Michael Sheen was relaxing at his Los Angeles home when something caught his eye on Wikipedia.
It was a single line about a man named Douglas Gowan, who had discovered dangerously high levels of a toxic chemical escaping a landfill near farmland in south Wales.
Disturbed and intrigued, the Hollywood star reached out to Douglas, who by this point was seriously ill and had a matter of months to live.
Sheen arranged to meet Douglas to record his final testimony - sparking a journey into a dark environmental secret.
'A life changing moment'
The story begins in 1967 when Douglas, who was working as a consultant for the National Farming Union, was called to look at a badly deformed calf at a farm near Llantrisant, in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Douglas had heard odd reports from the area, but what he saw was to change the course of his life.
“I see this calf lying on the grass. Three legs, no tail. Piteous look on its face. No genitalia. It's there in my arms. And it was a life changing moment,” he later told Sheen.
"I wanted to know who was responsible for this, what had caused it. And I wanted those people to be held accountable."
Douglas knew where to start.
The farm was next to a landfill site, called Brofiscin Quarry.
He collected samples from the water escaping the landfill and sent them to a laboratory, where scientists found a famous fire-retardant type of chemical called poly-chlorinated biphenyls - more commonly known as PCBs.
PCBs are now known to be highly toxic and production of the chemicals is banned in 151 countries, including the UK.
But back in the 1960s, the chemicals were celebrated and used in products like paint and paper to stop them from catching fire.
The chemicals were largely associated with one company - a US chemical giant called Monsanto - whose European factory was in Newport, south Wales. The company is no longer in existence.
The company had produced thousands of tonnes of surplus PCBs which were being buried in dumpsites.
Douglas began to fear that the chemical was getting into the food chain - via fields, cattle, meat and milk.
He also feared that PCBs were so-called forever chemicals, meaning they would never biodegrade.

PCB Manufacturer in Los Angeles - HexCorp
PCBs are also used in Aerospace components, maritime applications, safety and security equipment, LEDs, defence equipment and many more sectors.
Sandwich like structure made of the conductive and insulating layer, used for two purposes firstly to provide mechanical support to electronic components so that they could be affixed at desired locations by the means of soldering and second is to provide electrical connection between the terminal of components, using conductive pathways, tracks or signal traces etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate.
It is used in many electronic devices. It’s an important part of most electronic devices that we use in our daily lives. PCBs are also of different types depending on the application, even on the same application, there is two or more kind of PCBs used. Although mainly there is two assembly process from which PCBs are assembled. The first is thru-hole mounting and the second is surface mounting. Talking to a few PCB manufacturers in Los Angles, they said reflow soldering is most commonly used by them.
Although PCBs are used in various industries and range from small devices to very large machines. But as far as common uses are concerned we are listing a few uses that are quite common.
1.  AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATION: with an increase in the use of electronic components in vehicles by manufacturer use of PCB are also increasing. As compared to early times when it was used in windshield wipers and headlight switches, now they are used in advanced features such as sensors, control systems, navigation and entertainment.
2.   MEDICAL DEVICES: Used in various devices like monitoring, diagnostics and treatment devices apart from being used in appliances. There are various PCB prototype manufacturers, in Los Angles who play an important role as they create a prototype as per the need and once the prototype is tested then only large scale production gets going.
3.  CONSUMER ELECTRONICS: ranging from home appliances, communication, computers to entertainment, it won't be wrong to say that the most common use of PCB is consumer electronics. Most PCB manufacturer in Los Angles focuses their production in this sector only.
4.  INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION: Used widely in manufacturing, measuring and power equipment as electronic equipment power all these Equipment.
PCBs are used in various sectors and each sector and application requires a different or specific PCB. FOR EXAMPLE, PCBs used in industrial applications need to be high powered and durable and in AUTOMATIVE applications PCB needs to withstand high temperature and vibrations. So the manufacturer manufactures PCB as per the use. PCB manufacturers in Los Angles say that the most challenging part of manufacturing PCB is creating a prototype that is suited as per the application.

Excerpt from this article from Nation of Change:
Los Angeles County recently filed a lawsuit against Bayer, the company that purchased Monsanto last year, for allegedly contaminating the local environment with an outlawed chemical that Monsanto used in many of its products decades ago. According to the lawsuit, Monsanto had been aware that polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were harmful but concealed the data for years while polluting the water.
Between 1935 and 1977, Monsanto manufactured PCBs in many of its products but discontinued production shortly before the U.S. government outlawed PCBs in 1979. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PCBs are “toxic and persistent chemicals primarily used as insulating fluids in heavy-duty electrical equipment in power plants, industries, and large buildings across the country… PCBs have caused birth defects and cancer in laboratory animals, and they are a suspected cause of cancer and adverse skin and liver effects in humans.”
