I like to imagine that after Rain called Payu "Daddy" for the first time, he would just periodically call Payu that anytime Payu got particularly dominant, especially if it's related to school stuff. Like anytime Payu tells him to focus on his homework, a tiny "Yes, daddy," will escape him. It's always unintentional in those moments, but occasionally he'll call Payu "daddy" seductively, and it always works. Then one time, when Payu is spanking him(and Payu only spanks Rain for doing something that will endanger himself physically or his future), Rain whimpers "I'm sorry, Daddy." This gives Payu pause, but only for a second, and he continues to spank Rain, a little bit harder, tightening his grip, spurred on by the responsibility that that honorific gives him. Rain doesn't like the pain, but the feeling of Payu holding him close, knowing that Payu is doing this because he knows it's necessary. Because Payu loves Rain, and wants the best for him. And Rain knows he needs this, knows he needs this firm hand, and wants it with all his heart. He wants Payu to hurt him, to control him. It makes him feel safe. It makes him feel loved.

What I really loved about this was that even though Payu did hold Rain accountable later, he knew that in that moment the best thing was comfort. It was perfect Daddy behavior. Make sure your little one is emotionally stable, and THEN teach or discipline them.

He's trying to keep a bit of a barrier to protect himself while still indulging in this relationship. PhayuRain and the 'Cringe' of Loving

The choice to have a full length song in the uncut version of this episode, sung without accompaniment, is an unusual one in film. Normally we instead see a scene like this ending partway through or it switching from an unaccompanied version to a studio recording. It's a somewhat shocking moment and maybe even to some people watching an overwhelming or cringe-inducing moment.

But to me, I think their performances, the wonderful singing and the choice to do a montage for some portions of the song, all help make this scene work without endless secondhand embarrassment the way it would in others. And a critical part of why the scene works within the larger story is that it's a little cringe.

This is one of those moments that is a pure distillation of their relationship: Phayu is presented as the ultimate cool guy initially in the show but in reality he isn't very cool while Rain is presented as passionate and emotionally clumsy so in this moment, it should be easy for Rain to hurt Phayu. But that's not what happens.

Rain worries about talking too much and being annoying at the start of the show but in scenes like their movie date, we see how Phayu enjoys listening to Rain's rambles and how well Rain responds to sincere and straightforward expressions of love and care from Phayu like when Phayu whispers that he likes Rain in Ep 5 and Rain spends the next day still thinking about it. This is why Rain is the kind of person who really enjoys having a love song sang to him while at the same time getting very overwhelmed as the song continues and he's not allowed to look away without losing.

This all goes to show that Rain isn't after 'cool senior Phayu' or 'hot and powerful mechanic Phayu', even if he finds those personas fun and hot. Cool guy Phayu is the one that Rain raises his chin at in challenge to while sweet and loving to the point of cringe Phayu is the one who overwhelms and supports Rain and makes him feel so confident in himself and his work.

The singing scene is in Phayu's home, just between the two of them, and it's Phayu letting all his nerdy, loser, cringeness out. Instead of Rain making fun of Phayu's cringe or not getting the message of love that Phayu is using this song to convey, the moment instead overwhelms Rain to the point of needing to cover his eyes.

It's a moment that confirms their match.

Within the cool guy showoff between Phayu and Rain, Phayu had a pattern in which he would tease Rain while Rain offered his many reactions. Over the course of the show, this also gives birth to a dynamic where Phayu flusters Rain with his sincere interest.

Both of these strands come together in this moment: Phayu is being sincerely affectionate and instead of being worried about cringe, he's actually using it to tease Rain and it works, Rain gets flustered, so flustered in fact that he has to run away, while Phayu laughs on. He's laid out his entire cringe self, all the cringe of loving another person and it's gone wonderfully. And that is such an important moment in his character arc because it's really the moment that Phayu's needs and goals for a relationship have been realized.

The fact is that when we love someone, we often do things that are more than a bit cringe but the experience of them is anything but specifically because we love them and they love us.

okay not to get all meta-y in the middle of my silly rewatch, but i will say, one thing that consistently bothers me about mame shows is how often they treat sex as being transactional. like there isn't inherently a problem with that, as long as both parties are consenting, but in this case it feels pretty bleak... we have payu telling rain he has to "pay" for the repair work done on his car, when rain is unaware of what kind of payment he means until after the fact. we have, in several different shows, a guy essentially saying "fine, i'll sleep with you to pay you back for (insert favor)" or "i don't like to owe people, therefore i'll (kiss you) (have sex with you) (any number of things)". i know this isn't unique to mame either; it's just something that doesn't totally sit right with me, especially when the story veers more toward the coercion side of things. and it's always under the guise of "oh he's just the kind of guy you can't refuse" or something along those lines. add a line like "being fully clothed doesn't mean nothing happened" in payurain's case (even though nothing did) or, on the extreme side, what honestly amounts to sa in tharntype.... idk. i know i'm probably saying nothing new, and i do try to take mame with a grain of salt, but the vibes really aren't great here 😐😐

The purpose of this post is not say that iQIYI's subs are incorrect. Rather, it is to highlight some of the nuances that, in my opinion, may have been lost in translation. We all know that our baby boy Rain is a brat with penchant for swearing, so him actually saying "fuck me" is more in line with his character and works better in context [1]. In this case, the context is Payu's response — he calls Rain a "naughty boy (เด็กขี้วะ)" and bites his lip in a punishing, albeit playful, manner [2]. This is a callback to one of the established rules in their D/s relationship — no swearing.

