𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘: your friend group has a certain game they like to play at your co-ed sleepovers–one that was exhilarating and full of tension. naturally, what’s a girl to do but use her wits and charm to win over the heart of the boy she’s playing with? and what if he’s the one pulling the strings all along?
𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒: teens being teens, fluff and flirtyness, kissing and cooties! it’s implied that they’re dating the reader or at least have mutual crushes
𝐂𝐖: use of fake knives and nerf guns lol

𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐫. 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞.
“hey blaze, wanna go see something cool?” you ask suddenly, tilting your head and batting your eyelashes up at the tall werewolf.
he purses his lips, black ears twitching against his dark red curls. a suspicious hum leaves his lips for a moment as the rest of the group warily watches on.
“okay!” he goofily smiles, shrugging and following after you towards the house’s basement door.
“blaze… don’t fall for it.”
“but she’s such a trustworthy person!” he protests against the group’s warnings, beginning to follow you down the dim staircase.
you hold back a snort at his enthusiastic voice, wondering if he was playing up on his usual airheaded tendencies or if he really thought you weren’t going to kill him off from the game down here.
“the basement, definitely super romantic and cool and not suspicious at all!”
he definitely knew. you giggle as you make it to the end of the staircase, standing at the bottom as you awkwardly try to think of what you want to “show him” besides the plastic knife in your pocket.
“your laugh is usually cute, but when it’s so mischievous and in a dark basement it’s kind of creepy,” he shivers, backing up towards the stairs again. “actually… i just remembered i need to do something!”
“wait! you said i’m cute, right?” you snatch onto his flannel, dragging him back towards you—or rather dragging yourself towards his much heavier and unmoving body.
“yeah…”
“um… wanna… make out?”
“yeah!” he switches back to his himbo cheerfulness, very eagerly leaning down and pressing his lips against yours.
you indulge him for a moment, before your puckered lips spread into an evil smile and you’re pressing the plastic knife into his abs. a disappointed sigh leaves his lips as he dramatically sinks down to the floor to play dead.
“not cool, you’re gonna leave me in the spooky basement?” he pouts, his fluffy tail laying flat on the ground.
“you’ll be fine,” you giggle, pressing one last kiss to his forehead and happily skipping up the stairs to finish the round. “see you later!”
𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐞!
“where is everyone…?” you trail, feeling uneasy as you look for all of the friends you were separated from.
your search is interrupted when you hear footsteps rapidly approaching you across the grass of the backyard.
despite knowing this was a silly game with friends, turning to see a six foot three beast of a werewolf sprinting at you with a plastic knife in hand was still a terrifying visual. you couldn’t help the terrified yelp that left your lips as you sprinted away from him, knowing your efforts were futile.
you’re caught up to within barely a few seconds, strong arms nearly crushing you as he scoops you up. a squeal leaves your lips as you cling onto his shirt, feeling your feet leave the ground.
“wait! wait!” you screech, heart racing as you catch your breath.
“nuh-uh,” he laughs.
you groan when you feel the knife firmly placed against your back, limply dangling in blaze’s arms.
“caught you.”

𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐫. 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞.
your arms boldly slink around garroth’s shoulders as you lean onto him from behind where he sat, your face snuggling up to the side of his cheek.
automatically he tenses up, eyelids narrowing as his vision darts over to you from the side of his eye. he mutters your name suspiciously, but one of his hands comes up to softly grab onto one of your arms.
“hey, garroth,” you whisper into his ear, holding back the amused giggle that fights to escape your lips. “i was just wishing a tall, hot blonde guy would go into the closet to make out with me…”
garroth sighs, his ears turning a bright red where your breath ghosted along the skin.
“you said that last time, and i died.”
you can tell he’s trying to make his voice monotonous and unimpressed, but the amused intonation at the end of his sentence tells another story. your chest presses against his back, and the breathy, mischievous laughter that exhales from your lungs shakes the both of you.
“no, i’m for real this time!”
“oh yeah, that sounds perfect,” he sarcastically quips back. “i’ll go with the girl trying to seduce me into the closet with no witnesses.”
“garroth… would i ever betray you in such a way?”
“you just did a couple rounds ago.”
“yeahhh,” you drawl out, placing a kiss on his cheek as you quickly place the knife over his heart and press down. “sorry.”
he sighs, slumping forward on the table to play dead.
“so cruel and heartless,” he jokingly pouts, and you have to restrain yourself from placing another kiss on his jutted lower lip.
𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐢𝐞!
“garroth, i’m sorry. why don’t we hug it out?” you suggest, arms spread wide as you look up at the blonde expectantly.
he rolls his eyes, leaning down and tightly wrapping his arms around you. after a moment you pay his back, expecting to be let go, but realization hits you as it’s his turn to giggle at you.
the light rumbling of his laughter vibrates against you, before you feel the plastic knife pressing right up against the small of your back.
you groan, going limp in his arms and leaning your head back as you sigh in light hearted annoyance.
“wowwww, okay.”
he continues to laugh, leaning over and letting you slink down to the floor before gently letting you rest on the ground.
“sorry,” he smiles, looking the least bit sorry before leaning down and placing a kiss against your lips.
“i’m so gonna haunt you.”
“i wouldn’t mind a pretty ghost following me around,” he smiles back, before getting back up and running off to finish his job.

𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐫. 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞.
“gene, wanna go make out?” you casually ask, smiling at the older boy cheekily and attempting to ignore the attractive look he stares back at you with.
his head falls back and he rolls his eyes, smirk plastered on his lips as he sighs in contemplation from where he sat.
“see, how am i supposed to refuse when you ask like that, though?”
“like what?” you tilt your head innocently, lacing your hands behind your back.
he pointedly stares at you through hooded eyes, before stretching up from his seat and shoving his hands in his pockets.
“alright, where are we going to make out?”
you shrug and guide him out of the house, passing a few people as you go.
“where are you two going?”
“to make out, apparently.”
“don’t tell me you’re falling for that.”
“it’ll be fine,” gene drawls, waving his hand as the two of you exit the house. “i have a feeling on how this is gonna end, but i’ll take my chances.”
“well, whoever’s the cop—be ready when she comes back alone,” you hear someone say as the door shuts behind you.
you only take a few steps before turning around, pointing the knife at him with a small innocent smile on your face.
“damn, not even gonna give me a small chance at a kiss before you kill me?”
“so sorry,” you apologize emptily, the cheeky smile on your lips leaving when he leans forward into the knife, grabbing your face and devouring your lips for a moment with his own.
you blink at him in shock as he pretends to cough in pain, keeping forward into the ground and rolling onto his back to play dead.
“it’s alright, you will be later,” he smirks back, laying flat on the ground and staring up at the stars.
𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐜𝐨𝐩. 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞!
finally! you found where your friends had been all round… only to see that they were all sprawled out on the floor, motionless. you take a cautious step into the room, slowly turning your head to the tall form standing in your peripheral.
you hear a few snickers from the ground as you and gene stare at each other, with your hands on your hips.
“well, it’s just us, huh?”
“yep.”
you don’t have enough time or a chance to pull out the gun, instead having to run away down the hall and through the back doors as he suddenly sprints after you.
“nooo! nonono, gene!” you call out, fumbling for the gun in your pocket as you run through the grass.
“why are you running?” he asks, the amused smile on his lips heard through his voice without even having to glance back. “don’t run from me.”
you point the gun back, shooting and missing the boy entirely, wasting your last bullet. one more stride and he catches up to you, knocking the gun out of your hand and restraining you against him with one arm in a single swoop.
“wait! don’t!” you frantically scramble as he presses the knife up against your chest. “i will… um!”
“mhmmm…” he tauntingly hums, letting you continue.
“…go out? …with you?”
you whine as he presses the knife down against your chest, slumping over as he hunches over and slowly lets you down to the ground. deep laughter leaves his lips as he looks down at your pout, hands on his knees in amusement.
“sorry, that’s not a good deal if you already do that, doll.”

𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄
𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐫. 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞.
“laurance, follow me,” you tug on his shirt, backing up as you try to lure him out of the room.
“i’m not falling for that, silly girl,” he leans down towards you, smirk plastered on his face. “where’s everyone else you walked off with, then. hm?”
“falling for what?” you follow him as he starts backing away from you and towards the door. “i just love you so much. i wanna show you!”
“uh-huh, right,” he nods, before turning and taking off outside into the cool night air.
“laurance! wait, let me show you!” you laugh hysterically. “i wanna show you how much i love you!”
“get away!” he laughs, using his soccer skills to dodge and run away from you in the grass.
you manage to catch him, jumping onto his back and using the momentum to tackle the both of you down to the soft grass. your legs straddle his torso as you both catch your breath, chests panting for air.
“now it’s just us…” you trail, dragging your index finger across his lower lip.
you pull on it before leaning down and pressing a kiss to his lips, simultaneously plunging the fake knife against his chest.
“that was both terrifying and hot at the same time,” he breathes with a smug grin.
𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: 𝐜𝐨𝐩. 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞!
“come on, you don’t trust me?” laurance tilts his head, pouting as you indecisively point your gun back and forth between him and katelyn—the rest of your friends laid out on the ground. “ouch, that hurts.”
katelyn stares at you with a deadpan expression. her and laurance have their arms raised in the air in surrender, leaving you as the one to make the game-settling decision.
“um…”
“don’t let him woo you, you’re better than this—“
“she went off with aphmau alone and now aphmau is dead!” laurance insists, leaning forward towards you. “it’s obviously her, be smart. you’re smart.”
“um… i’m sorry katelyn!” you apologize, sending a bullet out toward katelyn’s stomach.
she laughs with a groan as she sinks to the ground. you come to the realization that you, in fact, made the wrong decision when nobody else gets up, leaving you and laurance at a standstill.
“…i’m out of bullets.”
“you better run…” someone mutters with a snort on the ground.
strings of shouts and scared curses leave your lips as you take off down the hallway, searching for any bullets to use now that you’ve cornered yourself at one end of the house.
“oh no!” you yelp, socks sliding as you land against a wall, laurance’s hands trapping you in before you can scramble anywhere else.
“hey,” he jokingly bites his lip, staring at you with faux seduction.
you sigh dramatically. “just kill me.”
he giggles, stabbing you with the knife before placing a kiss against your cheek.
“hey, it’s not your fault my charm works so well—“
“shut up.”

hihi! hope you’re doing well :)
i was wondering if you could write headcannons for phoenix drop high Gene, Garroth & Blaze with a popular reader? like reader is well known in phoenix drop high, super energetic, kind and captain/leader of a big sports team/club? maybe just general headcannons (including how the two get together?)
tysm <33
A/N: i had a lot of fun writing this!! im sorry it took a while, i was sick when the request was sent and got sick again in the middle of writing im good now - for the most part at least
i hope you enjoy read this! :3
!! WARNINGS !! i feel like PDH!gene needs a warning of his own, gn!reader, you/your pronouns used
Gene:
You were the volleyball club president, the cheery type who had a knack for making friends.
Gene is in no way fond of the popular types; so then why did you catch his attention?
Why does his heartbeat pick up when he sees you smile, when he hears your laugh?
Gene is a selfish person, he takes what he wants - and in this case he wants you.
He considered trying to find something to blackmail you with, and get you to join the shadowknights.
But you always had people around you, and everyone knew what he was like, so there was no way they'd let him pull you away for a private conversation.
But he found himself with the perfect opportunity one day after school.
Your teammates had other obligations they needed to attend to; this left you to put away the equipment.
He dismissed Sasha and Zenix (mainly Zenix as he had a tendency to speak without thinking).
He approached you, and offered to help clean up.
It was almost unnerving how nice he was being - you may have been a friendly person but you weren't stupid. you knew he was planning something.
You chose to be nice to him, but you kept your guard up.
Time passes and you guys finish cleaning up, you say goodbye to Gene, and leave.
Only after you leave does he realize he didn't even bring up you joining the shadow-knights.
He just spent time with you, talking and hanging out like you were old friends.
This is the first thing that made him question his plan.
PDH gene is by no means a good person - but even he has some morals.
After this you would say hello to him in passing and make small talk - again acting like you two had been friends for years.
You were just too sweet, and it chipped away at him.
Eventually he completely forgot about forcing you to join the shadowknights.
Although you weren't a shadowknight, you were friends.
And not just with him, you were nice to Sasha and Zenix too.
Sasha had gotten rather attached to you, and although Zenix would rather die than admit it - he quite liked having you around.
Of course other people questioned why someone as sweet as you would be friends with them. Were you being forced?
you would always respond with “they're actually really nice” - Which no one believed of course.
But Gene quickly shut down all the questions, and no one really wanted to get on his bad side; so they stopped asking you about it.
Your relationship with Gene slowly changed, you two never acknowledged it.
but you both knew you weren't just “friends” anymore.
Gene isn't the type to be explicitly romantic or loud with his affections - he's more subtle about it.
He asked you out in a very casual way - you two were hanging out at his house.
You were scrolling on your phone absentmindedly while he was playing a game, when he suddenly asked:
“Do you wanna go to the coffee shop this weekend?” “Sure!” “It's a date then.”
No beating around the bush with this man.
It's an interesting dynamic between you two - but he wouldn't have it any other way.
Garroth:
Garroth is a naturally charismatic and sociable person.
