"Cerca las bolas del culo"
Se hace el silencio, el comodo ambiente creado a traves de la conversación fluida cambia radicalmente. Sin necesidad de ver el rostro de los demás, supe que ambas pusimos la misma expresión mixta de confusión e indignación.
"Uishh" digo. "Me pase de gamín?" Pregunta, obviamente está achantado, y entonces empieza a reír nerviosamente. Y nosotras también.
"Recuerda que estas con nosotras, no con tus pareceros, parcerito" remata mi mamá

All Colombian refences in Encanto
Soooo gonna finally do that all reference stuff in Encanto! This will have spoilers dears! Will be a big ramble, so get comfy! :D
I will divide this reference compilation in this items:
-Places -Vocabulary -Food -Clothes -Music -Extras (no to think they are few, also some of them actually help understand the movie better!)
Gonna add some pictures sometimes to explain better! Enjoy :D (Gonna continue in reblogs cause I need lots of pictures xD)
- Places
Before I start adding pictures like crazy, I must say they did some awesome job researching!
Tumblr media
We gonna start with Casita cause it's awesome!
First: They based it in a Colonial house's from Colombia, which has been there for a while before and after our independence! This houses mix spain architecture with other culture's ones (considering the materials disponible) making this kind of structures! Can confirm, they have a lot of plants inside in pots as we could see in the movie.
The flowers outside however, are reference to the balconies of Cartagena, which are precisely covered in those flowers (as some folks in Tumblr pointed out).
My mom pointed the house has the floors as Villa Deleiva's houses; and we can see Palmas de Cera (the big trees in the first and the background) which is the representative tree of Colombia.
Here a Colonial house for reference:
Tumblr media
Also, for some reason we have lots of houses painted in yellow? Specially in Cartagena, in the ciudad amurallada, where the colonial architecture is preserved and where I can tell they took a lot of reference!
Tumblr media
You can spot the similarities with the catedral over here!
Tumblr media
Which remembers me, the town is also spots on, with the plaza surrounded by houses and a big catedral in the front, cause that was the way it was structured in Colonial times (which can be seen in places as Cartagena and the center of Bogotá)
They also made a reference to the Andes mountains chain, which can be seen during all the movie! (Quite literally a big part of Colombia is full of mountains, so it's pretty usual to see this kind of environments!)
Tumblr media
I can't help but think they made a reference in this scene in Bruno's room?
Tumblr media
Cause to go to this place in Bogotá, which is called Monserrate you quite literally have to climb the stairs to go up the mountain for a lot of time. I have go there three times, takes at least an hour to reach it wjbdqab
Tumblr media
To end with the places item, here is the place where Mirabel and Abuela talked at the end; this is a real place called Caño Cristales!
Tumblr media
- Vocabulary
This one will be short cause I can't remember most of them in the movie, but I can give you some!
-De una (in the begging of "Madrigal's family"), means "let's go!" or "let's do it!" -Vacano (to Mirabel to the Tucan in Bruno's room), equivalent to "Chévere" means "cool!" -Miércoles (Agustín to his daughter Mirabel, when Dolores hear them talking about Bruno's vision) this one made all of the theater laugh, cause it's something like a swear but softened? Like Hell- Heck, and basically is that but with the word "Shit" kwdbwkd -Parcerito (Mirabel to Antonio in their room, when he was nervous and under the bed) this one is something said in Medellín, which means "Friend/pal"
- Food
Gonna need some pictures again for this one kwdbwjd
Tumblr media
That basket is literally full of references:
-Sweet potatoes (called Yucas over here) appear in down in the right, near Mirabel's hand
-Achiras (are some kind of round flour thing? They are not sweet but actually salty) down in the left near the other Mirabel's hand
-Panela (these one is the one I mentioned before that is made from the sugar cane, which allows to make a hot drink called aguapanela, literal water with panela xD or to sugar juices) it's up, infront of Mirabel's neck
Not food, but there is Cocas (the wooden things in the front of the basket, are thing you can play with. Basically you must try to make the top part fit in the stick. It's UMH hard to explain to me rn xd); drums; and pinwheels with the color of our flag!
Arepas cause they couldn't be let outside! This food is pretty old, people said it was done by natives in pre-colombina cultures, which is why we share this dish with Venezuela. It's made with corn flour, and sometimes we add cheese inside!
Tumblr media
What is on the table in this scene is an Andinan tipical dish called Ajiaco! It has corn, chicken, potatoes, guascas and you can add milk cream and/or capers

— "Parcerito"
— And who is "parcerito"?
— This is when one person loves the other, but is silent, although both know everything perfectly well. The romance of the communes, you see.
