We at *BP family in the pass post a story of Mrs Henrietta Lacks story and how she and her family for generation were robbed by the scientific community for decades. The most important information to take away is that a single BLACK WOMAN DNA has contributed to modern medical breakthroughs and cures, and is still ongoing. There are a myriad of scientific developments due to Mrs Lacks -HELA CELLS as them called it. We are please to see that the family is getting restitution and reparations from yet again being robbed by them and covering up as them taken the credit and leaving the Black community/family in the dark and high and dry. We will reblog the original post.
ONCE AGAIN A BLACK WOMEN IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION

Family of Henrietta Lacks settles lawsuit with biotech giant, lawyer says
Tumblr media
The family of Henrietta Lacks, a Black woman whose cancer cells were used without permission to form the basis of decades of scientific research, has reached a settlement with the biotech company Thermo Fisher Scientific.
The cells, known as HeLa cells, were taken from Lacks without her knowledge or consent in 1951 when she was seeking cervical cancer treatment at Johns Hopkins, in Baltimore. Doctors discovered that the cells doubled every 20 to 24 hours in the lab instead of dying. They were the first human cells that scientists successfully cloned, and they have been reproduced infinitely ever since.
Lacks herself died in 1951, but her cells continued to be used after her death in research that led to a series of medical advancements, including in the development of the polio vaccine and in treatments for cancer, HIV/AIDS, leukemia and Parkinson's disease. Lacks' family only found out about it decades later.
Lacks' story reached millions of Americans through the nonfiction bestseller "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," which was made into an HBO movie starring Oprah Winfrey as Lacks' daughter, Deborah.
In 2021, Lacks' estate filed a lawsuit against Thermo Fisher Scientific, alleging that the company was mass producing and selling tissue taken from Lacks even after it became well-known that the materials had been taken from her without her consent. The suit was filed exactly 70 years after Lacks' death.
"Thermo Fisher Scientific has known that HeLa cells were stolen from Ms. Lacks and chose to use her body for profit anyway," the lawsuit alleged. It has been previously reported that Thermo Fisher Scientific said they generate about $35 billion in annual revenue. In the lawsuit, Lacks' estate asked that the company "disgorge the full amount of its net profits obtained by commercializing the HeLa cell line to the Estate of Henrietta Lacks."
The suit also sought an order stopping the company from using the HeLa cells without the estate's permission. The terms of Tuesday's settlement were not made public, but Crump said in a news conference that both parties were "pleased" to have resolved the matter outside of court, CBS Baltimore reported. (except taken from KERRY BREEN CBS NEWS , 2023 )

SOME CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE HELA CELLS
-HeLa cells were first used to study the growth and spread of poliomyelitis virus, the cure of Polio
-HeLa cells have also been instrumental in the development of Human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccines.
-Over the years, HeLa cells have been infected with various types of viruses including HIV, Zika, herpes, and mumps
-HeLa cells have been used in a number of cancer studies, including those involving sex steroid hormones such as estradiol, estrogen, and estrogen proliferation.
-Hela cells contribute to scientists Joe Hin Tjio and Albert Levan to develop better techniques for staining and counting chromosomes. This was important for the study of developmental disorders such as down syndrome that involved the number of chromosomes.
-HeLa cells were sent on the first satellite and human space missions to determine the long term effects of space travel on living cells and tissue.
-HeLa cell line was derived for use in cancer research. and human papillomavirus 18 (HPV18) to human cervical cells created the HeLa genome, which is different from Henrietta Lacks’ genome in various ways,
-The complete genome of the HeLa cells was sequenced and published on 11 March 2013[46][47] without the Lacks family’s knowledge
-HeLa cells as a tool to uncover the machinery required and process used for invasion of human cells. Researchers have also investigated the stability of the virus’s genomic material in HeLa cells by comparing its genomic material with that of many other viruses. The use of HeLa cells in COVID-19 research has provided insights on the molecular mechanics of SARS-CoV-2019 and the components required for infection.

