'tis Worldbuilding Time!!

I want to ramble about worldbuilding and stuff like that, and my friend already suffered enough at my hands listening to my neverending rattling on and on and on.

 I don’t know where to start, so this will be all over the place.

The Underworld and the Overworld know about each other’s existence, but around 70 years before some agreements were put in place. There are a lot more types of gates than just the well seen in the comic, like mirrors that look normal but you can pass through. Because both governments try to regulate the passage of creatures between the worlds, these mirrors are collected and kept in glass display boxes in museums. 

There are still a few gates that are unregulated because they have not been discovered yet/people don’t know they are gates. For example, those stairways in forests that lead nowhere. Go up those and bam, when you try to go back down, you realise things look different.

It was the Underworld that requested the regulation of travel across worlds because humans are fragile and the Underworld can be extremely dangerous. When a human ends up dead, it’s a fuck ton of paperwork nobody in the Underworld wants to deal with.

Another reason is that 80 years ago, there was a wave of humans into the Underworld basically going door to door trying to set all those demons, wraiths, etc. on to the ‘right path’. Which was really annoying.

Because it is dangerous, but it’s not a hell or a purgatory. It’s its own world, with its own customs and traditions and it's still… livable (I can’t think of a better word). It has lots of issues, but none of them can be fixed with flyers.

Another requirement is that the Overworld is allowed to only purchase … from the Underworld, essentially creating a monopoly. For trades, the bigger gates are used, like the Arches of Triumph in places like Romania or France, the Patuxai Arch Monument in Laos, etc. There’s loads of them, all around the world.

I want to mention that travel between the worlds can and does happen and it’s not as tightly controlled as both governments would like it to be. That’s why smuggling is a lucrative job on both sides.

NOW onto the requirements of the Overworld.

I’m really bad at explaining so I’m going to put it bluntly 

Any human that has been authorised to live in the Underworld will have ‘special treatment’. Like, anyone who kills a human in the Underworld is in deep shit because they will be shipped off to the Overworld to be dealt with. What happens there, it’s a story for another day. I’ll reveal it at some point in the story (which I keep procrastinating writing. I think I started chapter three 4 times already).

Another requirement is that the Underworld needs to have a constitution, no matter how simple. There needs to be a set of laws in place, and to ensure that this constitution isn’t there just for ‘decoration’, the Overworld employs a police force sent to the Underworld. 

Thing is, they don’t want to have to spend so many funds on the Underworld, so the only places it’s really a thing are the big cities. But that doesn’t mean towns and rural areas live in anarchy.

Things are mostly run on the ‘eye for an eye’ principle. You mess with someone, their family/friends make sure you get what’s coming. It’s like a mutual agreement to ‘play nice’.

A mutual agreement is that neither side is allowed to wage war on the other.

Okok, so this is my friend’s addition. 

160 years before, there was an awfully bloody war that did not end in a winner. It lasted 8 years and both slides were too weak to fight each other, so they retreated like wounded dogs. As my friend put it, it is known as ‘The Berry War’ because it was so bloody it looked like a field of crushed berries.

And that’s all I got for now, it’s already goddamn long.

ถ้ำจัง (Jang Cave ) ถ้ำจัง เป็นที่เที่ยวอีกแห่งหนึ่งที่น่าสนใจของวังเวียง ด้านในเป็นถ้ำหินปูนขนาดใหญ่ ซึ่งในอดีตเคยเป็นที่หลบภัยสงครามของชาวบ้าน และเมื่อสงครามสงบลงชาวบ้านจึงได้กลับออกมาตั้งรกรากถิ่นฐานอยู่ในเมืองวังเวียง ภายในถ้ำแบ่งออกเป็นหลายส่วนด้วยกัน มีทั้งห้องโถงใหญ่ และ��างเดินแคบๆ เต็มไปด้วยหินงอกหินย้อย ให้เราเดินเที่ยวชมได้รอบถ้ำ อากาศภายในถ้ำเย็นสบาย พร้อมทั้งยังมีการติดไฟหลากสีไว้ เพื่อความสว่างสวยงามของถ้ำอีกด้วย

