For the French white people who think the vote of the AssemblĂ©e Nationale to commemorate the massacre of October 17th 1961 shows that France changed and that itâs a step toward the right direction⊠You need to get Algerian friends to get you a reality check.
First of all the text is filled with historical inaccuracies/lies. They say that Algerians were repressed because they protested despite a legal decree imposing a curfew on Algerians only. It implies that Algerians were doing something illegal and the repression was caused by illegal activities. But guess what? There was no decree. The curfew was imposed by the police and approved by the government BUT the government didnât want to leave tracks and they couldnât pass a discriminatory decree because it would be yet another other thing justifying resistance. So officially it was just a recommendation not an obligation which means that officially Algerians were not defying the law.
Now legality has never been a way to show if something is good or moral or not. Disobeying unjust, discriminatory, racist laws is a citizenâs duty. Good people wonât use the lie about a decree to justify the murder of Algerians at the hand of France. But thatâs the thing the right to resist unfair laws never applied to us (North Africans and Black people). You saw it with Nahel Allah yarhmou the cop who killed him became a fucking millionaire because people considered that Nahelâs death was his own fault for not respecting the law.
When the government implies that Algerians protesting on October 17th 1961 were doing something illegal they imply that they had a role in their own deaths that had they not done anything illegal they would be alive.
The second problem with that decision to commemorate this massacre is that thereâs still no recognition of it. I hate Maurice Papon with all my heart. But while Papon was a piece of shit who deserved a painful death and Iâm convinced that he is burning in Hell, people act with him the way they act with Netanyahu. They put all the blame on him and pretend he is the problem without recognizing that the whole system the whole government and the people were/are accomplices. They say that itâs all Paponâs actions and wash away the blood they have on their hands but the thing is if it was Papon then the government would have punished the cops who killed Algerians but no not only they didnât punish any of the cops but thatâs also coincidentally when De Gaulle decided that there would be a complete pardon for all the French people (settlers, cops, soldiersâŠ) who committed crimes against Algerians.
So no itâs not a step forward. Itâs not a win against colonialism. Itâs a government trying to blind you by pretending to care and youâre falling for it.

Papon is all set to Judge Maruti Suzuki Colors of Youth
Each one of us is heavenly gifted in a unique way and it is this innate ability or aptitude that makes you stand apart from others by making you more confident, successful and happy. Your talents also help you uncover the important objects of life while making you feel in all affairs that you deal with, on a daily basis. To be precise, God-given abilities, aptitudes or talents that you possess, make the greatest difference in your life, providing you acknowledge them and try to extract the most out of them for yourself as well as for others.
Today, there are various platforms- big and small- that greatly help the youth in getting the exposure and recognition they deserve. As you would perhaps be aware, âColors of Youthââ one such unique path breaking initiative by Maruti Suzuki, is a National College Challenge in which students from top colleges across India match their wits against each other to showcase their versatile personality and well-rounded talent. As the name itself suggests, the event aims at tapping the various colours (talents) the millennials have and extends a platform to them in order to showcase their hidden qualities and creative genius before the world.
The talent in this show ranges from singing, music, dancing, rapping, stand-up comedy, beatboxing, speed painting, car graphics, technological innovation, etc. The show, currently in its 8th season, has risen in popularity and success with every new season, thus becoming a much sought-after platform for students who are raring to showcase their potential &Â versatility. The event, in its previous 7 seasons, witnessed a coveted panel of judges who happen to be the very best in the industry- Diana Hayden, Benny Dayal, Lauren Gotlieb, and Nikhil Chinappa- to name a few. Colors of Youth- season 8 is poised to be bigger and better than ever before with the enigmatic Papon, the versatile Monali Thakur, the beautiful Loren Gotlieb and the very charming Salman Yusuf as the mentors who would be judging the contestants on their creative talent.
Papon has been known to be a promoter of fresh talent for years now. He has set an excellent example in the independent music scene with absolutely no backing and pure hard work that got him where he is today. The singer, who himself rose to fame through a singing reality show- Coke Studio, strongly believes that each one of us needs that certain push in life to get out of our comfort zone and show the world what we really have, especially the youth. He is an active supporter of talent shows according to him, each one of us possesses at least one special talent that is different from everybody else. Papon believes that âMS Colors of Youthâ is one platform where the bar of talent is only being raised with time. Hence, on being approached by the channel, he readily accepted the opportunity of becoming a judge on the show.
We really hope there are more people like Papon in the industry because âa chanceâ is the only thing many people seek but never end up getting. Kudos to this man!