A LASTING CONTRIBUTION TO THE WORLD
When Henrietta Lacks and her cells alerted the world to the existence of immortal human cells, opportunities arose for research and medical treatment development.
Today, her cells continue to serve academic and industrial institutions. So much so that she has been described as the Mother of Modern Medicine in a painting by artist Kadir Nelson in 2017.
The use of HeLa cells in COVID-19 research is a testament to Henrietta Lacks’s lasting contribution to provide microscopic tools for scientific discoveries that billions have benefitted from thus far and will benefit from in the future to come.

progress for colors n jazz :) he still doesnt have a name but he's got a tum
I think of his dark blue/black skeleton as highly malleable compared to his color bones which is more hard and chitinous. mostly bc i couldnt segment his tum tum in a pleasing way. So his dark is between all his joints and stuff.
he's also less scary since he doesnt just eat indiscriminately after becoming who he is. yeah, he ate his whole au, blocked out that part of him so he doesnt remember, and he's doing better :)
he considers himself kind of a cleaner of the multiverse. he sniffs out glitches and errors to extract and eat. he CAN try to extract code from an individual to just eat whats the problem, but its painful for them and difficult for him. he has no problem consuming an entire au if he considers it too tainted.
his 'strings' are more goopy and bloody, kinda like veins. you dont want to get wrapped up in them. if he wraps something up in his lines then he just kinda
pulls
and then they poof, each of their different parts that he sliced through, poofing into cartoonish bone in meat pieces. that he eats.
he can do this with living and unliving things.
:) he's helping
edit: also i considered leaving him with a white outfit because i think it would be cool but i couldnt really come up with anything and i wanted to keep his color palette nice and squished. lemme know if ya'll ahve any suggestions [tho im pretty pleased with his current. its just a bit toOoOoo close to lucidia error]
Tumblr media
actual cannibal shia lebuf - concepting
wanted to make a new skele to ship with kelek, then thought it would be fun to make a horror error idk what colors he'll use, may just end up using error colors. he wears a cardigan and lets the tiddies out playing around with more exoskeleton/chitin-like physology [inspired by smokbeast] the back of his skull is caved in [he didnt see it coming] the fracture didn't just fracture bone he's a big boy for a few reasons

"Harry did do a hospital visit and I got a little bit of Diana vibes from the few photos I saw (I think they were on Cat’s blog?)."
When i saw the photos from the hospital, i felt something was off on top of the obvious Diana cosplay.
Then i had a eureka moment. The beds were too neat and tidy, all the 'patients' looked healthy and posed plus they were all in scrubs. One of them didn't bother taking off his shades. No medical paraphenalia eg medical id bracelets, insect nets, IVs, blankets, charts, medical personnel to usher him around and or introduce the patients, no patients' personal effects on the drawers or elsewhere, medical supplies on the drawers, not even a glass of water.
One of the patients said on camera, but audio cut from video posted to sussex.com that he'd received his prosthetic leg a year ago and it was working fine without any issues.
I might be too deep in conspiracy territory when it comes to the Sussexes, but when it was announced that they were to visit a military hospital to see some military patients, i assumed they'd meet them in common room as they do UK patients.
I didn't think they'd stage them to cosplay Diana and also invoke *saviour barbie imagery and badly in a way that shows a complete lack of attention to detail.
*saviour barbie = an instagram account inspired by Steve Mnuchin's book about her visit to Africa which was published at a moment in time where too many celebs were heading to Africa to ge photographed with poor black children in rural areas. It's pretty funny because it's all about the photos and not at all about the mission. Markle in Rwanda is the perfect example of saviour barbie trope.

