He truly went from "might bite if threatened" at the beginning of the run, through "will definitely bite if unguarded" in the middle of the run, to the saddest, wet-eyed, most traumatized blorbo at the production closing. And I truly love that for him.

Pavel Klimenda confessing at the JCS stagedoor that he almost missed his curtain call cue because he was washing off all the fake blood he had on himself and apologizing that he didn't manage to clean all of it off while he looks as if not a single spec of it remained on him is so wholesome, but at the same time so funny

(Thank you @sarcasticdolphin for mentioning me)
Hi @whatthefuckbenj ! So excited (as I always am whenever someone is interested in the Czech production, aka my beloved) you want to know more about this version! You can find a lot of my posts on the production under #elisabeth plzeň, mainly my fanarts and photo compilations from the production's 60 performance run, of which I saw 4.
The main thing with Smrt/Czech Tod is that (as @sarcasticdolphin already pointed out), he kills on touch. Which within the production surprisingly worked extremely well, since as a result, Smrt was very angsty and touch starved. And also, his costume is very epic:
Tumblr media
A big thing for this production's Smrt and Rudolf was that there were two Smrt actors and two Rudolf actors and I think each of the actors was very much encouraged to create their own unique spin on their character and as a result, very interesting dynamics were created between the characters depending on the casts. But, I think that when both me and OP write Smrtolf, we primarily reference the Smrt and Rudolf combo of Pavel Režný (the more feelsy and angsty Smrt) and Pavel Klimenda (the most traumatized gentle soul of a Rudolf I've ever seen), who were the de facto main Smrtolf duo.
I must mention that within the production itself, the dynamic Smrt and Rudolf have isn't really seductive or sexual in any way, since (spoilers) they don't kiss at the end of Mayerling. Rather than that, the overall vibe they have is that they are more like companions, who are equally scared and pulled towards one another due to the lack of companionship they have encountered so far.
But other than the most obvious difference of Smrt killing on touch, I think the Smrtolf stuff can be read without knowing much about the Czech Elisabeth production, since a lot of things that apply for Todolf apply here, except exchange all the must not kiss stuff to must not touch stuff. :)
Also, for maybe beginner friendly Smrtolf, you can check out my current WiP A Blanket of Feathers, which is a series of interwoven ficlets that document the dynamic between Smrt and Rudolf starting from their first meeting in Mama, wo bist du? with trying to keep as much detail from the Czech production itself intact with added tiny historical details.
And if you'd like a ficlet to get more of a feel for Smrt, you can check out Only I Choose What Music Has To Play, which is based on the Czech staging of Wenn ich tanzen will and can be read as a sort of prequel to Blanket.
Hey there, I'd love to read your Smrtolf fics but can hardly find anything on the Czech version. So I thought I'd ask you :)
So in absolute simplest/most relevant to the drabbles I write terms, the big difference between the Czech versions and most other versions is that Smrt (Tod) kills with a touch instead of a kiss (I mean I still make Smrt and Rudolf kiss, but Smrt only needs a touch to kill).
For more detail, I highly recommend you check out @adridoesstuff 's blog - she's made some detailed posts on and reviews about the Czech version that explain it very well. I get my information on the Czech production from her.

No thoughts today, just this photo of Pavel Klimenda that is the perfect reaction image to literally any situation (which is a real actual promo photo that was used for Orlando)

The thing with Pavel Klimenda's version is that his Gethsemane is in no way perfect and paradoxically that is what makes it work so well. Because his Jesus is just a scared innocent young man who just had the purest intentions of trying to make the world a better place. And now he has found out that none of his followers are as earnest with helping others as he is, some of them have radicalized, the man he has feelings for is fated to betray him, nobody in the world truly understands him and the outside pressure he feels and to just top it off, for all the good he has tried to do, his only reward will be hours of torture, whipping and getting crucified. So, I would argue that his Gethsemane, which is so full of angst, screaming, crying and in which he is just an absolute emotional wreck is fully justified for his character interpretation.
(I'm sorry to all the reviewers who didn't get Pája!Jesus, just because he is like a polar opposite to Kamil Střihavka, may they find the light soon)

i could probably write an entire thesis on jgj’s mannerisms as moritz in spring awakening and how there are so many similarities between that performance and his johnny in american idiot. it would be 70 pages single-spaced and i would have to be institutionalised afterwards but i could definitely do it.
