The Pascagoula Abduction: Alleged Alien Encounter in Mississippi.
On October 11, 1973, in Mississippi, Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker reported to local authorities that they encountered an unusual oval-shaped object while fishing. They described hearing a whirring sound, seeing flashing blue lights, and being temporarily paralyzed. According to their account, three robotic-like creatures with slit mouths and pincers took them aboard the object and conducted an examination.
The incident gained significant attention, with Hickson and Parker sharing their experiences through interviews, television appearances, and books. Hickson claimed additional encounters with aliens, while Parker later established a company focused on UFO investigations.
Despite the claims made by Hickson and Parker, skepticism arose surrounding the case. Aviation journalist Philip J. Klass identified discrepancies in Hickson's story and criticized his refusal to take a polygraph exam. Skeptical investigator Joe Nickell suggested that Hickson may have experienced a hypnagogic "waking dream state" and that Parker's corroboration could be attributed to suggestibility.
In recent years, a historical marker was unveiled at the site of the alleged abduction, acknowledging the event's significance in local history. However, Calvin Parker passed away in 2023 after battling kidney cancer.
The Pascagoula Abduction remains a notable case in the realm of UFO sightings and alien encounters, sparking discussions and debates about the existence of extraterrestrial life and the reliability of eyewitness accounts.

Pascagoulan UFO-sieppauksesta 50 vuotta

Fleur De Lis Bar and Grill
Patiently Waiting in Pascagoula...
Morning, the limner settles at the bar. His face was a patchwork of thoughts, half finished, and rushed to close all the same. Many of the thoughts playing on his face conceal none of the concerns therein. I am sure that most of the thoughts die before they are born, erupting into whatever snake's nest hides behind those eyes.
"Hey," he says with his usual everything and nothing greeting. It could mean, 'Hey, how are you?' or 'Hey, what are you looking at?' Maybe a combination of the two. I don’t know. I don't suppose that even if I did, it would change anything. He ain’t from around here. And yet he’s more of a regular than I ever could be. I am sure he lets me see and think about him only because he finds it funny. Some celestial joke only he knows.
I respond back, "Sup?" Knowing he’d never answer. He’d never let me in.
"You know." He responds. Again, that open, full-force inspection of me as he speaks. It could mean I know too much. Or maybe even you know nothing, asshole.
One of these days, I am going to call him on it. One of these days I am going to get into it with him. Just not today or anytime soon. Piss-poor and dead by every real metric is still better than tangling with someone who shares blood with Prince Christopher. Pascagoula ain’t that bad of a place that I am in any rush to risk it or my soul tangling with someone who only goes by a mononym and has the prince's ear. Licks have died permanently for less.

The 1973 Pascagoula Alien Abduction
On the night of October 11, 1973, co-workers Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker were fishing on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi when the two men suddenly heard a hissing sound coming behind them. When they turned around, they saw an oval-shaped craft hovering in the air and flashing blue lights. A door on the craft opened, and three robot-like creatures floated down toward Hickson’s and Parker’s boat. The creatures were about 5 feet tall, with gray wrinkled skin, clawed hands, and slits for eyes and a mouth. The two men found themselves paralyzed and unable to resist being grabbed by the creatures. Parker fainted at this point, and they were then floated up into the spaceship with their abductors. According to Hickson, he was taken into a room full of light and examined by an oval-shaped probe that circled around his body. When the probe had finished its examination, the creatures floated out of the room and then floated Hickson back outside after 20 minutes. Hickson found Parker on the shore, crying and praying.  The spaceship then left, and Hickson and Parker went into their car to calm down and try to make sense of what happened.
Although afraid that nobody would believe them, Hickson and Parker called the Kessler Air Force Base, which recommended that they report the incident to the local sheriff. At first, the sheriff and his deputies were skeptical and thought the men were drunk. When they left Hickson and Parker alone in a room with a secret tape recorder, however, they continued to talk as though the experience were real. At one point, Hickson told Parker, “It scared me to death too, son. You can’t get over it in a lifetime. Jesus Christ have mercy.” The story appeared on local newspaper headlines the next day, and soon news reporters and UFO investigators were crawling all over Pascagoula and harassing Hickson and Parker at their workplace. Hundreds of UFO sightings in Mississippi were reported in the next couple of weeks, including an encounter by some Coast Guardsmen with a glowing object moving underwater in the Pascagoula River.
While Parker initially tried to keep his distance from the incident, Hickson gave media interviews and lectures about his experience, even visiting local schools. In 1983, he published “UFO Contact at Pascagoula” with investigator William Mendez, a full-fledged (and rare) book about the encounter and three incidents of psychic telecommunication he said that he received in 1974. Until he passed away in September 2011, Hickson continued to insist that the story was true and that the creatures he saw were peaceful aliens concerned about the earth. After participating in some hypnotic sessions, Parker recovered vague memories about what had happened that night. Unlike Hickson, he was wary of the attention he attracted, and eventually moved out of the state. Over the past two decades, he has become more open to interviews and has even participated in UFO conventions.

Famous Cryptids Day 17: The Pacagoula River Aliens were an urban legend that was quickly found out to be just a hoax. The vague description includes crab-like hands, feet close together or stuck together, wrinkled skin, and three spikes on the head instead of eyes, with a flat mouth. The "official" rendering looks a bit like the robot from The Day the Earth Stood Still so I took the described aspects to more of an extreme.
