The name apparently translates as Spotted Silkbird, but I don't know what's particularly silky about them. Only distantly related to the feathered Jurassic dinosaur Serikornis.

A small passerine bird found in undergrowth from Adelaide west to Shark Bay. Before 2019 they would have been considered part of the White-browed Scrubwren, S. frontalis, but the taxonomy of the various subspecies of both remains a bit fluid, and they're known to be cross-fertile where the ranges overlap. Their family, the Acanthizidae—sometimes called Australian warblers - are a sister taxon to the Pardalotes (Pardalotidae).

Scrubwrens are among Australia's most active birds, constantly foraging in pairs amongst the leaf-litter for insects, other small arthropods, and the occasional seed.

The call is a harsh chattering of scalding notes, especially when disturbed. Scrubwrens are also accomplished mimics.

The nest is a large ball of grasses and other plant material, with a side tunnel leading to a cup lined with feathers. This is normally built on or near the ground in thick vegetation, but may be in a tree fork a few metres above. Acanthizids have unusually long incubation periods for passerines, rivalling those of much larger Corvids - Scrubwrens may take 3 weeks to hatch.

Another linocut: Spotted Pardalote! When I was in Australia I accidentally held a nest cavity hostage when I sat in front of it to eat my lunch. The owner of the cavity was none too pleased with me.

The Pardalotos punctatus is a bird of the family Pardalotidae. It measures on average between 8 and 10.5 centimeters. It is colored: On top is brown and below it is yellow, in addition to white spots on top. It is responsible for fertilizing the soil of Australia.

The Striated Pardalote (Pardalotus striatus) is the least colourful and most common of the four pardalote species. Other common names include Pickwick, Wittachew and Chip-Chip. It is a very small, short-tailed bird that is more often heard than seen, foraging noisily for lerps and other small creatures in the treetops....

The Striated Pardalote's plumage varies considerably across its range. The crown is black, with subspecies substriatus, striatus and ornatus having white streaks. The eyebrow is white, starting with a yellow mark near the beak. All races have a white stripe on the wing and olive backs. The nominate race has a yellow spot on the wing, whilst the other subspecies have a red dot. The male and female are similar, juveniles have duller plumage. Similar species include the Spotted Pardalote and the Red-browed Pardalote....

Striated Pardalotes occupy a vast range of habitat types from tall mountain rainforest to arid scrubland, and are found in all parts of Australia except some of the Western Australian deserts.
