Happy birthday to Warlord Pavium!
Today is his -502nd birthday!
Pavium "the Unbreakable" joined the Banished with his younger brother, Voridus, after the fall of the Covenant. He was sent on a salvage mission to the Flood-infested High Charity with Voridus by Atriox. The two were met by resistance from the Flood and discovered and destroyed a proto-Gravemind that formed in High Charity's remains.
Pavuim was also present for the Battle of Epsilon Clarion, a conflict on the Ark between the Keepers of the One Freedom, the UNSC, the Banished, and Dhas Bhasvod's Covenant loyalists. Pavium assisted Banished forces in stopping Bhasvod and the Keepers from activating the Halo rings from the Ark.
In canon (~2560), he is turning 34!

Do we want to know what Atriox is up to?
Not really!
Do we care about Voridus and Pavium?
Who?
Why do Cutter and Anders look like that?
Doesn't matter!
Are we gonna play it anyway?
YEAH!!!
About a month ago I was (rightfully) complaining about how I own a digital copy of Halo Wars 2 that I started playing on my Xbox One and never finished. The digital copy is supposed to be playable on my PC but won't even download bc I haven't activated Windows. The game that I OWN, that is completely playable on my PC, won't download bc Microsoft is being a little bitch.
Well, last weekend I went on a secret mission (visited my family) and performed a rescue operation (put my shit in a box) and am GOING TO PLAY HALO WARS 2.

The Incident.
Master Chief with The Arbiter: *phone rings* Hold on a minute, I got to take this *answers phone* Hello?
Samus on the other line: What did you do?
Master Chief: Alright... But you can't be mad at me.
Samus: What did you do?
Master Chief: Ok first, I was minding my own business.
Samus: BULLSHIT!
Master Chief: I WAS!!!
Samus: And what exactly happened, whilst you were minding your own business?!
Master Chief: So I was just chillaxing in ny room like a baller, & all of a sudden these schmucks kick in my door.
Master Chief: One of them yelled out-
Voridus: "Get on your knees!"
Master Chief: And I responded with, "I'm not your mother last night!" And they took exception to that, but you know how that song & dance goes.
Master Chief: And I killed all but one of them.
Samus: What happened to the last one?
Master Chief: Wussed out like a bitch, silverlining *Sees trays of food outside his room* I can cancel my room service.
*Banished base*
Decimus: So...we've sent like 10 guys up there, & we haven't heard back, you think everything's alright?
Atriox: Don't worry about it, everything's fine.
Decimus: Well no matter what, we're still gonna get our payment right?
Atriox: Decimus, do I look likt the kind of guy that would back out of an agreement... By the way you may want to send more men.
Decimus... Well that sounds reasonable.
Master Chief making Chili: So... It's been real quiet for about 5 minutes...
Samus:
Master Chief: Oh I know why you're angry... It's because I went to Brazil isn't it?

Okay, so after playing a bit more:
Cutter:
ODSTs do not, in fact, get slaughtered if you utilize them properly. Their det packs still aren’t as strong as I remember them, but they’re still good for choke points.
They still need a shield (preferably a tank) to help them.
Forge: Too slow to be fun. Grizzlies are cool tho. Forge Hog is basically how I remember it after the nerf, so good to see they didn’t give him the hammer.
Anders: Meh. Fall from grace on that one. Still can be hard to kill, but player has to be really good.
Isabel: Meh. Tank and Nightingale spam.
Kinsano: Cutter for people who like to burn things. Imo, better than Cutter. Just wish her final drop added a single ODST squad for lore reasons.
Jerome: Oh, how they slaughtered my boy. At least Mastodons are still cool. Somehow beats Kinsano
Johnson: I still say he shouldn’t have been in this game and that mechs should’ve gone to Isabel. Cool hero unit (it’s Johnson. He’s always cool.) Mediocre, as he was before. If I could change him, I’d swap Mech focus with Isa’s tank focus. Pelicans are cool. Steel Talons come to Halo.
Serina: She seems really ineffective on her own. Kind of gimmicky. Kinsano for people who fantasize about freezing people to death. Also good for those who like Frozen.
Shipmaster: Okay, so I just figured skipping fights was an option. If you can’t be bothered with an enemy at that exact second, just move them somewhere else, Patrick Star style. Getting to late game is the hard part. I don’t have much good to say about him except that he can easily dodge the active leader powers that kill units. I played one single 3 hour game with him vs 2 Heroic and a Legendary AI.