The Green Devil of the Ozarks: The little green fairy of... moonshine?
It was 2005. I was with my grandfather in an old shop similar to "dick's 5 and 10" outside of Branson, Missouri. This is where The Green Devil caught my eye.
My grandfather frequented little old fashioned stores like this. He loved collecting all kinds of gadgets. Old movie posters, salt water taffy, and soda parlor paraphenalia. It was heaven on earth to him in this little corner of the world that was stuck in an older Ozark time. His house wasn't too dissimilar to a crackerbarrel gift shop. All kinds of wooden toys and dolls. He loved his little knickknacks. But on that day he found it. A copy of an old French absynthe poster with "the little green fairy" smirking at the viewer. He had to have it. It was being sold for $8! frame included! If only the seller knew the true value of it. Or how it's mere existence was breaking so many copyright laws.
Tumblr media
Maurin Quina, as it's named, is a French apéritif advertisement painted by Leonetto Cappiello in 1906. The drink was made illegal soon after its creation. But this poster is now being reused today. It was not well known in the US at all back then. Not even in the 2000's. but my grandfather being a moonshiner, absynthe fan, and art history drop out, knew all about it.
My grandfather was not as religious as the rest of my family. But he sure prayed to God when he was trying to avoid the law. He was selling homemade moonshine without any sort of license or proper knowledge of sanitary practices. It was an arte form he learned from his father that I never had the pleasure of learning.
He decided to hang this new poster up in his storm cellar where he kept his aging bottles of various liquors. Over time it developed A life of its own. My grandfather would kiss his hand and place it on the poster of the little green fairy after every jar was sealed or sales were made. I Don't think he saw this as devil worship so much as just a simple good luck ritual. Not too disimilar to his high school basketball team kissing the image of their mascot before a game. He always practiced these superstitions even though he didn't seem to really believe in them.
Fast forward to today. I'm an Ozark trad witch. So of course I now work with this image as if it is the devil himself. He is a devil that rules spring and summer. Drunkenness, poison, lunacy, fairies, and nature. He is associated with law breaking, alcohol, healing, harming, and fertility. With Easter coming up He is on my mind heavily. A time I feed him red dyed eggs symbolizing the blood of christ and the blood of good Christians. I feed him this with intentions of causing those which share the eucharist to lust. Poisoning the church so to speak. I attend mass in spirit form and dip my blessed turkey wish bone down in the communion wine. The turkey is symbolic of love in the Ozarks. And the wishbone is horned like the stang, and my devil. Midnight mass on Easter is filled with drunkenness and sex. Those consuming this spiritually poisoned wine are consumed with lust for others in the church. An orgy ensues in the great house of God. Only for all members to awaken Easter morning with no memory of the incestuous rituals performed with their brothers and sisters in christ. To do such things in the house of God and not confess them (due to not remembering) is damanble. This is my goal as a witch. To bring the witches Sabbath to the church and to pervert the souls of good men.
By turkey wand and lustful stang I complete my work in the devils name.
A call to the Green Devil:
"Envy is his name. Drunkeness and poisoning are his arte. He is Lord of the little people and plants alike; come little green fairy and bring your lust and your lunacy. Green devil rise from the roots below like a serpent. Green devil come down from the tree tops like a booger in the night who takes its flight. Join me in this witching hour oh beast of the green and hear my call to the wild. By my witches flame may it be so."
Look out for a post on the black and red devils later this year. Our horned one changes with the seasons

The Truth About Juneteenth | Black History Explainer by (Unique Coloring)

The Real Story of Juneteenth Must be Told, Historians and Educators Say  by Hazel Trice Edney  (Excerpts posted taken-please read in it's entity) click the above title
When President Joe Biden signed into law the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act last year, making Juneteenth a federal holiday, he and Vice President Kamala Harris envisioned it as a holiday mostly for the celebration of freedom.
But, a year later, based on interviews with historians and educators around the nation, this year’s Juneteenth public holiday, Monday, June 20, 2022, will likely turn out to be mostly a day to turn up the struggle for freedom, justice and equality that have yet to be attained.
Dr. Frank Smith, president/CEO of the Washington, D.C.-based African American Civil War Museum and Memorial which will spend Juneteenth correcting a wrong. “We will be lifting up the names of those 200,000 Black troops” who helped defeat the Confederate Army in the Civil War,” Smith said, a story that is so often untold.
African-Americans and several states had celebrated Juneteenth for decades as the day they’d been freed. However, given the nearly 4,000 lynchings of Black people across the U. S since the end of slavery; given the August 28,1955 killing of Emmett Till; the massacre of nine Black people by Dylann Roof at a Bible study in 2016, the horrific public murder of George Floyd by police only two years ago, and the shocking murders of 10 people in a racist rampage at a grocery store in Buffalo, N.Y. on May 14 this year, many think they’d best spend Juneteenth continuing to work for freedom instead of just celebrating it.
America must be careful to focus on the real story, Smith said. Many of those “seasoned veteran” Black soldiers had helped to chase away defeated General Robert E. Lee after he surrendered in Richmond, Va., the former Confederate capital, Smith stressed. Actually, those solders were sent to Galveston in order to keep them from participating in the Grand Review Parade down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., celebrating the defeat of the Confederacy.
“They actually sent them out of town, so they’d have an excuse to not let America see that it took two hundred thousand African-American soldiers in the Union Army to help the Army win this war…If we don’t tell that story, nobody else is going to tell it,” Smith said.
“So we will continue to participate in Juneteenth celebrations and appreciate the holiday. But we know that our work is three-sixty-five, twenty-four seven…It just doesn’t end for us. And I don’t know that that has really come across in some of the major media conversations about Juneteenth. For a lot of people who may cover the White House, it’s just another holiday with symbolism. But for us, it’s about celebrating the progress we’ve made and the work that still needs to be done.”  (note- all above are excerpts taken from Hazel T Edney for the entire article click on the above title)

