day 22, hatefucking
gavin reed x reader warnings: nsfw 18+, im back on my gavin bullshit, rough sex, unprotected sex, creampie, gavin teases reader (just a lil bit), fluff at the end kinktober ☠︎︎ main masterlist ☠︎︎ read on ao3
Gavin Reed was callous, ignorant, and ruthlessly ambitious. He was always getting in your way. He was always questioning what you were doing as if you were an amateur. And you hated him.
But, he always left his mark when he fucked you. Whether it was a bite mark on your shoulder or hickies littering your body, he always ensured you remembered him. Tonight was no exception.
Tonight, he wasn’t in the mood for pleasantries as he stormed into your apartment and practically dragged you into your bedroom. Tonight, Gavin’s fingertips left their mark as he gripped the plush skin of your hips and pounded into you from behind.
Something must’ve pissed him off, but his sour mood never surprised you. Not anymore. He was never livid enough not to kiss you as he undressed you, deft fingers and indiscriminate touch leaving you naked and writhing under his touch.
Gavin wrapped a hand around your neck and pulled you up so you were flush against his chest. His lips ghosted over your shoulder and neck and your pulse thumped under his fingertips.
“Fuckin’ take me so well, sweetheart,” he praised from behind you.
The sound of your nickname tumbling past his lips made you clench around him. His voice was raspy and his words were slurred, and you hated the way it turned you on. You hated the satisfaction that filled you knowing that he had a nickname just for you.
Gavin grinned against the crease of your neck, smug as always.
“My sweetheart,” he purred as he snapped his hips against yours. You groaned out his name as his free hand skirted over your body, squeezing and kneading wherever he could.
You grabbed onto his forearm for dear life as you felt the familiar pressure building in your core. You’d memorized the feeling of his skin under your fingertips the first time you’d slept together. Strong muscles gone soft from days spent sitting at a desk. He was always there to ground you when your mind got too muddled from the sensation of him, him, him.
“I‘m close, please, please let me cum,” you begged, words slurring together. You were drunk on the feeling of him and you were so close.
“Fuckin’ love when you beg, sweetheart,” he murmured into the crook of your shoulder. He dragged his free hand down your body until it reached where you joined. He drew tight circles around your clit, and the coil inside you snapped.
You groaned his name as you came, and your orgasm wracked through your body. Gavin was quick to follow you off the precipice. Thick, white jets of his cum shoot inside you and cover your walls. You whined at the sensation, loving the way he filled you.
After the twitching of his cock ceased, he loosened his hold on you and you rested on your elbows as you caught your breath.
“Fuck,” he breathed as he slowly pulled out of you and watched as his release dripped over your folds and down your thighs.
You rolled over onto your back and scanned over his features. The city lights highlighted his features delicately, and all you wanted to do was run your fingertips over them. His touch was delicate as he cleaned the both of you up, starkly contrasting the brutal thrusts of his hips just moments again.
He laid down beside you, and your eyes widened as he pulled you into his side.
You pressed a hand against his chest, feeling his heartbeat thrum against your fingertips. “Fowler piss you off again?”
He let out a laugh, “Something like that.”
You nuzzled against his side and murmured, “Still hate me?”
“Definitely, sweetheart,” he replied softly, wrapping his arms tightly around you. “Go to sleep.”
And so you fall gently asleep in Gavin’s embrace, willing to ignore the way your heart will ache when he wordlessly leaves in the morning. He’d come back. He always did.

Gavin Reed x gn!Detective!reader
Hank isn't looking forward to working with you and Detective Reed on the scene of a murder. However, when he arrives, he notices something rather obvious going on between you and Gavin.
[A/N]: Hey everyone! We interrupt your regular Jason Todd programming to bring you...Gavin Reed? If you've read my other Detroit oneshot, you'll probably notice that this is the same concept, except with Gavin Reed instead of RK900. I love them both and I think they deserve some attention. The reader is gender-neutral but Hank (playing the role of Sherlock here) does mention that Gavin is wearing men's deodorant and so is the reader, which Hank uses to imply that they've been ~together~.
warnings: implied sexual references, glaring absence of beta reading
read here on ao3
Parked on the side of a residential street, Hank Anderson stepped out of the passenger seat of his squad car, too drunk to drive but too sober to turn down a new homicide case. The second his shoe hit the pavement, another squad car barreled past. Its wheels kicked up a wall of muddy water from last night’s storm, leaving Hank drenched.
“Are you alright, Lieutenant?” Asked Connor as he exited from the driver’s side.
“Yeah,” Hank grumbled, shaking himself off and following Connor to the yellow holographic tape surrounding the crime scene. “Guess that’s one way to get sobered up.”
“Ah, there they are. Lieutenant Anderson and his plastic prick of a partner.” Drawled Gavin Reed from behind the yellow tape.
“I’m here to see Detective L/N,” Said Hank, unfazed by yet another showing of Gavin’s barbed tongue.
“Why?” Gavin replied petulantly.
“He was invited,” Connor supplied. “I think Captain Fowler wants us to help analyze the crime scene.
“Well, you know what I think, don’t you?” Gavin fired back. Hank shot Connor a glare. Not helping, Connor.
“No shit, Gavin, of course I do.” Hank pushed past the holographic tape, but paused just as he brushed past Gavin.
“What?”
“You didn’t make it home last night, did you?” Hank muttered, side-eyeing the belligerent detective.
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” Gavin spat. Sighing forcefully and muttering a string of curses under his breath, he stormed away. “Hank and the fuckin android’re here, bringing ‘em in,” he announced into his radio. Hank and Connor crossed the front yard to the porch, where you were just exiting the house where the victim lay in congealed blood.
“Hello, Lieutenant, Connor.” You greeted the pair in your most cordial voice. “As always, this is a crime scene.” You leaned subtly closer to Hank, whispering in a threatening tone, “Try not to contaminate it.”
“L/N, good to see you again,” Hank chuckled. “Don’t worry, Connor’ll have my hide if I so much as breathe on a sensitive piece of evidence.” His eyes twinkled as he looked you over. “Your landlady outta town?”
“Uh…why are you asking?” You frowned, puzzled.
“Hey hey hey, what’s the hold up over here? We’re on an active crime scene and we’re running on borrowed time!” Gavin complained loudly as he approached the detectives.
“And you, Reed,” Hank’s zeroed in on the feisty detective. “Didn’t make it home last night? At least get someone to feed your cats for you.”
“The fuck are you talking about?”
“And your deodorant,” Hank pressed on.
“What about it?” Gavin was growing increasingly combative.
“It’s men’s deodorant,” Hank continued.
“Obviously—”
“Detective L/N’s also wearing it,” Clearly amused, Hank raised his brows at the two of you. “Coincidence?” You opened your mouth to say something, but the lieutenant cut you off. “And don’t think nobody noticed that thing on your neck.” Gavin was incensed.
“You son of a bitch—”
“Listen, Hank,” You caught Gavin’s forearm before he could lunge at the man. “Now’s not the time for this discussion. Can we please save this for later?”
“Oh, come on. I don’t care what you two are doing off the clock, but if Fowler finds out, I’m not covering your asses.” You sighed in defeat.
“You know what, I’ll take it. Thanks, Hank.”
“Anytime. Come on, Connor, let’s go check out this mess.” Connor, who had been silently observing the exchange and concealing his amusement with the skill of Cyberlife’s most advanced investigator prototype, followed Hank into the house without further question.
“Yes, Lieutenant.”
~~~~~~~~PLEASE HELP ME I NEED A BETTER DIVIDER~~~~~~~~~~
[A/N]: So what do we think, folks? Does Gavin wear something generic like Old Spice? Or is he the type of guy who wears cologne? Now that I've written that down, that question sounds hella creepy ("hmm what does this fictional male character smell like?"). But I really do wanna know if he makes enough money as a police detective to wear Dior Sauvage on the regular or something like that bc I feel like if he could he totally would.
Hope you guys enjoyed! Until next time x
let me know if you want to be added to the general taglist!
This is a weird way to come back into writing fics again, but here's a very vaguely edited fic that I wrote a while back to get me back into the groove of posting. I hope you like sick reader x snarky bastard fics lol.
Thoroughly Analyzed (rk900 x reader)
Word Count: 1,005
"Oh fuck off, Gavin, I'm not sick!"
You all but sputtered, your cheeks dusted a light pink as you stood in front of your friend and coworker's desk, arms crossed and hip cocked to the side while you eyed him with as much disdain as you could muster.
"Are you being serious, dumb ass? You babysat Chris' kid while it had the flu four days ago, and now you're drinking tea and popping cough drops at your desk like it's your job. Just admit you were an idiot and go home."
You scoffed, glaring at Gavin as you moved away to sit down in your desk chair before turning it to face him once more.
"It wasn't a bad idea for me to babysit the kid, Reed, and I definitely did not get sick because of an eighteen month old child. Now do you have anything of substance to say, or can I finally get back to work?"
You watched as Gavin rolled his eyes, chuckling slightly under his breath as he turned his attention back to his monitor,
"Yeah yeah, whatever you say, loser. Good luck nursing yourself back to health without taking a day off work."
Fighting the urge to flip off your coworker, you instead turned your gaze towards your own monitor, only to find yourself looking right above it and into the eyes of your department's rk900 model android, who had long since been dubbed 'Nines'.
You swallowed thickly, wincing shortly thereafter at the pain that action caused within your throat before catching yourself and forcing a polite smile,
"Hey Nines, what's up?"
You asked as casually as you could manage, watching as the android in question raised a brow before motioning towards Gavin, who had started watching your interaction the moment you'd spoken aloud.
You shrugged, trying not to pay your human coworker too much mind as you cleared your throat again awkwardly before attempting to speak once more, though your voice did sound notably strained this time,
"Reed told me last week that babysitting Chris' kid while he was sick was a bad idea because it was sure to get me sick too. I told him that my body was strong enough to fight off whatever an eighteen month old had, and he bet me twenty bucks that I'd be too sick to come to work within the week. That was four days ago, and now he's doing his best to convince me to go home since he's gotten it in his head that I caught the flu from the kid."
Nines' gaze was cold and stern as he stood, his arms crossed as he took a step closer,
"Did you?"
He asked, and you allowed yourself a moment to get lost in said gaze, however cold it may have been, before snapping out of it, remembering your promise to keep things professional at work.
Wouldn't want anyone catching on, after all.
"Wha- no, of course I didn't."
You sputtered nervously, hearing Gavin chuckle as he watched you from his seat, clearly amused and more than a little entertained.
"Are you sure about that, Detective?"
Nines pressed, taking another two steps closer to where you were sitting as he watched you calmly, a slight smirk making its way to his lips all the while.
"Because I have noticed a bit of a drop in your performance throughout the past two days, and it is part of policy that sick employees remain at home for necessary rest."
You shivered at the sound of Nines' voice, but did your best to play it cool despite your physical reaction to his now significantly closer presence.
"I-I'm fine I promise. I think I've just been a little tired, is all..."
You trailed off as the android in question moved to stand directly beside you, his hand falling to the back of your chair and turning it in his direction, thus forcing you to face him head on as he gazed down at you intently, that smirk remaining all the while.
"Oh really? Well, if you're just tired, I don't suppose you'd mind a routine test of your health?"
"A routine test of my health? No but what exactly-"
You were cut off by a pair of familiar lips crashing into yours as an equally familiar hand moved to cup your chin, tilting your face upward as you gasped into the kiss, eyes fluttering closed against your will. You remained this way for several seconds, until finally, Nines pulled away, humming as he looked down at you with both amusement and exasperation evident in his expression,
"According to my analysis of your saliva, you are suffering from the common flu, detective. Please gather your things and allow me to bring you home. I will inform the captain of our absence."
Unable to argue, you nodded meekly, your hand briefly raising to touch your subtly bruised lips before you snapped out of it and hurried to get your things together, trying desperately to ignore Gavin's shocked expression all the while.
Nines, on the other hand, seemed eager to bask in your shared coworker's surprise, and was in no apparent rush to leave, gathering his own belongings with the swift and relaxed ease that seemed to come so naturally to him.
Once everything was together, however, he made no effort to poke at Gavin further, simply guiding you by your elbow to the door as Reed began to follow suit, sputtering various questions, most of which were nonsensical and jumbled.
Eventually though, as the front door loomed before the two of you, Nines did stop and turn towards the man, his lips twitching upward ever so slightly as he smoothly withdrew his wallet from his pocket before reaching into it, his gaze never leaving Gavin's all the while.
"Oh, and thank you for your concern for my partner's well being, Detective Reed."
He said cheekily as he handed the man in question a twenty dollar bill before exiting the building entirely with you at his side.
Yandere Gavin Reed x Reader
I know he's not an android but I'm a Gavin Reed apologist (even though I recognize he's a piece of shit and that's shown here haha) and btw "Gavin Reed's cat" is a character tag I can add on Quotev and Ao3?? He doesn't even canonically have one??? But I like the headcanon and seeing that gave me the idea to write this, so yeah, thanks to that for inspiration :)
The text notification sound nearly makes you jump off of the couch. The blanket wrapped around your body would've fallen off, too, if it hadn't been for the way it holds you tighter than you suffocate the sofa pillow in your gripping hug. Tear stains fade against the pillow's surface.
Your phone flares to life against the dark living room of Gavin's apartment. It lays on the low coffee table before you, distracting you from the torturous sound of the TV's background noise. You had to leave it on a children's show, because every other channel displays some kind of ugly argument about the newfound freedom of androids.
The phone's light extinguishes. You had hesitated too long. Realizing that makes you take a sharp breath and reach over to correct your mistake, just in case it's who you think it is. It's a mistake you can't afford to make right now. You read the text.
Gavin: Gonna be home soon. You fed Bastard right? I forgot to this morning
Your fingers dig into the phone case like you want to tear it apart. Still, you text back a quick confirmation and prepare to throw your phone to the side. But you bite your lip and set it down on the cushion instead. When another notification sound pops you, you don't bother to look at the screen again, knowing it'll just be a thumbs-up emoji or something equally stupid.
Your body aches as you sink back into the sofa. You definitely left left a deep indent on the furniture by now, but there's no point in getting up. You know there's nothing worth doing in this dim apartment, and yet, your bored mind scans the room anyway. Your gaze lands on the loveseat positioned away from the sofa.
A cat lays on it. Her collar jingles as she digs her claws into the cushion beneath her. Various scars are scattered around it. Even if a stranger saw the seat without her on it, they would be able to tell where her favorite spot is. Her nametag shines against the light of the TV; Bastard.
You used to laugh whenever you heard her name, but now it only makes you roll your eyes. It's just so like Gavin to give his beloved pet a vulgar name. It's just so like him to keep a pet that is so very clearly his, with her dark brown fur that's reminiscent of his hair, and her arrogant stance that makes you feel like you're not even part of her little world. But... at the very least, she looks much softer and warmer than the pillow you've been clinging onto for the past few hours.
Memories of her viscious hisses and destructive actions tell you that you're stupid for even considering it, but she might brighten your day a bit, and that potential is good enough foe you.
You jump off the sofa and head towards the corner of the living room, where a cat tree tower looms over you. Just one of many gifts you never saw her touch. Gavin likes to tell you that she uses it all the time, just never when you're around.
You bought it for her over a year ago. You thought for sure that she would've warmed up to you by now, but even when you grab the mouse toy that hangs off of it, she narrows her eyes at you.
You take your time as you approach her. You hang the toy over her head, which makes her eyes soften and her body sit up. You smile. The first smile of the day even though it's now dark outside.