Scott Kuhn, a lawyer for the county, recently told Reuters that a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles federal court on Thursday seeks compensatory and punitive damages. According to the suit, Monsanto concealed knowledge that PCBs would cause environmental damage while continuing to pollute multiple waterways.
According to Kuhn, the county is seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in damages in order to reconstruct its failing stormwater systems and other contaminated bodies of water.

Why Are Actually French Guy So Unavoidable.
Started in 2007 to keep a monitor of gay films that I saw, this blog has actually happened much even further than I had actually planned. After paying out a lot of for a ticket (a freaking $8.75 for a matinee proving), I failed to even worry about looking at the snack bar; I was actually routed to head up a tour of steps to my film, which startled me, because from the outside show business looked a one-story gathering (ah ...' the Loft space' ... I obtain it!). Silom has every little thing an amusement area requires if you want to draw crowds of people every night: lots of go-go bars, the trendiest hip-hop clubs, loud techno and hypnotic trance music, after-hours joint series, gay-dominated clubs and also sex centers. Join our team on the following Ribble Valley Rambler Walk on Sunday, January 14th. It took the center back to its own splendor times and also led to the last grand time of Disney films under Walt themself. " I assume there is actually an entire brand-new production that's coming that intends to create films which are coming from within all of them, an account originating from their life," mentioned Kashyap at the beginning. Listening to songs and taking pleasure in media is actually one thing most individuals actually possess an effortless way of performing. It got a Jewish stand-up comic to really take bigotry in to the light of day for what it was: jonahappybody.info a ridiculous, malicious wild-goose chase. " For a while many of our company were actually correct concerning the method all this presentism will influence investments and money management, also modern technology as well as media, our experts were entirely inappropriate regarding how living in after that" currently" will end up affecting as people. First of all I wanted to thank for this venture, I have utilized it as bottom for my 2nd year uni job I possess almost complete this job and for the uni requiremnts I have to made PCB and energy supply in order to develop all of it in one system, additionally I have actually included an additional setting to feature quick notification as my girl demand it haha. Queer experimental and non-profit film cumulative Dirty Appeals is actually set to mixture the past history of gay male erotica with modern day notions of porn in a pop-up 24-hour adult porn theatre in Los Angeles on August 4 starting at midnight. Socialize with others on the discussion forums and also share your passion for all things interactives media, whether it is actually popping wild animals photos on the Serengeti, developing outstanding business components and presentations, or even amazing a YouTube audience with amazing video recordings. Until now, we have actually observed that the GT72 has actually remained consistent along with intermittent device that births the name "Dominator": It possesses excellent audio chops, a relaxed computer keyboard, strong create premium and also a screen worthwhile of virtually any type of media you will intend to view on it. Is it incredibly powerful, too? The popular music made use of is from the appropriate era and is used even more thus to create the time period in which the movie is prepared. 2) As Florin points out, our company will certainly need to re-write the driver parts of the code to deal with 4 display screens. As a whole, premium quality sources like Blu-ray 3D films take the least favorite compared to active shutter 3DTVs, due to the fact that they remain in 1080p the reduction in settlement isn't particularly visible, and after a current firmware update altered the protocol for video recording handling (even more particular coming from Ultimate AV Mag is readily available listed here) it improved some slight artefacts our company would certainly found at CES.

The Air You Breathe Is More Polluted Than You Know
By Dr. Mercola
Your life depends on the air you breathe. Your body is so dependent on oxygen, you can go only a few minutes without air. The quality of air affects your respiratory system and your overall health. Unfortunately, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), 92 percent of the world breathes polluted air1 and nearly 7 million deaths are attributed to air pollution each year.2
From several sociological studies,3 researchers determined the average time a person living in the U.S. spends inside has remained stable for decades. The data indicates those who are employed spend 2 percent of their time outside, 6 percent in transit and nearly 92 percent of their time indoors.
This means your indoor air quality is more important to your overall health than ever before. However, some indoor pollutants may be as much as 100 times higher than outdoor levels as many of today's homes are nearly airtight to achieve energy-efficiency.4 According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), poor indoor air quality is one of the top public health risks.5
According to WHO, air pollution is a major contributor to respiratory infections, heart disease and cancer. In a collaborative effort of more than 40 researchers looking at data from 130 countries, the scientist called air pollution the “largest environmental cause of disease and premature death in the world today.”6 In 2015 nearly 16 percent of all deaths worldwide were attributed to air pollution, accounting for three times more than deaths related to AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined.
