“...Just before his death that great American artist Cy Twombly produced his last three drawings in Strasbourg, just down the road from me. First of all he whitewashed the windows of a shop that was being renovated with Spanish White, then using his finger he traced those strange cabalistic signs so very characteristic of his work ! People in the street were quite unaware of this gift, and passed by without even noticing. As for me I hastened to photograph this little urban masterpiece, despite the reflections from the street in the windows. These then are my “City Twombly” whose trace I am so proud to have preserved. In town, rumours have it that this work was not done by Cy Twombly at all, but by Adolphe Schistersmutt, a workman specialized in restoring buildings … What nonsense !..”
