Sometimes you go to the bar to take your mind off work; sometimes you go for a drink; sometimes you go for a quick hook-up; Rosa had come to think. Not about her past, or Logistics, or any of the dozen other topics that somewhat dominated her life - no, she was here to fantasize, to let her mind wander places it couldn’t normally without the help of a few glasses of whiskey and a barstool under her, and three glasses in she was finally in the perfect mental state-
-for some stupid Feline to spill her beer on her. “Aah! When’d you get there?”
“When did I get here? I’ve been sitting here for some time now, thank you.” The Ursus found herself half-glaring, half-staring, at Swire, Lungmen’s best business manager...and right now, a very flustered drunk.
“Oh, well then’s my fault, I guess.” She pouted. “So damn hard to walk when every’s all duplicate-y. There’s like five of that guy, for crying out loud!”
The noble followed her glance- hang on, no, there were two of him, each with a glass in hand. “I know what you mean...I should go home before this beer soaks in any further. Even then, it’ll probably smell like alcohol for awhile.”
“You’n come back to my place! It’s like right ‘round the corner fr’mere.”
“You do owe me for causing this, I suppose.” Rosa hopped to the floor. “Well, then, take me there...Is something wrong?”
Swire hiccuped. “N-n-nope! Nope, nothing wrong here, heheh...Thicc.”
“Excuse me?” The Ursus couldn’t have heard her correctly.
“Nothing, nothing!” The Feline grabbed her arm and pulled her towards the door. “Lezgo!”
The bartender, as they left, looked to the Oni who’d brought Swire in with her. “Yer not gonna try’n stop ‘er?”
“Why would I? It’ll make a great story tomorrow, I’m sure.” Hoshiguma gave him a wink before going back to listening to the karaoke playing from the back.
“A’ight, we back in da crib!” Miraculously, after lugging the money-cat around while she gave confused rambly directions, they’d found their way to her apartment. “First things first, gotta getcha outta those rags so they’n get washed. Bathroom’s back ‘dere, I’ll getcha a robe.”
This was already taking a weird turn, but whatever; if it got her not smelling like cheap booze, it was good enough. “Thank you, Miss Swire.”
“Miss? Don’cha start with that, just Swire’s fine.” Definitely not the night to try and treat her like a lady.
“Well, thank you regardless.” She opened the door, glancing back at the Feline. “Knock when you’ve found a robe for me.”
Swire gave her a thumbs-up, watching her close the door before whistling. “Well, Swire, ya brough‘er home...Wa’ step two? Damnit, Hoshi, ya forgot’a tell me step two...We’ll fig’r it out. Let’s go fin‘era robe.”
Rosa took her time in the shower, not because it was an amazing shower, but because she wanted as much of the booze stink off of her as possible. Even if the one who’d brought her home was drunk as a skunk, the Ursus was a lady, and a lady doesn’t climb into someone’s bed at anything less than her best. There was no accounting for taste, and it seemed to her like the money-cat was on the same wavelength.
“Hey, Rosa?” Knock knock knock. “Gotcher robe wi’me. I’ll pastya thru ‘d door. Might babit small tho.”
“Thank you, Swire...What do your friends call you?” Natalya opened the door enough for the Feline to pass her the robe, keeping out of the crack’s line of sight. She’d have her chance to see it all soon enough.
Audible silence from the Feline. “Uh...Kitkat...Not g’na laugh?”
“It’s not funny to me; it’s rather cute, actually.” She swung the door wide open, robe tied around her but not leaving much to the imagination. “A name like that tells me you must be pretty sweet.”
“...Are ya comin’ onta me or am I just that out of it?”
The noble laughed. “Oh, my, you are drunk, then? Well, by my honor as a lady, if you’re not able to give consent-”
“Jussa snuggle?” Swire was giving her Jessica eyes. “Ifya don’wanna take a chance I getcha, but I mean...we’roth ‘ere, ain’t we?”
“Hmm. Yes, that should be fine.” It’s hard to feign consideration when you’re chomping at the bit to get something.
The Feline led her back to her bedroom, gesturing for her to make herself comfortable first before half-rolling into bed. “Ya know I’d’ve said yeah, right? Was the ‘ole pointa goin’ t’nite...Ow.”