This, along with him being the baseball team captain, meant it was only natural for Garroth to be well acquainted with other sports captains.
You were the track and field team captain.
Much like Garroth you were charming and peppy, and had a tendency to naturally draw people to you.
On the first day of the new school year, you were tending to the track and field club’s stand.
Some other club leaders asked for your help; because of this a handful of nearby freshmen got the impression that you were helping with everything, and not just your own stand.
You were happy to help, but you didn't anticipate being suddenly surrounded by a large group of over-excited freshmen who kept talking over each other.
You tried to help them all, but it was getting overwhelming.
As if he could hear your thoughts, Garroth redirected the freshmen to the mentors - he also offered to help out with the track and field stand.
He wasn't very busy with the other members tending to the baseball stand.
You gladly accepted his help - although you and Garroth were friendly before this, you weren't very close.
After this day your friendship blossomed; the two of you would often spend free time together and even help each other with team captain responsibilities.
If either of you had a match, the other would be sure to come and cheer.
With the two of you being as popular as you were, it was only inevitable for rumors to start about you two dating.
Garroth brushed it off and acted as though he wasn't affected by the silly rumors - but that wasn't really the case.
Truthfully he had been harboring feelings for you for some time, and these rumors gave him a chance to see how you'd react to the idea of you two dating.
He did sometimes flirt with you, but played it off as a joke causing you to respond with joking flirtation of your own (was it really a joke tho).
When you didn't seem opposed to the idea, his heart jumped out of his chest.
He took the first chance he got and asked you out.
He's so cute guys I love him.
Blaze:
You had been the tennis team captain for over a year - your popularity grew along with the tennis club as you led the team to win many matches.
had been receiving complaints by team members about a group of werewolves that kept stealing tennis balls in the middle of matches.
A few lost balls wouldn't be much of a problem, but they kept doing this until the players had none left.
You knew if you went to the werewolves responsible yourself the chances of them listening to you were little.
So you opted to go directly to the principal - so far she seemed a lot more competent than the previous principal, so you had hoped she'd be able to help you.
But these hopes were quickly diminished when she said she couldn't intervene as it was a “werewolf issue”.
You argued it was affecting the tennis club members who were human and meif'wa as well.
But she made some vague excuse about having a meeting and told you to talk to the werewolf studies teacher about it.
After having any and all hope in the new principal destroyed, you went off to find the werewolf studies teacher.
When you explained the situation to him he informed you that this was the responsibility of the “alpha” and he couldn't do much.
By this point you were getting very frustrated - you had to run all over the school to find someone to help, only for them to tell you that they couldn't do anything.
To your relief you were informed that the werewolf alpha was Aphmau (you decided to not ask why a human was the werewolf alpha).
You weren't super close with Aphmau, but you met her once when you and Katelyn were playing tennis - you’d had some friendly interactions since and you had hoped that she wouldn't dismiss you like the last two people.
You managed to find her as she was talking to a red haired werewolf - you had seen him around a few times. His name was Blaze if you remembered correctly.
She was friendly as usual when you approached her, but you noticed she seemed more tired and even a bit frazzled.
You explained the situation to her and she was very understanding, but you could see that just thinking about handling this made her look even more tired.
That's when Blaze interrupted and said he was happy to help, as aphmau had to focus on choosing an alpha male - whatever that means.
You were ecstatic, after all that running around you finally found someone who could help.
Blaze was very sweet- and although he was a tad clueless when it came to certain things, he certainly had the spirit.
You helped Blaze find the responsible werewolves and at first he was explaining to them that they shouldn't steal things that don't belong to them.
However after they were not very receptive to this, he took a more,, “hands on” approach.
You knew after going to this school for some time that werewolves would often solve conflict by fighting.
But you didn't expect blaze to throw the werewolves out the nearest window and then jump out after them???
You just wanted your team members to be able to practice in peace.. How did this happen-?
By the time that you reached downstairs where they were, the group of werewolves were standing in front of Blaze, looking down silently.
Blaze was grinning and looked very proud of himself - he seemed to be waiting for you to tell him he did a good job.
You didn't expect a 6’3 werewolf to be so.. Cute?
You thanked him for his help and told him he was welcome to play with the tennis team whenever he pleased.
In the following weeks your friendship grew - he would join your practice in his free time.
Although when he did it was mostly him chasing after the ball and forgetting he's supposed to hit it with the racket.
As you grew closer, Blaze started noticing that his feelings towards you were changing.
He always thought you were rather cute but he didnt think too deeply about it.
But his desire to be around you grew.
subtlety isn't Blaze’s strong suit - the second he realizes he has a crush on someone, he starts following them around everywhere and his affection grows tenfold.
He's a naturally affectionate person towards his loved ones, but you noticed that it's different with you.
One day you decide to ask him about it and he just looks at you and just flat out confesses.
He was under the impression that he was being quite obvious.
He's so <3333
I love him
Immensely

OMG
YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT THIS REMINDS ME OF
THIS VIDEO FOR SOME REASON
also did you know i actually rewrote my own science notes digitally from last year for this request’s header
lol, hope you like it, nonnie! this one's built a little different for the sake of the #narrative.

sir raymond (he insists you use his nickname) always has an unhinged tale or two from his youth (he’s still in his mid-20s) up his sleeve, but the class doesn’t mind it with how he always manages to link it back to earth science, your last class of the week (well, before club period). he graduated from the university bordering phoenix drop, and he’s currently reminiscing about how he and his mates used to cling to its outer gates and hover above the sidewalk on the way there to avoid getting their clothes soaked by the flood whenever it rained (even just a little bit). it hasn’t improved for that area in ru’aun, but it’s always been like that. he should be getting back on topic in 3…2…
your train of thought is interrupted by garroth getting up from the table next to you when a senior pops by the classroom window and makes some motion that only the two of them understand. the class is used to it by now, so he’s able to quietly excuse himself and leave early for varsity duties. before you know it, his figure disappears down the hallway, basking in the afternoon sun. you’re about to chase after him to return the notebook he’s just left behind, but your name written slightly bigger than usual catches your eye.
you almost get caught zoning out when turning a page of his notebook reveals something you’re sure you’re not supposed to see. your cheeks heat up and your heart starts racing.
Tumblr media
I’m pretending to be taking down notes, but really, I’m just writing this. Don’t get mad?
Anyway, so so sorry I can’t stick around again this period! Would it be alright to take a look at your notes during lunch period after intrams? I should be able to free up my schedule around that time now that the team doesn’t need me around when there’s no practice. The guilt is seriously eating me alive by relying on you more than I should for Earth Sci, can you not decline the next time I offer to make it up to you?
Speaking of, you should head over to the gym after club. I think the rest of the varsity teams need another pair of eyes to get them to work faster, and so we can finish event prep early. Your friends should be there too, I think? Still, I’d be happy to show you around myself! I can help you fend off anyone if they decide to annoy you.
Irene help me, I feel Sir’s stare on me right now. I’m definitely next to be called on for a question. But thanks to the Divine (I hope so), I can hear my team captain about to round the corner of the hallway outside and call me out for practice and intrams. Hope you don’t get called in my stead. Seriously. Now that’d be another thing to apologize for.
Getting off track now. Anyway! Really hope you’ll drop by later. Your company’s always welcome and such a delight to ha

Attention (Part 2)
╭──────────.★..─╮
Description: Following a bout of shameless one-sided flirting, the MS boy(s) finally flirts back - drabbles.
Included: Garroth, Zenix, Vylad, Ein
CW: Ein.
AN: Do people like to read Ein X reader? Like, his character is so cruel and obsessive after PDH that he’s basically a mustache twirling villain. So why, one might ask, did I decide to write him? Well… I suppose he seemed like fun to write.
Part 1
╰─..★.──────────╯
Garroth Ro'Meave
There was a point in Garroth’s life when he could’ve been considered a bit of a flirt. That’s not to say that the boy had casanova levels of one liners, but that he knew just the right thing to say if he wanted to make someone’s heart flutter. He’s since moved past that time in his life; at least he thought he had moved past that point.
“What do you think about these pants?” You ask as you give a small spin, allowing Garroth a better view of your assets. The boy can hardly hold back his gaze as it trails your body. When he finally has enough sense to meet your eyes, Garroth finds that you’re grinning. “It’ll last longer if you take a picture.”
“You um…” Garroth’s mouth hangs open as he attempts to reply but modesty is determined to fail him. Not only through his words, but through his actions. He can hardly stop his eyes from drifting down your body once more.
You shift in place slightly when Garroth doesn’t give a full reply. “Geeze, do they look that bad?”
“No! That’s not it at-!”
“Garroth.” You say the boy’s name with a playful lit. “I’m only teasing.”
“Huh? O-oh, of course.” The panic that had begun to build quickly subsides when Garroth sees the look on your face. You grin from ear to ear, amused with your own antics. The flurry of emotions earns a dry laugh from Garroth as he turns away from you once again. “They look comfortable, I guess.”
“Just comfortable?” You muse, stepping out past the confines of the changing room and reaching out toward your companion. Garroth finds himself holding his breath as he awaits your next move. He doesn’t want to say or do anything he’ll regret later but the way you lift his gaze to meet yours is making it really difficult not to.
Against his better judgement a comment begins to slip past his lips. By the time he catches himself it’s too late. You stare at the boy with wide eyes.
“Garroth… what does that even mean?” You wonder in genuine confusion. “What does ‘your eyes are beautiful but I bet they’d look better on my bedroom floor’ even imply??”
“I don’t know! It just slipped out!”
“Garroth, you’re killing me over here!”
“I’m sorry!” If the boy wasn’t blushing before, he was definitely blushing now. Garroth knows very well that what he said was anything but charming, but you laugh.
You laugh and Garroth laughs with you.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Zenix
“You wouldn’t know what flirting is even if it hit you square between the eyes.”
Zenix frowns at your unwelcome observation. How did a conversation between coworkers about customers suddenly become about flirting? The last thing he needed after handling an irritating customer was to be lectured by you; much less to be lectured about flirting. His pride wouldn’t allow it.
“Not true!” Zenix insists, eyes narrowing on you as you continue making drinks. “Flirting is obvious.”
“And what, exactly, constitutes as flirting?”
“Are you seriously asking me that?” Zenix rolls his eyes at your question. What counts as flirting was so obvious that even he knew, so why bother asking such a question? “Pick up lines and bold actions. Obviously.”
“Oh my Irene…” You mutter out between short fits of laughter. “You’re not wrong, but you are naive.”
“Naive?! You’re just being an ass!”
“I never said it was a bad thing. Though…” You state. Before Zenix can get another word out you chuckle to yourself. “...your sharp tongue is something else entirely. There are better uses for it.”
You put the drink you made down on the counter before turning your attention over to Zenix. He can’t quite put his finger on it but your demeanour has changed. The smile on your lips now falls just before it reaches your eyes.
You take a step toward the boy and allow your gaze to quickly trail across his body. Before he knows it you’ve closed enough distance that he can clearly smell the sweet scent that clings to your uniform. Still holding his gaze, you slowly reach up and fix the collar of Zenix’s uniform - something you’ve done plenty of times before but somehow feels different from the other times.
“You clean up quite nicely.” You let your hands linger against Zenix’s shoulders. When you don’t get much of a reaction from the boy you tilt your head ever so slightly.
Just beneath the collar of your uniform Zenix catches a glance of colour. Curious, the boy brushes back your hair and leans in to get a better look. To his surprise, this ultimately drives you to jump back.
“What are you doing?!” You exclaim, eyes wide and cheeks flushed.
Zenix narrows his eyes at you. “What am I doing? What were you doing?”
You open your mouth to reply but shut it as quickly. After a prolonged silence you finally laugh to yourself and your regular demeanour returns. “It’s just as I thought.”
“What’s ‘just as you thought?’ Was there something on my collar?”
“No.” Your reply comes out gently as you adjust the collar of your own uniform. “By the way, those drinks are for table nine. Be a good boy and take them there for me.”

Vylad Ro'Meave
“Vylad… I’m bored.” You drag out the vowels of the boy’s name as you lean your back against his. “Entertain me!”
The boy peeks one of his eyes open to glance at you from over his shoulder.
You return his glance with pleading eyes. “Please?”
“I told you that meditating isn’t for everyone.” Vylad muses. He more or less expected this kind of reaction from you - not because you were a restless sort of person but because you always want attention when you’re with him. The boy can’t help but liken you to a cute, domesticated animal of sorts.
Unsatisfied with his reply you lean further back against Vylad’s back. The sudden pressure causes the boy to shift along his bed. “How much longer are you gonna meditate for?”
“It was supposed to be for fifteen minutes straight but you distracted me.”
“What?!” You gasp. “Fine. I’ll just… entertain myself for a while.”
With a huff you pull yourself off of Vylad’s back and sit up on his bed. Even without looking Vylad can tell that you’ve begun to narrow your gaze. It’s only a matter of time before you try something else.
A few minutes go by and Vylad is surprised that your self-entertainment has nothing to do with your phone, but his surprise doesn’t last long.
“Hey Vylad.” You call the boy’s name in a sing-song kind of way. “What do your parents think about me being alone with you in your room?”
“I’m sure they’re fine with it.”
“Even though we’re being so quiet?”
“Still fine.”
“And the door is closed?”
“Perfectly fine.”