The most dangerous air pollution is fine particulate matter (PM) which refers to particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers in diameter (PM2.5). These particles are small enough to pass through lung tissue and enter your bloodstream triggering chronic inflammation and chronic disease. According to the most recent research, more Americans are breathing polluted air than ever before, despite efforts from automobile and manufacturing industries to reduce emissions.7
Nearly Half of Americans Breathe Polluted Air
As you look outside your window, it's likely the air you see and breathe is cleaner than it was decades ago. Since 1980 levels of some air pollution have fallen.8 Smog covering cities like Los Angeles are on the decline. It might be tempting to assume America won the war on pollution, but the American Lung Association (ALA) finds this is not the case.9 In their State of the Air report, the ALA finds nearly 148 million Americans live in areas where air pollution is at unhealthy levels and simply breathing may be dangerous.10
What's worse, the report also demonstrates some aspects of air quality have been deteriorating in the past years instead of improving. Although some improvements have been recorded as coal fired power plants have reduce their level of particulate pollution, and particulates have fallen as a whole since the Clean Air Act was passed in 1970, the ALA report clearly demonstrates ozone pollution is once again on the rise.11
Ozone levels had spiked in the United States in 2016, which marked the nation's second hottest year on record. Of the 25 cities with the highest levels, 16 suffered an increase in the number of high-level ozone days and many of those were located in California. As levels of “dirty” air pollution are decreasing, particulate pollution from ozone is rising. Report author Janice Nolan, assistant vice president of the national policy for the ALA commented:12
“As heat increases, ozone forms more rapidly, so we had more cities with more ozone days. We saw a lot of evidence in 2016 of the impact climate change and global warming is going to have on us. Air quality would get worse in many places. There are a lot of subtle places where the [EPA] could weaken and roll back the progress we have made, and we are very concerned about that.”
The State of the Air report clearly demonstrates progress is being lost, in part from climate change. Rising levels of ozone are linked to warmer temperatures making it tough to fight smog in the future. The ALA report found more than 40 percent of Americans lived in counties with unhealthy levels of ozone or particle pollution, increasing risk for premature death, lung cancer, asthma, cardiovascular damage and developmental and reproductive harm.13 Writing about the risks of ozone pollution, the ALA report states:14
“Inhaling ozone pollution is like getting a sunburn on the lung. It can trigger coughing and asthma attacks and may even shorten life. Warmer temperatures make ozone more likely to form and harder to clean up.”
Poor Air Quality Increases Risks to Adults and Children
In an evaluation of the effect of air pollution on the respiratory system,15 researchers tracked over 146,000 people, 77 percent of whom were younger than 2 years, who were treated for infections in hospitals and clinics in Utah. At the same time, data was gathered on levels of PM2.5 particulate matter at three locations in the area.
Documenting a substantial variation in levels of PM2.5, researchers found with each increase of 10 micrograms per cubic meter of PM2.5 there was up to 23 percent increase in serious respiratory infections.16 Researchers said this was the largest study published to date involving the evaluation of air pollution on children.17
Lead author Benjamin Horne, Ph.D., director of cardiovascular and genetic epidemiology at the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute in Salt Lake City, believes an important finding from the study demonstrated infectious processes may be influenced by air pollution.18 Although the data revealed concerning results, the researchers pointed out the average daily air pollution readings in Utah were lower than those commonly found in Los Angeles or New York.19
Your Kitchen Cabinets May Be Loaded With PCBs
Two primary sources of indoor air pollution are the materials used to construct the building and everything in it, and chemical products you bring into your home, such as hairspray and room deodorizers. Many of these sources release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with short-term and long-term health effects. Formaldehyde, arsenic, flame retardant chemicals and phthalates are all toxic chemicals found in products in your home.
Flame retardant chemicals have been identified as one of 17 high priority groups to be avoided to reduce breast cancer20 and which are poisoning pets21 and wildlife.22 In 2015, a coalition of medical consumer worker groups successfully petitioned the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to ban all organohalogens, most commonly used in flame retardants found in children's products, furniture, mattresses, yoga and exercise mats and electronic casings.23
Among this class of chemicals are polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which were banned in 1977 due to health concerns.24 Researchers now suggest PCBs, banned nearly four decades ago, may be released from your kitchen cabinets as the sealants break down.25 These PCBs are cancer-causing chemicals and once used in everything from electrical appliances to fluorescent lighting.
The study was performed at the University of Iowa College of Engineering, during which researchers investigated the types and levels of PCBs found in homes.26
Investigators collected data inside and outside 16 homes in Iowa during a six-week period and found three types of PCBs. Interestingly, the homes built more recently had higher levels of the harmful chemicals. In an effort to pinpoint the sources, the researchers tested a variety of household goods and found the highest levels were emitted from kitchen cabinetry.
They suspect the PCBs were a byproduct of the sealants used in the cabinets and emitted as the sealants degraded. Researcher and assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences, Alicia Timme-Laragy, Ph.D., commented on the types of PCBs found in the homes,27 “This is a really important finding in terms of potential health risks to people and vulnerable populations - and pets. Who would think kitchen cabinets would be a source of PCBs?”