you dont need a credit card to visit the united states. i would, however, if you are visiting boston, skip mikes pastries and go to bova's bakery instead. the line will be shorter and their pastries are better (including cannoli. mikes arent good anymore). its very close to north station and the original regina pizzeria location. and it's not a commercialized shitshow like mike's.
This is the most specific advise I've ever received in my entire life. Thank you. I'm not visiting Boston, unfortunately. But I will treasure this tid bit for the rest of my life.
To that end. I wanted to share some back. If you're ever in Melbourne, there is a tiny little Anime store called Critical Hit. Its down Little Collin's Street, between Collin's and Bourke. It has some of the coolest shit. They sell physical copies of weird niche games that usually only get one print run. And they sell imports of game soundtracks. Plus a shitload of paraphenalia.
Minotaur is cool but every nerd knows about it. Critical Hit is the shit.
Fr. Let me know where i should check out. I wont say where I'm going but if i happen to be there I'll try and check it out.

Can I ask some random headcanons for our blorbo(lucille, obviously) for no reason?
Does she keep a diary? What's inside it? How many hours does she usually sleep a day? In modern AU, what's her favorite movie or theatrical piece? What are some significant objects in her room, other than what we already saw in the movie(like butterflies, books, wood carved animals)?
Sure!
I don't think she keeps a diary, but I can see her writing out her whole sad, sordid life story over and over, tearing it up each time, and scattering the pieces to the winds. A la the movie Byzantium. Because she can't tell anyone. She can't even tell Thomas everything; that wouldn't be Shielding Him from the worst of her pain and darkness (how well does she actually do that otherwise? shhhh). So she gives her story to the howling winter tempest instead.
On a good day, eight. On a bad day- and they are not infrequent -two if she's lucky. I don't think she slept at all the night Edith and Thomas were at the depot.
Modern-day favorite movie...not sure I've seen enough movies to say! I definitely don't think she's a horror fan, though the more lyrical side of the Gothic might appeal. She's seen enough horror in the real world, thank you very much. Something beautiful and sad- weirdly, I can see her enjoying Titanic or something similar. Thomas (and Edith, in OT3) is totally baffled by this. Meanwhile Lucille just doesn't understand why such a bittersweet tragedy about True Love has the reputation it does.
Significant objects in her room? You covered a lot of the bases, I think! I can see her having a very fantastical jewelry-box made by Thomas, though. Are there like four items in it? Maybe. But that's not the point. She deserves things like this, in his mind- beautiful, exceptional things to make her happy after so much darkness.
(the novelization version of her room, with definitely-not-in-the-movie preserved animal fetuses, and witchcraft paraphenalia from all over the world- the actress said she doesn't believe in ghosts; why would she have any interest in that? -can fuck off)

What if Master Dooku didn't repudiate Komari Vosa because she was crazy and had anger issues, but because she was stalking him SO HARD she almost stumbled upon his Super Secret Sith lessons by accident?
I'm just imagining this ludicrously besotted teenager (think Carrie Fisher's character from 'The Blues Brothers') wondering why her revered Master keeps slipping away from the Temple. She comes to the conclusion that he's having an affair with someone who ISN'T her. and is all but ready to confront Sheev Palpatine out of sheer jealousy before Dooku finds her hiding in a Senate supply closet. He gets her kicked out of the Order, not because she's crazy or obsessed with him (he'd already dealt with Rael's shenanigans and Qui-Gon's pets, this man could deal with an infatuated teenager), but because she's about to try assassinating a Sith Lord who might be sleeping with her crush.
Even better: Komari Vosa actually succeeds in killing Palpatine because he in no way saw that coming. She's jailed for a quick minute for murdering the Senator from Naboo, right up until they find all the Sith paraphenalia and suspicious bank statements, and she gets Knighted for taking out a Sith Lord. She immediately propositions Dooku because he no longer holds any parental responsibility for her and etc.. He says no. He also gets recruited to be Darth Plagueis' new apprentice, since the old guy was still kicking around at this time.
Fast forward ten years, and Knight Vosa continues to hack the assignment system at the Jedi Temple so that she ends up on the same planet as Master Dooku suspiciously often. So often, in fact, that she learns of his dalliances with an ancient Muun banker and decides to deal with this rival the way she did the last. Oops, he was another Sith! Oh well, goodbye Line of Bane.
At this point, Yan Dooku gives up and decides It Might As Well Happen, and he and Komari leave the order together to shack up on Serenno, where they spend the rest of their lives studying force artifacts regardless of their provenance and poking at Sith magics better left unstudied.