Vylad can hear you laugh to yourself after he gives his final reply. He’d be lying if he said it sounded innocent. In fact, he was almost certain you were about to try something. Whether that was singing at the top of your lungs or rolling off his bed he wasn’t sure. You tend to be unpredictable like that.
What he didn’t expect from you was how close you suddenly decided to get to him.
You lean in close to the boy’s ear, your lips just barely hovering over the skin. Vylad doesn’t give you the reaction you want but you don’t make it easy. He can feel the ghost of a grin against his skin and just knows you’re up to no good.
“Say, what would it take to raise your parent’s alarms?” You whisper in an almost sultry way.
In complete contrast to you, Vylad takes on an indifferent tone and shrugs his shoulders. “Do you want to find out?” Vylad lets his words hang in the air before finally opening his eyes. He was expecting you to be flustered, but not nearly as much as you were.

Ein
There are a lot of things that can cause Ein’s day to go from bad to worse. Listing and ranking every single thing would be a pain in and of itself, but there is one thing about that list he knows for sure: it’s the fact that you are at the top of it.
And now you’re sitting on the table where his books were supposed to be.
“The hell are you doing here?” Ein spits, his eyes practically tearing through your flesh.
“Isn’t it obvious?” You laugh in that mockingly familiar way, crossing your ankles where you sit. “I’m here to check up on you, sweet little pup.”
“Don’t call me that!”
“Why?” You ask, a grin beginning to form on your lips. “Would you prefer I call you a bi-”
Ein slams his hands against the table and takes pleasure in the way your body stiffens at the sound. “You keep your mouth shut, human.” He growls and bares his fangs.
“Trying to start a fight, little pup? Because I doubt that’ll go over well with him.” You quip as you flick the tip of Ein’s nose. The action causes the boy to reel back with a scowl. “I know you don’t like it when ‘weak little humans’ give you orders, but surely you’ll make an exception for me.”
“And why the hell do you think I’d do that?”
“Is that really a question you need me to answer?” You laugh a disgustingly confident laugh. It all but makes Ein’s skin crawl. When the boy’s ears begin to lay low and flat against his head you become noticeably amused. “What’s wrong? I thought you loved playing second fiddle to me?”
What little patience Ein has suddenly snaps. In a heartbeat the boy has you trapped between himself and the wall. He knows how much you hate it when he enters your ‘personal space’ or whatever you call it. Judging by the way your breath hitches, Ein knows he’s more than within the bounds of your ‘personal space.’
“Don’t make me put you in your place.” Ein mutters as presses himself between your legs. He allows his teeth to hover over the soft flesh of your neck and revels in the way your body trembles beneath his. “What am I saying… I bet you’d love that. Even now I can feel your heart trembling beneath me.”
“Speak for yourself.” You utter, your voice soft and breathless. “I’m not the one wagging my tail, little pup.”

(Y/n),
I know I'm usually flirting with every girl in the school, but I want you to know I'm not actually all that.
You've helped me realised that there's more to me than what Dante depicts me as, and for that I thank you. Would you like to be my Valentine? Or we could take things slowly and be friends. I don't mind.
But happy Valentine's Day regardless to the prettiest person I know.

Hello friends! welcome to the prologue of my Garroth x Reader series. This is my first fic, and I haven't actually written anything in years so please bear with me. I have a vague plan for how I'd like this series to go and if that works out, it will be followed up with PDH, FCU, and Mystreet sequels, just like the actual series (though probably not written in that order cause my attention span would kill me)
There will also be some tragic Gene x Reader featured in this series so be forewarned about that.
Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An MCD Garroth x Reader series
"Legendary" prologue
"You have got to be joking..." The heart wrenching emptiness of the snack bag in your hands was more annoying than problematic, seeing as you were only about twenty minutes from town. The all too familiar urge to reach into the supplies you'd gathered over your journey crept in, but as always, the thought of seeing Garroth's face light up when you brought back the various supplies you found on your journeys was enough to keep your hands on Delphi's reins instead searching through the wagon she was pulling.
Oh, how you missed seeing that dorky helmet and hearing his unsure attempts at cracking jokes everyday... how you missed him, your best friend who always greeted you with a smile you didn't need to see to know was there, who lets you travel around to "help the village with supplies" when you both know that the only useful things you really bring back are food and new contacts (after all who doesn't need a good "I know a guy" friend) but the villagers loved getting to purchase fun new trinkets every time you came back and Garroth knew it kept you from getting too restless, so he gave you his blessing to essentially become the town wander, but you preferred the term "casual diplomatic relations coordinator/goodies gatherer"
Seeing Zenix again was also near and dear to your heart. He could be a major prick, but he was your brother after all...in heart anyway, which was enough for the two of you. You fought more often than not but you both had a soft spot for each other and were the closest thing to family that you both had.
Of course, your friendships with the other villagers were deeply cherished but it was hard to not have a special bond with the two of them. Garroth has a knack for finding people stranded in the woods, he brought you back to town only a week before finding Zenix who was only a kid at the time, and without any memories of your life before he found you wandering alone, it was easy to grow attached to the first two people who really made a difference in your life.
"Garroth! She's back!!" You perked up and slid off Delphi's back as you saw Zenix approaching
You threw your arms around him and laughed at the embrace that finally meant you were back home. "Brother, I missed you! Are you well? How is everyone?"
Zenix was interrupted by the all too familiar voice of your dearest friend who was always more relived by your safe return every time. "You're safe, welcome back" He took Delphi's reins from your hands and began to lead the small group back to town as you clamored on about your journey and why it took so much longer this time, how many people you met, how much you missed home, on and on and on.
Rolling his eyes was Zenix's only facial expression but his inability to stop asking questions was enough to keep you rattling on until all the villagers came and went with their fair share of useless trinkets and food for the week. When they were all done and gone Zenix left with the last two bags of supplies to take back for the guards. Garroth who had been silent the entire time, took hold of the empty cart and followed you back to the stable by your house with Delphi.
"I'm glad you're back, I almost sent raven out to look for you" you chuckle lightly at his concern and pray the torches aren't bright enough to show the blush that creeps onto your face.
"It was only a day long delay, Garroth" he sets down the wagon and turns away a bit, but his face remains pointed towards you as you tilt your head looking for a response.
Fully turning back to you he begins to inspect the details on his gloves, a painfully obvious que that he's flustered himself again. "I'm aware, it's just...it's dangerous out there, and you know we're vulnerable right now without a lord. I just don't want to see you get hurt."
Garroth is a caring person, you know this firsthand, but even still his heart and kindness manage to melt you every single time you speak to him. It's like he was born to be a beacon of hope, and his protectiveness is bound so deeply in his nature you can't help but want to protect him for a change. You don't know every detail of his past, but given yours is not available to you, it's a privilege he was willing to share with you all he did.
You didn't realize you were placing your hand on his arm until his head snapped up to meet your gaze, the slight glimpse of blue through his helm was enough to make you lose your train of thought for a moment. Though he didn't pull away, the feeling of his muscles tensing in your hold was enough for you to bring your hand back to you. "Thank you, Garroth. For always caring so much...for everyone."
A slight chuckle echoed from his mouth; you almost missed it. "You do not need to thank me for doing my job"
The grin that crept onto your face was almost involuntary, but moments like this were important to you. Making sure people knew the difference they could make, the good they would do was important to you, even though you knew Garroth would never fully believe you.
"It's not just your job Garroth, it's you. We both know that. You've changed so many lives and you keep so many people safe, it may not always work out but that's not nothing. Don't ever forget that, please"
Your heart fluttered at the all too familiar smile you heard in his thanks, how he's managed to keep the sight of it hidden all these years was a mystery to you, but it was none of your business, you only hoped silently that one day he'd trust you enough-
His hand began to flex towards yours and your heart skipped in your chest...before he brought it up to scratch his neck instead. Clearing your throat, you began to turn away from him. "I should really get to bed. Rest up from the long journey"
Garroth nodded. "Of course, I should be going. Long day tomorrow." You took a few steps back and he began to head back down the road before turning for a moment more "It's good to have you back. Goodnight" You smiled back, a little to dazed to truly recall your reply.
Your loving bed was unfortunately not enough to keep your thoughts from drifting back to the man who always seemed to keep them occupied. Looks like you won't not be getting much sleep tonight...
Note
wait I already asked for sum but I'm asking again — haha sorry
fem werewolf reader x garroth - my street location but after all the chaos so garroth is a werewolf too
nobody knows reader is a wolf as she got bullied for it when she was young, way before high school and she learned how to hide her ears and tail so she always did and eventually it became about of an afterthought at times although it was a topic she hates thinking abt
reader is Katelyn's best friend as they used to play volleyball together in pdh, garroth and everybody else obviously knows her too but Katelyn was closest with her. She always kept her friend group smaller than most and she was knows to be sweet, although she had an attitude and a sarcastic tone at times, which Katelyn loves most about her. tldr garroth and reader become close but he feels detached from everyone, as if he's keeping them at arms length, due to his trauma. Garroth has a breakdown in public when hanging w everyone (for reasons you can think of sorry Juliet 😭) and idk things happen and reader opens up to make him feel better and smooch they're baes
a/n this is such a fun request i LOVE this !! and tysm for requesting <3 i have a few other requests which I'll definitely get to eventually :)
not proof read !!! sorry, wrote this at half 2am and i really didn't wanna read it through😭
also the pic is from Pinterest:
Garroth Ro'meave x fem!Wolf!Reader.
Love.
A social construct made up by lonely people who find sorrow in their isolation. Yet, no matter how much versatility love had in the eyes and, most importantly, hearts of people, the pain and adrenaline and even the dependancy love can cause is seen as a fundamental process of loving and being "normal". Now, I know this sounds pessimistic and something that a typical single, and way too desperate to mingle, person would say, I adore the idea of love and the feeling it gives us. Sometimes, life feels so meaningless and unnecessary, so the feeling of love and even the hurt or happiness it can often bring can make us as people feel so much less alien.
Now, the reason i'm so fixated on the topic of romance is due to the current predicament i find myself in. In high school, my friend Aphmau fell desperately in love with Aaron Lycan, it was cute. What was even cuter was the fact they stuck it out and are even currently engaged! Sure, we lost a figurative single soldier who ended up being taken but that was fine, it was fun fos us to gossip about and hope we could have what they have. Kawaii— no, Nana got into a relationship with Zane which was... unexpected to say the least, but it was nice to know Zane had opened up to someone other than Aphmau and that Nana finally had something she had always wanted. Katelyn broke up with Jeffory in high school too, she went through a tough time but i knew my best friend was going to be okay, and soon enough she was. However, what was NOT okay was that she ended up in a relationship too! I mean, of course she's an adult and i want the best for her and i truly am happy but wow, now i have the least amount of relatability, even to my best friend, all because Travis finally wooed her. I hadn't expected to be the only one on mystreet that was single.
Well, only single female, that is. There was Dante, who still had yet to manage his own love life but he recently went on a journey of self discovery and trying to be happy with who he is and not feel as though he had to change himself in order to be loved romantically. Kim and Lucinda were also single, although they never showed much interest in getting into a relationship, well not Lucinda at least. Kim seemed like she might just be too awkward to even try. But they didn't matter, i wasn't all that close with them, even though Lucinda and Kim felt closer than Dante due to the events of what had happened at the lodge... yeah, those experiences definitely brought us closer.
There was also Garroth...
Garroth Ro'meave, what a character. He's somebody that is incredibly attractive, objectively of course - i personally don't have feelings for him. He has this gorgeous head of sandy blonde hair, long enough to tie up into a tiny ponytail but still short enough to have tendrils of a mellow gold sticking out at the front. His skin was a pretty tan colour, he went outside alot and although he put on sunscreen, he never really bothered to apply more throughout the day so especially after coming back from holiday, his skin was lovely, sunkissed even. And although i could go on and on about his muscles and peculiar yet endearing fashion sense - I've yet to mention his best feature.
His eyes.
They were Sapphires, beautiful gemstones that shone with such luminosity that only the most expensive crystals could achieve. Although, the colour of his eyes moreso resembled Aquamarines, or perhaps even Blue Agates. His eyes were even more radiant when he smiled or laughed, and oh my god was his smile charming to say the least.
Everything about him was just - wow..
But again, don't get an ill idea, I simply see him as a friend. Maybe even a close friend. After the lodge, we had all gotten closer, especially as the feeling of loneliness often felt deadly at times.. Garroth and I had gotten much closer after the lodge, especially at Starlight as many tensions had eased between everyone and people had finally relaxed. Even now, we hang out much more often as we are some of the only single ones out of our close friends so we just gravitate towards eachother.
Unfortunately, I had grown a bit more distant from Katelyn, my ultimate best friend. After coming back from the lodge, we all spoke of course but there was so much.. uncertainty and lack of trust. It was as if we needed to reevaluate our friendships and see if they were genuine and not just Ein somehow hurting us again. We were broken. And of course the others that were not at the lodge didn't understand the change. Katelyn was never truly in touch with her emotions nor how to handle them, let alone other people's emotions. Of course she had realised there was a slight shift in my behaviour, especially as it wasn't just me. Everybody had noticed Aphmau's depression, and Katelyn was growing more confused. She wasn't able to speak to me as seriously as she wanted to or as deeply as she wanted to, so i managed to undermine how i was feeling each time she had asked. But, we both knew that a lack of much needed communication can cause cracks or gaps in friendships. Although it was obvious she felt guilty for not "getting through to me", I knew i was at fault.