Weakening the Clean Air Act Likely to Trigger Increased Pollution
More than 95 percent of the world's population breathe unsafe air, but the burden is falling hardest on the poorest countries. In a report published by the Health Effects Institute,28 researchers used satellite data to estimate the number of people who breathe air pollution at levels higher than deemed safe by WHO.
Vice president of the Health Effects Institute, Bob O'Keefe, believes the gap between the most polluted air and the least polluted air is striking, as developed countries have made moves to clean up air pollution and developing countries have fallen further behind while concentrating on economic growth.29 The Health Effects Institute report, released almost simultaneously as the ALA State of the Air report, reinforces an increasing weight of data demonstrating how air pollution is contributing toward a rising number of deaths.
Data from satellites and ground monitoring reveal health risks are rising from breathing dirty air. However, while many consumer protection advocacy programs are fighting to clean the air you breathe, it appears efforts led by the Trump administration could lead to worse air quality in America.30 The ALA called out Congress and the EPA in their State of the Air report for six threats to the nation's air quality, including steps being taken by the administration to weaken enforcement of key safeguards required in the Clean Air Act.31
Current legislation to weaken the Clean Air Act include repealing plans to reduce carbon pollution from power plants and removing limits on emissions from oil and gas operations each contribute to increasing particulate air pollution and raising your health risks.32 ALA national president and CEO Harold P. Wimmer said in a press release following the release of the report:33
"The Clean Air Act has saved lives and improved lung health for nearly 50 years. Congress and the EPA are tasked with protecting Americans - including protecting the right to breathe air that doesn't make people sick or die prematurely. We call on President Trump, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and members of Congress to fully fund, implement and enforce the Clean Air Act for all pollutants - including those that drive climate change and make it harder to achieve healthy air for all."
Improve Your Air Quality at Home
There are steps you may consider to improve the quality of air you breathe each day in your own home and thus decrease your exposure to toxins. Many of these strategies are very cost-effective in the short run and may help significantly reduce your health care costs long-term.
Ventilation
One of the simplest and easiest ways to reduce the pollution count in your home is to open the windows. Since most new homes have little air leakage, opening the windows for as little as 15 minutes each day can improve the quality of the air you're breathing. An attic fan may reduce your air conditioning costs and bring in fresh outdoor air. Kitchen and bathroom fans venting outside help remove contaminants from these rooms.34
Some builders are installing Heat Recovery Ventilation systems to help prevent condensation and mold growth and improve indoor air quality in energy efficient homes.35 The same principles apply to ventilating your car. Chemicals from plastics, solvents, carpet and audio equipment in new cars add to the toxic mix in your car's cabin.
The "new car smell" can contain up to 35 times the health limit for VOCs, as discussed in my previous article, “What's in That New Car Smell?” However, when driving in heavy traffic you'll want to reduce air pollution from car exhaust by closing your windows and recirculating the air in your car until you are out of traffic.
Purification
youtube
An inexpensive method of removing toxins from the air and destressing your environment is using plants as discussed in this short video.36 See my previous article, “12 Healthy Houseplants That Improve Your Indoor Air Quality,” for a list of plants you may consider your home.
High quality air purifiers using photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) is one of the best technologies available. Rather than merely filtering the air, PCO actually cleans the air using ultraviolet light. Unlike filters, which simply trap pollutants, PCO transforms the pollutants into nontoxic substances. In addition to using them in your home, portable air purifiers are available to take with you when you work or travel.
Filtration
Water filters function to reduce the amount of airborne chlorine during a shower. This, combined with humidity levels in the bathroom, increases the amount of chlorine you inhale.37 Shop for a filter with NSF/ANSI 177: Shower Filtration Systems-Aesthetic Effects. These filters are tested by a third party to effectively remove chlorine.38
Vacuum your floors regularly using a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner or, even better, a central vacuum cleaner which can be retrofitted to your existing house. Standard bag- or bagless vacuum cleaners are another primary contributor to poor indoor air quality. A regular vacuum cleaner typically has about a 20 micron tolerance.
However, far more microscopic particles flow right through the vacuum cleaner than it actually picks up. Beware of cheaper knock-offs professing to have "HEPA-like" filters - get the real deal.
Cleaning
Avoid hanging dry-cleaned clothing in your closet as soon as you bring them home. Instead, hang them outside for an entire day or two if possible. Better yet, see if there's an eco-friendly dry cleaner in your city using some of the newer dry cleaning technologies, such as liquid CO2.
Most cleaning products, air fresheners and scented candles contribute to poor indoor air quality. Research has linked once-weekly use of cleaning products with a 24 to 32 percent higher risk of progressive lung disease.39
Fortunately, there are safe, cost-effective and efficient options, including soap and water, or vinegar and baking soda.40 Strategies in my previous article, "Are Household Products Killing Us?" may help reduce your toxic load. Consider these suggestions to clean your home using simple products you may already have in your cabinets.
