La voz de los ’80 (1984), Pateando piedras (1986), La cultura de la basura (1987), Corazones (1990), Los Prisioneros
Los Prisioneros are pop icons for a bunch of reasons, from regional flag-flying to political bravery, but beyond all that stuff, it’s the band’s actual tunes that really underpin their brilliance – and which mean their powers linger to this day. Debut La voz de los ’80was propulsive, catchy, dynamic, versatile: in short, all one could want from rock primed for the popular consciousness. Second record Pateando piedras was less raw but no less catchy, transitioning into a glitzier new wave sound (complete with ‘80s-isms of orchestral hits to squelching synths) that is perhaps the closest music I’ve ever found to the ecstatic scale and density of melody of New Order – believe me, exceptionally high praise indeed. Third La cultura de la basura was spottier but, at its best, of synthpop similarly worth revering, while Corazones was a return to the blistering form of Pateando piedras with more dance and a drop of hip-hop influence. As a quadruple, popular rock has rarely seen better.

Hello, in this post I want to talk about one of the most influential bands in Chilean rock, nothing more and nothing less than "Los Prisioneros".
Los Prisioneros are a Chilean rock band that was born in the commune of San Miguel in the 1980s. Composed of Jorge González, Claudio Narea and Miguel Tapia, this band achieved success at the Latin American level, with songs that sound like anthems in almost everyone, such as "El baile de los que sobran."
The band had its beginnings at Liceo 6 in San Miguel when the three members were in their first year of high school. Here they began their first musical rehearsals at Jorge's house or another member of the band.
In the first instance they recorded some songs and performed at small events under the name "Los vinchukas". However, they managed to achieve success with their first album "La Voz de los 80" in 1984, with Carlos Fonseca, an acquaintance of Jorge and the band's later manager, who became interested in them and did everything possible to make them known.
From this, his success increased with the release of the album "Pateando piedra", which contained elements from the previous album, but added the use of synthesizers and other musical elements. This album contains songs like "Muevan las industries", "Por qué no se van" and "El baile de los que sobran". This album was the one that catapulted them to fame and led them to tour throughout Latin America and their memorable concert at the National Stadium.
After the release of their third album "La cultura de la trash", the band had a resounding fall with the departure of Claudio Narea upon learning that his wife was unfaithful to him with Jorge González. However, the band managed to rebound with the album "Corazones" in 1990, which gave a new air to their music with iconic songs like "Tren al sur" and "Corazones rojo".
After a series of breakups and comebacks, the band definitively separated in 2006, but not without leaving behind legendary concerts such as the National Stadium in 2001 or the presentation at the Viña del Mar Festival in 2003.
The band left an indelible legacy in Chilean music and its lyrics still resonate within today's youth.

what latino rock (or punk) bands do u rec?
Definitely Soda Stereo, that's a must. They're an argentinian band from the 80s and probably the most famous latino rock band, with good reason. Any of their stuff is great, their self titled or Nada Personal specially.
Adding to that, Los Prisioneros are one of my favorites. They're a chilean band from the 80s too and they have more political lyrics, Pateando Piedras is my favorite album from them. If you're looking for something more punk, then I'd say Los Miserables, also from Chile, and I'd recommend their self titled.
Huge mention to Legião Urbana, from Brasil. Also from the 80s, Dois is the album to go with them, very similar to that same vibey rock from Soda Stereo.
Also Café Tacvba, from México. From the 90s, they're sort of a rock band but they mix up a lot of styles so I wouldn't listen to them only expecting rock. Re or Avalancha de Éxitos are two good albums from them.
Also, not rock but very important to me personally; Victor Jara. A genius with the guitar and beautiful lyricists, he was publicly executed during a dictatorship in Chile for his protest songs in the 70s. Either Manifiesto or El Derecho De Vivir en Paz are amazing albums from him, if you want to listen to amazing guitar playing and heartbreaking lyrics.
Honorable mentions: Los Tres, Charly García, Fito Paez, Los Bunkers, Gustavo Cerati (obvs)
I'm missing a lot but for now I hope this helps a little and you give any of these a listen :) thank you so much for asking
#I'm so happy I got asked this really really ty#I love talking about latino music#and I'm sure I missed a lot but these are some of my personal faves#so it might be biased but it's the ones I grew up with and love#rock latino#rock argentino#rock chileno#rock brasileiro#rock mexicano#80s rock

No diría que estoy pateando la misma piedra que ayer. Estoy sacándolas del camino uno por uno
Sé que tardo en el proceso, pero prefiero eso a seguir con la misma piedra que tropecé.

oh! do you have any bands i should check out? i've been wanting to listen to more spanish music and i'm generally a fan of early 2000s rock
OHHH YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HAPPY YOU'VE JUST MADE ME yes i do indeed ! recs will be under the cut to avoid being annoying
okay so first of all, los bunkers (the band i just linked) is a must listen, they're from chile and have had relatively good success. afaik (i don't know much abt the technical aspects of music but i have nerd friends who do) their melodies are p simple but they're good. i recommend the album i linked the most (La Culpa, 2003) but you can find some bangers under Vida de Perros (2005), which i'm gonna link below
another chilean must-listen is los prisioneros, which is a band of relative mundial success, they're more 90's than straight 2000's but honestly it's worth checking. i'm gonna link the 2000's album which is Los Prisioneros too ... but honestly i urge you to listen to Corazones, Pateando Piedras or La Cultura de La Basura (80's-90's)
you really can't talk about spanish rock without mentioning gustavo cerati or soda stereo. soda stereo is a must generally, check out Nada personal ! but for more 2000's vibes you must go for cerati's personal songs. a good album example is Bocanada, with Ahí Vamos being a close second. argentinean icon, never not missed.
maná is a clasic rock band, and their lbum Amar es combatir (2006) is sosooooososo good. labios compartidos is a song anyone in latam will sing with their whole chest and that's about as much of a vouch i can give (and if you want to cry you should listen En el Muelle de San Blás)
another good rec is Babasónicos, with their album Infame (2003) the best rec i can give you. iconic af!! alt rock is a fav of mine, tho i can't give vouches for anything else of them my bad
and this is a joke suggestion mostly but TECHNICALLY....shakira's second spanish album, donde están los ladrones (1998) is labeled as spanish rock AND IT'S A BANGER AND I HATE THAT SHE FELT SO PRESURED TO GIVE SOMETHING EXCELLENT UNDER THE SPECTICISM OF HER FIRST SUCCESSS BUT SHE FUCKING DELIVERED IT'S A MASTERPIECE. TO THIS DAY IS HER BEST SPANISH SELLING ALBUM AS FUCKING DESERVED. stream inevitable.
#anogie i Am kissing you. On the lips.#and in general whoever stumbles upon this list pleaseeee listen to these and give me your thoughts :3c#if i can make Once person listen to any artist inside this list i'll be so happy ...#star anons

ASESINAME
Nunca te atribuiré la culpa
de palidecer mi carne
helar mis huesos
aclarar mi sangre
mantener las ruinas
y los escombros de mis delirios
intactos a tu gusto
la arquitectura del abatido
(semejante a mi esqueleto)
Me sinceraré al decirte;
estoy obnubilada
pateando la piedra
y mirando para dentro,
mirándote.
Pasaron dos años, amor
y nunca te atribuiré la culpa
mientras pueda seguir

‘ no iba a golpearlo.
