. The buildings in the centre have earned the town National Heritage status, something that touristy Salento hasnât yet achieved. However, itâs the exuberant vegetation that often captivates travellers who make it to Salamina. Relative peace means that increasing numbers of people are âdiscoveringâ Colombia. In the process, local beauty spots like Salamina are opening up to the outside world.
Architecture in SalaminaÂ
Typical colours of Salamina, Caldas
Like every city, town or village in Colombia, the centre of Salamina is Plaza BolĂvar. SimĂłn BolĂvar, the military hero who led much of Latin America to freedom, died penniless in Caracas (modern-day Venezuela). In Salamina his bust stands in front of the fountain, the centrepiece of the square, and he gazes almost directly across to the Davienda ATM. Think about this! Fans of aguardiente, the local firewater, will note that the town drunks often hang out on the bench right in front of The Liberator. Â Indeed, we can only speculate about what the great man might have made of this location.
Interestingly, BolĂvar has his back turned to the church that dominates his plaza. Â It was apparently one of the first churches in Latin America to have been built without supporting pillars. Also, unsurprisingly in the local context, seating was according to social class. The upper and middle classes had designated seats in the centre or at the sides. Meanwhile, the poor could sit or stand at the back.
Outside on the streets is where the real architectural marvels lie. Houses climb sloping streets. Each one seems determined to outdo its neighbours in a battle of intricately decorated doors, windows, balconies, and zĂłcalos (the distinct lower sections of the whitewashed facades). Adding further drama to the scene is the hilltop location of the town centre. Entire streets sometimes appear as if they are about to slide off the side of the mountain.
Streets seem to slide off mountains in Salamina
 Local character and local charactersÂ
The town Culture Museum feels like a trip down memory lane. It houses a wide-ranging assortment of items that chart the social history of Salamina. My favourite was the Cimbalino espresso machine from the 1930s, a token of Italian sophistication in a far-flung corner of rural Colombia.
A remnant of times past
Museum interior in Salamina
Photos look down from the walls, reminders of town characters from times past. The museum curator is happy to tell the backstory of each portrait. Some were fond of the drop (of aguardiente), as the Irish expression goes. Others mysteriously disappeared during the troubled times. The violence of Colombian history was once an everyday reality in this area.
Places are more than memories on walls and Salamina is still full of interesting characters. Don Pedro, the owner of Frutty Caffé in the main square, is a case in point. Originally a native of Boyaca, he moved to the US when he was young and he spent most of his life in New York and New Jersey. A number of years ago he met his wife online and moved to the town. Having worked in construction, he had to learn the coffee trade from scratch. Today, he is a ball of energy who enjoys sharing the beauty of Salamina and its environs with visitors.
Day Trips from SalaminaÂ
Salamina from Don Pedroâs Finca
A visit to Don Pedroâs Finca makes a great day trip. With a dramatic location on the side of the mountain facing the town, the views are framed by lemons, mandarins, avocados, bananas, and plantains. Looking down, visitors will see the river that snakes through the valley below. Meanwhile, the views across to Salamina are near picture-perfect. A huge amount of work goes into tending coffee plants and Don Pedro laughs when he tells the story of a nearby town where coffee labourers reportedly dance for tourists. Picking coffee is hard work- literally backbreaking work!
Although there is plenty to keep people busy in Salamina, everyone should try to get to Valle de la Samaria. El Mirador is home to the one of the largest wax palm forests in the entire country. Cocora, near Salento, is like a small collection of trees in comparison. The road up to San Felix and Samaria is not always easy (see here for details). However, the rewards are views and memories that will last a lifetime.
Why you must go nowÂ
From the moment I set foot in Fruty CaffĂ©, the former town theatre before it fell down one night (read here), I was hooked. Salamina is a heady brew: a mix of colourful buildings, coffee, characters, stories, and living history. Locals understand the dangers of mass tourism and they want to avoid its excesses. However, with Colombia at the top of many bucket lists, towns like this are at risk. Alternatively, violent conflict could kick off again and sink everyoneâs plans.
Either way, the time to visit this spot is RIGHT NOW!
A bright blue zocalo in Salamina
 PracticalitiesÂ
Getting There and Away
Getting to Salamina is straightforward. There are regular buses to and from Manizales Bus Station. In addition to this, there is the option of taking a taxi. This is a better choice for travellers who are short of time or who need to make connections to other destinations in Colombia. Travellers can also take a bus to Aguadas, another heritage town north of Salamina. From there, it is possible to connect on to destinations further north such as JardĂn and MedellĂn.