Borax: Acts as a whitener and will boost your detergent power. Add between one-fourth cup and 1 cup to your laundry, depending on the size of your load.
Vinegar: A weak acid, this common liquid is a natural cleaning and deodorizing substance. Consider adding between one-fourth cup and one-half cup to your laundry with your detergent and wash as usual. Don't mix the borax with vinegar in the same load as they neutralize each other. Vinegar is also a good general all-purpose cleaner for your kitchen and bathroom, and works great for cleaning mirrors and windows.
Homemade scouring powder: Make your own safe scouring powder for soap scum in the bath by combining two parts baking soda, and one part each of borax and salt.
Service your appliances
A poorly maintained furnace, space heater, hot water heater, water softener, natural gas heater or stove and other fuel burning appliances may leak carbon dioxide or nitrogen dioxide. Have your appliances serviced per the manufacturer's recommendations to reduce potential indoor air pollution.
Your air conditioner may also be a source of dangerous bacteria. On several occasions, outbreaks of Legionnaires' disease have been traced back to contaminated air conditioner units.
Your air conditioner compressor might be outside your house, but inside, often in the attic or basement, is where the condensation occurs. Mold grows in damp and humid environments. Use a dehumidifier and air conditioner to keep your humidity under 50 percent. Keep the units cleaned so they aren't a source of pollution.
The air ducts from your forced air heating and air conditioning units can be a source of pollution in your home. If there is mold growth, a buildup of dust and debris or if the ducts have become home to vermin, it's time to call a professional and have them cleaned.
Prevention
Ask smokers to go outside. Secondhand smoke from cigarettes, pipes and cigars contains over 200 known carcinogenic chemicals, endangering your health. Test for radon, a colorless, odorless gas linked to lung cancer. It can get trapped under your home during construction and may leak into your air system over time. Radon testing kits are a quick and cheap way to determine if you are at risk.
Avoid storing paints, adhesives, solvents, and other harsh chemicals in your house. If you must have them, keep them in a detached garage or shed. Avoid using cookware with nonstick coating, as these pots and pans can release toxins into the air when heated.
Avoid powders, whether cleansing scrubs, talcum or other personal care powders - these can be problematic as they float and linger in the air after each use. Many powders are allergens due to their tiny size, and can cause respiratory problems.

Ozone levels had spiked in the United States in 2016, which marked the nation’s second hottest year on record.
Researcher and assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences, Alicia Timme-Laragy, Ph.D., commented on the types of PCBs found in the homes,27 “This is a really important finding in terms of potential health risks to people and vulnerable populations — and pets.
Congress and the EPA are tasked with protecting Americans — including protecting the right to breathe air that doesn't make people sick or die prematurely. We call on President Trump, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and members of Congress to fully fund, implement and enforce the Clean Air Act for all pollutants — including those that drive climate change and make it harder to achieve healthy air for all."
The "new car smell" can contain up to 35 times the health limit for VOCs, as discussed in my previous article, “What’s in That New Car Smell?” However, when driving in heavy traffic you’ll want to reduce air pollution from car exhaust by closing your windows and recirculating the air in your car until you are out of traffic.
Beware of cheaper knock-offs professing to have "HEPA-like" filters — get the real deal.
Have your appliances serviced per the manufacturer’s recommendations to reduce potential indoor air pollution.
Your air conditioner may also be a source of dangerous bacteria. On several occasions, outbreaks of Legionnaires’ disease have been traced back to contaminated air conditioner units.
Avoid powders, whether cleansing scrubs, talcum or other personal care powders — these can be problematic as they float and linger in the air after each use. Many powders are allergens due to their tiny size, and can cause respiratory problems.

PCB Manufacturing Process Steps
Step 1: Design & Output
PCB design is approved for production, designer exports the design into the format their manufacturer support. It is a frequently used program which is also known as extended Gerber. Where you need to have a food campaign where you can easily the sought beautiful babies and software creates some beautifully designer offspring. In the PCB industry and has perfect output format. Where PCB design software where you can easily encode comprehensive vital information including copper tracking layers, drill drawings, apertures, and algorithms.
Step 2: From File To Film
Where PCB printing begins after the designer output where has schematic files a manufacturer conducts a DFM check. Manufacturer uses. A special printer called a plotter, which makes a film of the PCB and prints the circuit board. Where the manufacturer will use the films to image the PCBs. The PCB production in Los Angeles works from film to film. It has an inner layer of PCB and black ink represents the conductive copper parts of the PCB. It helps to achieve the perfect alignment of all films.