She follows the toy's every move. You begin to laugh as she tries to stand up and reach it. You crouch down, letting her snatch it between her paws.
With that same smile, you lean over to grab--
She slashes her claws. You gasp and flinch away, holding your arm against your chest. Blood leaks from a long cut on the side of your lower arm. Her hiss only makes the pain sear. She steals the toy in her mouth before running off deeper into apartment, where it's untouched by light.
You speed towards the kitchen and flip the lights on. You find the first-aid kit in the cabinets and throw the bandages on the counter. After turning the sink on, a torrent of water hits your wound and drowns the blood in the drain, just as your thoughts do-- Of course she would do this. She never wants to play. Why do you keep wasting time on her? Why do you keep being so dumb? Why are you such an idiot?
You press down on your wound. A whimper breaks out of your throat, but you don't stop. It's not to stop the bleeding, but to make your inner voice shut up.
And yet, you can't block out the truth that's now pouring into your bloodstream, through the cut that forced you open. No matter what you do, you'll never truly have a good relationship with this cat. You can try all you want, but even if you find something that feels like it works, it won't be long until she lashes out again.
Your eyes dart back to your phone for a second. She's not the only one who treats you this way.
That thought sticks in your head above all else. You turn off the sink and gaze at your arm. The bleeding has passed and the blood's gone down the drain. Another question arises-- Why do you bother staying in a place that'll just make you unhappy?
Almost as if you had been waiting for this moment subconsciously, a list of excuses sound off. Gavin won't let you leave him so easily. Even if you left right now, you'd be leaving a lot of things behind. Building a new life without him isn't something you can even imagine right now. The worst part is that all those excuses are true. You try to come up with arguments against them... until you hear the sound of the front door opening.
Your injury suddenly feels much worse than before. You rush around in search of the bandages you left. The call of your name makes you freeze.
Gavin strides through the entrance hallway, ready to say something, but he stops when he sees you staring back at him like a deer in headlights. He squints his eyes in confusion. "The hell's up with you?"
You stumble over your words for the next few seconds. He playfully scoffs as he approaches. You can't flee before he snatches your shoulder and crashes his lips against yours. It takes too long for him to pull away, just like it always does.
"I had a great day, thanks for asking." A light-hearted chuckle accompanies his sarcasm. His hand shifts from your shoulder to your waist. "The plastic prick wasn't at the station today. Hank said something about Sumo having to go to the vet, so he let the android have the day off. Can you believe that?"
He laughs until you say, "Why couldn't I?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot, you're an android fucker," He laughs again, but with a much snarkier tone. "You think it's okay for them to be able to take breaks, while I gotta bust my ass all the time, and they don't even get tired."
"It's not really taking a break if he's taking his dog to the vet."
"Hank's dog, and look, lets not get into this shit the moment I get home." Now both of his hands land on you, and it makes you tense. He brings his face closer. His whole body seems to trap yours into a corner. "After all, I've been waiting all day to see you..."
You slap his hands off. "Do you seriously think I wanna be around you after what you did this morning?"
His eyebrows furrow and he stares at you. It goes on long enough that it feels like he actually forgot about it, and the mere idea of that makes your teeth grind.
Right as you open your mouth to remind him, he sighs. He pinches his nose in exasperation. "Fuck, I didn't think you'd still be mad about that."
"What?" Your eyes shoot open wide. "You threatened to throw my phone off the roof!"
"I was joking, obviously!" He threw his hands up.
"Joking? You were yelling at me! You tore it out of my hands and waved it around like you were gonna throw it at me any moment! You told me you'd never let me visit you at work again!"
He bares his teeth, letting his hands fall back against his sides with a loud sound, and he tries to speak. But you cut him off. "And it was all for nothing! Connor wasn't even there, like you said, so all that did nothing."
"But I bet you still texted him while I was gone, right?" His bared teeth twist into a grin, though you can see twinges of pain laced within it. "Maybe even invited him over and had some fun? Bet you kept playing me for a fucking fool--"
"No, I didn't, because you made me block him, and..." You gasp for desperate breath, before forcing your wounded arm into his face. "I was too busy taking care of your cat, who did this to me!"
His jaw slacks. It's almost as if you can feel his surprise pour into you as his eyes peer through your injury. Then, after a short pause, he lets out a slurred swear and tugs your arm forward.
You try to pull out of his grasp. He takes the bandages you left behind and yells, "Stop being difficult, damn it!"
Gavin traps you against the counter as he dresses your wound. He concentrates entirely on your arm and keeps a strong grip on it so you can't struggle away. Frustration teems your whole body, but there's nothing you can do in this position, so you stay silent. His eyes occasionally sneak glances at you, and with each time he eases into a smirk.
After the finishing touch, he rests your arm back to your side, but he never lets go. "You realize now why I named her Bastard?"
"I realized why a long time ago."
"Yeah. She was the one who gave me this." He points to the faded scar across his nose. "Heh, she probably meant to aim for your face instead. Wanted to give us matching scars."
He still smirks like he expects you to laugh. When you only give him a glare, he returns it with greater intensity.
"You're looking at me like I'm the asshole, but you're the one who was talking to someone else behind my back, to a--" He grunts. "A thing you know I hate. You think I don't have a damn good reason to be mad at you?"
"I only hid it from you because I knew you'd get like this again. You never listen when you're mad. You just start yelling. You always, always yell at me..."
You have to pause for a moment. Is he even listening now? His eyes fixate on you, but his hard expression makes it difficult to know if your words reach him. Still, you continue. "I can never explain myself to you. I swore so many times that he's just my friend, but you never believe me!"
"Oh, so now you want me to believe you?" He speaks like he's bewildered. "I asked you this morning if you still loved me... If you still loved me over that thing... and what did you say?"
You stare back at him.
"That's right. You didn't say shit." He attempts another grin, but it crumbles and collapses the moment he tries. He opens his mouth to say more, but it clamps shut when pain flashes across his eyes.
Before you can even process that glimpse of vulnerability, he pulls you into his chest. In a strained tone, he says, "I'm not losing you to a goddamn android. Get that into your head so I don't gotta knock it into you somehow."
He squeezes your wrist one last time before finally releasing. You hold that same wrist and step away. The urge to say something gnaws at your tongue, but there's nothing you can say after what he just said.
"I'm gonna go take a shower. Think of what we're gonna have for dinner while I'm gone, okay?" Even though his voice sounds softer than it's ever been, it leaves prickles on your skin. They roll back and forth with each heavy footstep he takes down the hallway. When he slams the bathroom door shut, they pierce through you.
You stare down that hallway with an empty look. It feels like the bandage constricts around your arm, cutting off your blood flow, like Gavin is still holding onto you even after he left the room. You'll never be comfortable if you leave it on.
You'll never be comfortable if you stay here.
So you won't. You speed around the apartment to gather some of your things that you left laying around (you can't grab everything; it's been so long since you've left this place, and remembering that makes you grimace) before heading towards the entrance. For a while, it's like nothing can stop your rampage.
But you freeze when you reach the front door.
Bastard cements herself on the doormat with her back pressed against the door. She leers at you like she thinks she's a tiger. As she sinks her claws into her mouse toy, its stuffing leaks out.
Just looking at it makes you wince and hold onto your injured arm. She doesn't stop tearing the toy up even once it's limp, and it makes you wonder how many other toys have held the same fate: one of many honest attempts from you to get on her good side, only for it to end up in the trash, and replaced by you just to begin the cycle again. It's a waste of money... and love.
Just being here is a waste, but... You shake your head as you watch Bastard crush the toy underneath her chest. What's going to happen if you try to leave like this?
You already know. There will only be yelling, and blaming, and threats. Potentially, not-so-empty ones. But you'll have to deal with that regardless if you stay or not-- As long as Gavin is in your life, that's all there will ever be. So why not at least choose the option where you might get away?
Your heart races, but you reach over to open the door anyway. Bastard hisses and gets up to strike. You step outside without another look back.
× × ×
I probably won't make a sequel but you most likely get kidnapped after this lol just so you know :P don't get too happy :]
Coffee ||| Gavin Reed x Reader
You've always had a crush on the unapproachable detective, and finally it seems he's returning the interest.
———————————————
Request - Anonymous : Can I request a Gavin Reed x Reader. I don't really care what, but can it be fluff? :)
Pairing: Gavin Reed x Gender Neutral ! Reader
Relationship: Romantic
Tone: Fluff
Word Count: 1.3k
Oneshot Masterlist
A/N: I’m finally getting to answering requests. University has been... something alright. I'm sorry for the wait. There will be more Gavin fluff to come in the future too, if this wasn’t fluffy enough. Plus the other requests I'm yet to write! (Reposting this because I had to fix the tag issue)
———————————————
It was nearing midday when you arrived at the Detroit Police Station to start your shift, two cups of steaming coffee in your left hand, carried neatly in a cardboard holder. The bright light of the high sun was enough to fuel the smile on your face. The gentle breeze of late spring pushed you forward. Simply put, you were lucky today.
The altered hours meant you didn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn, instead sleeping in for a little while longer. You could take your morning routine slow and steady, and finish writing and preparing the documents for the day to come. Your apartment was cleaned before you could so much as dirty it, and you were practically ready to return home from the job you were yet to begin.
It also meant that when you left your home you had just missed the initial wave of customers and usuals you always saw queuing up inside of your favourite café. It was empty when you entered – your ride parked outside – and it was empty when you left the building, satisfied with your order. Now, you were scanning your DPD identification card on the staff entry after greeting the receptionists. There was a very obvious bounce of eagerness in your step that caused the small heels of your work shoes to clack against the dark, tiled floor.
Clack clack clack as you walked through the small plastic gates that marked the border of one large room from the other.
To your surprise, as you walked along the windowed wall, the bullring was primarily empty. There were no heads peeking from past the plexiglass that functioned as dividers. No laughter of the detectives that worked diligently at their decorated desks. And other than the quiet voices of policemen coming from the break room and the Captain's muffled responses to a phone call coming from inside his office, the overall room was uncharacteristically quiet. Even as you moved to where your eyes kept flickering, constantly glancing at the empty desk of a particular detective, the silence persevered for long enough to etch a childish pout onto your lips. Like most other seats, Gavin’s was empty.
Gavin Reed. Through the weeks you've got to know him, and even since just starting your job as a forensic pathologist at the station, you started to recognise your blooming crush for the detective. And ever since you have, your actions were quite the opposite of 'subtle'. In your eyes, there was no reason to pretend they weren't there. You liked the guy, and you weren't going to hide from those emotions.
You've left him chocolates; small snacks; little trinkets you believed he would like. Well, trinkets that disappeared from his near-empty desk the very next day, but no matter. You even started leaving some cheesy pick up lines that made you chuckle, written neatly on cream sticky notes you carried in your coat pocket out of a forced habit. You tried suggesting outings, yet he always ignored your suggestions. Brushed you off for the lack of a better word.
And now, with the steadily cooling coffee cups in hand, it wasn’t much different.
Slowly, you stepped around the short wall and towards the empty desk, glancing around in hopes of catching his eye. You knew he was here, if the slight blue glow of the power switch on the monitor was anything to go by. His jacket was draped on the back of his chair, and a small drop of a dark drink was splashed next to a ring of moisture. There were papers on the desk too, placed a little ways away from where a mug had obviously been placed, paired with blurry images of undisclosed origin. A new case he was working on you assumed.
Nevertheless, with another look around, your right hand gingerly pushed the documents to the side, not bothering to neaten them into an even stack. You prioritised removing the paper coffee cup from the holder, politely labelled 'Hot Stuff' as per your request, and placing it down in the now clear centre of the surface. You just hoped he wasn't too full or caffeinated from whatever he had beforehand.
Quickly reaching into your pocket, you pulled out your trusty sticky notes and reached for the ballpoint pen that sat in the breast pocket of your work issued shirt. Tapping the butt end of the pen against your chin, you blinked in thought before your lips twitched up and you scribbled down a little message on the small square of paper, a terrible pun you hoped would make his day. You didn't hesitate sticking it on the white plastic of the cup.
“Words cannot espresso how much you bean to me.”
You practically flinched at the sound of the deep voice that appeared out of nowhere, your right hand darting for the remaining cup of coffee in the holder to keep it steady as you spun around, sucking in a sharp breath at the proximity you had to Gavin. A breath that caused the man to take a step back with a slight cock of his head. Detective Reed was standing in front of you, his body weight resting on his hip as his arms crossed in front of his chest, eyebrows raised in what you assumed was humour.
And yet neither of you spoke until the silence began to threaten to thicken in the layer of awkwardness.
"Sorry detective," you began, averting your eyes and looking anywhere but at him, "I didn't see you at your desk so I thought I'd just leave the coffee here. It's still hot."
What was hot was the heat in your face, your cheeks and ears no doubt a shade darker than before. Your lips had contorted into a mix of a wonky smirk and the visible effort of you trying to straighten them. Your jaw was clenched, your breathing forced down to a steady pace on your will alone. Refusing to look back, finding the uneven flicker of a distant light quite entertaining, your eyes moved to him when a short puff of hair escaped him.
You could see a sparkle in his dark eyes, the very same you fell in love with. The very same you bought coffee for. Yet this was the first time he willingly confronted you instead of keeping his distance. This-
“What are you doing this weekend?”
What?
With the way his brows furrowed, causing his scar to crease against his skin in the process, you were certain that your bewildered expression was caught by the man. However, other than actively avoiding your wondrous gaze, he didn’t take any action to move or to clarify his words and the meaning behind them. The most he did was readjust his crossed arms and scratch the stubble at the base of his jaw.
“Nothing. I should be free.”
A beat of silence passed, your heart fluttering with hope. Then he nodded.
“Meet me at the café down the street at two in the afternoon. Saturday.”
Did he…?
“Okay!”
You felt your spirit physically lift your body, eagerness blooming in your mind at Gavin's words. Genuine joy made your eyes no doubt shine, feeling them grow wetter as more of his words processed and your vision grew slightly blurry because of the saline. He just asked you out on a date. You couldn't believe it. The grin on your lips couldn’t have been bigger as you nodded, feeling your body grow in energy with the increasing serotonin. Your cheeks stung at the intensity of your smile. You were so happy.
However, before you could add to the conversation, your lips frozen ajar, you heard your name be called from the other side of the room, forcing you to excuse yourself and officially start your shift.
“I’ll see you then, Detective!”
Gavin Reed has asked you out on a date.
coffee shop (Nines x reader x gavin)
i was searching for stories with nines and gavin x reader but didn't found many (not forcelly implying smut but i'll do that in an another one shot lol)
warnings : strong language, violence, possessive theme, toxic ex, abusive past relationship, torture, manipulation, kidnapping
Might do a part 2? Idk yet
-------------------
you were just working in a coffee shop nearby the dpd locals. So it was natural that often, the people working there would come get lunch, drinks or just a snack. tho one day one person intrigued you. It was a tall android, the same one as the android named connor who passed many times taking snacks and coffee for the lieutenant of the dpd. but he was taller, had grey-blue eyes instead of warm dark chocolates eyes and his voice was more firm and strict. You got him his order and looked at him with your marker pen in your hand.
"a name on the cup sir ?"
"you can put gavin on it, oh and please write a litlle 'dickhead' with a heart under, it's for my partner"
you smiled and laughed at the little "attention" and looked where the android customer was looking, a shorter man who was pouting on the outside of the store was sitting on a bench. The android smirked and got back to you, he gave of a cold impression but he didn't seem so heartless, after all deviancy was a normal thing in detroit now.
