Yes, I was misinformed and I’ve already acknowledged my mistake, as you can clearly see from other reblogs I’ve already added to this post. Her being mute rather than deaf doesn’t negate my point, which is that there’s very little representation for people who communicate in nonstandard ways, and the fact that this character communicates via ASL is extremely significant in terms of representation.

I’m not saying anyone had a right to do anything. I’m saying the cops ordered folks to disperse while simultaneously blocking folks in. Kinda contradictory, and when I said the violence they started, I didn’t mean breaking windows. I meant macing people, chanting “who’s streets? our streets!”, trampling people, shooting members of the media with rubber bullets. Sure, you can argue that it was wrong for protesters to break windows. But the police weren’t justified in plenty of actions they DID do, whether or not one cop might have kicked in a window or cleaned up the glass.