Step 3: Printing The Inner Layer
Where the PCB manufacturing process and preparation to make actual PCB. It compromises a laminate board whose core material is epoxy resin and glass fibre and is also called substrate material. Laminates serve as the ideal body for receiving the copper structures where PCB sublates material is provided which is sturdy and dust resistant. The copper is pre-bonded on both sides where it processes the hitting away with copper to reveal the design. Website: https://hexcorp.com/

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel-starrer ‘500 Days of Summer’ is a hit romantic film, but talk about 500 days of heat in real life, it’s nothing but horror. And ask any woman with slightly heavy breasts, they will tell you the hardship of tackling sweaty boobs in hot and humid weather. So, what exactly is the solution to get rid of underboob sweat? Is there any? Yes, it now exists, a towel that covers just your bosom and absorbs all the sweat. Called the ‘Ta Ta Towels’, the patented product is widely being described as a “hammock for your boobs”. Women across the world have gone euphoric over this quirky and one-of-its-kind product, and there are good reasons behind it.
Its creator, Erin Robertson came up with this bizarre solution to a practical female problem from her own experience. “I was living in Los Angeles and getting ready to go out on a first date. As I got out of the shower and started getting ready, I could not stop sweating — not because I was about to go on a first date, but because my tiny A/C unit was broken AND it was the beginning of summer,” she wrote on the towel’s website. After trying various options to combat the sweating she thought, “There HAS to be a better way to keep the beads of sweat from dripping down my stomach.” And like Robertson, many women around the world felt the same and realised this is what they need, some even said they need 10!
Sure, the ‘boob holder’ looks rather unusual — but if you talk about comfort and the purpose, it seems on point. In fact, breastfeeding mothers can’t stop praising it as it solves leakage problems and the company also claims that it is good on sensitive nipples. Many breastfeeding moms complain about night-time leakage and how this product might solve the problem like magic.
Talking to BabyCenter blog, Robertson said she has received a lot of positive feedback from nursing mothers as well as pregnant women. “Your breasts go through a lot of changes while you’re pregnant (and postpartum), and the Ta-Ta Towel grows with you — and your boobs — to give you support and relief. Since the towels are so thin, you can get away with wearing one under your shirt or maxi dress. As your growing breasts become heavy and sore, a constricting bra is the last thing you want to wear,” she said.
Though many are praising the product, others have slammed it calling it “ugly” and others calling it “pointless” and until it was advertised, they didn’t know that one needs a “towel for under boob sweat”. But this could be because not all women face the problem. And perhaps that’s the reason why it is available in only from a cup C to a cup H. Priced at $45 it has been branded as lounge wear that helps ladies relax at home or basking in the sun. Though the brand claims it has gone global, it’s still not available for shipping to Asian countries.
But one thing for which the company must be lauded is showcasing models who do not abide by the popular body standards often seen in beauty and fashion industry. The brand chose curvy women to don their product and it’s an unusual sight because models with ‘more than an inch to pinch’ are rarely chosen to for lingerie ads.

Earth Is Drowning in 9 Billion Tons of Permanent Pollution Dr. Mercola By Dr. Mercola Plastic is everywhere. Bottled water, grocery bags, shower curtains, garbage cans and kitchen utensils are just a few of the ways plastic has made its way into every aspect of our daily lives. Our throwaway mentality, bred and fed by the mass production of plastics, has created a pollution problem that now threatens the very future of humanity. You likely do not directly experience the impact of the garbage you create while going about day-to-day life. Much of what is produced every day is picked up by a garbage truck and “magically disappears.” But, nothing could be further from the truth, as most garbage is not incinerated or recycled but simply relocated to a landfill or makes its way down storm drains into nearby waterways. Plastic pollution is an enormous worldwide problem. An estimated 4.7 million tons of plastic ends up in our oceans each year where wave action turns them into a plastic soup, damaging sea life and marine ecosystems. Millions of volunteers participate in cleaning the beaches across the world each year, recording the garbage they find.1 Of the top 10 items found on beaches across the world, seven are made from plastic. With an increasing production of plastic and plastic products, this problem is only growing. Roland Geyer, Ph.D., from the University of California at Santa Barbara, led a project to analyze the mass production of plastics. Geyer commented on the team’s focus in the study: “What we are trying to do is to create the foundation for sustainable materials management. Put simply, you can’t manage what you don’t measure, and so we think policy discussions will be more informed and fact based now that we have these numbers.” Plastics Are Polymers From a chemist’s perspective, plastics are polymers. These are extremely long, repetitive molecules primarily made of carbon. But “polymers” are a very broad category that include other compounds such as silicone, from which breast implants and fire retardants are made.2 The shape of the polymer is what gives plastic its flexibility so a product can be molded into any shape. The history of natural polymers dates back before Christ, but it wasn’t until the invention of Bakelite in 1907 that the era of plastics truly began. This was the first synthetic plastic derived from fossil