Okay so I would not ask this if it wasn't completely necessary but my dad recently got unjustly fired from his job (his union have already filed a lawsuit but the results of that would take ages) so we're currently short on cash which means I might not be able to enroll this semester (when I'm literally TWO semesters away from graduating 😭) so if anyone of you could help a pal out that would be really awesome.
I'll do my best on the other costs (rent, transportation, food) but it's the tuition fee that's really kicking my ass rn. That's 24,630.50 Philippine Pesos (or around 432.04 US dollars currently), which i can't get that quickly given that classes start this September. Any form of help, no matter how big or small, would be really appreciated.

zenmarket accepts gcash? and paymaya? woah I did not expect that. I wonder how many of their customers live in the philippines that they'd think to offer these as payment gateways
#mine musings#it's still pricier though because they take 5% of the deposit compared to 3.5% for paypal#but still i'm surprised!!! i usually don't see these offered outside ph#anyway if anyone is looking for a proxy shipping site from japan. zendesk is pretty good. i used their services already in the past#there's also buyee i guess but i kinda prefer zenmarket#for korea i used paysable before so i can vouch for that one as well

i wish Gcash got better [ig its a more positive and optimistic way of saying Gcash is a dogshit service]
it has a TON of issues and r/Philippines has already enumerated a ton of it
ill start tho by saying that it being totally unusable unless in its latest version is kinda justified for security reasons (although other apps like Shopee which also handles money over the internet does not need to be updated often so they probably dont have a really good reason for this)
besides those:
1. (most important one) THE APP LOADS SLOWLY AT TIMES THAT IT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE YOU WERE UNDER POOR INTERNET CONNECTION BUT YOU WERENT (I noticed this personally under smart mobile data and smart homebro wifi)
2. Filled with ads and other annoying pop-ups (the tutorial always shows up every time you log in)
3. Invasive permissions that are for the most part useless
3.1 You cant use Gcash if you have developer options on
4. frequent outages
5. Getting verified (at least as a minor) is so convoluted and non-straightforward that you will notice how drastically different the working process is as prescribed by youtube tutorial channels [so far i think(?) they tell you to interact with customer support] from the one youre supposed to follow
5.1. Gcash's own process refers you to eventually resubmit documents to a place THAT DOESNT EXIST essentially blocking you from completing the process (so it has dogshit UI and unreliable help section)
6. Creating an account is easy but deleting an account that doesn't even have a transaction history needs you to disclose your personal information via the verification process
7. Verification is needed to use the app in external apps (previously this wasnt a thing not to mention the weird exemptions to this that thankfully made me able to load up my steam wallet)
and lastly
8. Transaction fees for everything
8.1. this: (op for some reason didnt censor their phone number)
Being mad over those who staff Gcash's customer services, networking and others kinda doesnt give the overall bad service justice, ig Globe is so accustomed to being a telecommunications oligopoly that when they venture to e-wallets theyre blind to how bad the service has turned out
Also kinda wondering how other services compare like Paymaya

Philippines is a country in Southeast Asia with a population of 110 million, and a rapidly growing economy with a current GDP of USD 440 billion. The country has a young and tech-savvy population, deep into gaming, and has a global crypto adoption index rank of #2 as per Chainalysis 2022 index.
The penetration of credit cards in the country is low at less than 8% with only 8.6 million credit & charge cards in circulation. While debit cards are more in number, they are primarily used for cash withdrawal or utility purchases. Either of these is unsuited for digital assets onramp and offramp in the country
By contrast, alternate payment methods are much more popular in the Philippines with GCash, Instapay, ShopeePay and PayMaya widely prevalent across the local population. GCash is an all-in-app and the most popular payment method in the country with over 30 million users, nearly 4-times those that use credit cards.
TransFi is focused on fiat-to-crypto onramp and offramp in emerging markets, in particular Asia, with the widest suite of local payment methods in local currencies, 80%+ conversion rates, and with low fees. An integration with TransFi enables exchanges, wallets and DeFi protocols to offer their users the ability to buy and sell crypto with all the popular payment methods in the Philippines including GCash, PayMaya, Shopeepay, and local banks