Accommodation
Salamina is not yet on the backpacker radar, although this is changing rapidly. However, the result is a lack of backpacker friendly hostels. Hotel Colonial and Hospedaje La Casona offer good value for budget travellers. Those who want a bit of pampering should check out La Casa de Lola Garcia.
Travel South America: Why you should visit Salamina now Salamina, in many respects, personifies Colombia. The brightly painted buildings so typical of the town are almost like works of fantasy.

THE BEST OF WORLD CINEMA AT MIAMI FILM FESTIVAL GEMS 2017
By Rafa Carvajal
The 3rd annual Miami Film Festival GEMS 2017 is set to take place October 12-15 at Miami Dade Collegeâs Tower Theater. This fabulous festival is a fall extension of the annual, internationally-renowned Miami Film Festival that will celebrate its 35th edition March 9-18, 2018. If you havenât been to GEMS, make sure you purchase tickets to watch some of its films this year. To buy tickets, visit gems2017.miamifilmfestival.com. I have attended since its inception and the films have been outstanding. Among this yearâs many highlights will be the Miami premiere of Sean Bakerâs The Florida Project and the U.S. premiere of Antonio MĂ©ndez Esparzaâs Florida film Life and Nothing More.
GEMS 2017âs opening night film (Oct. 12) will be Luca Guadagninoâs Call Me By Your Name â considered one the the most critically acclaimed and Oscar-buzzed titles this year. It will be followed by the A TASTE OF ALTA ITALIA opening night party that will celebrate Octoberâs annual nationwide Italian Heritage Month. Another must see film will be Ruben Ăstlundâs The Square, winner of the prestigious Palme dâOr at this yearâs Cannes Film Festival, from a jury presided over by Pedro AlmodĂłvar. The Festival will also present a special seminar conversation titled Donât Take Yes For An Answer, featuring Miami-Haitian filmmakers Edson Jean and Joshua Jean-Baptiste speaking about their recently completed, eight-episode web series that was 100% filmed in Miami and due for release in 2018 â born out of a winning pitch that they made to the Project Greenlight Digital Studioâs first "Get The Greenlight Digital Series" contest in early 2016. Imagine you have a dream to create your own episodic series. You enter a three-minute pitch video and win the $25,000 top prize! That's what happened last year to actors and roommates Edson Jean and Joshua Jean-Baptiste. Join them and Festival director Jaie Laplante as they discuss the journey from shooting no-budget test-episodes to working on a new Miami set project in the community that inspired them; and learn why they are committed to telling homegrown tales and how their partnership made it possible.
For the first time in its history, Miami Film Festival will introduce VR Escape, a Virtual Reality sidebar, throughout the Miami GEMS 2017 in partnership with MDCâs Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC). You will be able to experience four 360° videos by Angel Manuel Soto, an L.A. based Puerto Rican artist/filmmaker and Miami Film Festival 2015 alumni with his feature The Farm (La granja).Â
Another great film at this yearâs GEMS will be NO, A Flamenco Tale. Flamenco has a very special place in my heart given my Spanish heritage. I sat down with NOâs director JosĂ© Luis Tirado to learn more about this GEMS 2017 jewel.Â
Rafa Carvajal: What is NO, A Flamenco Tale about? José Luis Tirado: NO, A Flamenco Tale is a musical film. It is an urban and contemporary flamenco opera. It is also a "docufiction," as it explores the hybrid and borderline terrain between the documentary genre and fiction stories. It is an experience of performative cinema, in which what is represented actually happens.
RC: Tell our readers about the main actors in the film and the roles they portray. JLT: In NO, A Flamenco Tale, the actors are flamenco dancers, flamenco singers, dancers of contemporary dance, etc., who interpret their own characters, adapted to the script. The story is driven by a main character, No, who plays the flamenco dancer NoemĂ MartĂnez Chico, who is the guiding thread, the "MacGuffin" that takes us to the different situations of the script. The flamenco singer, Rosa de Algeciras, interprets the first antagonistic character, who challenges our protagonist about her feelings of loneliness. RocĂo MĂĄrquez interprets the inner voice of our protagonist. The flamenco singer, Ălvaro RamĂrez, dedicates a few tientos and four tango scenes in which he interacts by dancing with Alicia MĂĄrquez, Aitor Matres, Maria Rosa Hidalgo, Ramon Martinez, Marco Vargas and ChloĂ© BrĂ»le. MarĂa Peña and Herminia Borja lead a revealing coven, in which they sing the truths of life. To the rhythm of rumba, Alicia Acuña teaches us that when everything seems to sink, life appears with its compass.