“Come here, Kitkat.” Rosa beckoned to her; when she was close enough, the Ursus pulled her on top, setting the back of her head against her chest and softly stroking her hair. “In the morning, when you’ve had time to sober up, I’ll still be here.”
“Ya will? Why?”
Oh, a little taste couldn’t hurt, could it? She kissed her forehead. “Because once we were through the door, I had the same thought.”
“Ohhh.” Swire giggled. “Well thaznice...G’night, Nat.”
“Good night, Kitkat.” Wait, did she just...maybe she’d remember to ask in the morning.

Now Kats questions
Tagged by @chatonkatreal (my choice to do this)
1. Do you plan things out or do you just wing it and fly by the seat of your pants? I want to plan things out, but often wing it.
2. What’s one thing you wish you’d started as a kid and kept at it all these years? Telling people the bitter truth instead of sweetalking them.
3. Do you remember your dreams? Which one sticks out to you? Sometimes. My most vivid dream was last years, running away from a cloaked figure to the song “This is how a heart breaks”. Figure being my ex.
4. What was your favorite animal at age 10? What about now? Did it change? If so why? Praying mantis back then, I loved bugs. Nowadays I’m a dogfolk.
5. Pasta yes? Pasta no? Pasta who would you know~ PASTYAS
5. Pick a pet. Dogs and cats are not allowed. What would it be? Tough choice. I have a few daddy long leg spiders in my home, George, Silva and Arachne who do their jobs my keeping mozzies out of my home. Yeah, spiders.

ZackSephWeek Day 8 - Free Day!!!
I present to you: a deleted scene from Pastya Bedtime!!
~
“Ooh! How about this one, pal."
With a sunny smile illuminating his face, Zack pointed to yet another image on the page—the thirteenth one, if they were keeping track—and that smile continued to shine blindingly bright as he glanced up at him in search of approval.
Approval that, frankly, was not found, given that an exhausted headshake was his response.
"Zack..." he started tiredly, but the amusement was more than portrayed through the smirk budding on his lips. "For the thirteenth time: I don't mind which pasta you cook. If you think the Alfredo looks appetizing, then cook it."
“Ah, but is the Alfredo with broccoli what you really want?"
Sephiroth ran a hand over his face.
"Okie doke!" Zack said in understanding, turning back to his recently purchased copy of Penne For Your Thoughts: The Ultimate Guide to the Perfect Pasta Dish and flipping the page. "Alfredo is no-go."
"Did I not just agree to it?"
"Nope! You said if I found it appetizing."
"And?"
"And it's YOUR birthday, Seph! I wanna make what you want."
"And if what I want is whatever you choose?"
"Then you better believe we're gonna be here all night, bud."
Sephiroth couldn't help but give way a small chuckle, shaking his head at his friend's sheer display of obstinance and resilience. Some things truly never changed, never could falter.
"C'mon, bud!” Zack pressed, blue eyes continuing to roam over the option. “Don't worry about me! You know I'll eat anything under the sun!”
"Yes... that I frighteningly do know.”
"Good! Then just tell me what kinda pasta you want, pal. Just tell me and I'll make it."
Silence reigned for a moment, and Sephiroth continued to smirk. “And how am I supposed to choose when you purchased an entire cookbook?"
"Simple! Just tell me what your favorite is."
Sephiroth shook his head again.
"Oh c'mon, pal, just tell me your favorite! I can do it! Really. I went out to the store and literally picked up every ingredient in the book. Like… every one. I think the store clerk thought I was a loon.”
Sephiroth shook his head harder. "
“...I'm afraid that was unnecessary."
"What? No it wasn't!!!” Zack protested. "You said you loved pasta, so I wanted to make sure you had your favorite—“
"Plain."
"—…and, yknow… Wait. Pardon?"
"Plain," Sephiroth repeated, an almost resigned dip in his tone as he folded his arms. "Plain spaghetti with salt."
Zack blinked—blinked about three times, for that matter, maybe five—and it was clear that he suddenly felt quite sheepish standing beside an open cookbook of elaborate, sophisticated pasta platters when all he needed was a store-bought box of noodles and some sodium chloride.
"...You mean, that’s your favorite? Plain ol' spaghetti with table salt?"
Sephiroth’s expression said it all; a sincere, unmistakable honestly shimmering in those silver-skimmed emerald eyes.