"sure no problem"
you giggled and did what he asked and handed him the cup.
"have a good day sir"
"you too miss"
while cleaning the counter you could see the did say gavin shouting at his partner then getting kissed, he blushed and hurried into a police car. You happily smiled to yourself, at least some people got chance in love unlike you.
After one good month you suspected that your boyfriend was even more weird than usual, he always asked you at what hour you were coming back from work, with who you were hanging out but lately, you found some blue liquid in the house that you suspected being thirium, and sometimes big sounds were coming from the basement. He always told you that it was him working for his work or others things to excuse the hints that he was doing something weird.
you decided that it was enough and you were going to talk to someone at the dpd about all of that after work. The android wich you finally know his name who was nines and gavin his partner came in the coffee shop to take a snack before going home as they did every friday. You took their order and came back with it, putting it on their table.
"Here you are guys !" you said happily while smiling to both of them, since they came often you began to be friends with them.
"thank you y/n" said gavin before sipping his coffee, nines looked at you and scanned you, your stress level was higher than usual.
"y/n is there anything wrong ? you seem stressed" gavin got his gaze back on you as the android spoke while you hugged the tray to your chest and swallowed your saliva, nervous about the confession you were going to do.
"actually yes..my..boyfriend has been acting strange this past month, i suspect him of doing something very bad in the basement of our hous.."
when you were going to go further in your explication, your boss called for you.
"oh hum i should go, i'll explain tomorrow then" you were making your way to go but nines took your wrist
"wait you can come at our hous tonight and explaine us, you always you would like to see our appartment so here is the change" the android slightly smiled at you and that made you blush a bit
"sure why not, if it's okay with gavin of course" you both looked the 3rd person around the table and he looked away, his cheeks reddened
"yeah sure whateva" he sipped his cup while you got away to finish your day.
"do you think it's a good idea thin can ? she said she has a boyfriend after all" Reed looked at his own boyfriend wo was sitting back on his chair
"i saw y/n with bruises on her wirsts and on her neck the other day, it seemed that it was an average man who did that to her" he sipped his thirium drink, glancing in your directions where you were laughing with a colleague
"you don't think that she-" gavin looked also at you then back at nines who slowly nodded his head
"maybe but perhaps it's what she wants to talk about tonight, you know we can't act without enough evidences"
gavin agreed and they leaved, after all they had to prepare diner for tonight.
But they didn't know that your boyfriend was worse than planned.
You prepared yourself, makeup and a pretty outfit to go out, you just wanted to feel pretty but your boyfriend didn't seem to see it like that, he grabbed firmly your wirst and squeezed it, you whimpered while protecting your face with your other hand.
"you are doing this for who !? where are you going !?"
"i-i just wanted to be pretty that's all ! leave me alone please you are hurting me.."
your phone buzzed and lighted himself, your partner got off of your wirst and readed the message
'yo y/n we are waiting for you, me and the tin can, are you on your way ?'
he crashed your phone into his fist and throwed it right into your nose, making it bleed. You pinched it with your hand while he pulled your hair
" i knew it you fucking bicth ! you are cheating on me ! and the worst thing is that it's with one man and a fucking walking computer !"
he beated you so you got uncouscious, he then dragged you to the basement, and your worst fears were proved, a bunch of 10 androids were beated up and destroyed, many knifes, bats and other weapons to make them suffer, they looked at you and helped you getting on the wall to take some sleep.
gavin and nines pov :
gavin was stomping in all of the living room while nines was sitting straight on the couch
" fuck nines it as been 3 hours ! she readed my message but didn't respond ! what if something happened to her ?"
nines got up and took his boyfriend's hands in his and looked at him, his led blinking in a stressful red-yellow shade.
"i'm worried too but you know we have to wait until 24 hours to said someone is missing, maybe she felt asleep because of her work ?"
"i hope so.."
the next day the dpd took a call from your boss, he siad youw eren't at work and that you didn't prevent him, wich was not how you behave usually. some coworkers of yours came and explained that sometimes they saw you with bruises on your body, one time you even came with a black eye, so they all suspected your boyfriend.
Fowler had took hank, gavin, nines and connor on the case, since nines and gavin were close to you they could have a clue of what happened, they all sitted near hank's desk, connor on his, gavin standing up and nines sitting on the edge of connor's desk.
"so what do you knew about her, did she said anything to you ?" hank asked, looking at the pair while connor was searching for your adress
"well not exactly, we invited her into our house yesterday night because she said her boyfriend had a weird behavior and she wanted to talk about it" gavin said, a coffee in the hand
"yes and also i noticed many bruises on her wirst and neck who was coming from an average man" completed nines
"i see, connor you got the adress ?" the lieutenant got up and putted his jacket on
"yes hank, she don't live that far away but we have to take the cars"
the group of 4 all got into a car and reached to your house, the two on the back side stressing more than the two on the front.
They ringed to your door, no response, Connor tried again but there was no response even after that. Hank took his gun and so did Gavin, they didn't liked each other but they could behave in a case like that. Nine unlocked the door and they all came in, there was no one in the house. They were going to leave but they heard something fall in the basement. Nines and Gavin got to enter it while hank and Connor were still up in case someone came back. Gavin break the door and they couldn't see at first wag was going on by how dark it was, nines put the lights on and what they saw was.. Horrifying.. Many androids were ripped apart, many dead androids too but more important, you were here, tied up to a wall like a dog and you were hurt, Gavin runned to you and called an ambulance while nines helped the Few androids who survived.
"come one y/n keep your eyes open! The ambulance is coming!"
He putted pressure on your wounds but that's when they heard yelling and shots upstairs, Connor got to the basement
"we got the man who was behind all of this, he is injured but nothing who could cause his dead"
You got in the ambulance to get healed up and the androids could get repaired. When you woke up, many androids that you helped got you presents to thank you, you told the dpd all about your boyfriend did to you and these poor androids so he could go in jail. After all of that your normal life came back as usual, getting out of the dpd department nines and Gavin reached to you.
" y/n please wait for us" said nines with a little smirk
Gavin had a big blush on his face and handed you (favorite flower) with a box of chocolates
"it was my idea but Gavin insisted to gave them to you-"
Gavin gave a deadly stare at his boyfriend and you laughed while smelling the flowers
"thank you you too, I appreciate it, maybe we should get this dinner that we never got tonight?"
You kissed gavin's then nine's cheek and got away, smiling. Nines laughed slightly while Gavin was pouting as usual
"fucking-"
"she will never scease to amaze me"
"what about me tincan? I'm a fucking ghost?"
"no but you are very predictable detective"
And all of that ended in a playful fight between the boys before they headed home to prepare the dinner
Les avoir, c'est avoir les ètoiles
Connor (dbh) x gn!reader
Fluff // pining // accidental confession
Summary - Connor pines over you at the police department until he sees Gavin Reed trying to flirt with you. The android puts the asshole in his place and kind of declares his love for you by accident.
Connor>>>> ps he can speak French in this because I said so u.u
Warning - implied harassment?
Word count - 968
Connors LED blinked a soft, calming blue as he watched you from his desk. Aside from work, you had become his latest obsession and you hadn't seemed to notice it yet.
He leant forward in his chair as you began to disappear further into the break room, lifing his head to get a better view. Hank kicked the desk as he noticed Connor, catching his attention.
"Go say something or get on with your work for Christ's sake," Hank grumbled as he looked at the android.
Hank had had enough of witnessing Connor pining after you, constantly getting distracted whenever you were around. The android acted differently around you, constantly fumbling and staring.
"I can't do that," He whispered, his eyes darting to Hank.
When he looked back to you, he noticed Gavin leaning over you. There was a cocky grin plastered on his face and he was too close for Connors liking. Connors eyes narrowed at the sight and his features hardened.
"It looks like you want to,"
Connor was already gone from his desk before Hank finished his sentence. He had Hanks mug in hand, planning to use it as an excuse to be in there. Hank watched Connor as he moved towards the break room, as if he was on a mission and stood up. He followed shortly behind Connor with a sign, ready to witness a fight.
"So, how about we sneak off to an interrogation and I show you-" Gavin said to you, he was interrupted by Connor pushing his way between the two of you.
You took a step back, relieved by Connors appearance. A slight blush glazed your face as you noticed him glance at from the corner of his eye. He seemed mad about something, you would have asked if Gavin hadn't started shouting.
"You plastic prick! I know you just follow orders like a lap dog so follow mine. Piss off, we were busy. Now stop being a cock block."
Connor turned his head to look at Gavin and you could just tell he was glaring at the other man. He dropped the spoon that he was using to make coffee before turning to completely face Gavin.
His shoulders were squared and you could hardly see Gavin past him. Your mouth sat agape as you watched Connor, noticing Hank leaning in the doorway from the corner of your eye.
"You have no respect for them Reed, you should leave them alone."
"Oh I respect them plenty. Stop stealing jobs from people you prick." Gavin tried to push Connor.
"You don't care for them they way they deserve to be cared for. Detective [name] here deserves to be worshipped, les avoir, c'est avoir les étoiles. You dont even deserve the time of day that such an amazing, beautiful person gives you,"
The blush on your face darkened as you listened to Connors words, leaning just enough so that you could see his LED glowing red. Gavin frowned at Connor as he spoke.
"You don't love them the way I do, you only care for their body so I suggest you leave them alone or I will remove you from the area."
Gavin left with a scoff, storming out of the break room through to the doors of the police department. Hank also left the breakroom, heading back to his desk to allow Connor some privacy, cursing over how oblivious the two of you were.
The android stood still, his back to you as his LED blinked yellow. "I said that aloud didn't I?" His voice trembled.
"Yeah- Connor?" You started, grabbing his sleeve and pulling his arm so that he would face you. "Did you mean everything you said? And what does the French mean-?" You stuttered, fumbling slightly through your words as you looked up at him.
"I did." He briefly pursed his lips. "It means 'to have them is to have the stars'" He locked his eyes onto the floor, shuffling his weight.
You placed one of your hands on his cheek, it was soft and warm. Thirium had been pumping to his cheeks and they glowed a soft blue - he was blushing. You traced your thumb along his cheek bone as you leant up and placed a delicate kiss on his cheek.
One of his hands held your wrist, keeping your hand on his cheek as he met your eyes. His eyes searched your face, memorising every detail as he had done so many times before. He had never been this close to you, his thirium pump pounding in his chest as he embraced the proximity.
"I'm glad you said something," you smiled at him.
"You are?" He furrowed his eyebrows.
You leant up to whisper in his ear, butterflies filling your stomach as you spoke softly. "I feel the same way,"
He moved his hand from your wrist to your hand, lifting it off of his cheek and tangling your fingers together. You were both nervous, unsure of who was to act next.
Connor broke the awkward moment as he placed his free hand on the small of your back, smashing his lips against yours.
Your free hand sat on his chest, bracing yourself against him as you melted into the kiss. It was too short for both of you but it being your first kiss and the two of you being full of nerves it was not supposed to be good.
He continued to place a kiss on your cheek, as you had done to him, then looked at you. His eyes were soft as he met yours, his demeanour had changed completely from when he had entered and he was back to being the Connor you knew well.
"Will you allow me to take you on a date sometime?"
"I would love that,"
Starting over | Bridge | Connor x Reader
Chapter 2
“C’mon!!! Tell me. Why did you leave?” Reed made his puppy eyes, and only to be rejected by her even more.
“My ‘no’ means no, Reed. Get used to it."
"C'moooon! I'll do everything you want, just tell me. Why did you leave?"
"Everything I want?" She turned around towards Gavin
"Everything."
"Shut the fuck up and never ask me about it."
“You got to be kidding?” Nines and Y/N laughed at his reaction while walking on the sidewalk.
___________
While three of them got back to station and finished their paperwork for today, Connor analyzed her. The way she move, talk, concentrate. He even searched her past. She lived in Europe, but at very young age moved to USA. First lived in Chicago with her family and closest friend, then after finishing school, moved to Detroit where she got in Police Academy. And her first partner after academy was Hank.
“Detective L/N, may I ask you a question?”
“Walk away tin can, we just finished our job.”
“Enough Reed. Let him speak.”
“Is there any chance we could talk somewhere on private? Maybe in a Caffe or something like that? I’m confused about something, and I think you could help me with that.” Y/N looked at the android in front of her, the way he asked now was more different than the way he talked to her that morning. “Reed, Nines, don’t wait for me at all. I will stay a bit longer. Reed, I’ll call you when I come home.” she turned to them before she left with Connor.
The two of them drove to Emerald City Harbor. It is a place she always visit when she needs a fresh air and time to think about everything. Near water without so many people around.
"Detective L/N.."
"Connor, please, call me Y/N when we're off the duty." She looked at him and he nodded back to her. " I suppose you wanted to ask me about what happened between Hank and me?"
"No, I wanted to meet you better. That's all."
"I won't bite for that. Tell me what do you want to know."
"Why did you left Detroit? Is it because of your partnership or is it something else?"
"It wasn't just the partnership. Hank and I were really close. He was like a father to me. I was often at his place spending time with Cole and him. There was a case, case with a murdered clan member. We were on it and we had a strong lead to the murderer until they treated me. They treated me with Hank's and Cole's life. So I had two choices: 1. To close the case and look away but Hank wouldn't do that at all because he is stubborn or 2. To move out of the city and stay quiet for a while."
"So you chose the second choice."
"The best I could do to protect them. That's why he doesn't understand me. But one day, I'm sure he will. Until then, I have to start over. To build my life from the beginning and everything and hoping everything will be going as planned."
"Maybe I could help. I could talk to Lieutenant and tell him your side of the story. He would surely have sympathy and-"
"-he would just make the distance longer than it was before. Connor, I respect you and your will for help, but this is something Hank and I need to do ourselves. But maybe you could help me about finding an apartment for the start."
"A new beginning?"
"New beginning."
Heart of Steel - Part I
DBH Connor x Male Reader
Word Count: 2.5K+
Content warning: Minor injury detail, PTSD, language
Original game dialogue I got from this video:
https://youtu.be/32Np9LKI1Vg
We were attacked in the night.
After returning from a mission back to an outpost several miles from the red zone, we removed our gear save for a few pouches on our belts we could bother with later. Our team leader set up a fire while the SQ800s, CyberLife commissioned combat androids, began loading up the trucks with extra artillery and resources. A job that could have waited until morning, but Alpha always gave the androids something to do. He said that they creeped him out when they would just stand there in a dormant state, waiting for their next mission to be given to them.
"You know what I'm going to do when I get home?"
"Here we go again."
"I'm going to get me a WR400," Foxtrot; not everyone's favourite but he certainly kept us entertained when there was nothing to do.
"Uh-huh and with what money are you going to be using to pay for this WR400? A military salary definitely ain't gonna cut it." Echo always called out Foxtrot's bullshit, he was the only one that had the patience to deal with him.
"Fine, my birthday is comin' up, if you put towards two-thirds of what it costs we can share. How does that sound?"
"I am not sharing anything with you, I don't know what diseases you carry." Their constant back forth sent chuckles through the group.
"Alright, that's enough you two. It's getting late and past everyone's bedtime, I want you all awake by O-five-hundred at the latest," Alpha would often stop them before Foxtrot would take it too far, but he could never hide the twitching smile on his face.
"Yes sir," Foxtrot mock saluted as he stood from his seat around the campfire. "Hey Echo, that offer is still-"
One moment Foxtrot had a wide grin on his face, the next there was a hole in his head between his eyes, the sound of gunshot ringing in everyone's ears.