RC: What did you enjoy the most about directing NO, A Flamenco Tale? JLT: For me, the most enriching part is the learning process. Any project has a large component of learning, experimentation and risk. Imagining and being risky is what gives life to a project. Doing it collectively with a team that is your accomplice in the limits you want to surpass is exciting. Then, there is the perfect communication with RaĂșl Cantizano, the composer and, in many cases, interpreter of the music, that has flowed in a precise and fun way.
RC: What were your biggest challenges directing the film? JLT: The biggest challenge is to maintain the pulse and visual rhythm in a process that lasts three years. In the developmental phase, script, locations, etc; during the shooting, which lasted seven months; and in the post production and editing phases, etc., which lasted another eight months. Maintaining the intensity of the project during this extended time has been the greatest achievement.
RC: What would you like viewers to walk away with after watching NO, A Flamenco Tale? JLT: I would like for viewers to discover that it is possible to face difficult situations in life with joy and determination. That it is possible and necessary for things to change, but for this to happen, it is necessary that we first change our attitude. The greatest defeat is the defeatist spirit that comes to us from power as the only possible attitude. It is necessary for that reason to say, "No, we will not conform."
RC: How did you become a film director? JLT: From the need to tell stories to others, and also the need for this story to be complex enough to mean something in our knowledge of reality.
RC: Explain the power of flamenco to people who may not fully understand this timeless Spanish tradition. JLT: The power of flamenco basically lies in the fact that it is not necessarily a tradition, it is a living art that transforms itself, and reinvents itself every day. Capable of questioning itself, and of dialoguing with other arts in a contemporary space.
RC: What does flamenco mean to you? JLT: Flamenco is a language that catches you by the guts, at the same time that it distances you so you can have an overview vision. It is a universal language which in association with the language of cinema can be very powerful and universal.Â
RC: Describe NO, A Flamenco Tale in 3 words. JLT: In three words it is complicated, but I would say: "An iconoclastic musical." It can stand as a headline.
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers about NO, A Flamenco Tale or your role as the director? JLT: That if they go see our film, they will leave the room with a malicious smile on their faces; and then they will have no remedy: they will be accomplices of those of us that wish a better world for all. For more information visit our website: joseluistirado.es/p-e-l-Ă-c-u-l-a-s/no-un-cuento-flamenco.

GEMS Synopsis: Italian auteur Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love) makes splashy, sensual films brimming with big emotions, but the foundation of his work is a rare tenderness. In 1983 in the Lombardy countryside, an antiquities academic, Professor Perlman (Michael Stuhlbarg, who could earn an Oscar for this role), invites a young American Jewish scholar named Oliver (Armie Hammer) to stay with his family at their 17th century palazzo, and assist him with a summer research project. To the Professorâs dismay, his restless adolescent son Elio (TimothĂ©e Chalamet) soon falls under a spell of fascination with the gregarious, extroverted American. As Elio shows Oliver the natural delights of an Italian summer with nearby Swiss and French influences, exquisite dreams begin to take flight before our eyes â and those of Elioâs watchful father and mother, Annella. Call Me By Your Name, adapted by the legendary James Ivory from a novel by AndrĂ© Aciman, is swooning and alive â a new masterpiece. Sufjan Stevens contributes original new songs that add immeasurably to the filmâs heart-fluttering texture, and the film also does for peaches what I Am Love did for prawns! â Jaie Laplante
CANâT SAY GOODBYE (Spain, 2017) Director: Lino Escalera In Catalan, Spanish, with English subtitles
GEMS Synopsis: Balancing a barrage of unruly feelings with an air of philosophical wisdom, Spanish director Lino Escaleraâs feature debut, winner of four awards at this yearâs MĂĄlaga Film Festival, is an emotionally searing portrait of familial strife. JosĂ© Luis (Juan Diego) is dying. His daughter Carla (Nathalie Poza), a bored executive who self-medicates with booze, cocaine and male attention, insists her father keep fighting the grim reaper. His daughter Blanca (Lola Dueñas), an aspiring actress, is willing to submit JosĂ© Luis to palliative care and let him go gently into that good night. These conflicting attitudes lay bare the sistersâ divergent coping mechanisms and teach them a great deal about their own fraught lives. Watch this intense, smart, tender drama â and you might learn something too. â Jaie LaplanteÂ