Arbiter: Too OP. Kind of fun? Conduit of Rage. Phantoms- 2 Enforcers+1 Hunter. Preferable to Shipmaster, but only because his voice doesn’t sound like a chalkboard being run over by a train.
Colony: Too OP to be fun. Hunter Captain. Devastating Host. Combat Repair. Mostly Hunter Captain.
Voridus: Your base has been erased. Infusion slightly OP, but not in need of a nerf or anything (as contradictory as that seems)
Pavium: Boring.
YapYap: Strangely overpowered in both directions. On one hand, I got slaughtered by the AI. On the other, I slaughtered the AI with him. Kinda amusing.
Decimus: This is the free win leader. Banshees don’t care about your army of anti air.
Atriox: He’s okay. Far from worst. Far from best. A lot of meh abilities ended with two great ones. The hero unit is pretty good.
I’d say my top picks, in order:
Kinsano
Arbiter
Shipmaster
Cutter
Colony
Do note that I DO like Johnson… except for him having the Mantis. Maybe I just don’t like the Mantis. He’s a weird one to rate, so I’ll put him as a “maybe” on this list between Cutter and Colony
Forge, Colony, and Arbiter seem to be new top 3 leaders in Halo Wars 2 for me.
Dunno what they did to Jerome since I’ve been gone, but he seems to have been massively nerfed since then.
Cutter is still okay. Just doesn’t scale well late game. ODSTs seem to get slaughtered when dropped right on top of enemies for some reason.

HALO WARS 2 AWAKENING THE NIGHTMARE REVIEW
.
Originally published on KeenGamer on 02/10/2017. Added here for completion.
The flood are back and more creepy than ever in the new expansion for Halo Wars 2. Featuring a new campaign from the perspective of the Banished, two new leaders, two new multiplayer maps and a brand new mode firefight terminus.
With the season pass content now over 343 have the audacity to release a separately paid expansion less than a month later! Forum room drama aside Awakening the Nightmare offers those willing to overlook the drama associated with the content an exciting new mix of single player and multiplayer goodness all in one package. Of course, the most exciting aspect of the content is the reintroduction of the Flood an iconic Halo adversary that has been far too long absent from the series. STORYThe story picks up after the events of Halo Wars 2 but from the perspective of the Banished rather than the UNSC. Straight away we are introduced to two brand new brutes Voridus and Pavium a pair of brothers looking to prove themselves to Atriox. We join them as they are being sent out on a salvage run to High Charity, Halo veterans will remember that the Covenant capital was taken over by the Flood in Halo 2 and later crashed onto the Ark in Halo 3. Supposedly all the Flood were wiped out and not believing in the rumours and legends Voridus cuts his way into the ship and awakens the ancient threat. The story never really develops beyond that point and follows a relatively straightforward narrative. You will follow Voridus and Pavium from the point of release to the inevitable fightback and conclusion. It's certainly entertaining if just a little uninspired but the dynamic of Voridus and Pavium being brothers does get some decent development throughout the 5 missions. We get to see more of the Banished and even a bit more of its leader Atriox although the role he plays is very small. Apart from a brief encounter with them on the first mission the crew of the Spirit of Fire are noticeably absent, with the threat of the Flood being released on the Ark and considering their history with the Flood from the events of the first Halo Wars game their absence from the expansion seems a little odd. But what the story sets out to achieve it does so. As with the main campaign, much of the story is focused on the actual tactics at play rather than finding out more about the flood or honing in on more character development for example. There are some brief cutscenes but most of the story is presented during the mission loading screens and via dialogue during missions. Those keen on finding out more can collect Phoenix logs to read from the campaign main menu. There are some genuinely interesting stories hidden within them such as a Brute captains final moments before being completely overwhelmed by the Flood... By the end of the expansion, it just about manages to be satisfying and does have a predictable but decent conclusion. However, as with the main game, it does end rather abruptly it feels like there needs to be more of a cooldown period before the credits roll. While the ending is satisfying there are aspects of it left very open-ended, the Flood are defeated but could easily be brought back and the ultimate fate of Voridus and Pavium is left completely in the air. GAMEPLAYThis is an area of the game in which the expansion well and truly shines. Of course, the biggest and most obvious addition to the gameplay is the Flood who come in a variety of different forms that well and truly mix up the gameplay. Infection forms, for example, will swarm your units and bases, let them get too close and they easily infect your infantry units turning them against you in battle, if you're not careful they can even infect your vehicles and air units. These infection forms require you to be constantly on the ball as a swarm of them can easily overrun your units and defences should you not be paying attention. They can also travel over any surface so they can scale cliffs and come at you from every angle. In addition to infection forms, there are combat forms, units that have been taken over by the flood and so take the shape of your infantry, vehicles and air units and in some situations, they have taken over UNSC units as well. There are also pure forms, such as tentacles that pop out of the ground and the towering juggernaut that acts as a Flood super unit