Patricia Bonner, notre sélection jazz avec Chronicles of Time
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Read-Alike Friday: How Can I Help You by Laura Sims
How Can I Help You by Laura Sims
No one knows Margo’s real name. Her colleagues and patrons at a small town public library only know her middle-aged normalcy, congeniality, and charm. They have no reason to suspect that she is, in fact, a former nurse with a trail of countless premature deaths in her wake. She has turned a new page, so to speak, and the library is her sanctuary, a place to quell old urges.
That is, at least, until Patricia, a recent graduate and failed novelist, joins the library staff. Patricia quickly notices Margo’s subtly sinister edge, and watches her carefully. When a patron’s death in the library bathroom gives her a hint of Margo’s mysterious past, Patricia can’t resist digging deeper—even as this new fixation becomes all-consuming.
The Last Flight by Julie Clark
Claire Cook has a perfect life. Married to the scion of a political dynasty, with a Manhattan townhouse and a staff of ten, her surroundings are elegant, her days flawlessly choreographed, and her future auspicious. But behind closed doors, nothing is quite as it seems. That perfect husband has a temper that burns as bright as his promising political career, and he's not above using his staff to track Claire's every move, making sure she's living up to his impossible standards. But what he doesn't know is that Claire has worked for months on a plan to vanish.
A chance meeting in an airport bar brings her together with a woman whose circumstances seem equally dire. Together they make a last-minute decision to switch tickets — Claire taking Eva's flight to Oakland, and Eva traveling to Puerto Rico as Claire. They believe the swap will give each of them the head start they need to begin again somewhere far away. But when the flight to Puerto Rico goes down, Claire realizes it's no longer a head start but a new life. Cut off, out of options, with the news of her death about to explode in the media, Claire will assume Eva's identity, and along with it, the secrets Eva fought so hard to keep hidden.
The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz
Jacob Finch Bonner was once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. Today, he’s teaching in a third-rate MFA program and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect; he hasn’t written—let alone published—anything decent in years. When Evan Parker, his most arrogant student, announces he doesn’t need Jake’s help because the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then . . . he hears the plot.
Jake returns to the downward trajectory of his own career and braces himself for the supernova publication of Evan Parker’s first novel: but it never comes. When he discovers that his former student has died, presumably without ever completing his book, Jake does what any self-respecting writer would do with a story like that—a story that absolutely needs to be told.
In a few short years, all of Evan Parker’s predictions have come true, but Jake is the author enjoying the wave. He is wealthy, famous, praised and read all over the world. But at the height of his glorious new life, an e-mail arrives, the first salvo in a terrifying, anonymous campaign: You are a thief, it says.
As Jake struggles to understand his antagonist and hide the truth from his readers and his publishers, he begins to learn more about his late student, and what he discovers both amazes and terrifies him. Who was Evan Parker, and how did he get the idea for his “sure thing” of a novel? What is the real story behind the plot, and who stole it from whom?
The Unkindness of Ravens by M.E. Hilliard
Greer Hogan is a librarian and an avid reader of murder mysteries. She also has a habit of stumbling upon murdered bodies. The first was her husband's, and the tragic loss led Greer to leave New York behind for a new start in the Village of Raven Hill. But her new home becomes less idyllic when she discovers her best friend sprawled dead on the floor of the library.
Was her friend's demise related to two other deaths that the police deemed accidental? Do the residents of this insular village hold dark secrets about another murder, decades ago? Does a serial killer haunt Raven Hill?
As the body count rises, Greer's anxious musings take a darker turn when she uncovers unexpected and distressing information about her own husband's death...and the man who went to prison for his murder . She is racked with guilt at the possibility that her testimony may have helped to convict an innocent man.
Though Greer admires the masters of deduction she reads about in books, she never expected to have to solve a mystery herself. Fortunately, she possesses a quick wit and a librarian's natural resourcefulness. But will that be enough to protect her from a brilliant, diabolical murderer?
And even if Greer manages to catch the Raven Hill killer, will living with her conscience prove a fate worse than death?
This is the first volume of the "Greer Hogan Mystery" series.