"SHOTS FIRED! GET TO COVER NOW!"
"FOXTROT IS DOWN! I REPEAT, FOXTROT IS DOWN!"
It was dark, we couldn't see where they were firing from. The android was the only one still standing, firing off in random directions as they were gunned down. The next was Delta, shot in the left shoulder, then the throat. My gun was back in my tent and there was no chance of me getting it. Stupid.
"MEDIC! GET TO DELTA! NOW!"
"GRENADE!"
I heard the thump by my feet before I saw it. You would think it would be terrifying, to know you're staring death in the face, but for a second it was peaceful. My body was cold and I already felt like a corpse, the Rigour Mortis freezing me in place, just softly gazing at what would kill me.
Something grabbed me before the grenade exploded, saving my life but destroying the android.
The bedsheets were crumpled and soaked in sweat again when my eyes shot open. It was hard to breathe, the panic was still running through me and closing up my throat at the memory.
In; one, two, three, four. Hold; one, two, three, four. Out; one, two, three, four. Hold; one, two, three, four.
It took a few minutes for me to remember where I was. That I was home and that I was safe. Out of nervous habit, I gripped my dog tags, they were wet from the sweat that had soaked through my shirt in the night.
"Shit." It was four in the morning, there was no chance of getting any more sleep and the station wouldn't be open for another two more hours at the least. Saying that; Fowler wanted to speak to me first thing, which never meant anything good for anyone.
It was aching again at the joint. The biomechanical component always felt itchy where it joined at the elbow. Anytime I would have that dream I would scratch at it in my sleep, it was like my subconscious knew it didn't belong. It knew my rotting left arm was still in the desert somewhere being picked apart by vultures.
It's almost ironic; to be saved by an android and then to have part of one attached to me. I hated it.
*****
"Morning Cyborg, you look like shit." Gavin was forever pleasant to talk to.
"Fuck off, Reed." He constantly hovered around the coffee machine, hogging it like it was his newborn baby. "Is Fowler in yet?"
"Not yet, you in trouble?" He took his time making his coffee, exceeding in being the department's resident asshat. "Did he catch you looking at porn on your work terminal again?"
"I'm pretty sure that's only ever happened to you." Not wanting to be reminded of his previous escapades I got no response. Gavin let out a small huff before moving to the side with his fresh cup of coffee, freeing up the machine.
"Officer (L/N)." Oh for fuck's sake.
"Sir?" Captain Fowler stood outside his office, his coat half soaked from the rain.
"My office, I need to speak to you." He didn't give a second glance to me before turning and letting the glass door shut behind him.
"Ha, good luck cyborg." Shooting Gavin the middle finger, I followed Captian Fowler into his office.
"What was it you wished to talk about, sir?" Feet shoulder-width apart, back straight and hands behind my back; habits from the army were destined to die hard. Often I would find myself moving my hand up to salute before leaving the presence of a superior, something else for Gavin to make fun of.
"You're aware of the deviant cases I've assigned to Lieutenant Anderson, correct?" Fowler sat at his desk, wet coat now hung on its rack, but there was slight dampness to his suit blazer where his coat had been left open.
"Yes sir. I believe he's being accompanied by a prototype RK800 from Cyberlife."
"That's correct. I'm sure you're aware that these deviancy cases are on the more..."
"Dangerous?"
"...Unpredictable side. Now, I can't exactly issue a gun to a prototype android if it's going to be in the field and, while I value Hank as a police officer, his record is on the rougher side."
"Captain Fowler, with all due respect, I don't believe-"
"Office (L/N), with all due respect, you don't have an opinion in this matter. I want you to accompany Lieutenant Anderson in these assignments just in case a deviant becomes too much for him or this android to handle. You've certainly got the skillset for it and you're not unfamiliar with working alongside androids, unlike quite a few officers in this department."
"I understand that, but-"
"Whatever you're gonna say I don't want to hear it." Captain Fowler didn't give me a chance to argue as he stood and walked to his office door, the annoyed look on his face worsening. "Hank, in my office!"
I let out a sigh before Captain Fowler turned back to his desk. Through the office wall made of glass Hank reluctantly made his way towards us grumbling something under his breath at the request, the RK800 model obediently following behind him like a little, lost puppy. Hank sat in the chair opposite Fowler while the android stood next to me, giving a small smile as a greeting.
Captain Fowler was the first to talk, "I've got ten new cases involving androids on my desk every day. We've always had isolated incidents, old ladies losing their android maids and that kind of crap... But now, we're getting reports of assaults and even homicides, like that guy last night. This isn't just cyberlife's problem anymore, it's now a criminal investigation and we've gotta deal with it before the shit hits the fan. I want you to investigate these cases, alongside officer (L/N) and see if there's any link."
"Why me? And why do I need a god damned partner? A stupid android is already too much. Why do I gotta be the one to deal with this shit?" Props to Hank for trying, but arguing with Fowler was like talking to a brick wall. "I am the least qualified cop in the country to handle this case! I know jack shit about androids, Jeffery. I can barely change the settings on my own phone."
"Everybody's overloaded. I think you're perfectly qualified for this type of investigation," They were already starting to blow up at each other.
"Bullshit! The truth is nobody wants to investigate these fuckin' androids and you left me holdin' the bag!"
"CyberLife sent over this android to help with this investigation and I've given you (L/N) as well. You've got a state of the art prototype and a leading police officer to act as your partners."
"No fuckin' way! I don't need partners, and certainly not this plastic prick and some action hero fucker."
"Nice working with you too, Lieutenant Anderson," I said under my breath, not intending for the others to hear. Connor turned his head slightly in my direction, I could see his LED blink yellow for a moment before going back to its bright blue.
"Hank, you are seriously starting to piss me off! You are a police lieutenant, you are supposed to do what I say and shut your goddamn mouth!"
"You know what my goddamn mouth has to say to you, huh?"
"I'll pretend like I didn't hear that, so I don't have to add any more pages to your disciplinary folder 'cause it already looks like a fuckin' novel! This conversation is over."
"Jeffrey, Jesus Christ! Why are you doin' this to me? You know how much I hate these fuckin' things. Why are you doin' this to me?" Most of the department knew why he had such a distaste towards androids, no one could necessarily blame him. Ever since losing his son Hank had become completely different as both a person and an officer. Admittedly, Fowler was harsh on him, but if he wasn't then Hank would drift.
"I've had just enough of your bitching. Either you do your job or you hand in your badge. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got work to do." Hank left in a strop, letting out his frustration on Fowler's office door.
"Well then..." Connor was quick to break the tense silence. His voice caught me off guard, it was smoother, more human than any android's I had heard before. The SQ800's voices had always been more robotic than other models so it had been a shock when the androids back home had sounded so normal, it felt like that all over again. It was jarring. "I won't keep you any longer. Have a nice day captain."
Connor left and I followed behind, giving a small nod of dismissal to Fowler despite him still looking at his terminal screen.
The android went straight to Hank either oblivious or ignoring the lieutenant's current bad mood, granted there was never a time the bastard was in a good mood. Heaven itself could rain down on Detroit and he'd huff at it like a hair in his food.
"I got the impression my presence causes you some inconvenience, Lieutenant. I'd like you to know I'm very sorry about that. In any case, I'd like you to know I'm very to be working with you." Ever the enthusiast.
"I'd give in now. You're talking to a toddler in a fifty-year old's body and the toddler is having a hissy fit." I half sat and half leant against Hank's desk, using my arms to support my weight.
"Apologies, I don't believe I've introduced myself. My name is Connor, I am the android sent by CyberLife." He turned to me, a gentle and manufactured smile on his face. "It's a pleasure to be working with you too, officer (L/N). I'm sure we'll make a great team."
"Er... (Y/N) is just fine."
"Is there a desk anywhere I could use?"
"No one's using that one." Hank points to the desk opposite him, while still sulking like a child.
"Gasp, it speaks," I said in a sarcastic tone while turning to Hank.
"Fuck off. I've already got an android on my ass, I don't need you on it too."
I grabbed a terminal pad before perching myself back at the edge of Hank's desk while Connor got comfortable at the empty one. The light at the side of his head flashing yellow for a moment like he was hesitant to speak."You have a dog, right?"
"How do you know that?"
"The dog hairs on your chair. I like dogs. What's your dog's name?"
"What's it to you?" Hank shifted in his seat, "...Sumo... I call him Sumo."
"Under all those shitty shirts and questionable stains there's a warm, beating heart," I say more to myself than the other two, skimming over the recent case files sent in by Fowler.
"Officer (L/N)... (Y/N), knowing that we'd be working together I read your academy and field records. You have quite an interesting background."
"Oh yeah, then you understand that I may be a little driven to get these cases over with. I can't say I'm a fan of you terminators."
"I understand you have a... warped view of androids due to what you've experienced, but I hope you understand that I am your partner and not your enemy."
"Connor, you're not my partner, you're cyberlife's latest gizmo for us kick around." I sigh, turning to sit at my desk adjacent to hanks, taking the terminal pad with me. "Just look through the deviant case files. Terminals on your desk, knock yourself out."
They're nothing but machines. They are not your friends.
"Two-hundred and forty-three files, the first date back nine months. It all started in Detroit... And quickly spread across the country." Connor had only connected the terminal moments before.
"Don't work your CPU too hard," I mutter under my breath, catching a quick huff of amusement from Hank.
"An AX400 is reported to have murdered a man last night. That could be a good starting point for our investigation." Hank was doing his best to pretend Connor didn't exist, but the android was persistent. Connor stood from his chair and made his way into Hank's personal space.
"Uh, Jesus..." Hank turned his chair away.
"I understand you're facing personal issues, Lieutenant, but you need to move past them and-" For an android, Connor has some balls on him.
"Hey! Don't talk to me like you know me. I'm not your friend and I don't need your advice, okay?" Hank's mood had soured like milk, it wouldn't be long until Fowler was adding another page to Hank's disciplinary folder.
"I've been assigned this mission Lieutenant, I didn't come here to wait until you feel like working."
"Connor, you're just gonna-" I had wasted my breath, Hank had already stood and was grabbing onto Connor by the collar of his Cyberlife jacket and slamming against the screen next to his desk. "Hank!"
"Listen asshole. If it were up to me, I'd rather throw the lot of you in a dumpster and set a match to it. So, stop pissing me off... or things are gonna get nasty."
"Hank," I placed a hand on his shoulder to try and lightly pull him away from Connor but only earned a nasty side-eye. "Leave off him, you don't get paid enough to replace him."
"Lieutenant... Officer (L/N), uh... sorry to disturb you," Looks like the tin can was saved before Hank could knock the light out of him, "I have some information on the AX400 that killed that guy last night. It's been sighted in the Ravendale district."
"I'm on it." Hank didn't glance back when he dropped Connor's collar. The puppy dog look on his face almost made me feel bad for him... almost.
"Come on, WALL-E. Don't want to keep the old man waiting."
HAUNTED
Pairing: D:BH!CONNOR x HUMAN!READER (gender neutral)
Words: 4.058
Warnings: TRIGGER WARNING! mention of suicide; odd behavior; cursing; hurt - comfort;
A/N: Another day - another request...
I really hope you like it! Thanks again for your idea.
Synopsis: You are a Detective of the DPD and had worked many cases with Hank. Until something went utterly wrong. Since then, you get haunted by your past until you see only one last way out. Luckily, Connor is there to help you.
"You know you don't have to do this.", you said serious.
Sara pulled the wire of the bug underneath her shirt before it got taped on her back, "Yes, but I want to. I have to. I owe it to my sister to do this. She shall find peace finally and like the Lieutenant said, me as her twin, I have the best chance to get this bastard. He doesn't know that she's dead. Therefore, I'm your best chance to get the information you need, Detective."
"Detective..."
"Detective."
"Detective, YLN!"
As if awakening from a deep trance like state, you focused back on reality as your name got called out. Haunted by your typical dark memories, you hadn't even noticed where you were. Slowly, you opened your eyes. The owner of the calm male voice stood on the outside of your car, next to the window of the driver seat, and looked concerned at you through the glass.
You blinked several times. The sun, which already fell through your windshield because it stood so high in the morning sky, made you blind for several moments and as you moved, you noticed your aching back and neck from sleeping in the car in an unhealthy position. Obviously, you had knocked yourself out with booze again.
"Detective YLN, my name's Connor. I'm your new partner. I'm the android sent by CyberLi- I got sent from Captain Fowler to meet you. Rather, he sent me to find you because you missed a meeting this morning. And now, he wants to see you.", Connor said and watched you. Even if he had already learned a lot about human behavior from Hank, there were still some mysteries to solve.
Like: why are you sleeping in a car in a position that harms eighty percent of your muscle tissue through soreness and lets your bones and joints burn like fire when you move?
Or: why are you drunk this early in the morning-
"Hey, tin can! Shut the fuck up!", you shouted.
Connor stared at you in shock as he realized that he had asked the questions out loud instead of just thinking about them. A habit he started with as Hank had left the DPD to retire finally, "I'm sorry, Detective. I haven't notice-"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah... what do you want, Carlos?", you asked, searching for your flask you couldn't find.
"My name's Connor, Detective. And as I said, Captain Fowl-"
"Oh, yeah... the meeting... right. Get in the car.", you ordered and even if Connor was sure that it wasn't a good idea for you to drive in the state you were, he also knew that any kind of discussion would lead to nowhere. He still knew that from his time with Hank.
**
Twenty minutes later, for a way that only took ten minutes usually, you, followed by Connor, entered the DPD which was crowded with androids, policemen and people who were complaining about some uninteresting nonsense. You made your way through all these people, trying to dodge as many colleagues as you could - but of course, one of them caught you. Like always.
"Hey, YN! This is the DPD and not some bar. You won't find any kind of booze around here."
"Just shut the fuck up, Reed! Or otherwise, I will tell everyone that you own some pair of bright pink panties- oh, upsi! My bad!", you called out, gleaming at him with a smirk. Everyone started to laugh.
Gavin stared at you with a hate-filled glance, he was fuming, "Fuck you!", he muttered.
"Oh, sweet. That's all you got, Reed?", you shot back with a grin.
But before Gavin could respond to anything, Captain Fowler stepped out of his office, "Detective YLN! In my office!"
"And? Who's laughing now?", Gavin said with a smirk and winked at you before he left the DPD to do some work.
Connor closed the door of the office behind him as you were inside. You walked over to the Captain's desk to sit down in one of the chairs but even without looking up you sensed the anger radiating from your boss. It was tangible in the air. Without asking, you took one of the fresh glasses on Fowler's desk to throw an aspirin into it. Then, you pulled out the flask you had found finally to fill the glass with a transparent liquid.
Fowler watched you, half shocked and half concerned, "What are you doing?"
"Taking an aspirin, Sir. I have a murderous headache."
"And what was in the flask if I may ask?"
"Vo- uhm... water. Just water, Sir.", you answered before you gulped down the bubbling mixture.
Fowler looked from you at Connor who also seemed to be concerned about the fact that you had mixed pharmaceuticals with alcohol before the Captain looked back at you, "Where have you been this morning? We had a meeting."
You put the empty glass back on the desk, "Oh, yeah... the meeting. I'm sorry, Sir. I was on observation and obviously, I lost track of time.", you explained, leaning back in the chair, waiting for the aspirin and ‘water’ to do its magic.
"Observation, huh? For what case? What's the file number?", Fowler asked, leaning back in his own seat, folding his hands in front of him while waiting for your answer.