buffing any units around it. The overwhelming nature of the Flood has truly been nailed here on one mission you'll be tasked with a fighting retreat where on the higher difficulties you'll be fighting for every inch of land in a desperate fight for survival, another mission has you having to do hit and run tactics to gain power while massive Flood bases attack your main base in ever increasing powerful waves. Do you risk keeping your troops out in the field to gain more power and leave your base vulnerable or focus on defence but risk an increase in the frequency and power of flood attacks? Another mission has you have no base building capabilities at all forcing you to make clever use of your available units and resources to complete the level in one piece. In conclusion, each of the 5 missions has something unique and exciting about it and each can take 40+ minutes to complete so there is some decent content to get through. Voridus and Pavium act as your hero units throughout the campaign and so their unique abilities and new units act an extra mix to the gameplay. This is, however, very limited and restricted throughout the campaign and so the gameplay mostly focuses on traditional Banished units and structures. The two brothers do however act as two new separate leaders so can be played in multiplayer, blitz and the new terminus firefight. Voridus focusses on rush tactics making use of a new mechanic infusion whilst Pavium has a far more defensive style that focuses on defensive tactics and economy building. Both leaders act as great additions to the now massive leader roster but do mix things up less so than other leaders have in the past. Grab a buddy and play as the two brothers together in 2v2 for a devastating combo of attack and defence. A new mode terminus firefight tasks you with defending a terminus from ever increasing powerful waves of Banished, UNSC and Flood forces. The mode can be played single player or cooperatively with 1 or 2 other players. The mode can be played with any leader so there is a tonne of variety in the way you choose to defend. Expanding to gain new bases increases your population count and opens up new turret slots, defensive walls can also be built to block, slow and damage. It's a very fun mode which is equally challenging as it is rewarding and there is always that constant drive to increase your score or make it to a higher wave. There are also two new multiplayer maps available to all players not just purchasers of Awakening the Nightmare. The maps of Halo Wars 2 are one of its weaker aspects and the two new ones do little to change this acting as variations on whats come before but they still add more variety and so are still a welcome addition nevertheless. GRAPHICS AND AUDIOGraphics and audio wise its yet again the Flood that will be adding the most variety. From their grotesque visual design to chilling screams they make this campaign feel very different and distinct from what came before it in the main Halo Wars 2 campaign. Elsewhere the game looks and sounds the same as ever which for the most part is great. The design of the levels themselves is a little disappointing however what you see is nothing new from the rest of the game, this could have been a great opportunity to add some visual and audio variety such as a snow area or swamp. Instead, we get the very familiar pine forest environment for the most part and a not so visually exciting Forerunner segment. Even the two new multiplayer maps and terminus firefight map do nothing new here, which is frankly pretty disappointing. Voice acting wise Pavium and Voridus sound great, you'll be hearing from them a lot so thankfully the voice acting is of a decent quality. As with the main game, there will be times when you get treated to a Blur cinematic. This cinematics are of the highest quality as ever the folks over at Blur really know their Halo and so offer up yet another audio and visual treat for the senses but in total only about 5 minutes of cinematics are on display here. The expansion features a new soundtrack around 30 minutes of new suitably themed tunes to keep you immersed in the heat of the action. It serves its purpose well within the campaign but doesn't feature anything particularly memorable or special. CONCLUSION Where it matters most Awakening the Nightmare well and truly delivers and that's in the gameplay department. Fighting against the Flood in the campaign is undeniably great fun with each level offering something unique and new. For those brave enough Legendary offers a very distinct challenge. Elsewhere the new leaders make a fine addition to the multiplayer modes whilst terminus firefight offers a fun new PvE way to enjoy the game solo or with others. Story-wise it's very safe and by the books but this doesn't stop it from being enjoyable. It is, after all, a side story and not intended to be a direct sequel to the events of Halo Wars 2 or tie in with the rest of the Halo universe in any great way. That said there is potential for something far greater here and we'll have to wait and see if the events from the expansion are ever explored again. Audio and visually there is very little to be talked about but one can only wish more had been done here rather than just rely on the Flood units for more visual and audio variety. Overall the expansion is a great addition to the game for all the players that take their Halo seriously but even casual players have plenty to sink their teeth into. Personally, for the price, I think the expansion offers plenty and so is good value but for players who don't play much multiplayer the price to simply play the new story missions may not be worth it. Hopefully, this expansion will pave the way for more combinations of multiplayer and single player Halo content in the future.