Where is Gypsy Now?
By Kush Bansal, Rutgers University Class of 2024
August 24, 2021
Tumblr media
Parents are the ones that we look up to for advice any sort of situation when needed. Parents can even sometimes be seen as “overprotective,” which in many cases can frustrate their children for caring too much, even though this type of parenting can be seen as helpful in the long run. However, in some instances, being overprotective can be seen as abusive causing a huge strain in a mother-daughter relationship and even getting one of them killed; That was the situation in the case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard.
Ever since she was a baby, Gypsy had been brainwashed into thinking she had a plethora of illnesses, including muscular dystrophy, Leukemia, and even needed a feeding tube, as well as having to be placed in a wheelchair. Gypsy’s mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, would even go on to say that Gypsy suffered asthma, seizure, hearing and visual issues. Despite all of these medial issues, there was only one problem, Gypsy was suffering from none of these illnesses. It was believed that De Dee, however, was suffering from Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSP) [1].
(MSP) is a disorder in which a caregiver is constantly seeking, specifically, medical attention by other people in society. This illness generally affects mothers, and people suffering from MSP are known to fabricate their child’s illness to gain empathy from everyone around her [2].
As Gypsy got older, Dee Dee continued to lie about the Gypsy’s medical issues and even lied about the stage of their home life, which in turned caused many individuals to want to help the mother and daughter. Dee Dee received a new house built by the organization “Habitat for Humanity” and even got an enormous number of benefits from other organizations, and even a free trip to Disney World. However, as Gypsy got older, it was getting more difficult for Dee Dee to dictate her life and at one point, Gypsy went behind her mother’s back and met a boy on a dating site and told him the truth about the abuse she suffered by Dee Dee. Gypsy then asked the boy from the dating site, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill Dee Dee so that Gypsy could run away and be with Godejohn. In June of 2017, GodeJohn came to the house and stabbed Dede Blanchard to death then left to go to GodeJohn’s house in Wisconsin [1]
Gypsy was charged with second degree murder for the death of Dee Dee Blanchard and had pleaded guilty and is now serving ten years in a Correctional Center located in Missouri. Gypsy will be eligible for Parole after serving seven years of her sentence which will occur in 2023. GodeJohn however is serving life in prison with no eligibility for parole [3].
Due to the harrowing life Gypsy went through, Hulu was intrigued by this story and decided to make a television show based on Gyp’s childhood entitled The Act. The Act is a 8 episodes series show the events all preceding the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard. The show stars Patricia Arquette as Dee Dee Blanchard, and Joey King as Gypsy Rose Blanchard. The series said in a statement that “‘some of its events have been “dramatized or fictionalized,” [4].
Even though many people enjoyed the show and connected to the series in some way, many people were not as much fond with the The Act, including Gypsy herself. Gypsy was extremely disappointed of how the show portrayed her childhood. Even though Gypsy was quite excited that Joey King was going to be playing her, since Gypsy was a huge fan of King, Gypsy was not a fan of the show overall. Gypsy was especially disappointed of how the showed showcased her childhood friend Aleah. Gypsy had described Aleah as “a positive influence for her, like an older sister and Gypsy felt that that was shown accurately in the series [5].
People were shocked when this case first made headlines people were shocked to hear how the hoor Gypsy endured. However, many people did not realize the illness Dee Dee was suffering herself, which caused her to act this way and even treat her daughter like a pet. Even though people in our society may not be pleaded with the show, it’s important for individuals in our society read about this case and how people are suffering and not that they want to act this way, they can’t control their emotions or actions.

Hambletonian 10 bred by Jonas Seely, Jr. on his farm at Sugar Loaf in Orange County, New York. He was sired by Abdallah who was a grandson of the hugely influential Thoroughbred sire, Messenger. Abdallah was ugly in body and temperament, so much so that he was sold to a fish peddlar for $5. Hambletonian's dam was known as the Charles Kent Mare or the 'Kent Mare.' Hambletonian was thrice inbred to Messenger, considered a foundation sire of Standardbreds.
Seeley's hired hand, William Rysdyk, cared for the mare and foal. Rysdyk became so attached to the pair and was so convinced that the foal would someday be great that he asked to purchase them. Seeley finally agreed, and for $125 William Rysdyk took his prize possessions home.
Hambletonian had an unusual build, being low at the withers (15.1 ¼ hh) but high at the croup (15.3 ¼). This length of hind leg did, however, provide a great deal of thrust with each stride, and he passed this on to all his get.
Career
Hambletonian 10, as he was registered, made his first public appearance at the age of six months at the nearby Orange County Fair in Goshen. He caused quite a sensation and horsemen started referring to him as 'Rysdyk's Abdallah colt.' This colt began his stud career at age two when Rysdyk allowed him to cover four mares. Meanwhile another son of Abdallah, Abdallah Chief, owned by Seeley C. Roe, was looming as a competitor for the local stallion honors. Roe had nothing but contempt for Hambletonian, and claimed he'd never be a trotter, only a show horse. This issue was settled in 1852 at Long Island's Union Course. Hambletonian and Abdallah Chief were hitched to skeleton wagons with their owners driving. Three minutes and three seconds after the start, Hambletonian crossed the finish line ahead of his rival. Roe still wasn't satisfied and insisted on another race. A time trial was held. Abdallah Chief went the mile in 2:55 1/2. Then Roe watched Hambletonian, in what would be the only time trial of his career, trot the mile in 2:48 1/2. Rysdyk then placed Hambletonian at stud in Chester and bred him to local mares for a fee upwards of $500. The horse's reputation quickly grew as a sire of speed, and Rysdyk made a modest fortune from the horse's services. In his years at stud, 1,331 foals were sired. From four of Hambletonian's sons (George Wilkes, Dictator, Happy Medium, and Electioneer), the lineage of virtually all American Standardbred horses can be traced.
Death
At age 27 on March 27, 1876, Hambletonian died. Both he and his owner, who had died in 1870, were buried in Chester, N.Y. Seventeen years after Hambletonian's death a granite monument, the gift of many people who had fond memories of the horse, was placed over his grave on Hambletonian Avenue.
Legacy
In 24 seasons at stud, between 1851 and 1875, Hambletonian produced about 1,335 foals. Through four Hambletonian sons, 99 percent of all of the harness racing horses in North America today trace their bloodline to him.
In the 1860s, one of his sons, Dexter, trotted the mile in 2:17.25-a record. Dexter was immediately bought for $25,000 by a Robert Bonner for his own private driving pleasure. A rigidly moral man, Bonner did not approve of racing or betting, so no one will ever know if Dexter could have trotted even faster. But ever since, no horse lacking lines to Hambletonian in their pedigree has ever done better.
The Hambletonian Stakes race, the most prestigious harness race for trotters in North America, is named in honor of Hambletonian 10.

