The bickering coming from the kitchen has become entirely too much for Styx to ignore anymore. With mild irritation he walks down the hall, where the voices of his teenaged children start to get louder and louder.

“Dude, they spelt it wrong.” Nyx sounds crestfallen. “They fucked it up.”

“Get me a piping bag. I can fix it.” Archer offers, level headed as ever. “Shit. We don’t have gel, do we?”

“Nope!” Came the third, Papili chipper as always. She sounds as though she’s been laughing.

Perhaps bicker was the wrong choice of word, an unfair assessment, Styx thinks, finally reconciling with the fact that his children are just loud. They certainly did not get that from him.

He enters the kitchen to find the three huddled around something on the counter.

“Maybe we can just smudge it out. Pre-slice it?” Papili muses, humming as she bounces up and down on her heels.

“No.” Her brothers respond in unison, unamused.

“It’s bad luck,” Styx says by way of announcing his presence. “To cut someone else's wriggling day cake.”

The three turn to face him at the same time, revealing the offending pastry in the process.

There it is. Happy Wriggling Day S-T-I-C-K-S.

“Uhm. Surprise?” They say all at once through uneasy smiles.