Annnnd Zack thought maybe it wasn’t so bad to take the reins after all.
“Okay! New plan!” Zack laughed, shutting the (now) completely useless cookbook with purposeful puntuctation. “Howww about we do try one of my old favorites. Sound good to you, pal? Just, y’know, so we don’t waste the ingredients!”
…Okay, maybe that was just the Angeal inside of him talking.
Maybe.
Probably.
Regardless of the reason, Sephiroth’s response was one of piqued curiosity, the slight movement of his silver brow lifting alongside the shame in those jade irises.
“…Oh?” he hummed, most intrigued. “And what would that be?”
Grinning, Zack had already begun making his way over to the freezer, flinging over the hefty metal door in search of the most homey (and potentially smelly) item in his arsenal.
“How about I make an old Gongagan favorite? Piscine Pasta!”

July 10: Day 50
Today started with breakfast with a family originally from Bangalore but who now live in England. Dr. Amar is a surgeon, and he’s here with his wife Joti and daughter Naranya (I think). They’re really sweet.
I joined in on morning rounds with the medical students and Cornell students. I don’t really like rounds. It feels very dehumanizing and I just can’t get on board with that. After we visited each patient I tried to smile and say “Namaskara” which is the traditional greeting here; I know I can’t do much here not speaking the language and not being a medical professional but I can at least act like a compassionate human being. There is so much going on in these people’s lives and I know how awful it can be in a hospital setting where you’re treated as a case and not a person. I think it’s important to bridge that “us vs. them” gap, otherwise it just looks like foreigners using people to gain medical knowledge. I never want that to be what I do.
After this, I spent some time with Dr. Abhignya. She brought me upstairs to the Ayurvedic wing where there was a procedure going on for pain relief. Frying Datura leaves in oil and applying them to the skin, and heating a metal coin in this oil as well and wrapping it in a Datura leaf and placing it on the muscle pain. This heating is meant to encourage blood circulation and thus decrease pain. I then spent some time with the Ayurvedic therapy students who were practicing procedures on each other. Dr. Yumna was leading this, she’s really cool. The first pictures shows Shiro-Basti which is when you tie gauze around the head and cover with a paste, then paste a wall-like “tiara” structure around the head which is meant to hold warm oil and help with insomnia, anxiety and neurological disorders. The next one they did was Shiro-Lapana where a paste is applied to the scalp, then a small circular wall is created where the crown chakra would be on top of the head to hold warm oil, and a Datura leaf is placed over top. This is meant to endure sound sleep, and help with any scalp issues such as dandruff. She also said that keeping this part of the body warm will keep the rest of the body warm as it’s where the chakras all originate and go into the body. It’s all about stimulating nerves and blood circulation. I talked to Dr. Abhignya about chakras and she said it’s all kind of interconnected with Ayurveda.
While I was observing I met two girls who are students in the neighbouring state Kerala at the Ayurvedic college named Riya and Sandra. They’re super nice. We talked a lot about what their college is like and they had to take sanskrit classes and everything is taught in English so like man... I could technically do that. They said the only foreign student they had was a guy from Italy named Leo lol but they were excited to meet me it was great. They’re also interested in observing births so they said they’d let me know if they know of one going on!
We then spent some time seeing patients and she explained to me afterward what she was prescribing and about the patient’s history. A really interesting patient came in who was 14 years old, and he had had viral hepatitis and jaundice. Dr. Abhignya explained that Ayurveda is especially beneficial for the liver as liver diuretics increase Agni. Pitta is mainly generated in the liver, and therefore this boy was given tablets to reduce Pitta in the liver. Liver enzymes went from 130 and 220 to 66 and 146 respectively. Also, in a scan the liver was significantly reduced in size. He was on a strict diet that contributes to reducing Pitta as well so it was really interesting to see how this treatment actually worked.
I went back upstairs to observe one of the patients we saw getting a procedure called “Pastya” which is to help migraines. It started with what I think was a prayer, then a face massage with medicated oil, then inhaling steam from boiling turmeric and other things in water under a towel, then dropping ghee in the nostrils and inhaling and spitting it out. After this I had lunch and talked with Kuann and Laura for a bit, then went back to see Dr. Abhignya as she was working on the abstract for her research. She was supposed to present it at 3 and I was actually able to help her write it and make some conclusions about the data that was collected which was really cool!
