Some photos I took documenting the closing performances of Mongrel performed by 3rd Year Music Theater students at the Grant Street Theater, VCA. I helped out with props and scenery during scene changes and viewed the show at times from the wings.

Today I worked on the first two pages of the program, in which i included a page of the ceremonies at the Woodford festival. Using the images that i had already sourced i Placed them on the document and started working on the layout of the different images. Using the Rectangle Tool and also the Rounded rectangle effect in the layout and structure of the images. For the tab that says CEREMONY i simply created that by using the Rectangle tool and then adding a color fill and using the text tool to add text and then rotated it. Later as seen above I ended up using the Transparency effect to take a little of the boldness out of it. I added the text bubbles and used the same structure as i did with the images which is working quite well for me. I am very happy with the font and the size and the text and the pink color on the headings of the text bubbles and i think the design works well. I added the background decorative image to make the page seem fuller and more interesting and it worked really well, I used the transparency effect to make the image less bold so it wouldn’t take away from the main content design. I then moved on to the front cover page and added the image i wanted and worked on the layout of that before moving on to the text, for which I used a different font from the rest of the program’s font and it certaintly had the desired effect.

The Program. Creatively this was a really interesting project to work on as I hadn’t worked with InDesign at all before, and while I had done some poster design, designing a readable and coherent program is an art within itself. Nevertheless I feel this was a pretty solid outcome for a first timer. This has been an absolute pleasure to work on. Now I just hope some awesome playwright, musicians and lyricist (Tim Minchin I’m looking at you an Lin Manuel Miranda) to pull together something truly magical. Because I can only imagine the hit that this would be. You saw it first here.

My poster for Indesign project ready to be printed and plastered over the city. Based the theme around one of H.P. Lovecrafts cults from his writing.
I like the simplicity of it.

The final programme! I am so happy with how this turned out. Had I had more time, I would have liked to put in even more pages and make it the size of a proper professional programme, however I’m content with what I’ve presented. From the colour scheme, to the layout, the fonts and the photographs used, I am very proud of my final Performance Design Technology assignment for 2016.

And here are some of the pages of my final Programme (I can’t upload them all)! In total there are 30 pages and 16 spreads! Now to do the final submission and I’m done with Performance Design Technology!

Here is my finished poster design for Performance Design Technology. Everything about this event is boring. The location of the event is in Queanbeyan - a town just outside of Canberra, thought by Canberrans to be even more dull than Canberra. It’s on a Tuesday at 11AM. The activities are boring. I think my design is reasonably successful at communicating the boring nature of the event.

The original concept of my film when I was planning and in development. Initially I was going to recreate a couple of scenes from A Clockwork Orange, in particular a scene at the beginning of the film where an old homeless man is assaulted by a gang of youths known as Droogs. I had invited former classmates from my theatre course to participate. However due to unavailability I changed to a young girl who could fight back and defend herself and the leader of the Droogs and an offsider. I didn’t want to replicate the scene entirely, but make similarities and indicate that it was set in 2016 by making references to social media.

Today for the program I began by going through the different aspects of the Woodford Folk Festival because there are quite a few different genres of music as well as dance, cabaret, circus, art and circus workshops, talks, the children’s festival and performers on the streets of the festival as well as maps and programs included in the official program. Therefore I began by going through all the aspects and choosing the ones that not only were the most interesting to me but also that would make sense in this compressed program of such a huge festival with so many attractions. The next process I went through was to choose certain artists/acts and then source images of them. Using the place tool I began to link them onto the program and experiment with placement and formatting much of which required the use of the Rectangle Frame Tool, later adding text bubbles with the Rectangle tool and then using the Fill tool to add the color and then the Transparency effect to make sure the text didn’t take away from the image.

The Poster Would you go and see this? I think you would. I sure as hell would. Very very proud of this design. From it’s beginning to it’s completion it’s gone of like clockwork. As a little bonus I’ve thrown in the initial sketch I did on my phone. See how far it’s come. This is the sort of design work I love doing!!

The final pages of the programme, complete with a Telstra ad on the back page.
The image of the Lilac Fairy gown seen on the left hand side was one of the first images that I found during my research, and was a continual inspiration for the colour scheme and design of the programme. The quote on that page was taken from The Australian Ballet’s website, detailing the extraordinary work their costume ateliers are capable of.
On the opposite page are a continuation of biographies of the Creative Team - Set/Costume Designer, Lighting Designer and Sound Designer. I am so happy with how this programme has turned out and have had an absolute blast creating it.
