It had been easy to tell who was the "good guy" and the "bad guy" in the situation. Neither of them had looked human, but from the way one was defending the people and the other was, well, attacking them, Para-Dan was able to figure out who to assist in the fight. He had gotten pretty good at looking past appearances.

Also, the banter. The guy giving the witty heroic banter was usually the good guy.

But numbers always helped in the long run, and with Para-Dan's speed and pyrokenesis he was able to help put a stop to the evil alien. He let the other creature finish him off, finally lowering to the ground. His brows and bat-like snout furrowed in distaste as the evil-doer was finally defeated, feeling that familiar satisfaction. His eyes stopped glowing white, dimming to a slightly more muted fire. He needed to take note of any civilians that had been hurt, and try to get them to a hospital, so he had to be careful not to look too intimidating.

"You ok?"

And help out whoever this other guy was.

Dex was exhausted. And annoyed. And frustrated. If he had to sit in one more Zoom call or even stare at his laptop screen he may commit a crime. Each step down the stairs was more of a trudge, dragging his feet until he could finally collapse on the couch. "Boomers are so stupid.” He complained, sinking into the cushions. Dex wasn’t sure where Ben was in the house, but he knew he'd hear him, “What if I just started a farm? I don’t need music. I'll sell vegetables at the farmer's market or something.”

sometimes things arent the exact way i want them to be in my paracosm and i never know how to fix it. its so stupid. theres four different 'realms' but i tied them too much to the four elements and now my brain is upset because theyre one thing when i want them all to be their own independent fantasy worlds filled with lots of different things. and it should be simple to fix it. but it is not. because my brain is a horrid place to be. and something about bens characterization is bothering me but i dont know what it is. something something he needs to be more willing to bend the rules? its difficult because i want him to think in a very black-and-white way but he'd also see the world in shades of gray and i dont know how to put both of those ideas into one person

Sora had searched for days trying to find Ben. He had tried the smoothie place he had first taken him to. He tried the sites of the last few battles they'd done together. He tried to police station, the outskirts, and left a note at the manor, on the off chance he had returned there.

"Please, I'm looking for "Ben 10"."

"You and everyone else."

"I'm a friend of his, I need to talk to him!"

"Sure you do buddy."

"Please, tell him I have something for him! My name is Para-Dan, he'll know who I am!"

"Whatever."

But he didn't seem to be having any luck. Whereever Ben was, he didn't want to be found.

Sora flopped down on the couch at the end of the fourth day, well after sundown. He groaned loudly in frustration. "Why is it so hard to find a superhero when you need him?" He complained to no one in particular.

Ben lives in the city of Helcin, a city with a dystopian government built ontop of the remains of New York City, after an alien invasion nearly wiped out all of humanity. On the outskirts of Helcin lies the Wastelands, an irradiated area populated by stragglers (aliens that survived Earth's retaliation.)

The world was abandoned by its heroes years before the invasion, and suffered the invasion greatly without them. Forty years later, after Helcin rebuilt itself, Ben's father, a locally beloved engineer was assassinated by Helcin's government. in a world without justice, Ben must make his own.

Ben became the vigilante Magpie, a snarky, precocious teenager with a chip on his shoulder and a stark distaste for authority. He is beloved by the impoverished civilians of Helcin and hated by Helcin's very own police force. He despises law enforcement and has no patience for what the press thinks of him, but Penelope 'Pepper' Holiday, the daughter of Mayor Charleston Holiday and esteemed journalist Carol Holiday, is not so willing to give up on him.

Apparently the universe wanted to just continue shitting on his life, because of course, of course, Ben had to be home. Not even in the bedroom or the studio. Sitting right in the middle of the couch, watching tv. He shouldn’t have shut the door behind him so forcefully. Dropped his sword to the ground with such a large thud. Ripped off his jacket and things in a huff. But, Dex was so angry he could barely speak. It was shredding his insides and burning his throat. He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs.

There was no way for him to silently beeline to the bathroom, hide the bloodied tissue he’d hopelessly been holding up to his cheek as he made his way back home. But, he’d try anyways. He was certain there was steam coming out of his ears, and did his best to not stomp through the apartment, trying to be calm as he passed by his boyfriend without a second glance and not trip over his own two feet.