I went upstairs as Anger was visiting with her professor from Iowa and a friend of theirs from their program named Gina who’s been studying in Bangalore for the summer. We had a lot of nice conversations together. I was talking to Dr. Mina, their professor from Iowa, and turns out I know her daughter’s best friend as she went to Mount Allison for 2 years! Small world!
We all went to tea in the afternoon and had this dessert called Mangalore Bonda which was DELICIOUS. We got invited to the Doctor’s potluck being held at the next-door school that evening so after touring the school again I went back home to get ready.
Laura was hanging out with 2 doctors, Mythri and Kirthana so I went to their room to hang with them too as we got ready. We had snacks (Kodubale and Milk Peda) and laughs it was fun.
The potluck was also (mostly) fun. We played pictionary and sharades and had a really awesome meal. As we were eating, one of the Cornell girls was talking about how Ellen Degeneres was an example of a “non-problematic white woman” and I said that wasn’t true because she’s very supportive of PETA and the Anti-Sealing propaganda which is really hurting Inuit communities. The argument really escalated and apparently I was being “a bit aggressive” but she really was not getting what I was saying and was claiming that “sometimes people lose their jobs for the betterment of the environment like when we stopped coal mining”. She didn’t get that it actually isn’t an environmental issue, seal populations are higher than ever it’s just the mainstream media that makes it seem like an environmental issue. She advocated for an intersectional middle ground where we protect the environment and Inuit populations but she didn’t get that that wasn’t the point at all. 80% of commercial seal hunting is done by Indigenous populations. This isn’t an environmental issue we need to be concerned about. Anyway it fizzled but I was still mad and she looked upset so I went and talked to her and apologized if I “invalidated her degree” or whatever and we had a better discussion about how there are SO MANY MORE THINGS AT STAKE IN THIS than the coal mining industry. I think she finally got it.
Anyway Laura and I left because I was still kind of mad honestly. It sucks how devalued anything outside the mainstream media and knowledge system is, and it sucks being labeled as “aggressive” simply for defending my opinion. Like I was literally telling her my source is from my best friend who is Inuit and a documentary that was made from an Inuit perspective, and that’s not something that will ever be taught in America or prioritized by American media. Anyway, Laura, Kuann and I talked about this a lot when I got back home since they actually understood what I was trying to say and we talked for hours about a million different things. We talked about religion, and identity and knowledge systems and what we all believed it was SO cool. I could never summarize everything but Kuann did say something which I thought was really neat: “the concept of God is to tangibilize the energy that exists between us”. I really think that’s cool because she just believes in the energy in things and that God is everything around us and thus we should treat everything with respect and I really like that. God is the cycle of the ecosystem. Laura also mentioned something so cool about Indigenous knowledge in Mexico (Aztec). Coatlicue is the original goddess who represented female sexuality, birth, fertility etc. and she’s known as “the one with the skirt of serpents”. This is really interesting when you think about Adam and Eve and how Christianity demonizes the snake. Also, Laura mentioned that the Mexican flag has an eagle with a snake in its mouth and like that is an insanely powerful image: colonial Mexico represents the death of Indigenous spirituality. I’ve definitely questioned my Christianity a lot given all of this stuff I’ve been learning here, I definitely know there is something though and I know Christians do good work and it’ll always be important to me. We talked about death too and how much it’s dreaded in our culture, and Kuann talked about how she wanted her funeral to be a celeration. I told them about Uncle Cameron’s celebration of life and piping down the streets of Toronto and I just love that kind of energy to celebrate a life. That’s what it should be about. Like it’s going to be sad no matter what, might as well not make it sadder. Anyway I’m so happy I’m here with people like Kuann and Laura, and that we get to learn so much from each other and have these kinds of discussions so often and so easily.

Hope y’all are having a wonderful day!!
Summary: Zack hardly even remembered how he got the idea to enchant the pasta — that's how eager he'd been to act upon it once the idea did strike him. Something, something eating dinner at Spike's house then seeing a box of noodles on the counter and then realizing he had a mastered Sleep on him and then remembering some obscure lesson when he was only a ShinRa cadet of the dangers of mixing materia and inanimate objects.
~
Aka, an AU in which some laced seafood noodles and some motherly manipulation saves the day!