"Oh, yeah... the file number. One moment, Sir-"
Fowler slammed his plane hand on the desk's surface that you were jumping in your seat, "Cut this shit, god dammit! You have no file number because you have no current case, Detective! Let me guess, Connor had found you sleeping in your car, right? How many nights had it been this time?"
You kept eye contact but you gave him no answer. You just gritted your teeth and pressed your jaws together.
Fowler sighed, "Listen, YN, you're a great Detective but since the things with Sara happened-"
"No!", you called out, jumping from your chair and stopping the Captain mid-sentence with your sudden outburst, "We won't talk about this!", you said serious before you turned around to let your glance roam through the office with all the busy people, "Alright, Sir. What's the matter with the android? Monitoring what I do and what I don't do?"
"Connor is the former partner of Hank-"
"Oh and now, Hank doesn't want to play with it anymore so you give it to the next screwed up cop you can find?", you asked, turning around to look at Connor with his fancy clothes and neat hairstyle before you looked back at the Captain.
"Hank retired two weeks ago. I thought you knew that.", Fowler said and looked even more concerned at you.
"No, I'm sorry. I didn't get invited to any funny parties nor did I got a notification. But who cares. So, the android's with me then? How long?", you asked emotionlessly.
"It's your partner now. Brief it into your cases-"
You stepped forward, aiming for the door, "Cases, Sir? What cases? You already said I have none.", you pointed out while leaving the office.
Fowler watched after you, not amused about your unpredictable behavior and the fact that you were carrying a gun.
"Sir?", Connor asked and brought the Captain back from his thoughts.
"Yeah... Listen... as you can see YN has a few problems. They used to be a good cop in the past until one of the cases they and Hank had operated went wrong. The anniversary is in two days and I fear... well...", Captain Fowler stopped himself, watching you grabbing a coffee from the kitchen.
"I will keep an eye on them.", Connor said and left the office as well.
*
Connor was surprised how carelessly you were in managing your cases - even if it were just a few. There was nothing special or difficult and yet, you weren't able to file the cases properly, "Detective, this report here, I'm not sure to which case it belongs.", Connor asked as he had read an interview of a woman who had reported her dog as missing. Added to that, the interview was part of a file about an armed theft in the heart of the city. There was no connection at all to these two cases.
Without looking up, you took a folder from your desk to hand it over to Connor, "Yeah...here. That's the case you're searching for."
Connor took the case and skimmed through the pages several times before he looked at you, frowning, "Detective, this is a file about a stolen android.", he pointed out.
"Yeah, just ... put the page in this file. I'm sure it will be right.", you said, ignoring the android's expression.
"Detective, I'm not sure-"
"Excuse me, I need some more coffee.", you cut him off, standing up to aim for the kitchen with your mug in your hands.
"And I thought Hank was challenging.", Connor whispered under his breath and shook his head while he still tried to figure out which pages were parts of which cases.
"You're a murderer, Detective! That you still think yourself as worthy enough to call yourself a cop is way out of my understanding!", a jarring, female voice echoed through the office and drew the attention of everyone to her and to the person that stood in front of her - you.
Connor craned his head to watch the scene like everyone else did. But while the attention of the others was because of curiosity and spitefulness, Connor watched you and your bodily reaction to the woman's accusations. You stood there like a timid fawn. The cockiness you presented before seemed to be gone completely. Your heart rate increased, you were shaking and your eyes became big as if you were intimidated by the woman in front of you. The woman stepped even closer and Connor watched, surprised, that you stayed where you were. Easily, you could have escaped the unknown woman and yet you stayed rooted to the spot.
"Because of you I lost both of my daughters! I already have lost the one and yet, you thought it would be fair to take the other away from me as well!", the woman screamed erratic, tears were already running down her cheeks but she was still not able to stop herself and no one else was brave enough to step into the scene, "You and your partner will pay for what you have done! You will burn in hell for that!"
"Chris! Escort Mrs. Mason into my office!", Captain Fowler ordered and stopped the woman's outburst even if it was a bit too late.
Connor saw tears building in the corners of your eyes. Quickly, your glance scanned the area but the only way you could find was the way out. You aimed for the precinct's main entrance to leave the building in a hurry. Connor followed you. He ran through the office and left the building as well but as he stepped onto the pavement you were nowhere to be seen. Like a ghost, you had vanished between all the other pedestrians.
**
Hank had just taken a new beer to watch the next half of the Detroit Gears game as someone rang his doorbell. In the penetrant way how this person used his doorbell and the way how Sumo reacted, Hank knew who the visitor was, "Connor, hey. What are you doing here? It's a bit too early to go for a walk with Sumo.", the older man said but he already saw that something else was bothering the android.
"Yeah, actually, I'm not here because of Sumo.", Connor said.
Hank let him in and Connor came straight to the point that kept him busy, "One year ago, you and Detective YLN had a case together. But something went wrong. What exactly happened? I couldn't find the case file."
Hank frowned, "Why do you ask?"
"Captain Fowler teamed me up with Detective YLN because of the anniversary of this case. He's concerned about the instability of their constitution."
Hank shook his head. He missed working with the android but he didn't miss the long-winded explanations of him. Then, suddenly, he became serious again, "Instability, huh?"
"Yes. They seem to be so unpredictable in their behavior that Captain Fowler fears something worse will happen because the anniversary would be in two days. I ... I found them this morning sleeping in their car.", Connor explained with a frown.
Hank raised his brows in surprise and at the same time, he felt worried, "YN and I, we... In the past, we worked together on some cases. Well, that changed with our last case. Lynn and Sara Mason.", he said slowly, feeling the pain stinging his heart as he remembered what had happened one year ago.
"Why couldn't I find much about it in the archives of the DPD?"
Hank stood up from the couch, walking over to the book shelf to pull something out that was hidden between his several jazz vinyl. He walked back to Connor, offering the android the case file but stopped as Connor was grabbing for it, "You just can find the basics of this case because I kept it printed. Some wounds are so deep, it's better if not everyone is able to find a tool to reopen them all over again.", he said and gave Connor the file finally.
***
The next day, Connor drove again to your place and was happy to see that you weren't sleeping in your car again. As he knocked at your door, you opened him with a smile. You had taken a shower, your hair was still damp and your clothes were all fresh and clean. Connor noticed that you weren't accompanied by the scent of alcohol and he even couldn't smell anything in your breath as you talked with him.
"I... I want to apologize, Connor. Our start yesterday wasn't the best. I'm looking forward to working with you. I'm sure we will make a great team."
Connor knew you just one day, not enough to understand a person completely, and yet he had the strange feeling of something going on that occupied his mind suddenly by the way you acted.
"Oh, can you call a taxi?", you asked while sipping on your coffee.
"What happened to your car, Detective?", Connor asked surprised while ordering the vehicle.
You smiled at him, "Oh, I sold it. I will have no use of it anymore. And please, call me YN."
To Connor's surprise, your behavior stayed kinda strange even if he couldn't say what it was exactly. You and Connor went early to the DPD. On your way in, you talked with colleagues. You joked with Chris and as Gavin entered the kitchen, you pressed a cup of coffee into the Detective's hand which left him utterly confused.
Gavin stopped Connor by stepping into his way, "Hey, tin can. Is this coffee drugged or what is going on here?"
In the way Gavin looked at Connor, the android noticed real unease, "No, Detective. The coffee is not drugged or anything. I guess others would call it 'tasty'. You can drink it.", he said but looked frowning at you. As Connor left Gavin, the green-eyed man was still sniffing suspiciously on the hot liquid as if the mug might contain acid instead of his most favorite beverage.
Connor went back to the desk opposite of yours and was surprised to see how you cleared out the different pages of the case files. Several small piles were lying in front of you while you tried to bring them into the right order and to collate them.
Later that day, Connor was puzzled as you went to the Captain to apologize to him as well as you had done it with Connor in the beginning of the day. You apologized for your behavior the day before and of all the past weeks, "I know I did a few things wrong, Captain. But I promise to change that in the future. In fact, the change will happen soon and then, everyone will be pleased with me again.", you said before you took your jacket to leave the precinct.
Connor looked at the Captain and saw on the man's face what he was thinking: strange.
‘Strange’ was the only word Connor could find to describe your work day even although you were acting practically perfect. You were nice. You had sorted your cases. You had apologized for your behavior. And yet, something was odd. Something felt wrong. Connor sensed that something was ... going on. But he couldn't put his finger on it. So, out of instinct, Connor followed you and drove to your place with a taxi.
As he knocked at your door, you opened, smiling at him and dressed in a bathrobe, "Oh, Connor, hey. What is it? I just wanted to take a bath."
Surprised, Connor looked at you. He was sure you had taken a shower this morning so there was no need to take a bath and then, he reminded himself that he still had not much knowledge about humans and their several oddities, "Yeah, I ... I just wanted to ask if everything is alright, Detective.", he said honestly.
You smiled at him, "Of course, Connor. Everything is more than alright. I just need some time to relax and tomorrow, everything will make sense to you and the others. Thanks for checking on me, that means a lot to me. Goodnight.", you said and closed the door.
Connor stared at your closed door for several moments before he stepped slowly back to walk down the hallway. Since he turned deviant, Connor's systems needed a bit longer to process information - not much, it were just seconds, but sometimes that could be more than enough.
As Connor was still connecting the different dots and hints you had spread the whole day, Hank called him, "Connor! Where are you?"
"I'm leaving YN's place. They want to take a bath. Why? What's the matter?", Connor asked as he sensed the slightly concerned undertone in Hank's voice.
"You have to go back, Connor! Go back to them! YN hates to bath!", Hank demanded worried.
Even if Connor was confused, he turned around, walking back the way to your apartment, "Hank?"
"I just got a letter from YN. It got brought by a delivery man. It's a handwritten suicide letter. Hurry and stop them!", Hank ordered.
Connor ended the call, hurried down the corridor and without knocking, he broke down the door of your apartment. Quickly, Connor ran through your small apartment, already seeing the door of your bathroom ajar. He stormed into the room and the second his eyes landed on you lying in the bathtub with the razor blade between your fingers, he was by your side, taking the blade away to throw it into a far corner before you could even cut. Slowly but demanding, Connor dragged you out of the water, took a towel and laid it around your shaking frame because you already were ice cold. Obviously, you had filled the bathtub with cold water to support a fast sleep while your blood would have drained from your body after the cut.
You were screaming and yelling for Connor to let go of you. You demanded the razor back and that he should leave your apartment but Connor ignored everything. You punched against his chest with your fists but Connor stayed unimpressed, determined to save your life. With a strong grip, he wrapped you into the towel and also laid the bathrobe around your shoulders before he guided you out of the bathroom. You were still struggling in Connor's arms to get free. All you wanted was to end what you had started. Desperate, hot tears were running down your cheeks as you were crying violently about the fact that you were still alive. Alive and alone with the memories which were still haunting you like mean demons.
Connor placed you on the couch, sitting next to you and wrapping his arms around your frame to give you even more support and comfort while you cried against his chest, "Please, just let me die...", you cried out between two heavy sobs.
"No, Detective. I have to refuse your request."
"Cut this 'Detective' shit. Just call me YN, god damnit.", you whimpered helplessly because now, everything was just worse than you had expected. You had planned everything and yet, the android was there to destroy your neatly made plans, "What are you even doing here, Connor?"
"Hank received your letter and called me right on time."
You leant closer against Connor's chest with closed eyes, seeking the android’s presence while cursing about yourself, "Hell, the letter. I should have changed the delivery time to a later one. Then, everything would be over. All the pain. All the guilt. All the haunting.", you breathed with a sad voice.
Connor tightened the embrace around you even more, "It's about Sara Mason and her sister, isn't it?", he whispered softly, placing his chin on top of your head to enclose you even more.
You nodded, not surprised that Connor already knew it, "Yeah... it's my fault that Sara died. It's my fault that her mother lost both daughters.", you cried out, clawing into Connor's white shirt with your fingers.
"Well, I read the file. Sara came up with the idea to get bugged and to infiltrate the drug dealer who had killed her sister Lynn. I mean, the idea was good. It was just bad luck that the dealer already knew about Lynn's death and looked right through the façade you and Hank had planned.", Connor said softly. To calm you even more, he stroked soothingly over your back with his hands.
You leant back to look into the android's face and for the first time, you noticed the incredibly intense, brown color of his soft eyes, "Y-you don't understand. Not even Hank knew that but Sara didn't come up with the idea to get bugged on her own. I dropped this idea as I was alone with her and manipulated her to think it was her own idea. I mean, how evil can someone be to do this, huh?", you asked, closing your eyes about this painful memory.
Connor cupped your face, knowing that humans needed physical contact to feel secure and safe and he wanted to provide you both as well as he could. He was glad to see that you opened your eyes again and that you stayed where you were, "Listen, neither you nor Hank nor someone else could have known every single possibility in this case. The idea was good. The Captain said the same in his official statement. But ... Look, kid, sometimes bad things happen, and you can't do anything about it.", he said softly.
Through a sob of new tears because Connor was the first for a very long time that was caring about you this much, you chuckled low, "Have you... did you just quote the Lion King to cheer me up?"
Connor looked slightly caught with a sheepishly smile playing around his lips, "Yeah... Hank said I should improve my knowledge about pop culture. I binge watched all the Disney movies I could find last week. I thought this quote was suitable... Or did I have done it wrong?"
You chuckled a bit more about his innocence and strong will to help you, "No, it was pretty good. Thanks for... you know... thanks for being here with me.", you whispered low, feeling your cheeks reddening.
Connor leant back on your couch, bringing you close to his chest so you could snuggle against him, "I'm your partner now, YN. And partners are looking out for each other. You can count on me no matter what it is.", he said softly and after five minutes where he just stroked comforting over your back, he noticed your even breathing that told him that you had fallen asleep. Hank called and without making too much noise, Connor briefed his former partner that you were alright.
You were still alive. You still had a long way to go to leave your haunting ghosts behind but Connor was sure you would make it. You were strong enough to do it - and he would be by your side to support you as promised.
Criminal Analysis Masterlist
Summary: You never pictured this life for yourself. Never pictured that android cases would start piling up and you'd be assigned to figure out why they were deviating.
You were a forensic psychologist hired by the Detroit Police Department as a consultant. You usually dealt with figuring out what made suspects tick and why they did what they did. You figured it'd be the same thing, as usual, that is until a certain android walked into your crime scene and completely turned your life upside down.
(Y/N) remains silent LED flashing blue. Gavin shakes his head kneeling down to inspect the floor where the victim was killed. (Y/N) stares at the blood splatter on the walls.
VN blinks. "The deviant was an AP400 model, a caretaker. It lived here with it's owners." Gavin looks up at (Y/N). "And how do you know that?" He ponders aloud. "I analyzed a sample of thiruim, there," She says, pointing to the floor. Gavin cringes. "That's fuckin' gross." He murmers. "The deviant was injured. It's blood was mixed with the victims, meaning, it couldn't have gotten far." (Y/N) explains. "We should proceed to the station to interrogate the survivors." She says. "I thought you said we needed to collect evidence." Gavin says, crossing his arms as he stands. "We have gathered enough information from this location." (Y/N) concludes. Gavin laughs, mockingly. "Look at you, smarty pants." Gavin teases, getting a confused blank expression from the android. "Never-fucking-mind. Let's go, dipshit." Gavin growls, walking out. (Y/N) hesitates, wanting to ask him if he was angry with her. That didn't matter. Why did she care?