In India, people do not focus on grooming musicians professionally, says popular Bollywood music director Pritam, who will soon be seen judging the second season of music reality television show âDil Hai Hindustaniâ.âI have noticed that in India, we do not groom musicians well to take things professionally. Yes, we focus on our vocalists a lot, but there are other artistes too, like instrumentalists, composers and lyricists.âOnce we identify the talent, grooming and nurturing is important,â Pritam told IANS.It is to fill this gap that he started the A&R (Artiste and Repertoire) platform called Jam8.âI am thinking of giving the best participant a chance to be a part of us. The winner will get a chance to sing a song in the film,â Pritam said. The singer-composer, known for working with new talents like Arijit Singh, Monali Thakur, Akriti Kakkar, Papon, Mika Singh, Antara Mitra and Amit Mishra, says he likes to work with fresh voices.âWhen I came in the industry, I had nothing. I met some of the great people who supported me with right opportunity to grow. I, as a music director, cannot change the destiny of someone, but I can surely can offer an opportunity.âSo I am trying to do that with my Jam8 platform,â said the âChanna Mereyaâ hitmaker.Sharing what he loves about âDil Hai Hindustaniâ, Pritam said: âOne of the best parts of the show is its concept, which encourages not only solo participants and vocalists but also instrumentalists, group performances, rappers⊠Therefore, thereâs a lot of original music content. It is a wholesome music show.âAs the show opens the doors for budding musicians from different countries, Pritam says their interest towards Hindi music is fascinating.âParticipants who are coming from places like Russia, Ukraine and other parts, got interested in our Indian culture from our film music.âThey do not know and understand our Hindi language but they have learnt it just by hearing them carefully. It is fascinating for me to know,â he said.Citing the example of one of such participant, Pritam said: âThere is a lady from abroad who started reading about Shiva and our mythology after hearing songs on Shiva in Bollywood music. She has got a tattoo of Shiva and chants shlokas beautifully.âAsked if choosing the best out of so much talent is a task that he finds tough, Pritam said: âI think that the bad part of the show is where I have to choose only one. However, knowing about new talent is always good because there is always a chance to mentor them and make them our own.âWhen I judge a talent, I am never harsh on them. I just try to help them to get rid of their flaws. I have been working in the music business for quite sometime, so I just try to do that. That is why in fact, I started Jam8.âThe second season of âDil Hai Hindustaniâ will begin on July 7 on Star Plus. IANS : 3rd. July,18
VETERAN MUSIC DIRECTOR PRITAM SAID : âWE DO NOT GROOM MUSICIANS WELL INÂ INDIAâ In India, people do not focus on grooming musicians professionally, says popular Bollywood music director Pritam, who will soon be seen judging the second season of music reality television show âDil Hai Hindustaniâ.âI have noticed that in India, we do not groom musicians well to take things professionally.

Papon row: Avuncular peck or perverse action, incident highlights need to teach kids about good, bad touch
When Papon kissed one of the children â a contestant on the reality show he judges, The Voice India Kids â did he think it would go unnoticed? Was it an avuncular peck on the lips, or a perverse action that took advantage of a child?
It was the candid video uploaded by Papon himself on Facbook that did the singer in. It showed him kissing his child protegee on the lips after he smeared herâŠ

