Okay I did really want to make a whole essay about the door but I don't think I'll actually do that (if I do feel like it, I still will!) but I do really wanna talk about the door in the song 'Legally Blonde'.
In an old genre of the Augustean period (elegy, which are basically specific love poems) there was a reoccurring motif called 'paraklausithyron'. Paraklausithyron is basically (typically) a man outside a house (or anything with a door) begging for the love of (typically) a woman inside the house. The door is an important aspect of it, because a door can open and close while a wall, for example, can't.
You can actually see this motif in a lot of different modern media as well (whether it's on purpose or not). In the Legally Blonde song it's very clear as Emmett is quite literally begging and confessing his love to Elle with a door in between:
What about love? I never mentioned love The timing's bad, I know But perhaps if I'd made it more clear That you belong right here You wouldn't have to go 'Cause you'd know that I'm so much in love
And most importantly for my point, a little after this: Please will you open the door
What's interesting in that motif as well, is that the typical gender roles are almost switched (the woman is the domina ('mistress' as in boss) and she decides whether the begging goes unanswered or not (remember this motif was a thing in around 0 BCE)). Legally Blonde's whole thing is Elle defying her stereotypes, so she is a domina.
Also some more moments in musical theater where I've seen this motif: Frozen (in 'Do You Want to Build a Snowman?', sisterly love this time, which fits in the theme of Frozen) and Heathers (in 'Meant to Be Yours', the whole part of Veronica! Open the door please, Veronica will you open the door, which is an entire different kind of love again). Also probably more but I can't think of any at the top of my head.
This 🤏🏻 close to writing an essay about Legally Blonde the musical ngl

wip wednesday
i haven't actually written any of this au in months and months but i haven't been writing anything but original fiction anyway, and i wanted to do wip wednesday again, so have a very long bit of the sun always shines on tv (the mister magic radio drama character crossover au) that i just rediscovered today
The room is still pitch dark when Richard opens his eyes. He can’t make himself move; instead he just listens to the energy, the static, the thing in the TV. Because of course that’s where it is. Even groggy and scared, he knows it’s the TV. He isn’t even surprised when a new sound joins the CRT hum: the raspy slough of fabric, slow at first and then slickly faster as that itchy blanket falls from the TV screen. Richard’s never remembered the last day on-set as vividly as he does now, if only for the sheer knowing that floods him all over again: the empty stomach that ate Mister Magic, that ate Michael, is going to eat him, too.
He should have texted Jason back. He should have told Antigone he was glad to see her. He should have hugged Sammy. He shouldn’t have set that building on fire. He shouldn’t have banged the admissions lady at CCCC. He should have trashed Lucy’s laptop himself. He should have— A cold hand settles on his face. Richard whimpers, his eyes scrunching shut. He hopes it doesn’t hurt too much. He should have written a note. The fingers are smooth and dry. They trace the roundness of Richard’s cheekbone, the thumb trailing behind. Even in the near-silence, all Richard can hear is the TV hum and the scrape of his jeans against the sheets. “Are you afraid yet?” Michael whispers, so close that, if Richard opened his eyes, if it were light enough, he would look straight up into Michael’s face. It’s a genuine question, not smug or cruel. Another small, strangled noise finds its way out of Richard’s throat. He can’t speak, or even try to look. “Stay afraid,” Michael goes on, so softly. It sounds like his voice, the way he should have sounded, if he’d lived as long as the rest of them. It shouldn’t be familiar but it is, it sounds like Richard’s known it his whole life. “Fear is a creature. Fear has wide-open eyes. And it’s alive.” Wide-open eyes. Richard shudders out a breath but he just can’t look into the darkness. If this isn’t fear, he doesn’t know what is. “I haven’t been afraid in a thousand years,” Michael adds, and then laughs, a laugh like velvet toffee. “A thousand, thousand years. But maybe one day, Richard. Maybe one day. It wants you to find me before I open my eyes. Don’t. Wait. I’ll find you.” Richard realizes that he’s crying, that the thumb resting on his cheekbone is now smearing away tears. “Good night,” Michael whispers.

Talking about Paraklausithyrons, Jaskier would probably be such a big fan of Ovid it's not even funny. You can't convince me he hasn't written his fair share of augustan love elegies, all of the themes are like his thing, longing for a partner who keeps you out, servitium amoris, the drama of it all? Not to mention the horniness lmao
No, please always mention the horniness as well <3

also i think it's super fun when people customize their agent's codewords. Lyde's first is still onomotaphobia for now but the second one the hallucination of Watcher X gives her is "paraklausithyron"
I totally agree, the customization of agents is what keeps me a big fan of the story overall and that word is driving me insane rn, like you chose such a symbolic keyword with double-meanings (and its got the right length and romantic definition, double points) 👀👀👀
Sadly I wasn't creative enough with Eight's because I liked iconoclasm and how much it fit for him later on... admin is ashamed

"The details of the Greek etymology are uncertain, but it is generally accepted to mean "lament beside a door", from παρακλαίω, "lament beside", and θύρα, "door".[1] A paraklausithyron typically places a lover outside his mistress's door, desiring entry. In Greek poetry, the situation is connected to the komos, the revels of young people outdoors following intoxication at a symposium. Callimachus uses the situation to reflect on self-control, passion, and free will when the obstacle of the door is removed..."
Severus Snape threatened to sleep at Griffindor's dorms' door to gain Lily Evans' forgiveness for having offended her as "filthy mudblood": I wonder whether JKR knew of this particular motif or just kind of "eavesdropped" it, as it happens with literary tropes one uses without being excessively conscious of their origin.
It is one of the romantic tropes connected to the "service of love", especially as it was later developed in troubadoric tradition, and enforces perhaps the idea Severus Snape, a proud and lofty Slytherin, reveled nonetheless in self-prosternation for the woman he loved (not in a healthy way, but yet he did love her).
Also, I am rather convinced Lily kind of requited him or had strong feelings towards him, to the point she did not forgive and could not compromise with his affiliation. If Severus had left the Death eaters, he would have likely been father to Harry Potter.

Found the article (see here)! It wasn't a poem it was an analysis of a published love letter from Pliny the Younger to his wife:
Ep. 7.5To Calpurnia. You would scarcely credit how much I miss you and long to see you again. My love for you is the primary cause of this longing, and the fact that we have not been used to be away from each other is the second. Hence it is that I spend a great part of my nights awake and thinking of you, and regularly at the hours when I used to visit you I find my feet carrying me – in the literal sense of the term towards your room, and then, sick and sad at heart, and feeling as though I had been refused admittance, I turn to quit the empty threshold. At one time only am I free from these tormenting pangs, and that is when I am in court and busy pleading for my friends. Imagine, I pray you, how wretched is my life, when I find my rest in hard work, and my solace in being harassed and anxious.   Farewell.
The anonymous author points out that Pliny is sort of imitating the convention of the paraklausithyron which was a pretty recurring ancient greek motif where a lover is locked outside of the door of his beloved and is lamenting that he can't get inside. The author correctly states that in this case it is probably being used in a tongue in cheek way because
Pliny is overcome by love until he actually needs to do his work.
Pliny "approaches the door of this house not as a lover begging admittance, but as a master. He owns the door."
Calpurnia has no right of refusal.

Did you get the word yet? Is it paraklausithyron?
Where's that post about the cat yowling to be let into a room where someone below captions it with a word and defines it as a love song sung at the lover's door asking to be permitted entry? Because I want that word.
