“At school the next day, when the children are asked by their teachers what they enjoyed the most, the same answer comes back time and again: what the children love the most is running free for forty-five minutes in a field. And after all our hand-wringing about what they should ‘learn’. 

I like to watch them running around, tumbling and getting dirty hands or wet knees. Sometimes they spread their arms out, like wings, and run down the hill as if they are flying. One little boy came running back to his teacher, red-faced, and shouted, ‘Look, Miss ... we are like birds’. The teacher turned to me and said, ‘You know, hardly any of them have ever been this free before, it’s amazing’.

When I hear this, I am not sure whether to laugh with joy or to cry with despair, because something so simple, so normal to previous generations, is now vanishingly rare for so many children. What kind of world have we created? Everyone should have a place where they can spread their wings and fly.”

Non potevo non postare anche l'altra opera di Coralie...le illustrazioni sono anche qui meravigliose (è riduttivo usare parole per descriverle e la volpe è adorabile) e la storia è dolceamara ma con un finale che ti scalda il cuore (rappresentato anche dall'uso dei colori e dei toni nel corso della narrazione). Per i miei gusti personali preferisco 'The Worm and the Bird' per la trama ma questo vince per i disegni! 🇬🇧 I just couldn't help myself...I had to post another book by Coralie because the illustrations are just too much (I can't describe how adorable the fox is). The story is bittersweet but with a warming ending which I think is represented as well with the sapient use of colours throughout the narration. I'm currently reading 7 books at the same time but would like to reduce to 2 or 3 but something else often catches my interest. What are you reading? . Thanks for the poetry book Bone @particularbooks @penguinbooks. The way @yrsadaleyard uses simple words and repetition creates impact and a powerful story. Bone is made up of a range of semi - autobiographical poems that delve deep into relationships, mental health, gender and sexuality. I can't wait to see what she produces next. Great debut.