The Hambletonian Stakes is a major American harness race, named in honor of Hambletonian 10, a foundation sire of the Standardbred horse breed, also known as the 'Father of the American Trotter.' The Hambletonian is held annually for three-year-old trotting Standardbreds. It is the first event in the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Trotters. The Hambletonian is run at Meadowlands Racetrack (New Jersey) on the first Saturday in August.(1)

Hambletonian Horse Race 2020
The Hambletonian first took place at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY in 1926. The race switched from Syracuse to Lexington, KY for the 1927 and 1929 races, however, because of rainouts. Starting in 1930, Good Time Park in Goshen, NY hosted the race until 1956 with the exception of 1943. That year, The Hambletonian was raced at Empire City Race Track, which became Yonkers Raceway in 1950, because of wartime gas rationing. The Du Quoin State Fair in Du Quoin, IL gained the rights to host the race in 1957 and held on to it until 1980. Since 1981, the race has been at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, NJ

ThesePinkLips Fashion Showcase! 💋 MKR Kippurah (My custom jacket designs) We came to Philly this weekend to turn up and turn out ! The entire graffiti decor I mean from the entrance to the bathroom l mean literally the bathroom was decked out ! This was also my mother's birthday weekend so I custom designed her and my jacket because the flower/rose patches are IN honey ! Everyone LOVED my designs! The entire room was just full of fashion, art, and love and that's exactly where I needed to be. Every single white space there was in that room was covered in graffiti art no white spaces whatsoever ! I will upload my snap Vlog of it soon. I also got to meet the designer herself Iris Bonner! And I also met project runway contestant Mah Jing Wong , the fabulous black designer you see me with and his model with that iconic yellow blonde hair, he was so humble and down to earth . I also encountered plus size Instagram model/ brand ambassador Miss Rosh Posh (with the pink hair) and we just had a mini photo shoot honey ! What I love the most about ThesePinkLips not only are you seeing her collab work with the OG designer Patricia Field and her pieces on celebs like: Amber Rose, BlacChyna, Cardi B, etc. I appreciate her for the art she custom hand paints and puts herself into the fashion. Like you can just totally tell she really makes her imagination a reality ! For those of you inquiring about the jacket I designed . This is not for the cheap ! This is for someone that is fashion forward, likes to be different, appreciates quality, and may want to treat themselves to a custom piece . Let's be real here , in any store a jacket with this many patches will run you $500 retail - trust me I've done my research you can look as well. Hell some are even $1000. So for me , any of these freestyle designs I did I can customize your denim jacket how you like for $250. Anything else extra you want we can discuss extra pricing . But I will be actually starting to sell these denim jackets myself as I continue to customize more of them to sell. So keep looking out for me ! #MKRplusfashion #MKRKippurah #thesepinklips #customdesign #plussizeblogger #fashionblogger #plussizedesigner #customedesigner #fashiondesigner

Press Release:
Organised in collaboration by Bonner Kunstverein, Kölnischer Kunstverein and Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Maskulinitäten is an international exhibition with a series of events and accompanying publication project that explores the subject of masculinity via contemporary art. The tripartite presentation is premised by an interest in questioning how a feminist exhibition on masculinity could look.
Conceived within the context of prominent and reactionary manifestations of masculinity and with an irreverent, uncompromising critique of its hegemonic forms, the collaboration aims to destabilise patriarchal and heteronormative notions of gender. Including public artworks, performances, plays, readings, lectures, screenings, and workshops, the exhibition seeks to open up alternative spaces of agency and bring performative and transgressive conceptions of identity, sexuality, gender and the body to the fore.
The three institutions share a history in variously presenting radical, feminist and queer exhibitions. Whilst many of these focused on reclaiming femininity and female experience from a history of male authorship, this project turns its attention instead to the male subject. The exhibition and the accompanying programme explores shifting perspectives on the representation of the body, the associated politics of power and visibility, and how these are negotiated and deconstructed in art from the 1960s to the present. Encompassing artistic and art-theoretical perspectives from different contexts and periods, masculinity is encountered as a complex, evolving, social construct that remains in continual flux.