Wanted to share this tweet from Mame that she wrote last week. I think this is an important lens with which to analyze the actions of Rain and Payu throughout the series. She is saying that it was “love at first sight” for the both of them. Rain’s actions in particular make so much more sense with that understanding.

I'm super glad that Payu is demanding that Rain use "Pom", call him "P'Payu", and use "khrap", instead of only telling him to not curse, the way Tin did with Can. Because every time Rain uses "Pom", "khrap", and "P'Payu", it's an open act of submission, one which is easier to follow for me than lack of curse words. It might be my favorite thing about this show so far, tbh.

I'll admit I'm curious about what Payu meant when he said he wasn't going to show Rain his "bad side". Did he consider yelling at Rain and spanking him non consensually his "bad side"? Or is there worse to come? After all, he did say, ominously, "You wanna make me love you? But do you know what kind of man I am?"

Sky loves Rain and hanging out with him makes him feel safer, Rain is very outgoing and attracts most attention on him and that allows Sky to be a comfortable observer behind. Just like how when rain falls the sky is hidden by the clouds.

actually it’s a really really interesting metaphor because storm and rain hides the clouds and takes all the attention, just like they chose to develop payurain story first while prapaisky is going on in the background unknowingly.

If it is a conscious decision by the writer then maybe Prapaisky impacts on payurain is actually greater then we think with how the wind sort of.. encourages ? the storm. I hope i’m clear lmao 🥲

Love in the Air: The Symbolism of Sky & Wind. “I think the rain has stopped. I don’t like today’s weather.”

A meta dive into the meaning of Sky and Prapai (Wind) and what this could signify for the characters. A line that really jumped out to me in the pilot trailer is Sky commenting on the sun shining immediately after the rain, and saying he doesn’t like this weather. I found this a very interesting detail.

Let’s start with Prapai. By definition of his namesake ‘wind’, we can immediately connect to the fact that Prapai is a racer, and appears to be someone who lives life hard and fast. Someone who throws themselves into situations with lightning speed, and can get other people caught up in its power. Like the wind, Prapai blasts into Sky’s life out of nowhere, and the two have a whirlwind of a first encounter. The wind is characteristic in his subsequent chasing of Sky, how Prapai embodies a force that follows wherever Sky goes, and collides with the sky repeatedly and unexpectedly.

Sky is much harder to interpret, because the sky tends to be the canvas in which other forms of weather take centre stage. But perhaps this is a purposeful choice in itself. Sky as a character is somewhat mysterious, but appears deceivingly grounded. We already have plenty of clues to tell us there is more to Sky than meets the eye. Sky often allows others to take the fore, to play out their eccentricities whilst he serves as a quiet constant. Sky also makes me think of a state of neutrality and calm - looking to the sky is a similar form of therapy as looking out to sea. We can see this evidenced as Sky has often been the voice of reason for Rain. Whatever weather happens to occur, the sky will always remain before, during and after its spell.

So why does Sky not like the sunshine? The brilliant rays that appear after a bout of gloomy rainfall who most would find reassuring and hopeful? Perhaps Sky feels the sun’s blinding warmth, its ability to eclipse the sky with its very presence. Maybe the sun feels far too cheery and bright, and Sky is in fact far too conscious of the tumultuous shadows that tend to lay in wait shortly after. Perhaps the sky feels it can only perform at its best when there aren’t any extremes in weather, and the elements remain clear and still.

But what happens when Sky and Wind collide? The wind can be unruly at the best of times, a force to be reckoned with and usually untameable. Many would also signify wind with the feeling of freedom, the speed that allows one to feel as if they’re flying untethered. This is probably how Prapai feels when he rides his bike. Possibly the way he navigates through life headfirst without thinking too much. Sky startles when the wind blows into his life and assumes it will simply swirl past him just as quickly as it swept in. But Prapai’s arrival will threaten to sweep him away, rather than leave him behind. Prapai may serve as the catalyst that unravels Sky from his very axes.

And what if the wind is not a chaotic flurry but a billowing breeze? Enough to shake the stillness of the sky but provide a respite in the stuffy atmosphere? What if the sky can convince the wind to slow down its pace, and equally the wind can convince the sky to let go of itself to be free to accompany where the wind goes for a change?

Yes, exactly. And the way Payu looks at his phone for a moment before he calls Rain makes me think he was picking up his phone to see if Rain had texted him, then decided to call when he didn’t have a message or a missed call. They probably talk throughout the day and he got worried when he didn’t have messages after a point in time, and then was full on alarmed when Rain didn’t pickup. That was my interpretation of the scene, anyway.

i just realized payu panicked from the first moment rain wasn’t picking up not because he guessed too quickly something was wrong by being paranoid (like Saifa probably thought when he suggested Rain might have gone home) but because Payu had told Rain on episode 5 to never disappear just like that without notice after Rain ran from Payu’s home and didn’t pick up his calls because he knocked out