MTV Roadies (Season 10) Theme Song by Papon
Today, reality TV shows have become a vital source of our entertainment after the never-ending era of daily soaps. They have played a very important role in making celebrities out of ordinary people. Audiences were introduced to a host of hidden talents that they never thought existed in the country. We see real people performing daredevil stunts or showcasing their skills. Viewers come to know about them and appreciate their performance. In addition, reality TV stars become very popular within a very short period of time. They do not need any Godfather to become successful in the show biz but use their talent to achieve success.
One of the biggest positive effects of reality TV shows is that they address numerous social issues and introduce people to the ills plaguing the society. For instance, they have played a very important role in enhancing women empowerment in society. With active discussion on various television forums, reality shows have made people more aware of what is happening in their vicinity.
One of the most popular youth-based reality shows today is MTV Roadies. Ever since its inception, this show has been soaring on the popularity charts. It first aired in 2003. In the show, a group of contestants travel to different destinations and participate in various tasks that challenge their physical and mental strength. During the course of the journey, there are vote outs, vote ins, eliminations and game changing twists. Eventually the contestant who manages to survive vote outs and succeed in the final task is chosen as the winner. The show has enjoyed relative success among the youth and with a 16-year history, it is one of India's longest running shows.
In 2013, the 10th season of MTV Roadies came out. The seasonâs theme song was sung by none other than the super talented and extremely versatile- Angaraag Mahanta, commonly known as Papon. The singer who stole the hearts of millions with his voice in âJiyein Kyunâ- the song that got him recognition in Bollywood, had now created a rage with Jajabor, the theme song for MTV Hero Roadies X, so much so that the song managed to get 56,000 plus hits on YouTube within a short span of 6 days and the number only seemed to be multiplying with every passing day.
Jajabor is an Assamese word for âyayavar - a Travellerâ, a person who travels through new destinations by creating new roads where none exist. The song is about being free from mental boundaries and stale thinking, striding with confidence towards a new destiny. Paponâs voice in the song is charming as ever and he manages to capture peopleâs hearts with as much ease. He has proved time and again that his versatility is beyond comparison.
We are absolutely in awe of the singer and love every single composition of his, how about youâll?

âA kiss of deathâ is how Paponâs colleagues in the music fraternity have described his act which cost the âMoh moh ke dhaageâ singer dearly. In his defence, Papon says he is a âdemonstrative, affectionateâ man and the kiss was âfatherlyâ. But the nation, and its favourite news anchor, are not buying this justification. The anchor was certain that the âutterly, untoward and unwantedâ attention by the self-styled Papa must have bewildered the child. In India, fathers donât kiss their daughters on their lips. Mahesh Bhatt had done so with his daughter Pooja and all hell had broken loose. That was 20 years ago, when the prudes were not professional protesters. Today, everyone is a closet social activist, running a private âsamaaj-sudhaarâ NGO. We are constantly focusing on the irrelevant, targeting celebrities because thatâs where the headlines are. Swara Bhaskarâs vaginal monologue hit home because it was about Sanjay Leela Bhansaliâs film. Luv Ranjanâs âSonu Ke Titu Ki Sweetyâ (which, by the way, I just loved) has a lot more to raise hackles about, including a heroine who is painted in the most tainted colours and a song that goes âBum bum boom boomâ where the leading men are seen slapping womenâs posteriors. âKoi nahin bolega, kya phayda hai?â says a middle-aged, highly successful director. âBecause Luv Ranjan is not as headline-friendly as Bhansali. No one will publicly speak up against Papon from the film industry because he is a popular playback singer today. And thereâs an unwritten rule that the film fraternity closes ranks when one of them gets into trouble.â This director is right. I asked all the leading lights of Bollywood to comment. No one responded. Except for Tapsee Pannu, who said she would want to hear the victimâs version before saying anything. Fair enough. Why isnât the victim saying anything? The victimâs parents have spoken in Paponâs defence, saying the singer has always played the mentor to their daughter, scrupulously. But some of Paponâs colleagues in Bollywood feel this defence is an eyewash. âAt this juncture the girlâs parents do not want to jeopardise her future by making her seem controversial. They want to win the reality show. I believe thereâs some amount of pressure from the channel as well to âsort out the matter internallyâ. No one wants this to blow up into a âperverted Paponâ campaign,â says a leading music composer who has worked with Papon. Meanwhile, the nationâs favourite watchdogs are baying for his blood. Senior cops see ânaked lustâ in Paponâs body language towards the girl. Sorry, I missed that. If you ask me, I really donât think the singer meant to show a lustful warmth towards the child. But he is a celebrity of sorts (though, to be honest, I havenât heard any of his songs except âMoh mohâ) and celebrities, especially in our country, are allowed to get away with outrageously improper behaviour. I know of at least two A-list superstars who talk most improperly, and lewdly, about their female co-stars before their cronies and friends who laugh out loudly. Then there is this intensely serious actor known for his masala and offbeat films and whoâs married to one of Bollywoodâs most accomplished actresses. He would tell his hangers-on in graphic detail what he had done to/with actress X or Y on the previous night. The descriptions were sheer porn. If only our filmy heroes and other entertainment icons did not make the correct noises only in public, they wouldnât be caught with their guard down when they feel no one is listening. Decorum is not only for the CCTV cameras. Mid.day.com : 4th. Mar,18