Katelyn hasn't tried asking about the lodge or anything else about the time period of which we all came back from there since. She must realise how much of a sensitive topic it is. And, although I sometimes feel lonely knowing she's out having fun not missing me and instead replacing our hangouts with dates with Travis, I'm happy she's happy and I'm happy i have Garroth now too.
Truth be told, Garroth went through unforgettable things, specifically being turned into a werewolf via excruciating pain and suffering. He doesn't like talking about it, and while his ears and tail are always out, he doesn't like people mentioning them or bringing them to everybody's attention. He wasn't ready for the kinds of conversations he knew he was bound to have with everybody if he allowed them to talk about them or even just acknowledge them.
He just wanted to be Garroth, it seemed. And he was never not Garroth to me. I wish he realised that I of all people would understand.
I, too, am a werewolf - well, a wolf at least, but I've always hidden it. Nobody knows, I always intended to tell everybody but i was so so scared.. I was bullied relentlessly in my younger years for being a wolf.
I never had it easy, I was adopted by humans that didn't know i was a pup right away, so when my ears and tails had been shown after they had already signed the adoption papers, they kept me. They didn't know how to raise a pup so they brought me up like they would a human and unfortunately sent me to a human school.
I went to human schools up until high school, so until i was 14. Needless to say, it was the worst. I got beaten physically and verbally, jumped, stolen from and some people even tried to light my fur on fire, so i forever have had a burn scar on my left ear. Although i seemed brave and string after those experiences, i never got over them. Sure, i moved forward, but i dont think i ever truly moved on. Yes, Garroth and I have different experiences but I so desperately sympathise with him as i understand the pain these transitions can cause, and even just what being a wolf can cause. I want him to let me in, but there's no way in hell I'll force him into that. So for now, my friendship with him is enough.
I care for him deeply, and although i said i didn't have any interest in him, it was a pretty obvious lie.. I don't know if i would say i love him yet as its incredibly early to say such rash things but I definitely like him more than anybody should be able to like someone. But after what he's been through, I doubt romance is even on his mind, let alone me.
~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆
I turned on my side, staring aimlessly out of my window that resided next to my bed. The sky was an endless sea of midnight blue which was littered with glimmering stars.
I sighed.
I checked my phone around 10 minutes ago, so it was currently around 04:48 am if i had remembered correctly. It was getting harder and harder to sleep, and it didnt help that i kept thinking of Garroth.
Helping Garroth. Hanging out with Garroth. Liking Garroth. The beauty of Garroth. Just Garroth.
It was like a fever dream, only thinking of one person in millions of separate scenarios, i sound like an obsessed fan. I cringed, knowing i had to get up at about 11am tomorrow at the latest as I had to be at Aphmau's house by 12. She was having a hangout with everybody on mystreet as she felt like everybody had been so tense after recent events, she was always so sweet and looked out for everyone.
Well, I guess I need to at least try to sleep.
~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆
Yawning, my clenched my fists and rubbed my eyes with them, i looked beside me at my bedside table where my digital alarm clock was.
10:13.
I was kinda proud of myself for getting up at a somewhat reasonable time and getting at least 5 hours of sleep. I had some pretty bad eyebags from having sleepless nights often, but i always hid it with makeup.
I got ready within around an hour and a half leaving around 20 minutes to walk to Aphmau and Aaron's place. I was actually really pleased, i felt nice today. I sprayed myself with my favourite perfume and left my place, grabbing my phone and keys before i left. I saw Zane ans Nana holding hands as they walked into Aphmau's house a few houses down, they were super adorable to be honest.
I walked to her house and hugged Aph as she greeted me. I sat down and glanced around the room, immediately realising i had been the last to arrive. I sat down next to Garroth which was one of the only seats not occupied by a couple. Everybody was chatting loudly in a fun light hearted manner, clearly happy to feel free of any tension towards one another. I turned to Garroth, wondering why he had kept so quiet.
Immediately, I had a good idea of why.
His normally honey toned skin looked pastey and blotchy, his eyes were red and tearful and his hair was unkempt. Had nobody else noticed the support he clearly needed??
"Garroth.."
He turned to me and attempted to give me a sweet smile and whilst he looked pretty like usual, it was disingenuine and full of melancholy.
"Yes, Y/N?"
I just looked at him, and my sympathy must have been misunderstood as pity as he suddenly stood up and spoke, "Don't do that."
"Do what?" I got up too, wanting to be on the same level as him.
"Give me that look o-of pity! Don't pity me, Y/N. I'm strong."
"I know that Garroth I just—"
"Just stop!" He exclaimed and although it wasn't loud enough for many other to hear, thank god, it had left me feeling scared for him. I just wanted him to be okay, dammit.
He left Aphmau's house, i quickly ran to the kitchen to say goodbye to Aphmau. I felt no need to expose Garroth to her so i came up with the classic "family emergency" excuse. Somehow, it worked and she allowed me to leave in my hurried state. Assuming Garroth went to his house, I ran over there as quickly as I could, which wasnt too hard considering I was a wolf, and knocked on the door. Unfortunately, it had been left open anyways so I peered in, seeing Garroth curled up on the couch, his ears drooping.
I walked in quietly and closed the door, although his long distance hearning abilities due to his new werewolf attachments heard me.
"Y/N please, i don't want your pity." I sat down on the floor just below him so i could see him face, although his eyes were looking at anything but myself, "Good thing I'm not here to give you pity, then."
His gaze softened and he spoke in a murmer, "Sorry for raising my voice." Tears were threatening to fall down his face, something he unfortunately looked like he was used to. I held his hands in mine, "Don't apologise. You're allowed to be upset, hell it would be abit odd if you weren't. No matter what ears you have, human or otherwise, or if you have a tail or not, you're always going to be my Garroth. This hasn't changed a thing."
His face tensed as tears cascaded down his cheecks, "You're too sweet to me... but no matter what you say, i know you don't understand. Not as well as you think you do. I'm never going to be the same Garroth i was because nobody will see me the same way. But i cannot handle the looks of pity i get..."
I kissed the backs of his hands, rubbing my thumbs soothingly against them, trying to add some sort of comfort that wasn't too invasive or overwhelming. The last thing i wanted was to drive him away. "Garroth, i understand more than you think i do."
He was still refusing to look at me, closing his eyes as he tried to prevent more tears from spilling. I allowed my ears and tail so show, I don't do it often so it felt foreign and hinestly, it was uncomfortable and way too vulnerable for my liking. But i knew it might help Garroth, and i was willing to take the chance.
"Look at me Garroth."
He didn't reply and instead jjst kept his eyes closed, "I said look at me." I tried to command, although it came out quietly and softly as I didn't want to add fuel to Garroth's fire.
He opened his eyes and — "what is this?"
"I.. am a werewolf. Well, a wolf. I was born one."
He was in a state of shock, "I didn't know.." I laughed uncomfortablely, "Yeah.. nobody does. I was ashamed, i got bullied by humans as a kid so much that my fear was domineering and I never really showed them. Having human parents adopt me didn't help either and they didn't understand me."
Garroth looked at me with a look that finally meant he understood, "You understand me because...you went through the lonliness and shame too." I nodded, "Garroth, I care so much about yoy to the point I can't sleep sometimes because of worry or out of happiness knowing I'll see you the next day or even just staying up thinking about how cute your stupid goofy smile is but—"
He gasped and I had thought i said too much and overstepped a boundary, "You think my smile is stupid and goofy?" He inquired dramatically and for the first time in a while, I laughed wholeheartedly, "Shut up, you know thats not what i meant!" "Well thats what you said!"
I smiled at his as our bickering dulled, "But seriously. I like you Garroth, more than a friend should, and you had me worrying so much but in reality, you're always going to be my Garroth to me, ears and a tail aren't gonna change that. Although they are devilishly cute."
He blushed and I removed my hands from his and wiped the tears off of his face. I kissed his cheek as he stuttered in response and merely kissed mine back. We didn't speak after, because words were not needed, the only thing were needed in that moment was eachother.
Hi! I would like to request for Aphmau’s PDH but I was wondering if there are request rules or anything? Just wondering what is required/ how to word my request :)).
Hello.
(Please don't leave me.)
I'm so sorry for not seeing your ask earlier.
But there are some general things.
I will not do the following:
Smut (die to the fact that the characters in Phoenix drop high aren't mature and gully developed adults)
Shipping between characters (because this is an xreader blog)
Things I will write:
Oneshots (I'm not very good with angst, but I'll try my best!!)
Headcannons (What they're like in a relationship, ect.)
And any other type!
I'll also write throuples (character x reader x character since YOU have TWO HANDS).
And as for wording here's an example:
I'd like a headcannon of how garroth and reader got together.
So basically, the most important things are=
one: what you want me to write headcannon, oneshot, or multiple with different characters
Two: The character('s). to say what character (or characters) you want the headcannon/oneshot to be about!
Three: What the headcannon/oneshoot is supposed to be about, for example: where did they first meet? What habits do they have in a relationship with you abd other.
Four: Make sure to specify the genre, like is it angst to comfort or fluffy or just angsty!!
That all.
Have a great Day!!!
Top ten mystreet characters that could beat me to a pulp just by looking at me in disgust.
10. Michi
Miss girl kinda hot to me ngl. She could tell me I’m stupid and I’d frown and feel a little bad but probably get over it after a while.
9. Vylad
I find him pretty chill and he probably wouldn’t say anything to me, but if he called me dumb, or anything like that, I’d be thinking about it for the rest of the day and racking my brain figuring out if it’s true.
8. Garroth
He’s too sweet to say anything bad to me, but I know 100% his PDH self would make me shed a few tears by berating me on how I should be better as a person.
7. Lucinda
She’s literally so hot and I had (still sorta have) a huge crush on her when I was 12. I looked up to her ngl, so hearing her look at me in disgust would make me sad for like 2 days or less- maybe even cry a bit.
6. Kawaii Chan
She’s also really sweet and kind but would definitely berate me. If I were to steal something she baked, would 100% do that btw, she’d call me selfish or greedy and I’d cry myself to sleep and maybe think about it for a week.
5. Laurence
Mans was my first crush, he was literally so hot to me when I was a kid. His PDH and MCD self would make me simp so hard and I wrote like 10 cringe fanfics about him on an old wattpad account that I sadly lost. If he said anything insulting or bad to me I’d cry for days.
4. Ein
I am ashamed to say that I was 100% an Ein simp even after Emerald Secret. :( He was just that mysterious edgy boi that I really liked for some disturbing reason that I regret realizing when I was 13 or 14. He could and would definitely call me an absolute imbecile and a waste of a perfectly good soul that could’ve existed in my place, and I would sob every night for a week.
3. Zane
I always wished I could be his friend because he lowkey seemed cool. I also had a huge crush on him and would sometimes read those x reader fanfics of him. I wanted to give him a big hug during that one arc where he was really jealous of Aaron. He could tell me to never speak to him ever again and I’d absolutely break down.
2. Derek
Reminds me of my dad, that’s all I’ll say. He could simply look at me in disgust or yell at me and I’d absolutely break down.
1. Aaron
I always wished he could be my dad. He seemed so respectful and comforting to me and I would always daydream that he was my friend or dad or even partner ahshhs. If he lectured me on my behaviour or told me I needed to be better or just looked at me like I did something really bad I’d shut down for a week straight, maybe even two.
Okay now time for me to go back to sleep bye :)
“this is so exciting!” teony grins, clapping her hands from where she stood next to you and katelyn. “i care more about academics than athletics, but i honestly love the sports festival! it’s so much fun!”
you hum happily in agreement, eyes drifting around at the school’s outdoor scenery. honestly, it's insane how beautiful of a spot it was placed in, with phoenix drop’s mountain range and tall forest trees spanning right from the school’s backyard. the whole student body is packed in the area from the soccer field all the way over to the baseball field, everyone in their athletic uniforms and the colorful wristbands that indicated which class they were in.
glancing behind you to check on aph and nana as the little freshman chat away, you catch a glimpse of ivy’s minions and aaron, who is a short way away, talking by the stairs. the tall junior seemed like trouble just from his looks alone—and you were pretty opposed to him already just from aphmau’s complaints of the boy all year—but his seeming compliance with lily’s flirtatious giggling set your opinion in stone.
your attention shifts back to your friends next to you, a sense of comfort relaxing the tenseness that had begun to build just from the glimpse of those people. after talking about everything with aphmau, you both had decided to come clean to all of your friends about the issues you’d had since day one with both ivy and gene.
you’d almost felt silly for hesitating so long to tell them, especially with how defensive and fired up they had gotten. lucinda’s reaction was definitely the funniest, the redhead immediately offering to slip a potion that would make someone throw up slugs into all of their lunches. you’d denied the offer through your laughter, as tempting as it was, and you have to stop yourself from giggling again at the thought of gene or ivy pale in the face and spitting out snail slime.
katelyn snorts, pausing in her warm-up of one-legged squats—an impressive feat you had unashamedly been staring at her do for the past five minutes—to look over to the academia queen herself.