ERIC CLAPTON: A LIFE IN 12 BARS (U.S., 2017) Director: Lili Fini Zanuck In EnglishÂ
GEMS Synopsis: For over five decades, Eric Clapton has been creating rock music deeply influenced by the blues. This documentary traces the guitar virtuosoâs career through the Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & the Dominos and his solo years, telling the stories behind hits like "For Your Love," "Layla," and "Tears in Heaven." Clapton struggled with the demands of the music business, tumultuous love affairs, drug addiction and the tragic loss of his young son. Featuring a candid interview with Clapton and drawing from an extensive archive of performances and home movies, Life in 12 Bars traces how Clapton coped with these challenges. We come away with a deeper sense of what has inspired so much memorable music. â Thom PowersÂ
FACES PLACES (France, 2017) Director: AgnĂšs Varda, JR In French, with English subtitlesÂ
GEMS Synopsis: AgnĂšs Varda may now be one of our oldest filmmakers, but her work possesses a youthful vivacity unparalleled among her peers of any age. Her latest documentary, co-directed with the mysterious French street artist known only as JR, is inquisitive and playful. The filmmakers board JRâs photo-truck â painted to resemble a giant camera â and travel from village to village, where they meet locals, talk to them about their lives and create immense portraits of them, which are mounted on buildings throughout their communities. Not unlike Vardaâs first film, La Pointe Courte, Faces Places pays homage to the vibrancy, diversity and dignity of life beyond the urban centers that typically dominate the big screen. Vive la diffĂ©rence! â Jaie Laplante
IN THE FADE (Germany, 2017) Director: Fatih Akin In German, with English subtitlesÂ
GEMS Synopsis: Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin (The Edge of Heaven) boldly navigates the confluence of cultures that comprises contemporary Europe. This new tale of terror and vengeance is just as brilliant as Akinâs previous films â and much more bracing. Katja (Inglorious Basterdsâ Diane Kruger) experiences the unthinkable: her husband, a legal advisor to Germanyâs Turkish and Kurdish communities, and her young son are killed in a Neo-Nazi terrorist bombing. As In the Fade draws us ever-deeper into the myriad ways that the legal system fails Katja, our heartbroken heroine takes justice into her own hands. Akin tackles the boggling complexities of modern violence with intelligence and focus. Kruger, meanwhile, is an actress of astonishing emotional dexterity, and In the Fade pushes her â and her character â to new limits. â Jaie Laplante
LIFE & NOTHING MORE (Spain, U.S., 2017) Director: Antonio MĂ©ndez Esparza In EnglishÂ
GEMS Synopsis: Still in the prime of her life, Regina works long hours at a Tallahassee fast-food stop, barely earning enough to scrape by and feed her two children â Andrew, an emotionally cagey adolescent, and her young daughter. When a charismatic stranger shows interest, Regina isnât sure she can muster enough trust to let him into her fraught life â and Andrewâs ongoing confrontations with authorities donât help matters. With smoldering resentment at his incarcerated father and dealing with a mother nearing the end of her fraying tether, Andrew is more at risk than he realizes. Dividing its attention â and compassion â evenly between Andrew and Regina, Life and Nothing More is an invigorating work of modern neorealism set on the fringes of urban Florida. Spanish writer/director Antonio MĂ©ndez Esparza displays an astonishing grasp of the conundrum of race, family and justice that suffuse our contemporary America. Life and Nothing More is essential cinema for our present moment. â Jaie Laplante
MY FRIEND DAHMER (U.S., 2017) Director: Marc Meyers In EnglishÂ
GEMS Synopsis: Thereâs something different about Ohio high school student Jeff Dahmer. To get through the days, Jeff plays the class clown, feigning spastic fits to attract attention. After school, he retreats to his makeshift lab, where he dissolves roadkill in jars of acid. No one could foresee what he would become⊠Based on the graphic novel by John Backderf â one of Dahmerâs former classmates â My Friend Dahmer is a grim origin story. Anchored by former Disney star Ross Lynchâs chilling lead performance, this is a terrifying, surprisingly empathetic look into one troubled teenâs descent into madness. Jeffrey Dahmer would later become one of the most notorious serial killers in American history. But here, heâs simply known as "Dahmer" â a not-so-regular high school student. â Lauren CohenÂ
NO, A FLAMENCO TALE (Spain, 2016) Director: JosĂ© Luis Tirado In Spanish, with English subtitlesÂ
