Victor woke early the morning of the first skate for the Grand Prix Final to go on a walk by the ocean, leaving Yuuri to sleep peacefully in the hotel room.
He heard sound of seagulls and the waves crashing on the shore. He felt the sea breeze and the early morning sun on his face as he stared out at the beach from the boardwalk. Wordlessly he raised his hand to look at the golden ring he acquired the night before.
Suddenly he was kicked aggressively in the back.
*Kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick* “Victor Nikiforov is dead!”
He turned around to look Yuri in the eyes.
“Why do you look so happy to be looking after that damn pig?”
He took a step forward to confront the angsty teenager. “Did you want to compete against me?”
“Don’t be so full of yourself. Not all skaters look up to you. Just go away already, geezer.”
Victor grabbed the teen’s chin to take a closer look at Yuri’s face. A gust of wind blew through, rustling their hair around as they looked at each other.
Victor’s hand trembling, Yuri muttered, “The ring you got from that pig is garbage. I’ll win just to prove how incompetent his owner is.”
Victor cooly smiled as the younger skater pushed him away, “Let me go!”
Yuri slapped away his hand and took a few steps back.
A dog barks in the background on the beach towards the sun. The pair looks at the man and dog walking along the beach. Almost resembling the future Victor could have with Yuuri and Makkachin.
Victor narrates ~ If I’d stayed in Russia as a competitor, Yurio wouldn’t be this motivated to fight. And neither would I…
Seagulls cry as they fly in the air and Yuri walks away. He turns once again to talk to Victor, “This place reminds me of Hasetsu’s ocean.”
Victor smiles, “I thought that, too.”
He stares back at the waves and the rising sun in the distance. Yuuri, you may not realize this, but many others besides me got their “L words” from you.

havent been on tumblr for a while but i have been rewatching yuri on ice recently (yes, its that time of the year) & ive been listening to stammi vicino almost non-stop (thank god spotify wrapped alr came out bcs im inclined to believe it wouldve been my top song for this year otherwise) so needless to say i have heard this exact song looped many times & tell me why i just realized that we hear two different versions of it in the anime !!!!!!
im sure many avid fans of the show have long known this already, which is truly embarrassing for myself, having grown up in a music school, but i digress. the first is the original stammi vicino, used in viktor's fs program (the one that yuri famously copies). the other is the duet version we hear during yuri and viktor's pair skate in the former's exhibition.
there are quite a lot of noticeable differences. firstly, the duet is cut in length; perhaps because they didnt require the full duration of the song for the part that it was included in or other reasons, but i think its notable to acknowledge the lyrics that were excluded:
With a sword I wish I could cut those throats singing about love I wish I could enclose in ice the hands that write those verses of burning passion
This story that has no meaning Will vanish tonight together with the stars If I could see you, eternity will be born from hope
this is taken straight from the yoi wiki page. essentially, in the original this can be interpreted as viktor mourning his loneliness and yearning for a great love. its highly sentimental but also bitter in a way, even. viktor's status as someone of incredible fame and talent has distanced him from life and love, which is ironic given that he is now skating to a love song. the music naturally reflects this: cmiiw but i think the ensemble fits the standard of an orchestra from the romantic period; you can tell from the dramatic use of percussion, wind instruments, and the grandiose crescendos and range of emotion in general. the way i see it, this very much encapsulates what viktor is actually skating about: it displays itself as a very bold declaration of love, in line with viktor's reputation as a legendary, almost mythic figure, but the reality is that no one is there to stay close to him. he is begging for a love that does not exist; an absence of it.
compared to the original, the duet is much more subdued, but no less sentimental. there is a sweeter, more assured quality to it that i feel is missing from the other version, which is clearly yuri's effect on viktor's life. i remember reading a fic recently about how the main instruments used in yuri on ice (the song) aka the piano and the violin actually represent yuri and viktor's respective roles in yuri's journey, though i believe they also took inspiration from someone else's idea. regardless, thank you to whoever it was that initially came up with that analysis!!!!! because of that i understand why the duet begins with piano instead of a wind instrument like in the original; another nod to yuri's presence. there's also a much clearer emphasis on the violin in the duet!
(also, idk about you but when i listen to the duet as it nears the end, even though they never show the full exhibition program, its so easy to imagine how they continue skating the rest of the routine. down to the ending pose & everything. just soooo visceral and excellent)
whew. long-winded rant about stammi vicino over. i love this song & i genuinely think that even if you have no interest in yoi you should still listen to the soundtrack (passacaille in barcelona & kamome are in my top 3). worth ittttt

Going at my own pace rn, it feels good to breathe. Not to rush to live, but to just be~
To truly be in the moment, to only think of what you are doing whilst doing it rather than thinking of what you must do next.
Stress and anxiety is killing me, it has been, maybe I should just try not being stressed and anxious. Good solution, good job Jacob.