บลู ลากูน (Blue Lagoon) บลู ลากูน สระน้ำสีฟ้าใสที่เกิดขึ้นตามธรรมชาติ ตั้งอยู่บริเวณด้านหน้าของ ถ้ำภูคำ (Tham Phu Kham Cave) ที่เที่ยวยอดนิยมสุดๆ สำหรับนักท่องเที่ยวที่ไปเที่ยววังเวียงค่ะ ที่นี่มีน้ำในสระใสราวกับคริสตัลและเป็นสีฟ้า มองเห็นพื้นดินด้านล่างได้อย่างชัดเจน ที่ด้านข้างสระมีต้นไม้ใหญ่ สามารถไต่เชือกกระโดดน้ำได้อย่างสนุกสนานอีกด้วย

น้ำตกตาดกวางสี (Kuang Si Waterfal) น้ำตกตาดกวางสี หรือ น้ำตกตาดกวางซี สีถือเป็นน้ำตกที่สวยที่สุดในหลวงพระบางเลยก็ว่าได้ เป็นอีกหนึ่งที่เที่ยวลาวที่ไม่ควรพลาดมาชมความสวยงาม น้ำตกมีความสูง 4 ชั้น มีความสูง 75 เมตร เนื่องจากเป็นน้ำตกหินปูนจึงทำให้น้ำในน้ำตกเป็นสีเขียวมรกตอยู่ท่ามกลางธรรมชาติ ไฮไลท��ของที่นี่คือสะพานไม้ที่ทอดข้ามผ่านแอ่งน้ำให้ได้ยืนถ่ายรูปกับน้ำตก ที่น้ำตกแห่งนี้ไม่ได้เป็นสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวยอดฮิตของชาวเอเชียเท่านั้น แต่ยังดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยวชาวยุโรปมาเที่ยวไม่ขาดสาย

ปราสาทหินวัดพู (Vat Phou) โบราณสถานที่เป็นที่เที่ยวลาวที่ไม่ควรพลาดไปชมคือ ปราสาทหินวัดพู เป็นโบสถ์พราหมณ์ที่สร้างถวายพระศิวะ สร้างขึ้นในช่วงสมัยของขอมเรืองอำนาจ ลักษณะของปราสาทเป็นเทวสถานขอม คล้ายกับเขาพระวิหาร โดยที่นี่อยู่ห่างจากตัวเมืองเก่าจำปาสักประมาณ 6 กิโลเมตร การเดินทางไปเที่ยวชมปราสาทหินวัดพูรถใหญ่ไม่สามารถเดินทางเข้าไปได้ จึงมีบริการรถท้องถิ่นพาเข้าไป

ทุ่งไหหิน (Plain of Jars) ทุ่งไหหินเป็นที่ตั้งของหินใหญ่ ที่กระจัดกระจายไปทั่วที่ราบสูงเชียงขวาง โดยหินมีขนาดตั้งแต่กลางไปจนถึงใหญ่ มีลักษณะเป็นหินรูปไห น้ำหนักตั้งแต่ 40-50 กิโลกร��ม ไปจนถึง 15 ตัน ได้มีการขุดค้นโดยนักโบราณคดีชาวลาวและชาวญี่ปุ่น มีกว่า 2,500-3,000 ปี ที่นี่ยังได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นมรดกโลกโดย UNESCO อีกด้วย เป็นอีกหนึ่งที่เที่ยวลาวที่ไม่ควรพลาดชมความมหัศจรรย์ของอารยธรรมมนุษย์ในยุคโบราณ

สถานที่ท่องเที่ยวทั้งหมดนี้เป็นการยกตัวอย่างสถานที่ที่เด่นๆ ในประเทศลาวมาให้ได้เลือกดู และศึกษาก่อนเดินทางท่องเที่ยวกันเท่านั้น แต่ยังมีสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวอื่นๆที่น่าสนใจ อีกมากมายในประเทศลาว ขึ้นอยู่กับว่าเราสนใจที่จะไปเที่ยวในสถานที่แบบไหน แต่แนะนำว่าควรศึกษารายละเอียดสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวก่อนเดินทางทุกครั้งนะคะ

Vat Phou ปราสาทหินวัดพู ตั้งอยู่บนเนินเขาภู หรือเรียกกันว่าภูควาย เป็นโบราณสถานเก่าแก่ในประเทศลาว ซึ่งได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็น มรดกโลก