GEMS Synopsis: A beguiling fusion of thrilling cinema and passionate music, NO, A Flamenco Tale sweeps us off to a land where the joys and hardships of life are expressed in breathtaking spectacle and song. Clapping hands, stamping feet, stirring singing, intricate guitar and arresting dance: flamenco is a tradition of bold, soul-piercing gestures. Spanish director JosĂ© Luis Tirado matches these gestures with a loose story about No, a dancer who works at a small venue in Sevilleâs Triana Market. At times No feels alienated by the world she inhabits, yet she finds communion in sundry public spaces where her dance provokes reactions from fellow citizens. Let NO take hold of your senses â and you too will be provoked, inspired and moved. â Jaie Laplante
SUMMER 1993 (Spain, 2017) Director: Carla SimĂłn In Catalan, with English subtitlesÂ
GEMS Synopsis: Winner of the Best First Feature Award in Berlin, Spanish writer/director Carla SimĂłnâs autobiographical coming-of-age tale is delicate, transporting and, in its confident, unassuming way, profoundly moving. Sublimely embodied by little Laia Artigas â whose arresting presence at times recalls the young Ana Torent â six-year-old Frida is sent from Barcelona to her aunt and uncleâs home in the CatalĂĄn countryside. Frida has lost both her parents, and though her new family is welcoming, her new surroundings overturn her inchoate understanding of the world. In its steady accumulation of precise, evocative moments â a childâs upturned face lit by fireworks; two girls sharing a bath and learning to hold their breath â Summer 1993 renders a time of tumultuous transition with grace and wonder. â Jaie Laplante
THE FLORIDA PROJECT (U.S., 2017) Director: Sean Baker In EnglishÂ
GEMS Synopsis: Following his micro-budget break-out Tangerine, Sean Baker cements his status as one of our freshest and most vital filmmakers with The Florida Project, pure film of the highest order; it reminds us that even in the direst circumstances life will always yield small yet unforgettable joys. Set in Orlando, this freewheeling film, like its predecessor, offers a big-hearted portrait of Americaâs marginalized. This time around Bakerâs subjects are 22-year old Halley and her six-year-old daughter Moonee. The pair resides in a cheap motel tucked near a freeway and a theme park. Halley struggles to pay for cereal and shelter, while Moonee doesnât let a little thing like destitution prevent her from exploring her surroundings or playing jokes on a motel staff-member (beautifully depicted by Willem Dafoe). Warm, winning and gloriously alive, Sean Bakerâs The Florida Project is a deeply moving and unforgettably poignant look at childhood.
THE LEISURE SEEKER (U.S., 2017) Director: Paolo VirzĂŹ In EnglishÂ
GEMS Synopsis: The Leisure Seeker stars Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren and two-time Golden Globe-winner Donald Sutherland as a runaway couple going on an unforgettable journey in the faithful old RV they call The Leisure Seeker, travelling from Boston to The Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West. They recapture their passion for life and their love for each other on a road trip that provides revelation and surprise right up to the very end. All ticket sales from this screening will be donated to United Way of the Florida Keys to aide in the Hurricane Irma Relief Fund.
THE WORKSHOP (France, 2017) Director: Laurent Cantet In French, with English subtitlesÂ
GEMS Synopsis: Laurent Cantetâs Palme dâOr-winning The Class was a profound examination of contemporary education in all its social and pedagogical complexities. Set in a summer creative writing workshop, Cantetâs new film, The Workshop, veers into a very different, very intriguing direction. Presided over by a published crime novelist, the workshopâs objective is to have its working-class, mixed race, adolescent participants collectively compose a novel set in their coastal French town. Reaching consensus proves difficult, and Antoine, the most outspoken, contentious participant begins to dominate â and destabilize â the proceedings. Under Cantetâs steely focus, The Workshop seamlessly shifts from a film in which people discuss a thriller to a film that is itself a fiercely intelligent thriller, grounded in the fraught socio-political landscape these kids are inheriting. â Jaie Laplante

a big, juicy thank you to everyone who has sent in a recommendation so far, and for indulging me in this little project this weekend.
fic rec post will be up at the end of the week, but I'll be taking any recommendations up until and beyond that point. we accept all manner of Pedro characters committing butt stuff here too, and self recs are welcome (DMs and my anons are open if you prefer).
we are currently bookended by bunnies, which is a wonderfully seasonally appropriate place to be.