“of course it’s fun!” she energetically hops in place with a fiery and determined look on her face. “i’m gonna own the juniors in volleyball this year.”
teony raises an eyebrow and tosses her hair over her shoulder as she looks at you, lips pursed in amusement. “our class lost to that class when they were sophomores last year.”
you nod in understanding, giggling when katelyn pumps her fist angrily into the air.
“and the only reason we lost to them was because i had won all the events prior,” she defends. “i was completely exhausted from the heat.”
teony’s hands are on her hips, eyebrows raised, and expression like a scolding mother. “so then i hope you learned your lesson for this year, right?”
she scoffs. “oh, i definitely have!”
“good, i’m glad. now you know—”
“i’ve been training all year to carry the team completely on my back.”
teony groans, leaning against you as she rolls her eyes. “kate, sweetie, that is not the lesson! it’s teamwork.”
“uh-huh, yeah that too, whatever,” katelyn responds, and from her distracted expression you’re not even sure she truly heard what had been said. instead, she grabs onto one of your arms and one of teony’s, dragging you both off into the track field. “now let’s go crush some classes!”
“wh-hold on!” teony laughs, turning back to wave at aphmau and nana as they stare at the three of you like abandoned puppies—or in nana’s place, a kitten. “good luck my darlings!”
“i’ll catch you both later! good luck!” you call after the two, sparing a wave as katelyn bulldozes her way through the grass.
she at least also spares one last look over her shoulder, though instead of a shout of encouragement, it’s a competitive laugh and grin. “pray you two don’t have us as an opponent this year. i won't go easy just cause we’re friends!”
teony sighs as the three of you make it closer to your classmates, lolling her head over to give kate an unimpressed stare. “i get your competitive and all, but i don’t think intimidating those two cuties was necessary.”
grabbing a stray volleyball from the ground, she scoffs and rolls her eyes, walking a ways from you both and tossing it up to start preparing. “oh, whatever. they know it’s tough love.”
teony looks to you with a disbelieved shake of her head, giggling at the blue haired girl’s antics.
“you know, you—woah!” she stumbles back, barely receiving the ball that kate had spiked down at her and sending it straight past her legs.
there’s a thunk of ball meeting shoulder and a familiar yelp of pain, before you see travis crumpling down to the grass and dante sprinting off while cackling.
“what the—?! why were you sitting right behind me, dude?!” katelyn questions, seeming more bewildered than anything.
teony’s eyes drift from the scene ahead to you from the corner of her eye.
“were they…?”
“…i think so…”
“uh, sorry!” travis quickly stutters, stumbling up to his feet and waving his hands with an awkward braced smile. “i was just—dante, don’t leave me!" his voice comically cracks at the end as he sprints after his friend, the two looking like clowns as they run away.
“uh, what’s going on here?” a smooth voice breaks your stunned silence.
“oh, hey garroth. i don’t know, actually.”
the baseball captain is standing right next to you, blinking in confusion between the two boys as they run away and the three of you. he breaks out in an amused little grin at your deadpanned words, scratching the side of his head.
“well, okay then. are you excited to compete?”
you shrug with a nod, looking up at the boy. “sure! gets us out of class, so that’s enough for me. are you?”
“yeah… but i still can’t believe they haven’t set up a baseball portion for this competition.” he sighs. “like, we have kickball, but no baseball? not cool.”
you can’t help but giggle at the dejected look on his face, his love for the sport honestly endearing.
“well, baseball is a hard sport for normies like us to play, you know? gotta leave it up to the professionals like you,” you muse, nudging his side with your elbow.
a cheeky grin forms on his face, and you swear you see the tips of his ears turn a bit red in color. he opens his mouth to reply to your compliment before another loud thud–this time off in the distance–catches both of your attention. a soccer ball is rolling away from aaron, while aph seems to be telling him off with clenched fists.
“hm?” garroth frowns, and you’re already walking over to the scene.
he catches up just a second after, tilting his head in concern as you both speed-walk over to the girl. you make it to nana first, raising an eyebrow in confusion to the pink-haired meif’wa who stood awkwardly distant from the two. she shrugs at the both of you with a pout on her face before you can even ask, golden irises darting at the taller boy as he seems to mockingly laugh at aphmau while walking away.
garroth shrugs at you before walking forward first, while aph continues to huff with clenched fists and muttering under her breath.
“how dare he just… ugh!”
“aphmau, are you okay?” the blonde asks in concern, and the girl whips herself around, eyes a bit wide in surprise.
“oh, it’s you two, hey,” she says, clearing her throat and fixing her hair with a flustered expression. “um, i’m fine, it’s just…”
“you should stay away from that guy,” garroth says suddenly. “i’ve heard he’s nothing but trouble.”
your eyes stay narrowly trained on the delinquent in question, as he walks through the field towards the concession stand with his hands shoved in his pockets.
“oh trust me, you don’t need to tell me that twice.” aphmau crosses her arms with a scoff. “he’s in my werewolf class with me, and he’s nothing but a huge jerk.”
garroth nods with an understanding hum, before his eyebrows snot up on his forehead. “wait, you’re a werewolf?!”
aphmau and you glance over to him, before bursting out in giggles.
“oh! no, i’m not! i thought i told you what happened, garroth.”
“huh, laurance reacted just about the same, now that i remember,” you recall, covering your mouth as you recover from the small laughing fit.
garroth sighs, his deep voice bordering on a whiny tone. “how come you guys always tell laurance everything but never me?”
aphmau’s eyebrows raise, and she quickly waves her hands. “it’s not that i didn’t want to tell you! it just never came up!”
“yeah, garroth,” you coo, leaning over to wrap an arm around his side and pat him soothingly on the back. “laurance just knows more 'cause he yaps more and asks more questions.”
garroth snorts.
“…don’t tell him i said that.”
“oh, i definitely will.”
aphmau chuckles drily. “so to make a long story short, garroth, my registration was all messed up and i couldn’t change out of the werewolf class even though i didn’t sign up for it and i’m not a werewolf. and i’ve been stuck with sitting next to that aaron jerk all semester.”
he hums, eyebrows furrowed. “oh, i see. well i’m sorry you have to deal with tha—”
“garrith, there you are!” a high-pitched, nasally voice pierces right into your ear from behind you, making you flinch away from the friendly side hug you still had the blonde in.
aphmau stares at you with a tense half smile, eyes darting behind you before you turn yourself. carmine hair bounces against ivy’s shoulders as she tilts her head, giving an—in your opinion—eerily forced smile up at garroth.
oh, nah. it is 9:30 in the morning.
garroth offers a smile in return, taking a small step back from how close she had bounded up to him. “oh, ivy! it’s good to see you.”
so laurance clearly has not told him yet.
ivy tilts her head in seemingly innocent wonder. “what’re you doing talking to this freshman?”
and apparently you’re not here. cool.
garroth turns to the two of us, the unaware “prince” gesturing to the girl as she burns holes into our figures with her bright eyes. “have you two met ivy? she’s a friend of mine.”
she quickly latches onto his words, quickly adding on before you or aphmau can open your mouths. “yes, i’ve been his friend since we were freshmen.”
you resist the urge to side-eye aphmau, instead keeping your composure as she speaks up first.
“oh, i see… so you've been friends for a long time, then.”
“yes, we have,” she preens, her smile sharp as she looks between you two with a satisfied twinkle in her eyes.
garroth nods politely. “yeah, ivy’s really sweet.” he looks over to her while gesturing to you. “i’ve been friends with these two since we were little kids.”
it takes everything in you to not smile in your own satisfaction when her eyes just about bulge out of her head for a split second, her smile tensing. “oh, really…! that’s so… cute!”
garroth chuckles. “isn’t it?”
“yeah, isn’t it?” you can’t help but chime in, and ivy’s eyes flock to you with a flare of barely veiled annoyance.
“it sure… is…” she says through gritted teeth.
man, she’s losing it. you’d almost feel second hand embarrassment for her if you weren’t reeling in the satisfaction of it.
“so! i meant to ask,” aphmau chirps, doing a very good job of ignoring her history with ivy’s wrath. “where’s laurance at?”
“he’s already playing a soccer match. his team went first against… the junior class, i think…”
she blows her bangs away from her face. “oh, so the competition has already started, huh?”
“speaking of which, garrith, we should go warm up! our team is next!” she glances over at you, eyes darting down your figure and back up to your face. “you’re not on our team… are you?”
“…nope.”
“ah, unfortunate. she’s pretty good at sports,” garroth says, throwing a small smile your way.
“thanks, garroth. i’m sure you guys will do great.”
“okay, come on garrith!”
garroth’s smile falters as he awkwardly looks over to her. “oh, right. but, uh… ivy? it’s pronounced gar-roth.”
“i know, garrith, but we really should go!” she insists, grabbing onto his wrist and tugging him along with her.
he keeps his smile though it falters into an uncomfortable and slightly forced one. letting her guide him along, he looks back at you two with a wave.
“see you both later. good luck.”
“yep! you too!” aphmau grins, and you wave back with a smile yourself.
the two walk off toward the sophomore class’s flag football group.
you look at aphmau.
she looks at you.
“...a mess.”
“for real.” aphmau agrees, sighing and rolling her eyes.
“well, i’m gonna go to the restroom. you up to play?”
“yep, i’m on the team for soccer. what about you?”
“ooh, i bet you’ll crush it. kate’s having me play for the volleyball team. good luck!”
aphmau smiles, waving excitedly. “you too!”
thankfully the school has some restrooms outside, making your walk much shorter. by instinct you walk down to the furthest stall, clicking the door shut. before you could even turn around the door swings open again, ivy’s shrill voice bouncing off the concrete and tiled room.
“who the fuck do those two think they are?!” she snips, her tennis shoes clicking against the floor as she pushes on each stall door to check inside.
“they think they’re hot shit,” a more mellowed voice says. was that lily? or the alex girl that rarely talked…?
ivy’s feet stop just before your stall, spinning around to pace over to the sinks. “i thought i saw her come in here… whatever. i came in here to fix my hair anyways. ugh. i thought i told them to stay away from him! those… whores!”
you suppress the urge to scoff.
“well… you did tell them, and then she gave you a black eye.”
ivy makes a seething noise. “that bitch! she didn’t even show anything! i know i broke her nose!”
“whatever. if gene still has those pictures like he says he does then it doesn’t matter. we can ruin their reputation within a day.”
shit.
this seems to calm her rage. just slightly.
“yeah, that’ll get them away from him. plus if we circulate the other rumors around like we talked about then garrith won’t even want to be near them.”
“oh, yeah. that reminds me… i heard that those two were hanging out with garroth at the fall festival a couple of weekends ago.”
“what?! from who?!”
“gene.”
“there's no way! that's just gene trying to get under my skin! i thought he was on our side!”
“whatever. we just need him to be enough on our side to get those pictures out. and even if he doesn’t, we can still spread rumors.”
“yeah! yeah… i’m sure they sleep around anyways. with how they beg for garrith and that laurance’s attention it’s pretty obvious they want that kind of attention. they’re so pathetic, especially aphmau. that little cunt is just begging for one of them to—”
hell no.
your hand races forward to click open the lock, and you throw open the stall door against the wall. it clangs before creaking and wobbling in the now pin-dropping silence of the bathroom as you slowly walk out of the cubicle. the three girls are standing there, looking a bit shocked and surprised at your appearance.
well, ivy and lily, at least. alex looks as blank-faced as usual.
without a word you walk to the door, eyes glued to ivy’s while you resist the urge to punch out her other eye. cracking open the door you pause, looking back to the girl once again and taking in a rageful breath.
“you better fucking hope i don’t catch you alone, ivy.”
you turn out of the bathroom and slam the door shut, teeth clacking together and fists clenched as you walk towards the temporary volleyball court set up near the soccer field.
damn. you forgot you had to pee.
“woah, you look pissed.”
travis appears by your side, looking genuinely concerned with raised brows and curious eyes.
“kinda hot.” dante appears on your other side, biting his lip and waggling his brows.
the brace-faced boy sends a scorning glare to his friend. “dude, not her!”
“chill! i’m just messing around… sort of. besides, gene’s mentioned her a few times, so i know she’s cool. can’t blame me for shooting my shot.”
you sigh and shake your head, some of the tension leaving your shoulders as you fall victim to the goofy antics of the dorks next to you.
“gene’s mentioned me, huh?” you ask, glancing at dante. “i forgot he’s your brother.”
you press your lips together. that’s right, maria. guess she still thinks you’re “friends” with gene.
he grins. “yeah, he’s pretty cool. he talks about you to my mom sometimes. you both hang out often?”
your eyes dart to travis, who is looking at you nervously.
“…we haven’t lately.”
“oh, that’s too bad, i guess,” dante hums.
“you’re sure you’re not mad? it’s not at me from earlier, right?!” travis worries, cutting off the topic of gene to your relief.
“huh? no, why would i be?”
he deflates in relief. “uh, nothing! never mind, never mind.”
“…alright. well, what sport are you two heading to?” you ask, rolling your shoulders back.
“well… we actually are the refs for the volleyball match.”
you raise an eyebrow. “both of you are? how’d you manage to get out of having to compete?”
“we both signed up as volunteers, just like some kids are doing the concessions,” dante says rather smugly, lifting up a candy bar and waving it in the air.
“great… you two wouldn’t have any ulterior motives here, would you?” you narrow your eyes, looking over to travis. “perhaps with a certain captain in mind?”