Gavin walks through the automatic doors of the DPD. He heads by his terminal throwing his keys on the desktop. Hank watches the two walk back in. "Hello again, (Y/N)." Connor says, nodding at her. He smiled. VN nods at him. Androids weren't programmed to smile. Where they? "Good afternoon, Connor." She says, flatly. Hank snorts, grabbing her attention. "I fail to see what is humorous about our interaction, Lieutenant." She says, eyeing Anderson. Hank raises his hands as if he were surrendering, turning back to his computer. "Fuckin' androids." He mutters. "Would you hurry the fuck up? I don't have all day." Gavin says, impatiently tapping is foot on the floor. "Yes, detective." (Y/N) obeys. Connor's LED swirls yellow as he watches her go. "I have an unknown feeling." Connor says to Hank. "I think you may be worried, kiddo." Hank says, frowning. "And you wanna know somethin'?" Hank says, leaning towards Connor. "Me too."
Gavin huffs, slumping down in his desk chair, spinning around mindlessly. (Y/N) watches him, eyes following him as he spins. Gavin stops, glaring at her. "What did I say about the fuckin' staring, tin can?" He complains. "I apologize." VN says, looking somewhere else for his comfort. "Fuck it." Gavin announces. "I'm going home." He says, getting up from his chair. "I beleive we still have work to do, detective." VN says, her LED swirling blue. "Yeah well, Fowler can bitch at me tomorrow about it." He says, walking past her. VN quickly follows him. "I do not believe it is wise to leave your work unfinished." She says, referring to the stack of paperwork on his desk. She watches him swipe his card to clock out. He doesn't say away but holds his middle fingers up at her, with a strange expression. VN watches him exit. Her LED swirls yellow.
(Y/N) walks through the automatic doors, following Gavin out to his car. Gavin glances over his shoulder, seeing her following him. He groans, stopping at his car. "What do you want?" He demands, unlocking his car. She stands on the other side of his car.
"I was assigned to help and assist you. I do not think leaving work to drink is a good idea, so I will be going with you to the bar." VN says, opening the car door and getting inside. Gavin stands there, mouth open. "Wait a damn minute." He protests, bending down to look at her sitting in the car. "You ain't doing shit! Get the fuck out." He orders. "I'm afriad I cannot comply, sir. According to your current physical and mental health, drinking alone could put you in danger." VN says, maintaining eyecontact. "Get out." Gavin says again. He wants to pull out his gun and shoot her brains out but something in him doesn't have the strength too. He's tired.
Yet another silent drive. Gavin's radio is turned up on a dangerously high level. VN isn't bothered but is worried about the effect on her partners ears. She concludes it is best to not comment, due to his recent outbursts. Gavin pulls up to Jimmy's, a local bar, and parks his car. Gavin opens the car door, putting his keys in his jacket. VN exits after locking the car doors. She walks behind the detective, deducting that he didn't want her by his side. She notices the package of cigarettes sticking out of his pocket. She assumes he has a lighter as well, somewhere on his person.
VN stops analyzing as they enter the bar. Gavin exhales, pretending he isn't being followed by a tin can. (Y/N) looks around. It's dimly lit, quiet. Music plays and it smells of alcohol, cigarettes, and cigars. She puts her hands behind her back, following Gavin to the bar. He pulls out a stool, hopping on top. A bartender, assumed to be Jimmy, saunters over to her partner. VN stands close to a wall, analyzing every detail of the bar. "Hey, kid." Jimmy says to Gavin. VN attempts to give Gavin privacy with the bartender but can't exactly turn off her sensors. " 'Sup." Gavin sighs, leaning against the bar. Jimmy chuckles, glancing at the out of place android against the wall. "That yours?" He teases, gesturing to (Y/N). "Don't give me that, J." Gavin scoffs. Jimmy laughs, boisterously. Gavin can't help but smile a little. Jimmy was pretty cool and he gave great philosophical advice.
"Watcha want to drink, son?" Jimmy asks, turning to the wall of drinks. "Brandy on the rocks." Gavin says, pulling out his box of cigarettes and his lighter. Jimmy sighs. "Rough day, huh." He says, pouring his drink. (Y/N) watches carefully. She started to get an unknown sensation across multiple sensors in her being. She scanned herself for malfunction or errors. Nothing. VN tilts her head to herself. What was that sensation? It wasn't an error or a malfunction? Possibly a glitch. She shakes it off watching the detective. The sensation returns. She attempts to flush her systems, but it remains. She ignores it, concluding it was a glitch. "You can say that again." Gavin says. Jimmy slides him his drink watching him closely. "You look tired, kiddo." Jimmy comments, leaning against the other side of the countertop. Gavin chuckles. "Everyone says that. I'm fine, J." Gavin lies. "C'mon, Gavin. Talk to me. It's a slow night." Jimmy pries. Gavin sighs, lighting the cigarette between his fingers. He raises it to his lips, taking a drag. He looks down at his drink.
VN glances around the room, unintentionally listening. The sensation had left. She wasn't alive. She couldn't feel. It was a simple glitch. "It's been hard without him." Gavin says, taking a sip of his brandy. This peaks VN's intrest. "I know. You seem to care about him a lot." Jimmy responds. He must know more than she knows about the situation. Gavin glances at the android that accompanied him, downing his drink. Jimmy sighs again. "Is that thing givin' you trouble?" He asks, grabbing the glass to refill it. Gavin takes another drag of his cigarette. "Yeah it is. Fuckin' Fowler assigned it to me or whatever." Gavin says, words full of spite. VN feels the sensation return. Her LED blinks yellow.
(Y/N) blinks, LED pulsing red. She straightens her posture, ignoring the sensation, yet again. Jimmy nods, following Gavin's story. Gavin takes a swig of his drink again. "You two get along?" Jimmy asks, tapping on the counter behind him. "Fuck no." Gavin snickers. Jimmy smiles, almost sadly. "The things been following me around like a dog. Gets on my fuckin' nerves." Gavin sighs, finishing his second glass. (Y/N) notes his blood alcohol content. Jimmy grins at the detective. "Maybe she's there to help you. Ever thought about it that way?" J asks, grabbing his empty glass again, pausing. "Oh, that's utter bullshit. Don't side with them, Jimmy." Gavin spits, putting out his cigarette in the ashtray on the bar. "I'm only sayin', maybe it's there for a reason, kid. You look like shit. It could help you, y'know." Jimmy shrugs, filling his glass again. Gavin snorts, feeling the buzz kick it. "Thanks, J. How nice." Gavin teases. "Give it a chance, Gav." Jimmy pushes. "No way in hell am I trusting a piece of plastic." Gavin argues, gladly accepting his third drink. (Y/N) decides to step in. "Detective," She starts. "Fuck off." Gavin grits, waving his hand at her. Jimmy watches the two. "I beleive you've had enough." She states, hands behind her back still. "This is only my third so fuck off." Gavin growls. He usually had a better alcohol tolerance but not today.
"Your BAC is nine point two and increasing. This can impair your judgement and functioning." (Y/N) says. Gavin laughs. "You're not my babysitter, tin can." He says, lifting the glass to his lips. VN snatches the glass out of his hand, putting it on the bar. "What the fuck?" Gavin hollers, clambering out of his chair, almost falling in the process. "The alcohol had already taken affect, impairing your vital judgment. It is time to leave, sir." (Y/N) says, sternly. Her LED blinks yellow, analyzing his next move. Gavin reaches for his gun, which VN anticipated. She reaches forwards, knocking the gun out of his hands. "Hey, hey, hey!" Jimmy shouts. "No blood on my floor!" He says. A few people have formed a crowd around Gavin and the android. "Detective, we are leaving." (Y/N) says, picking his gun off the floor and pocketing it. "You fuckin' piece of shit," Gavin slurs. "You think you came come in and- and fuckin' steal my job, huh?" He raises his voice, grabbing her by her uniform again. (Y/N) looks down at him. She notes the pain, evident behind is glassy eyes.
○ Let Detective Reed continue
□ Render Detective Reed unconscious
■ Render Detective Reed unconscious
"Detective, I apologize, but this is for your own good." She says, gaining a confused look from Gavin. She presses her fingers into the point where his neck and shoulder meet. Gavin crumbles to the ground, (Y/N) catching him before he hits the ground. VN wraps his limp arm over her shoulders, hoisting him up. "I apologize, sir." She says to Jimmy. "Eh, don't worry about it. His drinks were on the house anyway." Jimmy says, waving her off. "Take care of him, okay?" Jimmy says. (Y/N)'s thiruim pump falters for a moment, catching her off guard. She scans herself again, not finding anything wrong. The crowd had disappeared, seeing that there would be no fight. She gives Jimmy at curt nod before bascially dragged her partner out the door.
(Y/N) had successfully put Gavin in the passenger seat, starting his car. She pulls out into the road. She had located the detective's apartment, following the coordinates. Once she arrives, Gavin is still unconscious. She drags him out of the car. It would be easier to carry him in her arms, so she does. Walking up several flights of stairs, she reaches his apartment door. She glances down at the keys on his key ring and then at the lock, analyzing the differnt key prongs and the internal structure of the lock. She selects the correct key, unlocking the door. Several cats, greet her at the door. A Burmese and a Chartreux cat. They purr and meow at her as she closes the door. (Y/N) scans the apartment. It's quite messy. The trash seems as if it hasn't been taken out in weeks, pizza boxes litter the counter and differnt files and papers litter the living room. (Y/N) contiunes, walking into Gavin's bedroom. Clothes cover the floor, along with an unmade bed. She sets her partner in the bed. She surveys the room again, finding the comforter on the ground. She nods to herself.
(Y/N) carefully removes his jacket, hanging it on a hook behind his bedroom door. She covers him with the comforter, studying him. He seems peaceful. His face, relaxed. No tension is held between is eyebrows. She tilts her head, reaching towards his face. There it is. The strange sensation in her sensors. She gently brushes his hair out of his eyes, almost mesmerized by how peaceful he is, compared to when he's consious. (Y/N) quickly pulls away as he rolls over in the bed, grunting in his sleep. She looks around his room again. It was very unorganized. She walks over to his half empty dresser, pushing the folded clothes back in order. She closes the drawers, gently. VN then, straightens the differnt colognes and pictures frames on his dresser. One catches her eyes. A picture of, what she assumes is Gavin as a teen, and another male. She tilts her head, the male seeming familiar. She straightens the frame, ignoring it.
VN picks up the dirty clothes off the floor, placing them in the hamper in the corner of Gavin's room. She could see the floor now. She turns off the lamp on his nightstand, straightening the things on top if it as well. She looks around the mostly clean room, leaving Gavin's room. She then drags the overflowing laundry basket out of his room. She closes the door behind her, seeing his cats staring at her. She looks down at the Burmese one as it rubs against her leg. She watches them pad off into another room. (Y/N) looks down the short hallway seeing the bathroom. She peeks inside. It was spotless. Strange. She walks into an empty room, what she assumes to be a guest room. It holds nothing. She walks out, going back to the main living room. Papers, magazines, files, newspapers. You name it. She grabs the file box in the couch, picking up all the papers and files, organizing them alphabetically. It took all but thirty minutes an twenty seconds. She puts the file box beside the couch. She puts all of the magazines and newspapers neatly on the coffee table. She picks up all of the empty and half empty coffee mugs, placing them softly in the sink. She would load his dishwasher later.
(Y/N) straightens his crooked TV on the wall. She then proceeds to organize his movies by type, then alphabetically. The living room was finished. She clicks on the lamp, closing the curtains. The sun was setting outside. It was six twenty-two. Androids didn't need sleep but she decided that when she finishes she would enter low-power mode to pass the time. She heads to the kitchen. It was filthy. (Y/N)'s LED circles blue. She grabs all of the dishes that were dirty and puts them neatly in the dishwasher. She puts the soap in, turning it on. She grabs a trash bag, placing the numerous empty pizza boxes inside. She empties the trash putting the bags by the front door. The cats come back in, hearing her working. "Hello." (Y/N) says, kneeling beside the cats. She looks at their collars. Coco and Bean. Who knew the detective liked cats, owned them, and gave them matching names. (Y/N) stands, beginning to wipe down the countertops, that were dusty and covering in crumbs. She puts the leftover pizza that wasn't old or moldy in the almost empty refrigerator. She rolls up her jacket sleeves disinfecting the grime in the sink. She notices his landlines blinking on the counter. She lets the chemical sit in the sink, walking over to the phone. Twenty new messages from the same number with the name Eli. She concludes it would be best to leave them be.
(Y/N) had loaded the washing machine with Gavin's dirty clothes. She had taken the towel from the dryer and folded them neatly, placing them in the linen closet. She rinses the sink next. Spotless. The apartment looked organized and neat. Nothing like the detective from the outside. It was currently twelve forty three. She blinks, hearing the dishwasher stop. She unloads it putting the coffe mugs, plates and utensils back in their respective places. Ealier, she had hauled the trash down to the dumpster behind the apartment complex. She was satisfied with the outcome.
(Y/N) completed all of the detective's laundry leaving it neatly folded ontop of the washer and dryer. She didn't want to disturb his slumber by putting away his clothes. She was finished. VN puts the detective's gun in a drawee in the kitchen. She walks over to the couch, sitting down. The cats jumps up, one testing in her lap and the other lying down beside her. She was interested in why the cats liked her so much. She'd have to research it later. She decided to enter low-power mode.
Thanks for the drabble request, anon! I hope you like it, I had a lot of fun writing something this lighthearted :)
Also I totally went over the word count here but since it took me less than an hour I've decided no one can question or judge me about this >:)
Honeyed Words (I'm Yours)
rk boys (Nines, Connor, Sixty) x Reader
Word Count: 1,849 (yeah... I know)
Leaning forward against the back of Hank's sofa with your arms folded over one another, you couldn't help but roll your eyes and fight back a sigh at the sight of the movies that Gavin, Tina, and Chris were saving to tonight's potential watch list.
"All rom coms? Seriously guys?"
You scoffed, watching as Gavin all but sneered in response, turning slightly to face you as you continued.
"Come on dude, where's your Halloween spirit?"
You teased, nudging him with your knuckles gently as he rolled his eyes at your antics, clearly far less amused than you were.
"It's September 23rd, don't you talk to me about Halloween until the month is over."
Groaning, you flung your body to the side, pressing your spine against the back of the couch and extending your arms straight out to either side of you as you pouted exaggeratedly,
"C'mon Reed, do you have to be such a stickler for seasonal deadlines?"
Instead of responding, your coworker just flipped you off, opening his mouth to call into the kitchen where all three of your boyfriends and their familiarly gruff father figure were standing around like divorcees at a barbecue.
"Hey robo cops, could you please come get your feral creature before I put it down myself?!"
He shouted, a smirk crossing his features when you pulled away from the couch to glare at him, already hearing the familiar sound of slightly swishing fabric and nearly silent footsteps that signaled the oncoming arrival of one of your partners.
"Y'know Reed, if you're really so worried about her being feral, you could consider getting a rabies shot. You've been looking a little sickly lately."
Sixty countered easily in response to your coworker's previous quip as he flung his arm across your shoulders, pulling you against him with a slight smirk.
You smiled at his easy embrace, nearly vibrating with joy as he kissed the top of your head, smiling down at you with that lopsided grin that always made you feel so giddy inside.
"Oh fuck off bullet brain, you're the one who let her do three shots of tequila tonight, don't act like I'm not allowed to be annoyed by her weird ass antics."
Sixty hummed in response, clearly feeling no urge to argue as he began guiding you towards the kitchen.
"C'mon Sugar, lets get some real food in you hmm?"