Happy birthday to Let 'Volir!
Today is his -453rd birthday!
'Volir served the Covenant as commander of the assault carrier Enduring Conviction. During the Great Schism, he joined the ex-Covenant Sangheili ranks against the Prophet of Truth and the Jiralhanae. After the war's end, he was not interested in joining the warring factions that began to spring up, and continued on with the independent Fleet of Recalcitrant Ire.
The fleet was attacked by the Banished, and 'Volir was tricked into taking Atriox captive, only to become a captive himself. Atriox offered 'Volir a chance to join the Banished as a mercenary, and, with no chance of killing Atriox and an already-wavering belief in the Covenant separatist faith, he agreed.
While serving as a mercenary for a Jiralhanae tarnished his name with the Sangheili, 'Volir took the view that he did what he had to do to ensure his crew's survival, though he took no pleasure in it.
Atriox ordered 'Volir and the Enduring Conviction to the Ark, where he destroyed the Henry Lamb Research Outpost during the Banished's fight for control of the installation, a slaughter he did not celebrate. When the Spirit of Fire arrived four months later, he participated in the unsuccessful battle against the UNSC.
After Red Team destroyed Enduring Conviction, 'Volir's attitude towards the Banished changed. He took responsibility for his remaining crew and Banished forces, now a true devotee of Atriox rather than just a sellsword. He was given the chance to redeem himself by taking on the UNSC one last time so that Atriox could enter the portal on the Ark and return to the Milky Way. He was able to push the UNSC back enough to allow Atriox through the portal.
Atriox left 'Volir in charge of the Banished forces on the Ark, to the dismay of the other Jiralhanae warmasters, a title he still holds. However, he does not have the loyalty of the forces, with Castor deceiving him and Pavium and Voridus pursuing the Keepers and Covenant remnants against his orders.
In canon (~2560), he is turning 83!

One criticism I’ve seen of Halo Wars 2 is the absurd amount of leaders causing balancing issues and a lack of maps. This is fair enough. I kind of agree.
In that spirit, I have a solution. Each side gets 5-6 leaders, and some leaders are changed. So this is basically a list of what I would’ve wanted from the game. Take note- I love what we got.
The UNSC keeps these:
Cutter
Spartan (I’ll explain)
Isabel
Anders
Forge
The Banished have these:
Colony
Shipmaster
Atriox
Pavium
Thel Vadam
So here’s how we rebalance this. Some things will be cut, of course, but others will be added onto the leaders. For starters, unique units like the Mastodon and Phantom won’t be leader powers. They’ll just be there by default
Cutter: Cyclops Drop is buffed by turning it into the ODST Drop (3 ODST squads+a Cyclops). It can be upgraded to Firestorm Assault Group for an extra leader point at T4. So it is a 2 for 1 deal.
Turret Drop gets 2 normal turrets and a siege turret. ODST Assault Battalion is buffed by turning one of the ODST squads into Sunray 1-1.
As Cutter is already a little weak as far as leaders go, I think this would come as a welcome change. Especially late game.
Forge: Unchanged. He doesn’t need it. He was already OP and is balanced now.
Isabel: She gets Johnson’s mechs to replace her Warthogs and Scorpions. In that spirit, her shielded Scorpions will be relegated elsewhere.
Anders: Protector Sentinels are unlocked by default. Sentinel Beacon is made a T4 upgrade rather than a passive leader point upgrade. She also gets CryoTech Advances as a T2 upgrade in the lab.
With two saved points, Anders gets Serina’s Cryo Bomb and Cryo Drop. Lotus Mines are replaced with Ice Barrier.