The Key Features for POS Software in Retail Business in the Philippines 2023-24
In the dynamic landscape of the retail industry, Point of Sale (POS) software plays a pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and overall business success. As we step into 2023-24, the retail businesses in the Philippines are experiencing significant transformations, with technology at the forefront. To stay competitive and meet the evolving needs of both retailers and consumers, it's crucial to adopt POS software with advanced features tailored to the local market. In this blog, we will explore the key features that will be essential for POS software in the retail business in the Philippines in the coming year.
1. Localization for the Philippine Market
To cater to the unique demands of the Filipino market, it's imperative for POS software to offer localization features. This includes support for the Philippine peso (PHP), tax regulations, and compliance with local business practices. Retailers should look for software that provides customizable receipt formats to accommodate the specific requirements of the Philippines, such as BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) compliance.
2. Cloud-Based Solutions
The adoption of cloud-based POS software has been on the rise globally, and the Philippines is no exception. Cloud-based solutions offer real-time data accessibility, remote management, and scalability. Retailers can access sales data, inventory information, and customer data from anywhere, facilitating better decision-making and seamless business operations. This feature is especially beneficial for businesses with multiple locations.
3. Mobile POS Integration
Mobile POS integration allows retailers to serve customers more efficiently by enabling sales associates to complete transactions from anywhere in the store. In 2023-24, Filipino retailers should prioritize POS software that supports mobile devices like tablets and smartphones. This feature not only speeds up the checkout process but also enhances customer engagement on the sales floor.
4. Inventory Management
Effective inventory management is a critical aspect of retail business success. POS software should offer advanced inventory tracking capabilities, including real-time stock updates, automated reordering, and the ability to manage multiple suppliers. This helps retailers minimize stockouts, reduce excess inventory, and improve overall profitability.
5. Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
In the competitive retail landscape, building and maintaining strong customer relationships is essential. Modern POS software should include CRM features that enable retailers to collect and analyze customer data, such as purchase history and preferences. This data can be used to create targeted marketing campaigns and loyalty programs to enhance customer retention.
6. Multi-Store Management
For retail chains and businesses with multiple locations, multi-store management features are indispensable. This includes centralized control over inventory, pricing, and promotions across all stores. Additionally, it should allow for consolidated reporting and analytics to gain insights into overall business performance.
7. E-commerce Integration
In the era of omnichannel retailing, the integration of online and offline sales channels is crucial. Retailers should seek POS software that seamlessly integrates with e-commerce platforms. This integration enables a unified view of inventory, orders, and customer data, providing a consistent shopping experience for customers whether they shop in-store or online.
8. Payment Options
To cater to the diverse payment preferences of customers, POS system should support various payment methods, including credit cards, mobile wallets, and digital payment options specific to the Philippines, such as GCash and PayMaya. Furthermore, ensuring secure and PCI-compliant payment processing is paramount to protect customer data.
9. Analytics and Reporting
Data-driven decision-making is becoming increasingly important in the retail industry. Advanced analytics and reporting features in POS system provide retailers with valuable insights into sales trends, customer behavior, and inventory performance. Retailers can use these insights to optimize pricing, marketing strategies, and inventory management.
10. User-Friendly Interface
Ease of use is a fundamental aspect of any POS softwares. Retail employees should be able to quickly learn and navigate the system to provide efficient customer service. A user-friendly interface reduces training time, minimizes errors, and enhances overall productivity.
11. Security
As cyber threats continue to evolve, retail businesses need robust security features in their POS software. This includes data encryption, user authentication, and regular software updates to patch vulnerabilities. Ensuring the security of customer and financial data is non-negotiable.
12. Customer Support and Training
Excellent customer support and training options are essential for retailers adopting new POS software. Look for software providers that offer comprehensive training resources and 24/7 customer support to address any issues promptly.
13. Scalability
Retail businesses should invest in POS software that can grow with them. Scalability is crucial for accommodating expansion, whether opening new stores or diversifying into different retail sectors.
14. Compliance with Regulatory Changes
The retail industry in the Philippines is subject to regulatory changes and updates. Ensure that the chosen POS software provider commits to keeping the system compliant with new regulations and industry standards.
15. Customization and Integration
Lastly, POS software should be customizable to meet the unique needs of your retail business. It should also have the capability to integrate with third-party applications, such as accounting software or marketing tools, to streamline operations.
In conclusion, as the retail landscape in the Philippines evolves in 2023-24, it's imperative for businesses to adopt POS software that offers a comprehensive set of features to stay competitive and meet customer expectations. Choosing the right POS software in Philippines with localization, cloud capabilities, mobile integration, and robust inventory and CRM features can set your retail business on a path to success in the coming years. Investing in technology that supports growth, efficiency, and customer satisfaction will undoubtedly pay off in the highly competitive retail market of the Philippines.

