Welcome!
Hello! We are an adaptive system of around 40 headmates! All of us share this blog together. You may know us from our old (obsolete) blogs, @dhundertale and @droughtale. This is our rebranded blog, with our rebooted series.
This page features two Undertale AUs, both of which take place in the same universe, just with slightly different circumstances. The descriptions of these AUs are lower down, if you wish to read a brief summary.
The first two pages of Defining Happiness are here.
Both AUs contain the same ships, so be warned and turn away if you do not like them. You will be blocked if you reblog or comment just to complain about the romances/QPRs.
Any of the ships listed that have more than two people are polyamory/ethical non-monogamy, not "love triangles".
The ships are the following:
Chariskriel (Chara x Asriel x Frisk)
Flowiskra (Chara x Asriel x Frisk)
Friskid (Frisk x MK)
Tuffet (Toriel x Muffet)
Sansgoriel (Sans x Asgore x Toriel)
Sansby (Sans x Grillby)
Papyton (Papyrus x Mettaton)
Mad Alphyne (Mad Mew Mew x Alphys x Undyne)
Chara and Frisk both use they/them in this AU. Napstablook uses they/them. MK uses both they/them and he/him. Mad Mew Mew (Maddie) uses she/her. Please respect that.
Please not deadname Mettaton or Maddie.
Also, in these two AUs, Flowey and Asriel are headmates, not the same person. They have shared memories (and a shared body/soul), but they are separate boys with their own thoughts and feelings.
--------------------------------------------
Defining Happiness/DH (Summary)
A fancomic series about our protagonists Frisk & Chara and their loved ones attempting to find freedom on the surface, and facing hardships of forming a lasting family. The story is told by Frisk of the future, passing the tale onto their niblings (nieces, nephews, niephews) and little siblings.
Follow Frisk as they study and fight to become the young ambassador for Monsterkind, join forces with the previously-hidden MHHR Association (Monster, Hybrid, Human Rights Association), battle the traumas formed by their past, face teenage development and romance, and struggle to maintain a relationship with their older sister, Celest.
--------------------------------------------
Drought & Devastation/Droughtale/DD (Summary)
A fanfiction series about our protagonists Celest & Michael, attempting to journey through a decaying underground, with the soul of Celest's sister (Frisk). While Celest is the older sister in Defining Happiness, in Droughtale Celest is aged down, becoming Frisk's younger sister instead.
(TW for physical abuse & cannibalism)
When Frisk (age 13) fell into the mountain, they rushed to get through the underground, to return home to their little sister Celest (age 9) and care for her, as the two of them lived with abusive parents. Frisk managed to complete a false pacifist run (leaving Asgore dead and Toriel the queen), intending to gather Celest from their home and return underground, knowing that Toriel would care for the two of them. However, upon arriving home, they failed to sneak inside and take Celest without notice. Their father caught them and began to beat them.
They attempted to reset, but found that their magic was no longer of use. (This is because human magic can only work in the presence of monster magic.) Instead, they were left with brain damage from the beating, and spent the rest of their childhood locked in the house with Celest, tending to her the best they could in their impaired state.
Upon adulthood, the two escaped together. Celest married her husband, Markson, and the two had a child Junebug (aka Frisk Junior.) Frisk passed away not long after, telling Celest to take their soul underground to free monsterkind (while being unaware that the other six souls were fully used up and lost during the fight with Omega Flowey.)
Celest traversed underground, only to find that it was no longer the wonderland Frisk had described to her, but instead a place of ruins, riddled with a magical drought that caused all monsters to have erratic, hallucinatory, and/or violent symptoms, and be thirsty for any magic - or liquid - that they could get their hands on...including the lifeforce of each other.
Through her journey to get back home to her husband and child, she seeks to discover the history of how such a magical place has come to such devastation.

Tag Game!!!!
Thanks to @blaiddsumu for tagging me ^^
Rules: answer the questions and tag nine people you want to get to know better/catch up with.