Serina’s Ice Cream Truck (sometimes referred to as the UNSC Bison), is nerfed a bit and made into a normal vehicle exclusive to Anders, potentially a replacement for the Warthog.
Hellbringers are replaced with CryoTroopers. The Nightingale gains an upgrade that gives it the FrostRaven’s gun.
The Spartan Leader-
Now this one is a bit different. I want it noted that I like Jerome, so keep that in mind. However, there is lost potential here. I see some possibilities.
Jerome: Unchanged and just as we saw him, though with the Mastodon unlocked by default and replaced on the power wheel by Kinsano’s Heat of Battle.
The Master Chief, John 117: You guys knew it was coming.
Omega Drop stays.
Field Promotion is replaced with Blue Team Drop. That’s right. Two Spartan Drops as the final leader powers.
Hero Unit is himself. One of his hero upgrades causes enemies to miss shots more often and make third faction enemies (Sentinels) prefer to attack second faction hostile units
Isabel’s “Best Offense” power is given as a late game tech upgrade.
A single Spartan 4 can be dropped, replacing Enduring Salvo.
Mastodon still remains unlocked by default. Instead of Heat of Battle, Chief’s units would get Battle Hardened (which Cutter also has).
Marines gain a late game upgrade that adds a Spartan 3 to their fireteam. This Spartan would be wearing SPI, so no shield, but can cloak
Keep in mind, this is going to absolutely destroy your chances of having a high population. So if you like having a lot of vehicles… sorry, you’re out of luck lol.
Now for the aliens. You’ll see why I didn’t say Banished.
Atriox: Spirit Assault is replaced with Decimus’ Boundless Fury
Teleport is replaced with Decimus Drop.
Shipmaster: Banished Raid is made into an upgrade throughout the game, being replaced by Decimus’ Siphon.
Spirit Support is buffed to also be Spirit Assault 3, which Atriox has.
He can train a second Honor Guard.
Pavium: Mostly unchanged, though Voridus can also be trained as a second hero if Pavium is already trained. Pavium can be upgraded to have 2 Brute Grenadiers covering him.
Pavium was already pretty good. This just cuts a lot of Voridus’ stuff, which imo was unnecessary and didn’t add much to gameplay.
Wraith Invader is
Colony: Hands down my favorite Banished leader.
Skitterer is unlocked by default, being replaced by Grunt Dome.
YapYap’s Shade Drop is added to Devastating Host.
Goliaths get a bit of a buff. Just a bit.
Thel Vadam-
Hero unit: himself. Equipped with a Covenant Carbine for ranged attacks and the Prophet’s Bane when he closes in. Y Ability is to call in a Phantom, like Jerome’s Mantis. Final hero upgrade causes him to get back up after one death.
He gets Spirits as transport vehicles by default
The Marauder is replaced with the Specter, which does more damage to infantry but less to vehicles. About on par with the Warthog. It can be upgraded to have two Elites with FRGs on the sides, which would help it beat light vehicles.
The Scarab is replaced with the Halo 2 or 3 era one.
Grunt Squads can be upgraded to have a Grunt Heavy.
Elite Rangers can be upgraded to have Needle Rifles and a stealth ability. An Enforcer can be added as a final upgrade.
For leader powers-
1- Digging In (transferred from Johnson)
2- Lich Transport
Brings in a Lich to transport units. Basically Pelican Transport with the giant beam gun.
3- Plasma Bolt
4- Conduit of Rage
5- Support Treaty
Several UNSC units (Marines, Warthogs, and Hornets) drop down to support the Arbiter
6- Glassing Beam
7- Johnson Drop
Drops Johnson in his mech
8- Mass Cloaking
9- Grunt Goblin Drop
Drops 3 Grunt Goblins down as heroes. Two with Needlers, one with the Scarab Gun
10- Spec Ops Drop
Drops down Rtas, N’thro, and S’raom as heroes, like Omega Team. Phantom Gunships patrol the area for awhile while they’re there.
Obviously none of this will happen because support for the game was pulled like 4 years ago, but… maybe mod community will see this and have ideas.

I might be missing something (like your personal interpretation of Gaara) but isn't Gaara's tattoo canonically the Japanese word for "love"? not the Chinese one (though they do look very similar).
I learned the traditional writing system, not simplified, and some of the same kanji is used in japanese
