. . Antique auspicious Paruppu thengai Koodu from an Orthodox Tamil Brahmin's family heirloom, 70+ years old multi coloured stained glass with gold foil decorated, seen here is the traditional conical pair of decorated moulds for sweets, mandatorily used in preparing & presenting the paruppu thengais for all auspicious functions like marriages, seer, upanayanam, grahapravesam, valaikappu, seemantham, ayush homam, sashtiabdhapoorthi (60th Wedding), sadhabishekam (80th Wedding) at Tamil Brahmin's homes, Paruppu thengai represents twin mountains of sweetness/ Happiness, they are always seen in pairs symbolizing male & female, along with small roundel balls which represents children. Traditional sweets like peanuts burfi, gram sweet balls, sweet boondhi, manoharam, ladoo, rava urundai, Maa ladoo etc are made, filled in these pair of metal cone moulds to get the conical shape.The cones mostly made of aluminium, steel called ‘Paruppu thengai kuumbu’ or ‘Paruppu thengai koodu’ or ‘Seer koodu’. These koodus are decorated according to ones imagination, creativity and wealth, ranging from basic gift paper wrap to highly intricate tanjore art mirror work, gold foil work etc. The pressed sweets are unmoulded from the cones without breaking the shape, wrapped with decorative gold foil paper or gift papers with flowers on the top. Presented neatly at the stage along with other ‘seer’/ Dowry items. As a Custom these is made by the brides family in sets of 3 to 5, to be given as a dowry gift. Which are distributed among relatives and friends at Grooms family as return wedding treats.. . .
