PEARL CERDAE ARE BACK

it has been a while, but I have finally gotten my pearlcatcher subspecies thread back up and running! you can find the species' info and lore here - they are a nature-themed exploration of disability, mild body horror, and faustian bargains.

you can also find some adorable badges I've made for the subspecies! I like these guys a lot, would mean the world to me if you checked them out :)

fully going ham with these beasts meet harte and lin theyre not registered yet and idk if they yellow is acceptable but theyre wormed into my brain (art linework from the subspecies thread, linked in both their bios)

Trying out drawing on a tablet. My pearl cerdae that does not want to be in the city but is kinda stuck there. Inhaling any of the spores from the moss on his body is not advised it is 100% poisonous. Also there’s a non-zero chance it is spreading to the buildings next to his little garden so maybe don’t breath in any spores.

My half of the trade with @crying-dragons , who wanted a pearl cerdae of their own!

Meet Zornhristh, a fire elemental cerdae who uses her bond to make controlled burns. I had so much fun designing her :)

they aren't officially registered, but Lief and a newcomer Thales have recently converted into pearl cerdae: they have made a pact with the viridian plant and been transformed by it.

Lief has always been passionate about adhering to the ways of Nature and cultivating plants. He is resentful towards his violent mother, and was happy to trade the raptor-like hindclaws he inherited from her for cerdae hooves. Now he feels less tethered to his past, and more in touch with Nature.

Unlike Lief, who has lived in Nature his whole life, Thales was raised in Arcane. Years ago, vir mother foretold that Thales would someday travel across Sornieth to find vir destiny. Vi did not want to leave behind all vi knew, but an ailment eventually forced vir to do so in search of a cure. Vir mother accompanied Thales all the way to Nature, after hearing of the regenerative abilities granted by the pact with the viridian plant.

Thales and Lief met while they both sought the plant in the depths of the forest. They were comforted by each other's company, since the pact was nothing to be taken lightly. Lief is now covered in ferns and flowers of all covers, while Thales has sprouts of lavender and crocuses. With one healed and the other changed, they both seem happy to have taken the pact.

she's a pearl cerdae (subspecies), not a dragon for starters. like a standard cerdae, frith is devoted to the care and protection of the earth.

frith is your archetypal witch - solitary, secretive, and has a large wealth of knowledge around earth-based magic. they arent terribly involved in the politics and problems of the wandering city, for now. but the wandering city itself is verrrry nosy and likes playing dolls with its residents, so she'll absolutely have a part to play at some point. (this is my excuse for saying i havent developed her as much as i would like to...)

oh! a thought i had while writing this! so, the wandering city's physical senses are located in the mycelium network that dominates the tunnels and sewer labyrinth underneath the city surface. being a witch that works with the earth, they're probably the first ones to realize that the wandering city is a physical body with a brain and intelligence. but frith never felt the need to divulge it - mostly because she felt the others wouldn't understand yet.

i feel as if she has a subtle rivalry with pris, the herbalist / botanist, as they both mainly work with plants and fungi within the wandering city. and, yknow, pris is a plague dragon, which probably doesn't help matters.

hm since frith apparently goes down in the sewer labyrinth often enough to deduce that the mushrooms and fungi are a nervous system, then i can say that they're fully and well aware of who and what the entities living in there are. but again, doesn't feel compelled to share that information with anyone else. which absolutely drives the archivist / librarian midora insane. what do you mean you knew. what do you mean you withheld this from everyone. what do you mean

does anyone know of a good subspecies masterlist? i found one but it doesn't seem to have some of the popular ones (pearl cerdaes for example)

flight rising tumblr do you have any general lore for wind clans or nature clans youre proud of? theyre the 2 elements ive had the most trouble pinning down a vibe for. posting what i have (and some brief bit of my lore for the other elements to put them into perspective) below the cut, but id love to hear what you all have in terms of lore for them

Nature: genuinely not much. 2 pearl cerdae that help guard the behemoth. the mother of snakes, a dragon who volunteered to enter the pox consulate after the armistace was broken to atttempt to seal it up and prevent it from spreading who was infected (not outright killed by luck of being born to plague) and changed into a strange beast with 3 snake heads, keeping mutated creatures in and healthy dragons out. aiming for a more brutal vibe i think?

Wind: again. basically nothing. i keep just making farmers--lotta sheep come from the windswept plateu. a few bards too but nothing Interesting, no anchoring point of conflict or creativity.

Arcane: nothing -_- magic experimentation i guess? i had some dragons who were once turned to stone as a punishment for suspicion of spreading arcane secrets, but my other dragons are very mundane which is not as fun to me. i also have a weird monster from space? i could go space ways...

Earth: focus primarily on archeologists and grave robbers, as well as long-dead creatures brought to life by a shifting in ley lines

Fire: definitely leaning into the magmablood rebuke, forgemasters and rebels, bigotry and classism, pollution and unionizing

Water: ive made a breakthrough leaning into the darker sides of their lore (prisoners and the like) but leaning into sea witches and pirate crews. the core story is an undead former pirate who died in a storm and her wife who searches for her, most of my water dragons are either related to the search or former crew members

Lightning: scrappers and engineers, industrialization and innovation. trying to survive in a climate that hates you.

Ice: outward expansion of gaoler outposts and increasing shade incursions. guides across the ice field.

Light: so much. investigation into ruins of past civilization, secrets and lies, shade bubbling up beneath.

Shadow: behemoth ghostly warriors in the brambles, dragons that mislead for fun, a faction of fanatics determined to blot out the sun.

Plague: a wasteland empty, capitalized on by strange magic-users and crime rings. the illegal gladiatorial pits originated here (<-borrowed lore). the undercroft is a honeycombed metropolis stretching deep underground, and within it a dragon creates flesh constructs, seeking revenge on those who scorned her.

hey massive pearl cerdae fan here. would you be okay with me making another subspecies based off of the pearl cerdae? Mostly they would just be based off of a different type of familiar, but I still wanted to ask if you were okay with it - I love the amount of work you’ve put into them! I’m also so glad you let us advertise more cerdae on the PC thread, makes it a lot easier :)

Thank you! I'm not sure what you mean about a subspecies based off the pearl cerdae. If you want to make a subspecies based off another familiar, that should be fine? If your lore and concept are completely different from mine, I don't mind you using a similar thread layout :)