Passacaille in Barcelona
Before I start rambling about this particular OST from YOI Soundtrack, please do note that I’m not a music major student and certainly not a music prodigy, I’m just someone who like to deeply analyze things lol (and ofc, this is only my interpretation so feel free if you have any other opinion). And this post is based on some post I accidentally saw on tumblr few days ago saying that some people speculate that “Passacaille in Barcelona” is a companion piece to Yuri on Ice, but this time, Victor is the piano while Yuuri is the violin.
Okay, let’s get started then.
So if you already hear the soundtrack, Passacaille in Barcelona is that instrumental piece used as background in episode 10 (during Victor + Yurio beach scene in the morning) and slightly at episode 12 (during that talk when Yuuri wanted to end things and during the short clip of the beach after that). This song, in my opinion, has that “sad but calm” feeling; kinda like a song that you hear when you reminiscing past memories, the one that make your heart warm and flutter, but also with a bit hint of sadness there.
While Yuri on Ice is about Yuuri’s journey: his growth, his achievement throughout the story, his life and love with Victor; Passacaille in Barcelona is about looking back into all of those things already happened, but this time it’s from Victor’s POV. To simplify things, let’s just break the song into three distinctive parts: the piano at the beginning, the majority of the song aka the piano-violin duet, and the piano at the ending of the song. Also, once again, remember that Victor is the piano.
First, the piano at the beginning. We all know what is Victor’s main reason of taking break, abandoning his career, going to Japan, and coaching Yuuri. We all know that he’s lonely, that he already lost all motivation and inspiration, that he desperately need something to spark his dull life. And that’s the first part of the song. The lonely piano at the beginning is Victor; it’s about him being alone, being confused about what to do (well at least until he saw Yuuri skate to Stammi Vicino), being lost in his own glory and fame. But it’s short. It’s short because he doesn’t want to dwell on that dull and depressing past for too long, it’s short because he just want to move on and remembering all goodness that happened in his life after that. Or simply to say: after he met Yuuri again and became his coach.
Then, hopping into the second part: the piano and violin duet. Of course, this is all about Victor relationship with Yuuri. But since this is from Victor’s POV, you can hear how the piano isn’t that dominant in this part. It’s just a background accompanying the violin, the harmony to make the violin much more stronger and stand out and catch everyone’s attentions. In sentence, maybe it’s something like, “I’ll do anything, give anything, to make you shine. It’s your time. It’s your spotlight, not mine.” And yes, basically that’s what Victor did, right? He didn’t even care with his World Championships title, he just care about Yuuri. He will do anything to help Yuuri reach his goal, even though it’s actually kinda frustrating to him. I mean, at the beginning, Yuuri didn’t even realize that Victor wanted more than just student-coach relationship (just look at him being “It’s katsudon!!” with that Eros-thingy lol). Yuuri strongly thinks that their relationship isn’t something permanent, that it will fade over time because Victor is just too good and all to him (I don’t blame him, that’s his anxiety talking and I know how it feels). So yeah, it’s frustrating, but Victor chose to compromise with that. He will take what he can get, he will do anything as long as Yuuri stay close to his side. He hoped that Yuuri will never retired, because he thought that that’s the only way for them to keep being together.
But then, things started to be different when they exchanged the rings. In the song, you can hear that the piano is gradually getting stronger too around 02:00 mark (it’s getting stronger in my opinion if you hear it through earphone). And for me, that’s just simply beautiful and meaningful. It shows how much both of them actually getting stronger, not just Yuuri, but Victor too. Just like what Victor thought during the beach scene, that Yuuri not only give him (and people around him) love and life but it’s more than that. It’s about getting stronger together, it’s about supporting each other and not putting someone up there on the high pedestal. They grow so much, that maybe, maybe that time at the beach, Victor just wanted to proudly say: "We are happy, and content, and will always be there for each other.”
Until Yuuri asked him to end things, and this is where the third part of the song comes. I keep wondering why they showed a short glimpse of the beach the morning after the talk, along with a short piano part of this song, and then suddenly the (angsty) thought came into mind. What if, what if the lone piano part at the ending of the song means that Victor actually... okay with Yuuri ending things? Okay, we know he was angry and he wouldn’t just give up that easily, but still, the decision at that time was on Yuuri’s hand. He can’t keep pushing Yuuri if Yuuri doesn’t want that, and I believe that Victor knows that better than anyone. So yes he would try, but that lone piano symbolizes how he would accept any decision made. Even if that decision end up hurting him, anything, as long as Yuuri’s happy with his own decision. And it just broke my heart, thinking that somehow, deep down inside, Victor might have this kind of thought. That he is okay even if the worst thing end up becoming reality; because while looking back at all those moments happened in their life, it was worth it and it already gave him reasons to feel alive again. Yuuri deserved to be happy and to make all decisions he wants, so Victor will let him to do that (and ofc while trying to not give up).
(And let’s be glad that Yuuri end up choosing to keep skating because if it’s not, I think my heart will seriously break)
Will go back to listen Passacaille in Barcelona in repeat now, have a good day everyone! <3

Nephi question! If they had a dating sim\visual novel centered around them, what pre-existing sim\visual ost would the game have?
oooo okok
truth be told, i haven't played many VNs or dating sims, but from what i've played, maybe the battle system of Arcana Twilight (and, by extension, Obey Me!), the setting of TWST, the relational plot of Our Life (both OL:BA and OL:NF), and the general aesthetic/artstyle of maybe something like KNY
as for the OST, i was thinking of a waltz as a main theme (think of Yuri on Ice's Passacaille in Barcelona as Neph's theme) but i dunno what else lol
what about Yume? what does her dating sim/visual novel look and sound like?