He purred against the shell of your ear, instantly lighting your cheeks on fire both with his proximity and his use of one of his favorite pet names for you, which never failed to give you butterflies.
As you grew closer to the dining area, he pressed gently on the small of your back to urge you past the threshold, though clearly you were a bit more tipsy than he'd realized, because you absolutely would've toppled over if not for the pair of familiarly strong hands that caught you by your shoulders.
You looked up slightly, taking in the sight of pale arms dotted with freckles that were barren of sleeves all the way up until just above the elbow, kept in place solely by the incredibly thorough job this individual had done while rolling them upward.
And that could only be...
"Nines."
You breathed out softly, feeling yourself melt a bit as you looked up into his eyes.
After well over a year of affection from all three of your partners, you just never got used to the way they all looked at you, or the sweet and familiar things they would call you in favor of your name.
And speaking of...
"Well hello there, Darling."
Nines spoke gently, quirking a brow at you in minor amusement as he looked you over for any signs of injury just in case he'd missed something during your brief fall.
You felt your cheeks grow warmer as the sound of his affectionate pet name for you passed his lips, making you melt even further beneath his persistent gaze.
"I uh, got kicked out of the living room."
You explained quietly, watching as Nines tilted his head slightly in response before looking towards Sixty, who shrugged before taking a few steps closer and placing his palm on top of your head affectionately.
"Gavin wasn't impressed at her input regarding tonight's films of choice. I figured if she was being that disruptive she likely needed something to eat. Isn't that right, Sweetheart?"
You blushed harder as yet another pet name passed his lips, but nodded nonetheless, hoping they hadn't noticed just how much you enjoyed it when they spoke of you so sweetly.
Of course, they had long since noticed your reactions, in fact, it was almost a bit of a game now to see who could get you to blush the hardest with affectionate nicknames alone.
Not that they would ever tell you that.
"Is that so?"
Nines questioned gently, his hand raising to your face to push a stray hair of yours behind your ear before his thumb and index finger trailed down to your chin, which he caught with ease between the two, tilting your face upwards to make sure you were looking at him as he spoke.
"Have you been up to no good, Little one?"
He all but purred, making you squeak a bit in response as you attempted to find words that just wouldn't come.
Thankfully though, you did have one saving grace, and his name was Connor.
"Are you two tormenting her again?"
He asked as he stepped away from the stove, wiping his hands off on a nearby dish rag before he moved closer to you, offering his open arms for you to all but leap into, happy to have the opportunity to hug the one android who you hadn't gotten the chance to be affectionate with since before you'd even arrived at the house earlier.
Sixty scoffed at Connor's question, but Nines simply gave a dismissive hum, leaning back against the counter and watching as you nuzzled against his predecessor's chest with a content sigh.
Meanwhile, Connor glared at his successors with mock disappointment, hoping to appease you and your childish attitude (tipsiness) by offering them a fake scolding.
"You both know better, look at her, she's being perfectly good tonight."
He said pseudo-sternly, smiling down at you with a grin that immediately left you breathless the moment that you looked up and took it in.
God, why were they all so damn beautiful?
At the sight of your eyes meeting his own, Connor leaned down to kiss your forehead, bringing one of his hands up to palm your cheek lovingly as he did so, stroking is softly with his thumb all the while.
He continued this in silence for a few moments before giving you yet another reason to attempt melting into the grout marks in Hank's kitchen floor.
"Don't you worry about them Honey, they're just being difficult because they want to see you squirm."
You swallowed thickly at the familiar and yet still immensely impactful nickname, which never failed to make your heart leap in your chest.
"O-okay."
You whispered, watching as Connor nodded in satisfaction at your response before guiding you back into the waiting arms of your other two android partners, who were watching you with marked amusement.
"I'll bring dinner out to you in just a few minutes."
Connor murmured against the back of your head as he pressed another gentle kiss to it.
"I was thinking you could go pick a comfy spot in the living room for all of us to sit together while you wait though. Does that sound alright, Baby?"
He asked gently, taking you by surprise yet again with his use of another pet name that made you feel like you were left gasping for air.
Still, you managed a floundering nod in spite of yourself, and followed Nines and Sixty out into the living room, where they helped you make a rather comfortable seating area on the floor, one that consisted of two huge bean bags, several couch pillows that no one was using, and at least four big blankets, one of which was for you to lay under.
And with that, the seating arrangements were completed, and all that was left to do was actually use them, which with how dizzy you were beginning to feel from the tequila earlier, was something you were quite eager for.
Nines chuckled as he took a seat a bit further back on one of the beanbags, spreading his legs apart for you to sit in between as he held himself up on his palms so that you could lean against his chest.
This was a fairly normal position for the two of you, but even so, it made your heart race as you felt his firm chest press against your back, solidly holding you up without any issue.
Still, even with this added distraction, your persistent urge to celebrate the upcoming holiday had you complaining to Gavin once more about his list of potential options, although this time you were hoping that at least one of your loving boyfriends would consider helping you out.
Sadly though, they seemed far too amused by your insistence to actually say anything, instead choosing to press gentle kisses against your head and the back of your hand as they laid the blanket over you wordlessly.
"Aww c'mon you guys, do you really wanna watch any of this junk?"
You asked, motioning towards the screen with a grumble of annoyance.
From the left of you, Sixty chuckled and raised your knuckles to his lips without a word.
Nines on the other hand, did speak up, placing a kiss to your cheek just before he did so, a certain level of amusement to his tone that had you squirming between his strong legs.
"I couldn't care less about what we watch, Sweetling."
He murmured against the shell of your ear, immediately causing you to shiver.
"And honestly, I think these are all movies Connor has mentioned wanting to see. Don't you want to make him happy?"
He teased, running a finger up and down your cheek as you nodded almost dreamily, sinking into his touch as if your body were suddenly weighed down by bricks.
"Y-yeah, sure, okay."
You said quietly, hearing Nines hum from above you just as Connor came out of the kitchen with a steaming bowl of food to offer you, Hank hot on his heels with a large bowl of popcorn for him and the other couch users to share.
You dug in immediately, not paying any attention to the movie choice debate until it was basically over, and by that point, you were already so sleepy that you hardly realized anyone was talking at all.
Drowsy and more than a little bit intoxicated, you sighed contentedly as you moved to squeeze between Nines and Sixty, allowing Connor to rest his head upon your lap as you played with his hair all the way up until you lost consciousness entirely.
Yeah, okay. Maybe rom com movie nights weren't so bad after all.
I hope you enjoyed this little drabble fic! If you want to request one for yourself feel free to check out this post :)
It's Leo's fault (Gavin Reed x reader)
“–how much money they’re gonna make out of it.”
Already laughing, you stopped next to Markus and looked at your father. “Let me guess: Dad’s complaining about the party as always.”
The old man gave you a disapproving look then let out a tired groan. “Come on, let’s have a drink! All the excitement of this whole thing has made me thirsty.”
When he turned away, you and Markus exchanged a knowing look, shaking your heads with a barely visible smile. It didn’t matter what social even it was, your father always complained. People loved him, but he usually wasn’t as enthusiastic as they were. Apparently tonight wasn’t any different.
“Scotch, neat, as usual?” Markus asked as you entered the living room.
“Absolutely.”
Suddenly your phone buzzed in your hand, letting you know you got a new message. Even though you weren’t expecting this text, somehow you weren’t surprised to read it at all. The only word that came to your mind was again.
While you quickly typed your reply, your father cleared his throat to catch your attention. “Darling, could you please put that thing away?” he asked once he let out a sigh. “I thought you were over this phase.”
“I am, believe me, but it was Gavin. He has to work late so I’m not in a hurry to get home,” you explained as you put your phone in your bag.
“I’ll never understand why you’re dating that guy.”
“Dad, come on. He’s not that bad.”
“He reminds me of your brother a little too much.”
This was a low blow considering your more than complicated relationship with Leo. “Because he hates androids?” you asked, hoping that was the only reason.
Your father nodded but you knew there was more. Seconds passed in silence before he said, “And because he’s… a little difficult.”
You and Gavin had been together for over a year, things were great between you, yet your father didn’t seem to accept him. If anything, he simply tolerated him because of you. As long as the two of them didn’t get into arguments, though, you were okay with that. You just had to make sure Gavin didn’t make any comments about Markus in your father’s presence, otherwise all hell would break loose if he began to defend his caretaker and friend. It had happened once in the past, and the last thing you wanted was repeating that scene.
“Would you like something to eat, Carl?” Markus suddenly asked, changing the topic.
You flashed a thankful smile at him. This wasn’t the first time he helped you out, and you were always grateful for his help. You were a real daddy’s girl, having a fight with him was something you had always tried to avoid. Markus was the lightning rod between the two of you, an excellent friend who wanted the best for both of you.
“I know what you’re doing, Markus,” your father told him with a smile before turning to you. “But fine, fine, I will leave your boyfriend alone.”
This was when your father noticed the lights in the studio were on. Markus confirmed he hadn’t left them on, so once he called the police, your father insisted on seeing what was happening in there. Both you and Markus believed it was a bad idea, but he was as stubborn as always, so the best you could do was going with him.
And then you found out the intruder was none other than Leo. That idiot needed money again, and since your father refused to finance his addiction, he decided to waltz into the house while he was gone, and steal some of his artwork. Your father wanted him out of the house but he didn’t want to leave, not yet. No, he wanted to confront him once again, accusing both of you that you were always taking Markus’s side instead of his. That you were choosing a plastic toy over your own blood.
That’s when things got nasty. Leo provoked Markus despite your father’s warning, then even pushed him to get a reaction out of the android. Eventually Markus did something you didn’t expect: He defended himself and pushed Leo. Your brother fell and hit his head, losing consciousness. Your father told him to leave before the police arrived because he knew Leo would make sure Markus was destroyed, but he didn’t want to leave.
When the police officers arrived, they shot Markus without hesitation. As you were threatening to sue them for the damage they had just caused, your father fell out of his wheelchair and you had no choice but to call an ambulance too. It was all Leo’s fault. That selfish moron…
Hours later you were sitting in your father’s hospital room, waiting for the nurses to bring him back when Gavin finally arrived. “I’m sorry it took so long to get here. I had to stay for an interrogation,” he explained hurriedly.
“It’s okay.” He sat down on the couch next to you and pulled you into a tight hug. “I’m glad you’re here,” you mumbled against his shirt.
“Where else would I be? How’s you dad?”
You leaned back a little to look him in the eye with a sad smile on your lips. “Luckily, he’s gonna be fine. The doctor said they might discharge him tomorrow.
“And Leo?”
“I couldn’t care less.”
“He’s your brother,” he tried as he swept a strand of hair behind your ear.
Gavin had always tried to make you see your brother as someone who needed help, but deep down you knew he also considered him nothing more but a pathetic junkie. Shaking your head, you let out an irritated sigh. “And he’s also a little piece of shit. He’s the reason why dad’s here in the first place.” He remained surprisingly silent so you looked back at him to see what was wrong. “Oh, I know this look. You want to put the blame on Markus.”
“Wasn’t him the one who pushed Leo?”
“In self-defense.”
“An android acting in self-defense? You know it sounds ridiculous, right?”
“Gavin, I’d rather not have this conversation with you right now.” You stood up and began pacing in the room in front of him. You really didn’t feel like getting into a fight which is why you did what Markus had always done when you and your father were about to argue about something. You simply changed the topic. “By the way, could you talk to your colleagues about what happened to Markus?”
He nodded. “They dumped him at Solid Waste Landfill,” Gavin told you nonchalantly.
They threw him out? But the damage didn’t seem so serious, you had been sure all along that CyberLife could easily repair him. “Did they make sure he was beyond repair?” you asked just to be sure.
“Why do you care about that piece of plastic so much?”
“That piece of plastic has been with our family for a long time,” you pointed out angrily, fighting the urge to slap him hard. “He knows us and Dad trusts him.”
Gavin remained silent for long seconds, knowing full well he was in trouble. “I’m going to check on Leo,” he said eventually.
“Have fun.”
Great. Now Gavin was gone too. Just when you needed him to be by your side, he started some stupid fight and left. After all this time he still couldn’t accept that Markus had been more than just an android–he was a family member. Burying your hands in your hair, you sat back on the couch and started crying. How bad could this night become?
Cogito, ergo sum
Chapter: 2
Pairing: Connor (RK800) x fem!reader
A/N: Hey guys! I want to apologise for the long wait between chpaters but seeing as I’m on my last year of college my school work is coming before everything else so it’s a little hard working between them! Don’t worry, I’m not dropping this series or anything just expect chapters to take a little long to be loaded and everything! Also, this chapter seems a little too far paced for me, so sorry about that as well!
Tags at the bottom once again!
I do not own Detroit become human this is merely fanficion
Warnings: Bad language, physical assault, threats (?), hints of abuse, (Name) being weird like always, also angry (Name), mentions of drugs, there’s a bit of slander against drug abusers that I do not condone!
Undercut babes!
It’s fascinating, it really is, the way her beautiful gaze follows you as you round her, studying her feverishly, your eyes wide and bright.
She’s...well, words cannot describe her. Her beauty lies beyond your imagination and you’re not quite equipped to say anything that her magnificent ears deserve to hear, your words are below her and she’s just-
Wow.
“Ms (Last), please-”
You raise your hand towards the younger engineer, silencing with a small utter of ‘hush’ and he’s shutting his mouth, falling back to the side of your desk with not much else to say.
The android you’ve been un-shamelessly ogling for the past 10 solid minutes is still very quiet, she’s just watching you in her manufactured attire, shy, nervous, scared- everything you really wish she wasn’t right now because there is no way you want her to see you as some sort of threat, far from it.
“Henry” Turning back towards the engineer, he stiffs up like a board, sweat forming on his brow “Why didn’t you dismantle her?”
It’s rude, it’s horrible to say and it sours your mouth when you form those words, but it’s an honest question, you want to know why someone would do this, keep her alive, see her for all her glory.
The public spoke strongly about their opinions of androids, like toys to be played with, slaves to be worked, not the thing you so desperately wanted people to see them as. The masterpieces that stood beyond human comprehension.
The android lets out a noise similar to a whimper as Henry stammers out.
“I-I couldn’t she- um- I-” Finally, he sighs with frustration, Henry makes eye contact with you “She said was scared and...I couldn’t”
You snap back to face her.
“Is that true?”
She hesitates, one second, two seconds, three seconds, four- it takes a whole 30 seconds before she’s finally responding. “Yes…”
Your chest bursts in excitement.
“You’re incredible” Henry deflates in relief, placing a hand against your desk while you grasp her cheeks, her warm grey eyes glancing between your two hands then meet your own stare, confused. “Amazing, beautiful, fantastic, so, so much more”
“...thank you”
You sniff, then you’re pulling away, trying to keep your tears abay. You really can’t believe that your work has gone so far, that new forms of sentient are evolving from a human’s hand, you’re so overjoyed by it all but you’re also kind of realising how weird you’re being.
“Sorry, I’m becoming the creepy stereotypical scientist, let me just-” Pulling off your lab coat, you throw it over her shoulders, pulling it tighter around her for her dainty hands to grasp and hold, a smile growing on her face in gratitude. You’re really still in awe of it all but send her a giddy smile back “Henry get Kamski I’m sure he’s gonna love this”
When the man disappears, closing the office door behind him, you guide her to a chair, kneeling before her kindly.
“Tell me” She waits patiently for you to continue “What’s your name?”
When she opens her mouth, you interrupt her, grasping her hands “No, not the name you were given, the name you have chosen. What is your name?”