3 Ships I enjoy: Papyton (lil bit of my OTP cause they’re real cute), Nice Pants, and Soriel! Though that last one is honestly more of a queer platonic thing. Truthfully, I’m not a super hard core shipper haha. Oh and Alphydyne, but that’s cannon so it doesn’t count.
Last Song: I actually had to scroll back on my history because I’m listening to music basically all the time lMAO. The Mind Electric by Tally Hall!! It’s real good and I’m considering a Gaster animatic :D
Last Movie: Well, the last disk I ran was my Jazzersizing CD (Sweating with the Oldies 2) which is about an hour long and on TV, so maybe that??? Actual movie wise... it’s been awhile haha. I’m normally a big movie person, but I prefer the theatre, so I’ve been out of luck this year :,) I think the last one I saw was The Fifth Element. It was really good! I highly recommend! The dude from Die Hard is in it!!
What I’m watching: Dnd horror stories. They’re my guilty pleasure :,)
Currently Craving: I really want fruit. I can’t eat anything solid for a couple of days because of stitches in my gum, but holy fuck do I just want to Cronin into an apple. My bodies solely supported by ice cream, eggs, and Jello at the moment haha
Currently reading: Nothing at the moment, as I just finished the massive hoard of hurt/comfort Toriel/Soriel fics my sister sent me! But, I’ll tell you about the one that’s still in the progress of being written cause its really good. It’s called The Lady in The Woods (by Get Dunked On (Little Known Artist))!
It’s a soft, sweet Soriel fic set in an alternate universe where monsters have always been on the surface. Kinda like Deltarune, but it takes place in an Alaska Canada hybrid state. Basically Sans takes up a job as a park ranger (his inner monologue is halarious) to make ends meet, and ends up meeting a lonely old lady in the woods. It’s a very sweet fic with gorgeous scenery. Also lumberjack Toriel. She big lady :)

Possible Health Problems of Hybrid Fanchildren
Tumblr media
No, think of the children!...your hybrid children, that is. Contains lovely ideas for angst.
Hybrid fanchildren are common in the Undertale fandom. It is likely this is because the main characters of the game cover multiple "breeds" of monster, and there are in fact canon cross-breed couples (Undyne and Alphys, RG01 and RG02). Fanchildren are also a creative exercise where one combines the looks and personalities of the parents into a new, distinct character design.
In-universe, if hybridization is even possible, it's likely common. However, hybridizing could cause problems.
Where potential mates of their own species are rare, animals might hybridize with closely related species. Furthermore, animals might make hybrids if they're compatible species kept in the same enclosure (e.g., lions and tigers in zoos). In birds when one species parasitically lays its eggs in the nests of another species, the offspring might imprint after its host parents in looks or song, and so only be interested in birds that look or sound like its host parents.
All these things likely happened when monsters were sealed underground. While it’s unclear if different monster breeds interbred before the war, given monsterkind’s massive casualties it’s likely monsters’ options within their own breed were limited. (This would surely be especially true for monster breeds that were rare to begin with.) Staying underground, especially if they all stayed in just one city for a long time, would also work like captive conditions. Furthermore, the devastation might have meant a whole lot of orphans, which might have been raised by different breeds. Such orphans might, like the parasitic birds, prefer breeds like the ones they were raised by. It’s certainly clear monsters have variable preferences and can imitate other monsters (e.g., Papyrus catching a thrown stick in his mouth)/have variable behavior, after all.
Biological Problems
For some breeds, even if hybridizing is possible it would likely cause health problems. This is especially obvious for fire monsters, such as offspring of the Sans X Grillby ("Sansby") pairing. Though skeleton monsters are apparently1 insensitive to cold, it's unclear whether they're insensitive or immune to heat too. Fan works often assume Grillby's fire is painfully hot, and becomes much hotter when angry. While (dry, human) bones can withstand greater temperatures than human flesh without (visible) damage, being on fire constantly might be a problem. Even if the hybrid children can withstand it, it's possible (and more likely) that they might hurt themselves from the higher temperatures if they ever get angry.
Pain can make people easier to anger, so being burned by their own flames might cause a self-destructive feedback loop of pain and burning. If they can't quickly heal burn markings from such events, they might become anxious about it, akin to obvious scars or burn wounds.
