The Winter Badminton craze of Bangladesh
Tumblr media
I was coming home from school on October 30th, 2023, and saw some young boys in our neighborhood with their rackets and corks. And, it struck me how much Badminton is imbued with our culture. Roads, backyards, even the alleyway behind your grandma's home - they all morph into makeshift courts. From young kids' failed attempts to your uncle's surprisingly fast backhands, badminton fever grips the entire country.
Bangladeshis' love for low-equipment/no-equipment sports dates back centuries. The only two requirements are rackets and a shuttle/cork (shuttlecock), and an occasional rock or stick to draw the boundary on the concrete. Thus, it is easily accessible even in the rural areas of our country.
So, under moonlight or sodium-lit bulbs, in every para, moholla, mofussil, you'll see a restless badminton game.
The winter season in Bangladesh also ensures 'Dokhina Hawa' (wind coming from the north) for the shuttlecock's easy locomotion. As the summer season chills out, replaced by cool, dry air that begs for some physical fun, badminton is the last resort.
Winter also coincides with the school holidays, creating the perfect opportunity for young players to pass their time. The courts become a melting pot of talent, from seasoned players showcasing their finesse to beginners discovering the joy of the game.
The sidewalk of main roads or rooftops - local tournaments pop up everywhere, drawing in cheering crowds who support their neighbors as if they are national badminton heroes. It's a celebration of community.
Challenges also exist predominantly. Open spaces are shrinking in Bangladesh because of overpopulation and an increase in infrastructure. Well, add that one to our never-ending list of environmental decay. We'll find ways to keep the badminton spirit alive, whether it's on equipment-heavy turfs of Dhaka or by using bamboo poles and fishing nets in a village field.

Paralympic Stars Highlight Strong Competition Level As Paris 2024 Qualification Deadline Looms
Tumblr media
Fazza Dubai Para Badminton International: 2023 has been a roller-coaster year for India’s Para shuttler Krishna Nagar. From the lows of injury and early exits in tournaments to gold medal shows in BWF Level-1 events and the silver in the Asian Para Games, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion admitted that the year was about testing oneself in rough times and overcoming it with hard work and determination."After a few rough months with injury and almost no training, I regained my rhythm in Thailand in May 2023. The second half of the year was much better with more focus, training, and determination. I am looking to finish the year on a high in Dubai,” said Nagar after winning his men’s singles SH6 Group B game against Indonesia’s Subhan Subhan at the ongoing 5th Fazza Dubai Para Badminton International 2023. “The silver in Asian Para Games was a big confidence booster,” added the 24-year-old who also won gold medals in Canada and England this year. The Jaipur-based shuttler also highlighted that the competition in SH6 category has been very strong with the top 10 world ranked players unleashing variety and variations in their game. “One must give his best in every game – you cannot take any game easy. The level of the competition is very high in every championship,” he added. Nagar also singled out Hong Kong’s top seed Chu Man Kai as the toughest player in the men’s singles SH 6 event. “He has been one player who is difficult to beat. He (Man Kai) relies on his rallies, so one must be very patient.” The Indian shuttler is hoping to defend his title in Paris. “I hope to play good competition, play long rallies, and try not to make mistakes.” Much like Nagar, England’s third seed Jack Shephard wants to ride on his two gold medals at the European Championships to finish the year on a high. “It has been a good year and I have the two European Championships which is a big motivation to work even harder. It’s ongoing work to keep improving. I am aiming for two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympics,” said Shephard who overcame China's Lin Naili 21-19, 14-21, 21-15 in men’s singles SH6 Round 2 Group C game. The round robin matches in the 5th Fazza Dubai Para Badminton International 2023 continues on Wednesday with the knock-out matches beginning on Thursday. Read the full article

02.11.2023
I did nothing special today aside from waking up and breathe. I finished my works and interact with solo living people.
I talked to Kianna din today since galing kaming ghosting phase. She is also busy sa pag re-review para sa exam nila.
I talked to Rals a lot mostly about work, memes and monopoly go!
I followed Tada on IG and replied to Cam's message from yesterday.
I like and enjoy talking to them but my social battery doesn't.... but still I tried my best to reply.
I joined a fb group for badminton players here in Cavite... I am thinking about joining a fun tournament on 9th of December.... Still thinking kasi marami pa ako what if sa utak ko.
I wrote yesterday too pero handwritten and I realized napaka pangit talaga ng sulat ko.
After 8 years, first time ko ulit mag celebrate without her.
IDK how to celebrate. I haven't filed a leave yet kasi di ko pa alam plano ko pero alam kong hindi ako uuwi ng manila.
I'll celebrate it alone siguro nalang.
I am just waiting for my shift to finish and my dice in monopoly go! to replenish.
Maybe.. I'll watch a series for me to be distracted.
WHAT BOTHERS ME TODAY:
I thought about flying to India last year to meet that guy and mainly to witness the culture and tradition but now she's the one who's planning to fly going to the place of that girl because she wants to see her in person. She'll do it, I know. That's how she love.
how Ironic.
FUCK.
Goodnight, 2nd of November.

Selamat hari raya badminto 🏸
