bridge is a great and complex character: the analysis
yall have a hard time actually understanding what’s going on in the show. sure, it’s silly, but the characters are really well developed and everyone seems to ignore it (even the self-proclaimed sane ones)
anyway, bridge is great. he is very accurate system representation that we need. first, if yall remember that episode in season 3 where he had a complete breakdown. it was a harsh reality check. even though the systems in this show are generally chill with their system and don’t have many negative side effects, that breakdown showed very clearly how sometimes systems just break down. all the alters went through a shift after that. the shift is visible if you’re paying attention.
now, seawatt and cyn. seawatt is a much more fleshed out character while cyn is more one-dimensional. i personally like that cyn is more one-dimensional. it shows that the creator took time to realize that not all systems are the same, and it really shows how bridge is a polyfrag system. not all alters are created equally. some only really like bugs, and that’s fine. and seawatt’s interactions with everyone shows that he’s as much as a host as bridge is. seawatt has change, he shifts when he’s bitchy, he has people he prefers talking to, he has likes and dislikes. even the amount of source separation is done right.
and how bridge acts at times shows how systems can regularly experience denial. there’s no “original alter” or “core” but bridge seems to have been the host for their entire life, so it’s natural that bridge feels more like a “core” even if those don’t exist. and the way he will suppress switches and sometimes seem to ignore the other alters is a great way of showing that.
anyway, ramble over. i’ll have some more fanart soon!! probably of cyn or ethan, i love those guys<3

i need to know your thoughts on bridge
(@axopostssometimes btw i just cant ask as a sideblog)
I think that bridge is a good morally grey system, and fits in among the cast as someone that may not be trying to become a god but instead is trying to find acceptance among people that match and can even outfreak him
I think that really does a lot to set him apart from others, and really paints a stark contrast between Bridge and the other alters—like Evil Alter who actually IS trying to achieve godhood by ripping it out of some other god’s being and Seawatt who already has a sense of security in his identity and doesn’t need acceptance from the other cast members
(This personally helps make sense why Skew likes Bridge and hates Seawatt and has no opinion on Evil Alter—Seawatt doesn’t need him! But Bridge and Evil Alter both have something to gain from Skew and that reassures Skew that they won’t leave him.)
I loathe his infantilization though—I get that Bridge is younger mentally in comparison to Evil Alter and Seawatt, but Bridge isn’t a 5-year old, Bridge is self-sufficient and could emancipate himself and be perfectly fine (in fact, i personally suspect and headcanon that he IS already emancipated from parental care) and his autism is NOT a good reason to babify him.
Bridge even when he’s the one in front does a lot of crimes and atrocities, not just Evil Alter. (Seawatt is surprisingly the least problematic alter.)