fuel and opened the door to polyester, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and nylon. In an effort to produce machinery and support for World War II, petrochemical companies began turning out plastics by the truckload to be used in military vehicles and radar insulation. By the end of the war in 1945 there was an abundance of plastic manufactured with nowhere to go. Thinking outside the box, producers turned their attention to the consumer, and by 1948 the first Tupperware product hit the market.3 Today there are hundreds of thousands of different polymers being produced that can be used for products from microfiber in your clothing to plastic grocery bags. These plastics have been mass produced since 1950 and have created an environmental problem that will not go away. How Much Is Too Much? Geyer and colleagues published a recent study in Science Advances in which they estimate that since 1950, 8.3 billion metric tons (18.2 trillion pounds) of virgin plastics have been produced.4 This is equivalent in weight to 1 billion elephants5 in plastic that will persist in the environment for at least 1,000 years.6 Another way of picturing the amount of environmental plastic pollution is to imagine the island of Manhattan buried under 2 miles of plastic garbage.7 The researchers estimated that of the 8.3 billion metric tons produced, 6.3 million metric tons are no longer in use. Of this, 9 percent was recycled, 12 percent incinerated and 79 percent left in landfills and other areas of the environment.8 Approximately half of the plastic made since 1950 was manufactured in the last 13 years.9 This speaks to the rate of growth of the plastic industry over the last 60 years. In Los Angeles alone, 10 metric tons of plastic fragments are carried into the Pacific Ocean every day.10 Since plastics don’t biodegrade for at least 500 years, and more conservative estimates are closer to 1,000 years, the environment is in grave danger at the rate of plastic production. The estimate is that 12 billion metric tons of plastics will be in landfills, and will have leaked into the waterways and oceans by 2050.11 Scientists estimate that today between 5 million and 13 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean every year, the primary form of which is microscopic synthetic fibers from clothing. The ocean is currently filled with 165 million tons of plastic.12 Now, a report from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation predicts that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean by weight than there are fish.13 The buildup of plastic is occurring at greater rates in different areas of the oceans. For instance, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch located in the North Pacific Gyre is the largest ocean garbage site in the world, where the floating mass of garbage is twice the size of Texas and plastic pieces outnumber sea life 6-to-1.14 Geyer believes his predicted numbers are higher than others since he includes plastics that are woven into fibers and then flushed into waterways after being washed.15 Approximately 35 percent of plastics produced are for packaging, often used once and then discarded. Plastics in the oceans have been shown to hurt or kill more than 600 species of marine life, including sea turtles, dolphins, sea birds and whales. Nancy Wallace, marine debris program director for the U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration commented:16 "It's a huge amount of material that we're not doing anything about. We're finding plastics everywhere." Ditch the Straws One plastic product you may take for granted, and may not even consider the environmental impact of, is those little plastic straws. They were originally designed to keep your mouth from touching the glass, but today they are more fun than functional. In the U.S. alone, over 500 million straws are used once and discarded every day, or over 180 billion straws each year.17 When straws were first designed, they were made from plant material. Later, paper products were used to manufacture straws and then in the early 1970s, following the explosion of plastic production, the paper straw disappeared. As these little pieces of plastic are not necessary, the amount of pollution they produce — both in landfills and releasing toxins into the air when incinerated — is excessive. Now, a number of campaigns have emerged to help reduce the amount of straws being purchased and used. Some restaurants have stopped automatically putting them in drinks and others are using compostable straws. On a more international level, Bacardi has joined with the Surfrider Foundation to support a “no-straw movement.”18 In the past, Surfrider has led campaigns against discarded cigarette butts and plastic bags. Their new “Straws Suck” campaign has the same focus: clean water, healthy beaches and accessible coastlines.19 Environmental activist David Suzuki writes:20 “Avoiding plastic straws won't save the oceans or the world on its own, but as we've seen with plastic bags and public smoking, when people start thinking about their habits and making small changes, they can bring about shifts in consciousness that lead to wider societal changes. Ordering your drinks without straws is a small sacrifice but a big step to reducing the amount of plastic we produce and waste.” The Lifecycle of Plastic The characteristic that makes plastic valuable to the consumer — near indestructability — is the very factor that makes plastic pollution a blight on the environment. Once in the water, plastic particles act like sponges, absorbing waterborne contaminants such as PCBs, pesticides and other persistent organic pollutants. Those plastic particles are then eaten by fish, who may be eaten by larger fish, before they end up on your table. The concentration of plastics and toxins in marine and freshwater fish will only increase as more virgin plastic is created and disposed of in landfills, oceans and waterways. Scientists estimate that most plastic will take up to 1,000 years before it