Environmental Unsuitability
Tumblr media
Environmental unsuitability is also a problem. While a hybrid's parents might be well-suited to distinct environments, the hybrid may be unsuited for either or require unpredictable intermediate environments.
For example, the fish monster Undyne is vulnerable to heat stroke/dehydration when travelling through the dry, hot caverns of Hotland; Alphys is not. Evidently travelling through Hotland is enough of a danger to Undyne that Alphys installed a water cooler for her halfway to her lab, even though Alphys' lab is only a few screens into Hotland. While Undyne says she dislikes "snow", she's evidently not in danger standing outside Papyrus's house indefinitely. This might not be true for Alphys: while some fish can live in cold water, reptiles either die or hibernate in cold environments like Snowdin.
A hybrid child of the two might do well in an intermediate environment (e.g., hot but humid, like south Florida) or take after one or the other unpredictably.
Some assume Undyne can breathe underwater through gills; what if the child prefers most of their body to be dry but needs to keep their gills moist? What if the child prefers dry, but not hot, environments? With such a potential blend of preferred environments, they all might need custom rooms (e.g., humidifiers, pools) in one house.
Most dangerously, what if Undyne can breathe water through her skin, but a reptile-skinned but otherwise fishlike child cannot? One work, Scramble Saga, suggests Undyne sleeps in a water-filled bathtub rather than a bed. If a helpless baby that can't breathe underwater is put in a tub-crib, the baby might drown. The child might drown, too, if Undyne is playing boldly and aggressively in the water and mistakenly assumes the child can breathe underwater.
Psychological Problems
No Horns
Tumblr media
(The picture is based on goat skulls; notice they don't have horns. Picture modified from here.)
In goats, horn buds don’t grow directly from the skull, but from a specialized patch of skin. Only later do they start to merge to the skull.
Assuming Boss Monsters’ horns grow like that of goats, a Boss Monster-skeleton hybrid might not have horns. (Many such fanchildren have no skin, after all.) While many monsters do not have horns, this might still make the fanchild self-conscious about not having horns. (Perhaps similarly to Kris of Deltarune, though Kris is a human.)
The Problems of Papyrus x Mettaton
“Us ghosts spend our whole lives looking for a proper vessel. Slowly, slowly, we grow closer to our new bodies... Until one day, we too may become corporeal beings. Beings able to laugh, love, and dance like any other...” - Mad Dummy
It is unclear whether ghosts’ desire for vessels (or “bodies”) is biologically or culturally driven. Either way, hypothetical fanchildren of Papyrus and Mettaton are likely to be dissatisfied with their bodies.
LordLaharl’s Vassal made a convincing point that Papyrus may have body dysmorphia issues. The Wikipedia article on the subject suggests part of the variation in body dysmorphia issues in the population (or “heritability”) can be explained by genetics. If this is true, and also true for monsters, a Papyrus x Mettaton child could have twice the body issues of either parent.
It’s unclear whether the child would be born/the equivalent of born a ghost fused with a skeleton body, a ghost possessing but not fused with a skeleton body, or be born separately as a ghost body and a skeleton body. If the Papyton child has a handy skeleton body from birth/the equivalent of birth, the child might not develop ghostly psychological problems, as the child could do normal non-ghost things with it.

Note
How many OCs do you have? I want to see them! and how old are them?
I have 2 OCs! (both of them are Undertale OCs. XD)
First off, there’s Impact. He’s a Papyton child, or at least my headcanon of one. I’ve not actually decided on his age YET; because he’s half robot and robots don’t age, but he’s also half skeleton and skeletons probably DO age in the UT universe, so it’s kinda confusing at the moment.
My second OC is Calibri, who is a Soriel child. He’s a half-goat monster-half-skeleton hybrid, and he’s 16.

Hey, I made another Undertale OC.
I already have a Papyton child, so why not have a Soriel child?
Anyway, his name is Calibri, he’s 16, and he’s some kind of hybrid of a goat monster and a skeleton.
I’ll probably make more art of him in the future.