“what?” travis stutters. “you’re the second one to accuse me of that! i’d never purposefully screw up the scorecard to get her to yell at me!”
“…uh-huh…”
the principal’s voice cuts through the stadium speakers. “our 3rd round of events today is soccer and volleyball! for soccer, we’ll have the freshmen versus our juniors, and for volleyball, we have sophomores versus seniors! good luck out there!”
you spin on your heels, walking backward onto the sand court and motioning towards the two boys with your fingers in an 'i’m watching you' motion. katelyn—to no one's surprise—is already there and fired up, hyping up teony to do her best as she stretches her arms. her head whips to you when she catches your figure from the corner of her eye, rushing forward to grab you.
“dude, where were you? come on, the game’s gonna start. you’re the outside hitter, okay?” she says, and you simply nod along as your previous anger seems to bubble up and surface again.
this should be a good way to release some steam.
teony gives you a strange look before getting in position at the back of the court. you must not have been hiding your expression as well as you thought you were.
the match went pretty well, and once katelyn realized you were putting your full force into your spikes she consistently set the ball towards you, leaving your dominant arm sore and chest heaving.
“hey! good job!” laurance calls from the sidelines, grinning brightly. his face was sheened with a layer of sweat, strands of his caramel hair stuck to his cheeks and forehead.
garroth stands next to him, looking out of breath like he had just sprinted across the campus field. he grins, holding up two big thumbs up at your team.
“um, that wasn’t game point,” travis pipes up, making all of you turn your heads to the boy.
immediately he looks nervous, tapping his fingers together and waving the flimsy score board in his hand. oh, travis. that’s one way to get your crush’s attention… that’s for sure.
“what?! there’s no way! let me see that!”
deciding to stay out of…whatever was going to go down there, you jog over to the boys with a smile.
“hey! how’d you guys do?”
“decent. i’m not too into football, and my teammates didn’t seem as into the game, either.” garroth shrugs.
“not too bad for me, either. you know i love soccer, so it was just like a fun practice for me.” laurance says, glancing over to the field. “the game aphmau was playing just ended, she did pretty good too—especially against that aaron guy. it was kinda funny seeing her zip around him.”
you chuckle at the thought. “yeah, i bet.”
“what a close call for that soccer game! but the winner of the soccer match is the freshman class! the mvps of this match are aaron from the junior class and aphmau from the freshman class! man, i can't wait to see what else goes on in this tournament today! it is such a heated rivalry!”
you look over to the field, watching as little aph herself shoots a sassy look to aaron and walks off with attitude in her steps.
“there she goes!” garroth muses.
“baby’s first medal?” laurance adds, and you whip your head to him with a wide smile.
“baby’s first medal!”
“baby?” garroth questions, looking lost as ever as he looks between you two.
katelyn’s shout and a loud thud meets your ears.
“this judge is bogus! he’s clearly blind!”
“katelyn! you can’t just hit people with volleyballs when you’re upset! i’m pretty sure you’ve hit travis alone on three different occasions!”
“i don’t care, this is stupid!”
travis groans from the ground, and teony sighs as she helps him to his feet. “…i’ll take you to the nurse. kate, go… walk it off while they figure it out.”
“…that’s katelyn for you,” garroth murmurs as she stomps over to you three. “you alright?”
“yeah.” she puffs out her lips in annoyance. “i kinda feel bad for blowing up on him, but it’s like he was keeping the wrong score on purpose!”
“well, it’ll be fine. you did really good regardless, kate!” you say, very carefully choosing not to say a word about travis’s intentions.
“yeah, both of you did,” laurance chimes, eyebrows raised with an impressed stare. “i just kinda was able to catch the end of the game, but you didn't look like you were holding back on those spikes at all.”
katelyn nods, crossing her arms.
“yeah, i’m for sure forcing her to join the team next year. she’s good.” she glances over to you. “but you did seem a little off. you good?”
shrugging, you awkwardly cross your arms. “uh… about that…”
“did something happen?” garroth frowns.
“i had a run-in with ivy in the bathrooms.” you admit. “she was saying really nasty stuff about me and aph… and i think she’s planning on spreading some rumors around about us.”
“…what? are you sure?” his frown deepens. “ivy wouldn’t do that, would she?”
kate and laurance look over at him with blank stares.
“did you not tell him, laurance?” katelyn scoffs.
“tell me what?” garroth asks impatiently.
“not yet… ugh…” the brunet groans, grabbing onto garroth’s arm and beginning to drag him away. “let’s talk, man.”
“okay?” he stumbles along, the lost look in his eyes still highly apparent.
“great, now i’m even more mad!” kate seethes. “where is she?!”
“woah, woah!” you wave your hands before steadying them on her shoulders. “just chill for a second. i already threatened her today, let’s not get into any trouble.”
she sighs. “fine. but if i catch her by herself it’s not gonna be pretty.”
“that’s what i said.”
“oh!” she suddenly yanks your arm, pulling you along like a woman on a mission towards the track. “there’s lucinda! we’re telling her right now!”
“are you serious?” lucinda scoffs, legs crossed as you all sit at the top of the bleachers. “look, i know you rejected the potion in the food idea, but an overdose on laxatives is an option, too.”
you rub your eyes, glancing down to the track where aphmau was warming up for her race. “as tempting as it is, i want to let her destroy herself. she thinks because she’s more popular than we are that everyone will have to believe her. but as long as you guys and the rest of our friends know the truth, her rumors won’t mean anything and she’ll destroy her own reputation.”
“leaving it up to karma, huh? that’s fair.” lucinda sighs, leaning back on her arms. “i guess. still wanna make her shit her pants, but to each their own.”
“lucy!” you laugh, leaning into her shoulder.
“no, no, she has a good point,” katelyn says, before leaning forward. “oh, there’s prince charming.”
you glance down, garroth’s golden curls coming into view as he hops his way up the bleachers stairs to your direction. his eyebrows are pulled together as he keeps his eyes trained on the metal steps.
kate stands with a sigh, pulling lucinda up with her. “come on. i think they need to talk alone for a second. plus, i want some chips from the concessions before my next game.”
“fine, i could go for a snack, too.” the redhead sighs, waving her fingers at you and squeezing your hands. “bye, my love!”
you wave the two girls off, before shooting over and patting the seat next to you for garroth to sit. he slinks down into the spot, sighing and leaning forward on his elbows while staring out at the track.
“hi.”
“hey.”
he straightens up with a deep breath, turning to you with a troubled expression. “i didn’t mean to sound like i didn’t believe you earlier, i was just surprised.”
you smile at the genuine guilt in his eyes. sweet garroth.
“i know. sorry i didn’t tell you about everything sooner.”
“it’s… okay. laurance explained it all.” he frowns. “i just feel bad.”
you intake a breath to reply, but he cuts you off, raising his hands up.
“not because i think it’s my fault. trust me, laurance lectured my ear off about that.” he leans back, sighing. “just… i feel like i could’ve, like, protected you a bit from all of that if i had known.”
“garroth…”
“promise you’ll tell me if you’re having trouble from now on?” he grabs onto your wrist, looking pleadingly into your eyes with his own. “please promise me. you’re one of my best friends.”
“i promise.”
“good. i promise i’ll tell you everything, too.” he leans forward, pulling you into a hug. “i know we don’t remember much from our childhood, but we’ve been friends for a long time, right? i promise i care way more about you than whatever anyone else at this school has to say about you.”
“…thank you,” you whisper. something about his genuine care has you blinking back the urge to cry, gulping from the surge of emotions that gathered in the base of your throat.
you both pull back from the hug, and garroth smiles that stupidly dazzling smile. “of course.”
the track’s starter gun startles you from the heartfelt moment, making you both jump in place as you look down at the relay race below.
“wait… is aphmau going against aaron at the end? who the heck thought that was a good idea?” garroth blinks, staring at the two in bewilderment. “the guy’s over a foot taller than her!”
you hum in equal confusion, slowly standing and making your way to the stairs. “yeah, that is weird… c’mon. let’s get closer.”
the teams are already on their third hand off by the time you’re both at the bottom of the bleachers, the two runners making their way to aphmau and aaron before handing off the batons. instead of the taller boy completely leaning aph in the dust, he surprisingly keeps her pace before seeing to a stop in the middle of the track.
“huh?” garroth murmurs, and it seems aphmau carries the same sentiment as she slows, turning to aaron with a baffled look of her own.
they’re too far from you to hear what they were saying, but based on his smug look and her peeved expression, his act of stopping seemed more like a taunt than an act of sportsmanship.
aphmau sends a sassy remark to aaron and that seems to stop their strange standstill, as the six-foot-something junior takes off sprinting towards the finish line. she turns, amber eyes wide and mouth agape in shock as she stands in place and watches as he passes the finish line in seconds.
“i can’t believe you fell for that,” he snickers, seeming to deeply relish the look on her face before turning and waltzing away with a smug look on his face.
aphmau’s face contorts from one of bafflement to one of absolute infuriation, and she takes a few steps forward like she was about to go try and tackle the guy herself.
“wh—you! i’m gonna—!” she fumes, unable to even get a sentence out in her frustration.
“woah, aphmau! stop, it’s over!” garroth calls out, trying to calm her as he waves his hands while you both jog over to her.
“he tricked me!” she insists, nose wrinkled like she’d swallowed something bitter.
“...i'm not sure what happened there, but you both ran a good match.” he rubs the back of his neck, chuckling. “well, until the end, that is.”
aphmau deflates, tensely laughing away the rest of her frustration. “yeah… thanks garroth.”
he nods proudly, crossing his arms. “you’re welcome.”
the rest of the festival flies by, with thankfully not many more appearances from ivy’s group or even sightings of the shadow knights. after freshening up in the locker room, you’d waited thirty minutes on the bench, occasionally sending aph a few texts.
you: are you coming to the locker room before walking home?
delivered, 3:42
you: hello?
delivered, 3:55
you: are you okay??
delivered, 4:00
when ten more minutes had passed with no response, you’d felt the anxiety you’d been suppressing come in full force. with hands jittering and head a bit dizzy, you pushed through the girls locker room doors, beginning your search of the now empty school.
from each of the classrooms you knew she had classes in, to all of the bathrooms, and even the cafeteria, she wasn’t anywhere in any rooms of the school you searched. you even ran back outside, searching the outdoor bathrooms—and even briefly looking in the boy’s restroom in your desperation—to no avail.
calm down. you’re on campus, there’s no way something awful happened to her on campus.
hands shaking, you pull your phone out again, attempting to call her phone one last time. staring at a spot in the grass, you listen to the dial of the phone ringing while a faint buzzing in your ears blocked out any other ambient noise.
“your call has been forwarded to an automatic voice message system. at the tone, please recor—”
ripping the phone away from your face, you hang up and catch your breath that you didn’t realize you were holding.
it’s okay. it’s okay. she probably walked home and her phone died or something. you can walk to her house and check with sylvanna, and if she isn’t there… then you can panic.
quickly you find yourself super walking down the sidewalk to your house, eyes drifting to each black vehicle that passed on the road and steps stuttering anytime one of them seemed to slow.
you hate this feeling. the one you felt anytime you went anywhere back in your old town. the weak shakiness of prey stuck in a hunter's trap desperately trying to escape it but unable to find the strength, and unknowing of when the hunter was going to come find you. it was a sick, nearly paralyzing rush through your nervous system, crowding your head and making you both aware of everything and too dizzy to focus on one thing.
did they find you again?
were you risking your friends’ lives by being around them?
did they get aph?
did you kill her when you chose to be her friend?
“wait for me!”
you almost faint from how quickly you turn around, eyes wide as you focus in on aphmau clumsily running after you—face red and hair frazzled.
“o-m-g, that was so embarrassing!” she heaves, stopping in front of you. “sorry i didn’t respond to your text! you won’t believe what just happened to—oh—!”
you reach forward, pulling aphmau into a tight hug. suddenly you hear the birdsong in the trees again. the rushing of cars on the street next to you. your blood is suddenly swirling in your head.
“woah… are you okay? you’re shaking, like, really bad…”
a second passes before you pull away, taking in a gulp of air. “yeah, i’m fine.”
“and you’re really pale,” aphmau says, thin eyebrows pinched together before she gasps. “oh, did i worry you? i’m so, so sorry! i can explain what happened on the way, okay?”
her eyes are full of a worry you hadn’t quite seen before. did you look that upset?
“okay, yeah. i’m fine. i’m fine.” you reassure, wiping away the cold sweat from the back of your neck with a grimace.
aphmau hums, the noise shaky and unsure, before reaching out to take your free hand. “okay. maybe you can come have dinner with me and my mom tonight! i think she said she was going to make empanadas tonight. you know what those are, right?”
“yeah…”
“great! well, my mom’s empanadas are the best, so you can try them! oh yeah, i was gonna tell you what happened, right? so…”
you don’t mean to, but your focus drifts from aphmau’s actual words to just the sound of her voice, eyes drifting to the sidewalk ahead. the feeling of her smaller hand holding yours was somehow comforting despite how it gently and barely seemed to even squeeze yours.
you still feel high-strung, but as the initial adrenaline finally leaves your body you feel a wave of exhaustion and… a bit of embarrassment. it seems a bit dramatic, what you just did. after all, aph is perfectly fine right here. you were acting like an overly anxious parent or older sister, and the two of you aren’t even related to each other.
