The Marble Nest is a horrifying exercise in mortality. But also. Top 10 Daniil Dankovsky moments.

honestly i love the new dynamic between the healers created by the new bachelor route. bachelor is going the fuck out of his mind, looks like he's on drugs, 'i can see... everything... time is malleable... i can mold time... the town is merely a map for my thoughts...' meanwhile artemy, after having fucking died (AGAIN) and just had to deal with the same shit from FUCKING MARK just helps him get to bed in the stillwater like ok bachelor do you need morphine to go to bed to recover from your fucking stab wound or are you so up in the clouds you don't feel pain anymore

Since Patho 2 Bachelor’s route is on the way, I’d like to share that one time in the height of the pandemic I got on a tram and there was just... a squeezed out lemon under one of the seats. And since that day, I’m plagued by an image of Dankovsky, sitting on a tram, awake for 48 hours, sucking on a lemon while running errands around the Capital, trying to prevent Thanatica from being shut down.

speaking of burakhovsky i have a concept
daniil and artemy run into each other at the broken heart after a particularly long day and one thing leads to another and they accidentally get drunk on twyrine and the following conversation ensues:
A: So you’re never getting married or what?
D: Pardon?
A: I mean, if you got married, what would people call you then?
D: …My name?
A: Well, sure, but what about your nickname- “The Married Man” doesn’t sound nearly as seamless as The Bachelor.
D: The Ma- What???
A: Look, don’t get me wrong, you’re extremely handsome, but do they seriously gotta call you The Bachelor just cuz of how eligible you are? You don’t see me flaunting my marital status everywhere-
D: Vorakh. Vorakh. This is a joke. I know that this is a joke, and this is why I don’t need to explain to you that people refer to me as The Bachelor due to my medical degree, as in The Bachelor of Medicine. You, however, knew this already, and that is why I did not just explain that to you.
A: …Yes. Of course.
D: …So you think I’m extremely handsome-
A: I never finished medical school.

If we’re all in agreement that the Patho 2 Bachelor Route needs a fishing and dress-up minigame then I would also like to suggest a bug-catching minigame as well. I mean why include the detail that Daniil had a beetle collection if not for the sake of foreshadowing?

I'm still just kinda obsessed with the small town rumor mill that dominates the Town-on-Gorkhon, especially for those who have just arrived.
as the Bachelor, you rely on the info of the Bound and the townsfolk to orient yourself to this alien place, and as a man of science, Dankovsky is rightfully skeptical, yet still lets prejudice and closed-mindedness and confirmation bias color his interpretation of people and events. in most cases he'll ask for proof in the form of evidence and data, but especially when it comes to the Kin, he's quick to believe they're superstitious savages who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. his superiority complex gets in the way of forming objective insights about what's actually happening. which ends up biting him in the ass a few times depending on player choices.
so, when you play as him first, barely getting the chance to interact with the Haruspex until later, you (the player) too fall prey to the town gossip. for the majority of his run, I had the same assumption that Burakh is a dangerous man because of all the misinformation being peddled by people like Saburov, Rubin, and the Kains. when you finally meet him and break him out of jail and talk to him at the Termitary, I was quite surprised to find he talks to you frankly but with great respect; in the end, he is not, in fact, this bloodthirsty villain archetype that we've been led to believe, but a man who is equally complex and compassionate and simply wishes to save the town. and for him, it's an even more personal investment.
then, playing as Burakh had me dumbstruck at how fucking goofy and outright crude he could be. sure, you have the option of leaning into the rumors and becoming the monster everyone expects, but to me, that doesn't suit his character at all (feel free to disagree). sure, his role as a menkhu is definitely grim and you have the ability to trade organs in seedy black market deals. but at his core he's a healer. he's so earnest yet bone-dry sarcastic, and he runs around the Steppe picking herbs, and he'll do everything he can to help orphaned children. and all of these aspects of his personality that I didn't get to see at all during the Bachelor's route completely caught me off guard, which made me appreciate them that much more.
anyways, more games should utilize an (effective) reputation system where actions not only have consequences, but you as the player are just as influenced by the in-game world's gossip and characters' public image, too.

when you’re sooo gay for each other you rise above mere philistine romance and become homoerotically platonic forever

We've vaguely seen the theme of time distortion relating to utopianism in patho before in things like Simon Kain's impossible age and the cathedral's role essentially as a huge clock and supposedly producer of time itself - I'm super excited to see how the bachelor route's treatment of time plays into this!

deeply amused that there’s not really anything in either voronika or yulia’s dialogue that tips you off to daniil being in the rotunda of the trammel on day 6
like yulia mentions that the three healers will get summoned by the inquisition but it’s not like clara’s there to make you think “huh, where’s daniil”
so if someone’s not the kind of player who opens doors just because they’re There, there’s absolutely nothing in the text hinting at the fact that yulia just shoved daniil in the other room like “go pace in there i can’t deal with your panic attack right now” and you miss out on experiencing daniil in breakdown mode for the first time