You’re at the beginning of history right here, you can already see the books that are yet to be written, all starting at this very moment, with you and her. This android, this amazing, piece of living metal, is the start of something great and you can’t wait to be a part of it.
“My name is….”
-----------
“(Name), I’m sorry, but there isn’t really anything I can do”
Your hands come down on the desk, expression unbelieving.
“But he attacked Ortiz in self defence, it’s not fair for him to be shipped to Cyberlife! That hellhole already has enough test subjects with other deviants, why can’t he be let go!?” Pushing yourself back up, you drag your hands down your face in exasperation “He’s a victim! He was defending himself, why can’t we let him off with a lesser offence?”
Billie sighs, shutting the file softly. “Because in the eyes of the law, he’s not a victim. He’s property and there isn’t much we can do about that. Besides, because Ortiz is dead, his ownership basically goes back to Cyberlife, so they have the authority to take him back”
Billie’s right, you know that they’re right, but it’s just so frustrating, so vexing that this is the case. An android, in the eyes of society, is nothing more than their components, why should they be given the same privilege as those who eat, shit and breathe?
Billie may be a judge, but they didn’t make the law.
You remember years ago, when something like this would have been seen as detestable, that the masses would have stood up to fight this kind of horror, but for some reason, with age came stupidity and ignorance it seemed. What the fuck had happened to you all?
You open your mouth, then close it, then open it again before huffing, taking the file from their desk and ripping your coat off the hanger.
“I’m sorry, (Name)!” Billie calls and you wave them off, shouting back a ‘Don’t worry about it’ then close their office.
The courthouse is only a few blocks away from the precinct, a good walk away, a good way to calm yourself down until you’re having to face the frustration that comes in with having to work in such a high strung place. It’s funny really, you used to say ACAB when you were younger, still believed it too, so it’s really a wonder as to why you joined, but then again sometimes to make change you have to become the very thing you hate-
“Detective (Last)-”
You scream, almost dropping your files and jumping a meter within the air. Passerbys don’t even spare you a glance, a generation raised on the weirdest websites like Vine, Tiktok, Youtube and god forbid, Tumblr, have them desensitised to whatever shit people like to play at now-a-days.
“Oh my God, Inspector Gadget” A hand falls to your chest, checking your racing heartbeat “You can’t just sneak up on a bitch like that”
Connor, the big old puppy, tilts his head in mild confusion “But I called your name twice, detective”
Oh.
“What are you doing here, Connor?”
The android joins your side and you continue your way. “Lieutenant Anderson informed me that you were heading to the courthouse, so I decided to come and brief you about a new case”
A new case, of course a new case, deviancy keeps popping up all over the country rapidly but you can’t hold your surprise about the fact that it’s been a few days and there’s already a new case.
“Deadass?”
Wait, you hadn’t mean to say that-
His eyes narrow “Deadass?”
A snort escapes you “Oh my God I can’t believe you just said that, it sounds so cursed coming from your mouth. I meant, seriously?”
You swear on your life, on everything that may be above and so much more, that the android lets out a laugh when he continues, explaining the details as you finally enter the office.
You realise, as he talks, you feel a whole lot lighter than you had earlier.
-----------
“This guy is as scummy as it gets”
Unfortunately, you can’t help but agree. Todd Williams is about as charismatic as a dumpster fire, messy hair, messy face, stained clothing and the stench of alcohol clung when you finally met him, having to hold back a wince of disgust.
You don’t usually speak ill of others, but you know his type, from the way he carries himself to the way he speaks. You’ve had to face men like him before, his whole demeanor brings back bad memories and you’re so glad that you’re not the one having to get details from him, to have to speak to him.
One thing’s for sure though, you don’t blame whatever deviant decided to book it from him.
“Why doesn’t he just...get a refund from Cyberlife?” You take a sip of your milkshake, staring at Hank, Connor and Mr Williams who looked to be ending off their conversation. “They do that for deviants, don’t they?”
Yes, if you remember, the new flashy CEO of the hell corp spoke it for all to see, that deviance is guaranteed to offer you your cash back.
How inhumane it all sounded.
Gavin scoffs, drinking his coffee “You think a guy like that cares about refunds?”
No. You know why he’s doing it. It’s all about power for fuckers like that.
Mr Williams leaves, Hank is looking through his notes, Connor is heading your way, probably to refer all the information back to you and Gavin is taking in a breath to start his bullshit again, despite your civilness that you had been sharing.
Eh, peace was never an option-
“Your metal boyfriend is heading this way”
The noise you make isn’t human, it’s a mix of a wheeze and scream, like you’ve just choked on the air your breathing and in all honesty, you have, but you’re not letting that mother fucker get away with catching you off guard, especially when he starts laughing.
“Shut up, furry”
Your actually feel the air from his head snapping towards you. “I’m not a fucking furry, quit fucking saying it!”
You pat his shoulder “It’s alright, Reed, we all know you wrote yiff fiction in your spare time-”
You dodge his fist, running away from his red, angered face and petty insults, dragging Connor away from the break room to the side, all while laughing up a storm.
Having your attention on the android again brings back Gavin’s words, his tease of ‘boyfriend’ which makes your face heat up, in what? You’re not quite sure, but it’s enough to make Connor notice your oddity.
“What were you and Detective Reed-”
“Nothing” You cackle, patting down his shoulders to distract yourself “He’s just being an arsehole again, nothing to worry yourself over”
And worry himself he didn’t, because he couldn’t of course, android and all.
Connor was quick to fill you in, an AX400 by the name of Kara had stolen (the word kidnapped comes to mind but you know that the robot detective will just ‘correct’ you on your wording) another android, Mr William’s ‘daughter’, model YK500 named Alice after assaulting him the night before. Mr Williams had been knocked out after the ordeal, as to why it had taken him so long to report it.
“Were there any signs of assault that you could see? Ones that could lead to a potential take down or unconsciousness?” Connor takes a moment before shaking his head “Yeah, I didn’t think so”
What a lying fuck.
“Let’s head to the briefing room”
Hank is there, as well as a whole group of other police officers, talking amongst themselves as you situate yourself behind the podium, screen remote in hand and smiling brightly. Your partners are at your side, Connor in his usual stoic stance while the old fart has his arms crossed, bored as always and you’re ready to debrief the many uniforms but they keep talking, even after you clear your throat.
You’re not one to get angry at being talked over, annoyed, yes, but anger leads you nowhere with a crowd, so instead, you use your most favourite tactic to date
“Pay attention to me or I am gonna start screaming people” You sing. Not a threat, but a promise. “And you all know I will screech like mother fucker”
The room is silent in the next second.
“Great! So-”
The door to the room bursts open.
“Fucking really-”
“Detective (Last)'' It's the front office assistant and by the looks of it, he is panicked, worried even, as he addresses you. You suddenly feel your stomach knot up “I’m sorry, but there’s been an emergency with your relative Carl Manfred”
You swallow, hard. “What?”
The meeting ends right then and there.
-----------
Hank hurls to a stop right outside the entrance. You’re already halfway out of the car when he shuts off the vehicle, Connor is taking off his seatbelt and you’re already racing down the soaked concrete path to the front door, rain pelting down on you.
You barely feel it though.
You startle the receptionist when you slam your hands down, eyes wide in panic, breathing coming out in fast, short pants and just looking as though you faced the masses to make it to this spot, right in front of her.
“Carl Manfred, he was brought here about an hour ago is he-”
She interrupts “Are you family?”
“Yes, please, I-”
“In what relation do you have to the patient?”
Is she really fucking serious right now? You debated leaning over and strangling your answer out of her, letting her know what kind of fucking pain you could put her through in this very moment-
But the hand that is placed against your back keeps you still. It’s warm and comforting and keeps you from mauling the fucker right out of her chair, though it doesn’t calm your anxiety, no, but at least it’s there.
You turn to see Connor, who nods towards you politely.
Huh, what a twist of events.
Hank leans over from your other side, looking just as angry as you feel, though he keeps his voice civil when he speaks “Listen, her old man’s just had a heart attack, could you drop the formal shit so she can see him?”
Her voice is sharp, just like her stupid fucking face and she snaps back “I can’t let you in unless I know your relation, unless you’d like to be escorted out by security”
Damn, she’s playing with fire and you’re ready to throw oil all fucking over her.
“I don’t fucking think so-” Pulling out your badge, you slam it against the desk, with nothing short of a growl “Police. Now, tell me where my fucking dad is or you’ll regret the next words that come out of your mouth”
You never abuse your power as a cop, it’s inhumane and back in your younger days you sneered at the disgusting police who would use their authority for their own gain, so you hate to admit but the nervous look that crosses her face when she sees your badge and Hank’s when he pulls it out for extra effect scratches an itch you begged to be scratched.
“Floor 3, the front desk will inform you what room”
“Thanks” You spit, already rushing to the elevator, the other two following.
Connor is quiet, to your surprise. Honestly, you expected him to speak out about your behaviour, your attitude, your unprofessionalism, but he says nothing, just trails after the two of you in silence, obediently, just like he was made for.
It’s comforting having him here, even if he’s just following orders.
The next receptionist is kinder than the last (she even scowls at the mention of her coworker) and points down the hallway, to where two officers stand with cups of coffee within their hands. They stiffen in surprise at your arrival, but you pay them no mind, pushing your way into the room where you finally pause, taking in the scene of your beloved father figure, laid still within the bed, pale, heart monitor beeping occasionally.
The doctor by Carl’s side looks up at you. “I’m sorry, but who are you?”
Hank and Connor wait outside.
“(Name) (Last), Carl’s daughter and emergency contact” You explain, walking further into the room “Is he- Can I-”
“He’s fine” She explains with a comforting smile And yes, you can come closer, though the medication has him knocked unconscious so he won’t be talking any time soon”
The relief almost has you collapsing, brings you back from the panic attack that threatens to kick your arse right in front of everyone and you finally breathe normally.
“Thank you, and you are?”
“Dr Collins” Collins offers her hand and you shake it weakly. “Your father is going to be okay, (Name), but he’s going to need a lot of rest. Cardiac arrest at this age can be fatal, so we were lucky that he lived so close”
You nod, tiredly slinking to Carl’s side to drop into the cushion chair, taking his hand in yours. Kissing it lovingly, you place it close to you in comfort, in reassurance.
‘He’s fine, he’s fine, he’s going to be okay-’
“What are you doing here?”
Your anger shoots right back up, as does you head when you turn to look at the doorway.
“Leo” The name is dragged out of your mouth, it’s spoken with a heavy coat of venom and dirt and for all the participants who are about to see this wild shit show, is a clear indication that you’re far from happy to see the man that stood there. “The fuck are you doing here?”
He scoffs “I’m family, what else am I here for?”
“Oh I don’t know,” You’re standing, stalking closer to him with a raged gleam in your eye “To mooch off him a little bit more?”
The tension can be cut with a knife, everyone can see it, feel it, even Connor, who looks ready to intervene at any given moment.
“No, detective” One of the officiers starts, cutting in in hopes to keep you both calm. “He was there when it all happened, he saw everything-”
“He was there?” No, her words only add fuel to the fire and you’re glaring at your brother once again “You were there? The fuck were you there for? You did this?”
“No!”
“Please calm down” Collins cuts in “I understand the anger but the other patients-”
You ignore her, glancing around the area when a thought struck you.
“Where’s Markus?”
Connor’s the first to respond, “Who’s Markus, detective (Last)?”
“Dad’s care bot” A pin drops, no one is speaking, the two cops are quiet, Leo is scowling, but he’s not looking at you and your anger is quickly making room to fear, cold and stabbing when you push again, harsher, angrier “Where the fuck is Markus?”
The second officer speaks this time, hat in his hands and you know what happens next is not going to be good.
“He was leaning over your father when we walked in detective, Mr Leo Manfred told us he attacked him” The man gulps, hesitating. He’s not nervous for what he’s done, no, he’s nervous about the dark look that seems to be slowly taking over your eyes, “I shot him”
A beat goes by. Then another, another, another, another, another-
“Why were you there in the first place?” It’s soft, curious, but the rage behind it is big, your need for an answer is keeping it back “What was the call for?”
“I’m sorry, I don’t-”
“Answer the question, officer”
His partner offers up the answer “....A break in, ma’am”
There’s silence, then you nod in understanding.
No one is quick enough to stop you from shoving Leo into the wall, hands wrapped tightly around the lapels of his jacket and holding him up so you can scream at him properly, face feeling hot from anger, eyes wild from rage, practically feral.
“You fucking did this! This is your fault, you good for nothing fuck!” You pull your hand back and punch him right in the face, he’s too in shock to react but everyone else is trying to pull you off “What?! Were you off your shit from snorting that fucking powder again, you damn druggie!? Huh!? HUH!? You high right now, too!?”
“Jesus fucking Christ, (Name), let go!” Hank yells but he’s fucking impressed by your resistance.
“He could have died because of you, you good for nothing cunt! Worthless piece of shit! Now, Markus is fucking dead because of you, the person who was actually fucking taking care of him! This is all your fault! He’s in that hospital bed, because of you! You! Did! This! All for those stupid drugs! You’re fucking pathetic!”
You’re finally tugged off by someone, their arms slipping under your own to stop you from going back at him again. The officers are acting as a wall between you and your brother, Dr Collin’s is checking his nose as blood drips down his face, Leo is still in shock and Hank is leaning over, hands propped onto his knees. That leaves...
“I’m sorry detective (Last), but I’m going to have to restrain you until you calm down”
You scream in frustration and try to fight against it, but damn, you have to admit in a moment of clarity, Connor is fucking strong.
“Lieutenant Anderson, if you could take her legs, we can escort her out of the building without much trouble” Hank huffs something under his breath probably a grunt of ‘fucking android’ but complies, glaring at you when he leans down.
“You kick me and I’ll kick your ass”
Your respect for him makes you comply, but the anger doesn’t stop you from cussing both him and the android out, naming every threat under the sun as they carry you out of the building, back to the car which you are shoved placed into.
“Let me out of this fucking car, Hank!” You bellow, glaring at the man with sharp eyes who stood outside the vehicle, leaning against it “I’ll break this fucking window, I swear to fucking God!”
“You can try, but we both know you won’t!”
Once again, you’re screaming, tugging frantically at the door’s handle that you know is locked, but are way too angered to care right now.
Connor sits by your side, a good distance away to not antagonise you, silent, waiting and watching as you slowly fall from angry to desperate, tears welling within your eyes and falling down your cheeks. It only takes a few more moments for you to stop altogether, your shoulders shaking as you sob, quietly but strong.
The android finally speaks “Detective (Last)-”
You’re on him in a moment, arms wrapped around his frame, face buried into his shoulder, wetting his suit jacket as you cry, shaking.
It’s a new one for Connor. An android built for detective work, to sniff out the bad deviants, to question suspects and actually built with a comforting feature for victims of crimes. But this is a first, a first he’s seen anyone to tears, more importantly, a first of seeing you so broken. Sure, he had seen you defeated those few days ago, but this is different, you’re not trying to hide conflicting feelings behind your bubbly smile and weird jokes, you’re just...crying. Nothing more, nothing less.
His arms are hovering at your sides, hesitant, unsure and it’s not until Hank gestures from outside the car to ‘fucking do something, you stupid machine’ that the protocol finally kicks in, his arms coming to wrap around you securely and comforting, reassuring you through your whimpers.
Connor is a robot, a machine that feels nothing.
But seeing you cry isn’t something he can just let happen.
Software instability.