Banks are losing billions amid the growing adoption of mobile wallets
Globally, consumer adoption of mobile wallets is surging at a rapid rate. The space of digital wallets is getting dominated by innovative fintech firms. The growth for mobile wallet providers is coming at the expense of credit cards and other traditional payments option. According to industry estimates, such changes in consumer payment preferences will put up to US$27.5-US$36 billion of revenue at risk for banks from 2023 to 2025 in the US.
The change in consumer preference is a major threat to card-issuing banks as they would give away more volume and market share to innovative fintech firms and big tech giants such as Apple. Among the major factors that are driving the adoption of mobile wallets among consumers is the desire to pay lower interest and flexibility. This, coupled with greater convenience and control, is resulting in revenue loss for banking institutions.
For banks, credit cards are a high-value proposition and many leading institutions make a significant amount of money through their credit card offerings. With card volumes going away into other relevant payment types, including mobile wallets, BNPL, and debit cards, the credit card value creation for banks is getting challenged by fintech firms and tech giants.
In the current macroeconomic environment, where interest rates are rising and the cost of living is surging, PayNXT360 projects many more consumers across the world to give up their high-interest credit card usage in exchange for other low-cost options such as prepaid cards and mobile wallets.
In the global market, digital wallet growth is largely bypassing banks. However, some banking institutions have argued that the underlying payment method associated with digital wallets is a card, and therefore, card issuers still book the volume. But this is not always the case. Many digital wallets, especially in Southeast Asia, have allowed consumers to load their prepaid payment instruments through kiosks and department stores. PayMaya, the Philippines-based mobile wallet, is a prime example of this.
Such business models are projected to grow further over the next three to four years, as fintech firms seek to create an ecosystem, excluding banks, for serving unbanked individuals globally. Furthermore, mobile wallets are not only serving the purpose of payments anymore. Innovative fintech firms are moving beyond the conventional business model and are seeking to integrate more and more features into their wallet offerings. Mobile wallets, for instance, are now also capable of holding boarding passes, admission tickets, and other crucial documents. Samsung and PayPal are an example of such mobile wallets.
With fintech firms and digital wallet providers gaining significant ground on banking institutions, banks must move beyond conventional payment methods as well. Some banks have started to roll out their BNPL offerings, as part of their strategy to acquire consumers that are seeking low-cost financing options. To compete with digital wallets, banking firms can also partner to develop a shared mobile payment service.
In Ireland, for instance, a group of top banking institutions partnered to set up an instant money transfer service. The group invested €5.9 million initially to take the competition to digital wallet providers such as Revolut, Monzo, and N26 in Europe.
Going forward, as digital wallets continue to take away the market share from traditional banking institutions, PayNXT360 expects more such strategic collaborations from the short to medium-term perspective. Furthermore, as banking institutions continue to lose a significant chunk of revenue to digital wallet providers, these firms are also asking authorities to regulate the space, in the region where they are not, to develop more transparency in the sector. For instance,
In Australia, digital wallets such as Apple Pay are not regulated, which makes it difficult for the central bank to take action against the payment method that is continuing to grow at a rapid rate. The payment method now accounts for 25% of all card transactions, which is significantly higher compared to 10% in March 2020.
In Australia, banks are paying over A$110 million in fees to Apple due to growing digital wallet transactions each year. This again shows that even though the underlying payment method is often a card, as is the case with Apple Pay, banks are continuing to lose significant revenue globally. Consequently, to avoid a significant revenue loss, it is crucial for banking institutions to explore next-generation payment channels and devise competitive strategies to counter the growing shift towards mobile wallets.