decomposes.21 Interestingly, plastics don’t truly biodegrade,22 but rather photodegrade after exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Over time the polymer chains crack, which suggests to scientists that the polyethylene bags eventually fragment into microscopic granules.23 However, at this time, researchers aren’t exactly sure how many centuries this may take, estimating between 500 years to 1,000 years based on laboratory testing. In a landfill, plastics get little sunlight before the next layer of garbage is heaped on top. Even organic material may have a difficult time biodegrading in a landfill where garbage is contained by clay and plastic at the bottom and layers of earth on top to reduce the odor.24 This means most of the garbage is exposed to very little light, air or water and even organic based products that readily degrade in your backyard, are more likely to mummify than decompose in a landfill. Some plastic is breaking down quickly in the ocean, at temperatures lower than scientists expected, leaching toxic chemicals into the water threatening marine wildlife.25 A team of researchers from Japan collected water samples from oceans around the world and found derivatives of plastics used in cutlery, DVD cases and Styrofoam. The scientists then simulated the decomposition of polystyrene and found deterioration began at 86 degrees F (30 degrees C), far cooler than previous tests had indicated. Does Recycling Work? Europeans recycle 30 percent of their non-fiber plastics, compared to 25 percent in China and a minor 9 percent in the U.S., and Europeans burn 40 percent as compared to 30 percent in China and 16 percent in the U.S.26 Geyer and his team estimate that the rest of the world recycles and incinerates plastics close to the rate in the U.S. Geyer cautioned that recycling may not be the cure-all others claim, as the goal of recycling is to reduce the amount of virgin plastic produced and to date there is no research analyzing the impact that recycling may have on plastic production. Geyer warns there is not enough information to determine the long-term consequences of this overwhelming pollution. He said:27 "It accumulates so quickly now and doesn't biodegrade, so it gets added to what's already there. Once we start looking, I think we'll find all sorts of unintended consequences. I'd be very surprised to find out that it is purely aesthetic problem." Containers used for milk, shampoos and laundry detergent can be recycled to make new containers, plastic lumber, picnic tables and lawn furniture.28 Plastic bags and plastic wrap can be made into plastic lumber used in park benches, decks and playground furniture. These can also be recycled into plastic bags you use at the grocery store. Plastic bottles may be recycled into more plastic bottles and may be used for insulation in sleeping bags and jackets. Another Look for Recycling Grocery Bags Groups across the country are also using grocery store plastic bags to create plarn, or plastic yarn. This is then crocheted or knitted into sleeping mats donated to homeless shelters. In the news clip above, Bed of Bags founder Sarah Stolberg, explains the objective behind this movement. Each mat, often measuring 3 feet by 6 feet, may save up to 1,000 plastic grocery bags from entering the landfill or oceans, giving someone a place to sleep that is easily rolled and carried, water proof and virtually indestructible. Church groups, schools and other civic organizations have taken on this project to help the needy in their community. Check in your local area for places that may need your plastic grocery bags and you’ll help reduce the load in landfills and help give a homeless person a mat to sleep on. How to Cut Back on Your Garbage The average American produces 4.5 pounds of garbage each day,29 much of which is plastic. You can help reduce the amount of garbage sent to the landfill from your household by following a few simple steps. It's worth remembering that mankind had a zero-waste lifestyle up until about 100 years ago. There were no plastic wraps around the foods and items you bought, and virtually every scrap, whether it was fabric, paper, wood or metal, was repeatedly reused; creatively refashioned into new products. Bottled water may be one of the most environmentally unfriendly industries, creating approximately 500 million bottles discarded every week. Recycling responsibly is a step in the right direction, but it may be more important to reduce the plastics we use first. Plastic water bottles should not be reused as the more they are used, the more toxins leak into the water. Ideally, we need to rethink the throwaway culture that grew from the mass production of plastics and become more sustainable. Purchase products that are not made from or packaged in plastic. Another important point is to choose reusable over single-use, which is possible in most instances. Here are a few ideas: ✓ Use reusable shopping bags for groceries ✓ Take your own leftovers container to restaurants ✓ Bring your own mug for coffee, and bring drinking water from home in glass water bottles instead of buying bottled water ✓ Request no plastic wrap on your newspaper and dry cleaning ✓ Store foods in glass containers or mason jars rather than plastic containers and plastic freezer bags ✓ Avoid disposable utensils and buy foods in bulk when you can ✓ Opt for nondisposable razors, washable feminine hygiene products for women, cloth diapers, handkerchiefs instead of paper tissues, rags in lieu of paper towels, and infant toys made of wood rather than plastic ✓ Avoid processed foods (which are stored in plastic bags with chemicals). Buy fresh produce instead, and forgo the plastic bags ✓ Carry reusable utensils to barbeques, potlucks and takeout restaurants, and encourage your family to as well ✓ Carry your lunch, or pack your child’s lunch, in reusable lunch bags ✓ If you live near the ocean, volunteer at a beach clean up ✓ Talk with your family and friends about the importance of reducing the amount of plastic used