“…and she shoved me in the locker! can you believe that? what kind of girl fake cries in the boys' locker room and then traps another girl in there?! i thought she was really in trouble!”
“wait, what?” you blink, whipping your head over to her as you process her words. “who did?”
“ivy! she shoved me in the locker! and i didn’t have my phone 'cause it was still in my bag, so i just had to wait there until—guess who?!—aaron let me out! she stuck me in aaron lycan’s locker!”
a wave of anger resurfaces, sending black spots into your vision. once again, another problem caused by that insufferable prick.
“i’m gonna fucking kill her.”
“what!” aphmau laughs, squeezing your hand. “woah, your face is scaring me! calm down!”
she swerves you off the sidewalk and into her yard, pulling you closer to her front door. “let’s think about empanadas instead! mhm, mhm! and pepsi… and ice cream… and we can watch a movie or episode of something before we have a very calm and peaceful rest for school tomorrow.”
“…okay.” you sigh, pulling in a tense breath. “okay. that sounds nice… let’s do it.”
“yay!”
“i can’t believe your parents casually own riverfront property in the mountains. i know we’re here already, but i still can’t get over it.”
“have you seen our house?” zane deadpans sarcastically, rolling his eyes and looking back at aphmau. he’d been hunched over on that log the whole morning, squinting down at the nintendo he’d brought with him.
“you shouldn’t brag,” vylad murmurs from where he knelt down by the ice chest, right by garroth who was cooking everyone lunch on the grill.
“whatever. i don’t know why either of you or mom wanted me to go on this stupid trip.”
“because you need to get out more. the sun is healthy for you, you know.”
you turn your head from the squabbling brothers, rubbing them out as you look around at the scenery. aphmau’s shock wasn’t lost on you, either. the summer sun wasn’t too hot thanks to the northern region this property sat on, yet the rays that shone through the tree leaves and hit your face still kissed your skin with warmth. the distant noise of the river flowing and birds chirping was the only thing heard aside from your friends’ chatter. tall, beautiful trees surrounded the area, closing in the clearing this camping—or more glamping setup was in.
a tall watchtower loomed up on the small hill above you, and below it laid a bunker you hadn’t yet explored. you and the group are currently gathered around the fire pit, the small log cabin everyone was bunking in just off to the side. honestly, as shocked you were to be in a place this beautiful, you’re more shocked everyone’s parents were okay with you guys coming here alone. a bunch of teenagers alone, with no adult supervision? you guess due to your parents’ past friendship (save for laurance), they trusted each other’s kids to be good and not stir up too much trouble. but still.
it makes you wonder. when everyone else in this group grows older, will you all trust each other the same as your parents do? as you all do now? would your kids be friends? would you even keep your friends for that long?
“you look lost in thought,” aphmau murmurs from beside you.
katelyn is next to her, turning her attention to you as she adjusts her blue flannel that matches aphmau’s purple and your own favorite color. the incoming sophomore had insisted you three matched, saying flannel shirts “so matched the camping vibe” and that the girls of the group matching would be “super duper cute”.
“just… thinking.”
“about what?” katelyn prods.
if you’d tolerate my friendship for much longer.
“the future.”
“ooh, what about it?”
“just what we become. if we’ll all be together by then.”
“hopefully not,” zane grumbles under his breath, earning a sharp glare from not only his brothers but also laurance who’d been quietly observing the conversation.
“it would be so cool if we all lived in the same neighborhood one day!” aphmau suddenly says, hands clasped together as she completely ignores zane’s remark. “on the same street!”
“do you know how hard that would be to find a bunch of houses for sale together like that? you’d have to know, like, a really important realtor.” katelyn says, before her own words clip short at the end as she looks over to the ro’meave brothers, eyebrow raised. “i guess it’s not completely impossible… perhaps…”
“you’d have to really do something big to convince our dad to do that.” vylad muses. “unless something super crazy happened and we all had to live together for like… our safety or something.”
“that’s a weird way to put it.” laurance snorts.
“i’m just saying! it would be a huge loss money-wise for him.”
“he’s right,” zane mutters. “thankfully something like that won’t be necessary, so i won’t have to live by you freaks.”
aphmau gawks, putting her hands on yours and katelyn’s heads. “excuse me? i bet the three of us would be amazing roommates. we’d be the best neighbors!”
“ehhh…” katelyn starts.
“ehh?! what do you mean eeeehhhh? you wouldn’t want to room with me?”
laurance turns to you, leaning in to whisper in your ear, “did one eye just call us freaks? has he seen his haircut?”
“stop,” you snort, giving a scorning slap to his hand. “don’t be rude.”
“hey! he’s garroth’s little brother, so he's my little brother. i get to make fun of him like one,” he defends, eyeing the younger boy with mischief in his eyes. “besides, i’ve been sent here on this earth to humble both him and garroth. they desperately need it.”
you roll your eyes, but you can’t help the smile inching onto your face. it was kind of fun to tease them. “but not vylad, huh?”
“nah, look at him.” he gestures towards the youngest, the boy smiling absentmindedly while listening to aph, kate, and zane squabble. “you really can’t make fun of that. bro’s at peace.”
“that’s… so true. he’s really well put together, actually.”
your eyes drift to garroth, who’s setting the freshly cooked food down on the trays
“damn, no plates,” he sighs under his breath, looking around. “how did we forget that?”
vylad frowns, looking at his older brother. “i thought there were some in the cabin…? do we need to run to the store?”
the blond shakes his head, setting the freshly grilled meat onto the metal tray. “no, no. there should be some in the bunker’s storage. i’ll go look.”
you jump to your feet at the mention of the bunker, dusting the stray bark and dirt that stuck to your legs. “i’ll help. i wanted to see what it looked like, anyways.”
garroth shrugs with a smile, slowing his long stride for you to catch up as he trudges up the hill. “it’s not really anything special. just some dusty boxes and stuff down there.”
“aw, man. no secret lab?”
“i’m afraid not. sorry to disappoint.” he grins, stepping forward to open the hatch.
a shiver runs down your spine at the cool air that wafts up from the dark room below, the contents inside hidden beyond the creaky staircase before you. something about the energy it gave off both drew you in and repelled you at the same time, keeping you still in place as you stared at the dark pit below.
“you scared? i can go first,” garroth offers, waving his hand in front of your face.
“huh? oh no, i’m not scared.”
“…sure…” he teases, snickering at the glare you send as he leads the way. “don’t worry. if you turn back now i won’t tell the others you’re a scaredy cat.”
“scaredy cat? how old are you?”
“older than you.”
you roll your eyes, and despite wanting to smack the boy’s forehead, your focus turns to the buzz of the single lightbulb that flickers on as you both make it to the bottom of the steps. garroth walks over to some boxes and crates that had been stacked in the corner, leaving you to look around at the concrete walls around you.
he was right, there wasn’t much special about it. nothing but cobwebs and crates filled the bunker, aside from a pile of rocks and dirt piled in the corner behind the stairs. as garroth continues to shuffle through his family’s storage, you curiously walk over to the debris. strange. sure, this was just a small vacation spot for the ro’meaves, but they always kept everything so tidy. why would they just leave this junk in here?
squinting your eyes, you catch a dark, brownish red painted on the wall. the shadow of the staircase kept it too dim to read, but you also catch a crack in the wall that looked like an old covered-up doorway. something about it sent a shiver up your spine, the hairs on the back of your neck standing up. why is this place freaking you out so much?
“what are you looking at?” garroth suddenly asks from behind you, making you jump in place.
“oh, i was just trying to read this.” you point to the wall, and he pulls a flashlight from his pocket, shining it onto the dusty surface.
you were right. dark, reddish brown is rather messily painted onto the wall as if it were done in a hurry. the writing is illegible, whether it’s in another language or just poorly written indiscernible by you. though, above the writing, you did recognize one thing. it wasn’t words or strange signs, but instead a symbol of a very familiar divine figure.
“is that the irene sigil?”
“oh, yeah. that was there since i was a kid—as long as i can remember. mom just brushed it off saying it was dad playing a prank on us to try and scare us or something. but honestly, i always thought it was just kinda weird.”
“yeah… i know it’s probably paint… but doesn’t that look like blood or something?”
garroth snorts and begins to shake his head, before he hums and leans forward with furrowed brows. “you know… i remember it being brighter red when i was younger. now it’s kinda brown. i’m not great at science but isn’t that what happens when blood oxidizes for a long time or something?”
you raise an eyebrow at that, the two of you making nervous eye contact from the corners of your eyes.
“surely it’s just dirt and time that made the paint fade. why would it be blood?” you dryly laugh, standing straight again.
“yeah. blood would be weird. i think it’s just this place. always gave me the creeps.” garroth nods, following your awkward laughter as he stands tall himself, lifting the small stack of paper plates in his hand. “i uh—i found some plates by the way. so we should probably go eat now.”
“right, right,” you agree, glancing one last time at the ominous drawings before the two of you climb the stairs quicker than you had descended them.
“man. to be able to spend the rest of my days floating around in the water. that would be the life,” katelyn murmurs, her head bobbing on top of the water as she floats on her back. “i know i’m a mermaid in another life.”
you glance over to her from the float you had lazily thrown your arms over. her hair flowed from her head in tendrils, the color darker from the water but occasionally shimmering as the sun's rays hit the strands. her pale skin and light blue swimsuit stood out from the darker water below her, making her practically glow against the river’s surface.
“i could see that, actually.”
katelyn lifts herself upright, starting to giggle. “right?”
“hey guys! if we want to kayak then we should do it before it gets dark,” garroth calls from the rope swing on the opposite side of the river bank. “you still want to go?”
“of course!” kate calls back, as if the answer was obvious.
vylad whoops while laurance swings himself over the water, the boy flipping back in the air as he goes. he appears on the surface a moment later, smiling as he spits the water from his mouth. “we’ll grab them from the shed!”
“is zane coming?” you ask, wading backward towards the small wooden dock that aph was perched on.
“he’s still pouting up in the cabin. you can go see if he wants to come,” vylad says. “…he probably won’t, though.”
“okay, i’ll go check, anyways.”
“are you sure you don’t want to come in the water, aphmau?” katelyn asks, swimming up to the edge with you.
“ummm, yep!” she smiles, her demeanor seeming a bit nervous as she eyes the flowing river ahead. “just don’t feel like swimming.”
“well, maybe you can kayak with us instead. you don’t even have to get wet for that.”
“maybe…”
wrapping a towel around your shoulders, you begin the walk back up to the campsite, grateful for the stone steps that had been built into the steep hill. trees hung over the path, keeping you shaded while the cool mountain breeze bristled the leaves over your head. your friends’ laughter and splashing in the water fade into the background as you finally make it to the top, your footsteps falling into the grass and dirt as you march up to the cabin door.
it’s dark inside, save for the natural light that filtered through the windows and the lamp lit up next to zane’s bunk. he laid back on the pillows, hoodie pulled over his head as he clicked away at his game. despite your obvious entrance, he completely ignores it, not even sparing a glance in your direction.
“hey.”
“what.”
you hold back the eye roll that fights against your eyelids, instead quietly sighing under your breath.
“we’re going kayaking in a minute. want to come?”
“no.”
“it’s the last evening of our trip. don’t you want to at least try to have a little fun?”
“no. i don’t care about swimming or kayaking, so why would i?”
“because i came all the way up here to get you to go.”
“then it was a waste of your time.”
you pull in another sharp breath, and despite the desire to just turn around nagging at your brain, you couldn’t ignore the image of him curled on the school tile. clearly, despite his harshness and wanting to seem like he didn’t care, he did seek validation from others. his whole act of being a punk and trying to get that validation from gene of all people nagged at your head.
“you know… actually not having people and friends who care about you isn’t very much fun. i’m sure a lot of people would kill to be in your place right now.” you shift on your feet. “not trying to lecture you or something, but you should at least try and have a little fun, since you’re already stuck here. in the future, you might regret not taking advantage of this time with everyone.”
“i don’t need you to tell me anything,” he grumbles, though not sounding as snappy as before. “i don’t like socializing. is it that hard to understand?”
“no. i don’t necessarily like it all the time, either. it can be really draining. but so is being alone all the time. you can think you like it but it eventually just makes you bitter. you never know when you’ll turn around needing someone to help you only to realize you’ve pushed them all away.”
“oh, like you’d know anything about that,” he snips. “you get coddled by everyone 'cause you can’t go outside without getting scared about some—“
he flinches like the sour words that left his mouth had spat out of his lips before he could even think of them.
“what an awful thing to say. you don’t know anything.”
his mouth is agape, and the eye that’s visible to you for once seems full of guilt.
“the offer still stands. i just thought i’d let you know.” you turn around, teeth tugging at the skin of your lip as you step out of the cabin.
stupid boy.
you make it to the edge of the camp, at the top of the stone stairs, when the cabin door creaks open and closes. quickened footsteps follow after you a moment later, before the lanky boy quietly falls in place next to you. his head is low, eye trained on the rocky path beneath your feet.
a beat passes in silence, your eyes locked on the steps ahead. he sighs tensely, shoving his hands in his pockets.
“sorry,” he mumbles. “that was shitty to say. even for me.”
you start down the steps, shrugging. “it’s fine.”
he starts to follow, and while no more apologies leave his lips, you can tell he’s sorry enough based on the fact he was still following you to the dock. that alone was enough to surprise you, considering he’d likely rather shoot his own foot than apologize even to his own two brothers.
“woah, you actually got him out here. you have secret powers or something?” laurance raises his eyebrows, shooting a questioning look at zane who loomed behind you as you approached the dock.
“something like that,” you muse.
“i don’t know if i want to go,” aphmau mutters, her arms wrapped around herself as she rocks on her feet by the water.
the kayaks are lined up by her feet, four double-seaters in a row.
“well, even zane is going so you definitely have to,” katelyn says, splashing a bit of water by the girl’s feet and giggling when she leaps back.
“you don’t have to, but it’ll be fun! you can go with zane since he also doesn’t want to get wet. then you can both be reassured knowing you won’t tip the other in,” you suggest.
“i would rather not share with her.” zane sneers, eyeing aphmau up and down with a rather sassy look.
the girl takes great offense to this, her fists clenched by her sides. “well—! i don’t want to share with you, either! you have a stupid face!”
“wow. i thought we left kindergarten.” garroth rolls his eyes, nodding his head to laurance, who has already dragged one out into the water and is occupying himself by attempting to jump inside. “looks like he already left with one, anyways.”
katelyn pulls you towards one of the three left, pushing you into the spot in front of her as she slides in herself. you nearly tip over into the water again from the sudden movement, yelping as water splashes on your lap.
“well, that leaves vylad and me in this one. come on you two.” garroth motions to the last kayak left, raising his eyebrows challengingly at the two pouting teens left on the dock. “let’s be civil.”
it took ten minutes of complaining and nervous shuffling before the whole group was out on the water. despite the drama of it all, it was worth it. despite aphmau’s sudden fear of water which you hadn’t noticed before and zane’s reluctance to experience any joy, you could tell they were at least slightly enjoying this, too. the sun was painting the clouds in different shades of orange and pink as it made its way to the horizon, leaving you all surprisingly quiet as you all soaked in the moment.
“what’s on your mind?” katelyn suddenly asks from behind you, and despite nobody else turning their heads over, you could tell they were listening. “and don’t say nothing like you usually do lately.”
a huff leaves your nose, and a few moments pass before you answer. “just about… how…”
“the stalker?” aphmau whispers, pulling everyone’s eyes towards you.
“...yeah. just how weird it was that he showed his face, and now it’s been since before prom since i’ve seen him or the black suv. i just want to know what he’s thinking.”
laurance spins the kayak oar in his hands, before using it to pull himself closer to you.
“you hadn’t seen him before?”
“well, no. i mean, yes, but i didn’t realize it was him until later.” you rub your eyes with the palms of your hands. “it isn’t the first time he’s disappeared for a while, but he gets bolder each time he 'shows' himself to me. it’s just been making me feel on edge, lately, is all.”
there isn’t a response to that for a few beats.
“sorry, that was a mood dampener.”
there’s a collective shake of heads (besides zane), a few protestant “no”s echoing across the group.
“it just sucks. how has police not done anything?”
“they can’t actually do anything unless an actual threat to my life is made. plus, he’s so inconsistent with his appearances that it would take a lot of resources and time from emergency services if they tried tracking him. at least, that’s what the cops said before. that’s why i moved in the first place.”
katelyn scoffs. “that’s such bullshit. they just wait until something bad happens? it shouldn’t matter how long it takes. that’s psychological warfare.”
you shrug, bringing your knees up to your chest and resting your chin on them. “yeah, but unfortunately that’s how it works. i guess i’m just scared that i’ll have to run again. i’ve never had friends like you guys… so the thought of having to leave you all behind right as i get to be normal is really scary.”
“no matter what happens, you’ll always be our friend," vylad says, giving you a hopeful grin.
“and as your friends, we’re here to protect you,” garroth adds, uncharacteristically serious. “we won’t let anything bad happen to you.”
the van rocks forward as garroth parks, the sunset shining through the windows and creating bright shapes across your eyelids. cracking your eyes open, you reluctantly pull your cheek from where it had snuggly rested on katelyn’s shoulder, consequentially stirring up aphmau who was laid across your lap. the icee she’d gotten on the trip back was still precariously set between her legs—it was shocking that it hadn't spilled onto her lap as the three of you slept in the back.
aphmau’s house meets your eyes as you clamber out of the back seat, your own just right down your line of vision. you were back home. a smile lifts on the corner of your lips at that. it wasn’t just a place you moved into, anymore. it was home. as were the teens that crawled out from the ro’meave’s van. home.
a strange shiver of being watched prickles at your neck, and your attention turns from your friends to the street behind you. nothing is there but the other houses on the street, the cars you saw regularly parked in their driveways.
everything is fine. the neighborhood is peaceful in the evening time, the summer insects chirping away as their time of the night comes. the air around you is calm, yet your breath seems to catch in your throat, the hot air invading your lungs rather than warming them. your heart thuds in your chest, its pace so rapid it feels like it’s stuttering against your rib cage.
you hadn’t stopped thinking about the markings on the bunker wall the whole trip, the imagery of the creepy, bloody-looking drawings still imprinted in your mind. on top of that, the conversation you’d had last evening was still buzzing around in your head, making for a rough mix of paranoia.
“are you okay?” aphmau whispers from right next to you, finally pulling your eyes from the street to the worried-looking girl next to you.
“yeah… just thinking. about things.”
that was eloquent.
you’re grateful for this trip. ever since she’d started talking to that aaron guy she seemed to have a lot less time to hang out or even talk to you as much, so having some time with the girl by herself was nice. you honestly didn’t blame her for her puppy love with the guy. you’d thought of him as a delinquent at first, but he wasn’t so bad at prom. he was a little quiet, but he was actually pretty nice as far as you could tell. he was the tall, dark, and handsome type, and that was a perfect contrast to the walking sun that aphmau was.
she hums looking unsure, before reluctantly letting it go as you wave her off.
“really?” katelyn suddenly groans, staring down at her phone.
laurance turns to look over his shoulder at the girl, a mischievous smile dancing across his face.
“what?”
“you know what! you little creep, why'd you post this? delete it, now!”
laurance begins to snicker. “no. it’s funny.”
you walk to katelyn’s side as she sends a sharp glare at him, peering over her shoulder to see her instagram open. recently posted by laurance was a picture of him and vylad cheesing into the camera, their faces at the bottom of the screen while you, kate, and aph were passed out in the background.
“i look awful. my mouth is open! i look like a mouth breather!”
“no… you three look… adorable…” he says between giggles, before yelping as the girl charges at him. aphmau chases after them as they run inside, her hands frantically waving for them to stop.
you walk after them, the ro’meave brothers—save for zane who’d been dropped off on the way—following along behind you into the salome residence. surprisingly you didn’t hear any shouting or wrestling as you’d expect, and instead, kate and laurance have crowded around the kitchen island that was filled with snacks.
sylvanna lets go of aphmau, who’d been wrapped up in her clutches for a tight hug, and sets her sights on you.
“mija!” she rushes you, pulling you in her arms and rocking side to side. “did you all have fun?”
“yes! it was a lot of fun,” you laugh, the tenseness in your shoulders leaving with every shake from the woman. “thank you for letting us all stay here for the night.”
“of course! as long as the boys here behave themselves, then your vacation doesn’t have to end just yet!” she says, her head whipping to the three guys who stiffen at her burning glare.
laurance looks at the feisty woman from the corner of his widened eyes, cheeks full of chips as he nods.
“of course. we’d never, miss sylvanna.” garroth smiles. “our mum taught us better.”
“of course she did!” she lets you go from her grasp, walking back over to the group with a chipper grin. “just making sure you don’t forget. zianna gave me permission to whoop all of your asses if you try anything!”
“mom…” aphmau sighs, rubbing her forehead.
“what? just speakin’ the truth, yo!”
aphmau groans into her hands.
you walk over to the snacks, picking up some small bite-sized things to nibble on as the lively conversation continues around you. everyone looks so happy. their smiling faces bright in the dim kitchen light, laughter carrying through the air of the cozy house and wrapping around you like a tight warm hug. part of you wishes you could sit in this moment forever, standing in the kitchen and watching your friends chatter amongst themselves. it was such a simple moment, yet you felt as though you should hold on to it.
“nothing—“ you start, before shaking your head with a smile. “i’m just glad we’re all friends.”
everyone stops, and as they all smile at you you don’t feel the need to hide or curl away like you usually would when faced with many eyes on you. there’s no prickling in your hands, or a coldness in your chest. you just feel warm.
“awwww,” sylvanna coos, aphmau making a similar sound as the two wrap their arms around you and press their cheeks into your hair. “we love you too!”
“you’re the cutest.” katelyn laughs, wrapping her arms around the three of you—with the boys following quickly after.
the moment lasts for a good ten seconds before you feel overwhelmed by the love being poured onto you.
“okay, okay. i’m gonna run to my house really quick to grab some things.” squirming out of their arms with a giggle, your cheeks burn hot from the affection.
“okay, mija. don’t take long.” sylvanna taps your nose.
you nod and make your way to the front door, pausing when you realize the sun has already disappeared, leaving the space beyond the window dark and black. for some reason, it sends an anxious feeling through your chest, and as you reach for the door you nearly jump out of your skin as garroth’s hand lands on your shoulder.
“hey. didn’t mean to scare you.” he smiles nervously, his hand waving over your shoulder like it would wipe away the fright he’d just given you.
“oh! it’s okay, garroth. what’s up?”
“you just looked a little nervous earlier,” he says, shifting on his feet. “are you thinking about… everything? i can walk you to your house if you’re feeling scared.”
a deep breath of air fills your lungs. sweet garroth. all of your friends were, and you knew they’d all come running to help you if you called—and you were just stepping right down the street. there’s nothing to worry about.
“no, that’s okay.” you reach out to pat his arm. “thank you, garroth. i’ll be okay.”
“are you sure? i really don’t mind.”
“yeah. i’m sure.”
he looks hesitant, but takes a step back with a small smile. “okay, then. see you in a bit.”
“mhm.”
you open the door, step out, and give a wave before continuing out to the pavement. the lingering heat from the summer sun wavered in the air, though the cool night breeze was beginning to blow it away, leaving the air perfectly warm against your skin. ignoring the tingling in your fingers, you keep your shoulders high as you cut across the lawn to the sidewalk, shoes clicking against the concrete.
glancing back one last time, garroth was slowly closing the door, watching you walk away before completely shutting it.
your eyes rake the street beside you, street lamps and the moonlight lighting up every car on the road. each neighbor had their vehicles in their regular spots, everything seeming in order as you check every house one by one.
everything is fine, right? so why do you feel so on edge?
swallowing thickly, you take a shaky inhale and bring your sweaty hand up to zianna’s locket. this walk to your house feels longer than usual.
what’s that noise?
eyebrows pulling together, your eyes narrow as you look ahead, to where the street lamp ahead shone down on an idled vehicle in the road.
black paint reflected back at you, but not the lights. no, the only hint that it was on was the low hum of the engine.
you don’t realize you’ve frozen in place—nor that your breaths had stopped—until you suck in a sudden breath to chase away the swirling black dots that swam around your peripheral vision. you’re one house away from your home, two from aphmau’s. the vehicle is in front of yours.
would you have better luck running forward to your house? or turning around and booking it back to hers? have you already messed up by standing here like frozen prey?
you tear your eyes from the suv, flicking your anxiously blurred vision to the street ahead of you. a woman’s silhouette approached you, and you finally registered the clicking of her heels over the pounding of your heart in your ears and labored breathing. the distant street lamp shines on her hair, the powder blue a strangely familiar shade on your eyes. should you ask her for help? but why would a woman be out here in what looked to be formal attire?
no. she’s with him. you need to run.
it takes a second too long for your body to obey your mind, but you do turn, legs unlocking from their stiffened place and ready to run. you only make it two steps before you look up, a gasp you can only describe as terror filling your lungs when you see the man standing just five steps behind you. dark eyes bore into you, and it felt like you were staring into the depths of an evil entity rather than whoever this man was.
you bring your fist up to your face, slotting the metal whistle between your lips.
before you can even take in a full breath, the man has closed the distance, the back of his hand smacking across your cheek and pulling the locket from your fingers. you vaguely feel the clasp of the necklace break off from the back of your neck, the locket clattering to the ground and away from your reach. stumbling back from the sting of his strike, there’s barely any time to stand upright before his hand is gripping you by the back of the head, the other bringing a damp cloth up to cover your mouth and nose.
it smells sweet, overwhelmingly sweet. suddenly it’s like cotton candy has filled your head and lungs, your vision swimming dizzily. with whatever strength you have left, you dig your nails deep into the man’s hands, dragging down and successfully getting him to drop you with a grunt.
stumbling forward, you fall on the pavement, crawling to the street. your vision turns and twists, feet clumsily dragging underneath you like an injured deer.
you hadn’t made a sound yet. no one can hear what’s happening right now.
weak arms give out from beneath you, your cheek colliding with the rough street. turning your head, you try to scream, but your lungs give out on your attempt and merely exhale a small helpless whimper. heels appear in front of you, and you look up to see a halo of blue before something pricks against your neck.
and everything goes black.
