Top 4 Species To Explore While Papagayo Inshore Fishing
Looking for the best fishing grounds in Costa Rica? Choose the area of papagayo sportfishing Costa Rica on the North Pacific coast. Featuring an incredibly rich quantity of game fish, stunning topography, and a wide range of charter fleet, Papagayo provides some of the greatest opportunities for sport fishing in Costa Rica.
Papagayo can be understood as a curved bay that is located between the Papagayo Peninsula and the mainland of Costa Rica. This area embraces over thirty -five miles of shore line, peaceful emerald water and steady blow that puts sailfish, marlin, tuna, mahi-mahi, rooster fish etc.
Papagayo fishing grounds can be visited on full, half, or quarter day shared basis or private charter for your group only. Shared trips are very cheap, often $200-400 per person while per day private charters cost between $1000-3000 for 4-6 people. Boats leave from either the Papagayo or Playas del Coco marinas.
Inshore Fishing
Papagayo is particularly famous for phenomenal Papagayo Inshore Fishing that takes place just several miles from the coast. This is an exciting light tackle fishing where people catch fish and fight them continuously on spinning rods and the countervailing reels.
A normal boat trip for inshore fishing in the company of Papagayo fishing boats entails floating live sardines over reefs and rock piles in 20-60 feet of crystal clear waters. Fishing chasers use popping plugs, jigs and flies to cast between areas and attract any predator that may be present. Squid and shrimp bottom fishing also yields good snapper and grouper fish.
Tumblr media
Offshore Fishing
Going more than 10 miles off the island unleashes the opportunity to hook and tussle with Pacific billfish and tunas around floats and temperature breaks. Sailfish and striped marlin, the two top catches at Papagayo, are most abundant between November and the middle of May Trolling with diving plugs, feathers and ballyhoo entice these aerial artists, as well as dorado, yellowfin tuna and wahoo.
This means that clear waters enable the Initiation of offshore day trips from the shores of Papagayo throughout the year. However there is comfortable fishing from May to October since the sea is warmer and the winds lighter. During these months, dolphins and whales also move around to add onto the experience.
Top Papagayo Species
Because of such a great variability of the landscape, it is not surprising when the fishermen of Papagayo catch more than 20+ kinds of fish commonly. But these four fish tend to show up more than others:
1. Sailfish – Quick and flashy, sailfish are very acrobatic when caught, jumping out of the water in spectacular arcs. Both fight and beauty make multiple hookups popular although while trolling offshore.
2. Mahi-Mahi (Dorado) – Brightly colored and fast moving on light gear, mahi weigh from 5-40 lbs around floats and flotsam. The tasty white fillets are consumed in seafood restaurants across the pacific coast.
3. Roosterfish – These fish gain girth and heft and can reach sizes of more than 50 pounds; these fish lurk along the surf line and in the shallow reef areas. Their broadsides glow with iridescent blues and are not as easy to catch as one would think on medium spinning gear.
4. Cubera Snapper – They are one of the inshore fishing bucket list species that wait for bait around rock piles and reefs. Tackle busters over 30lbs make them one of the most sought after and challenging snapper to fish.

Are you up for the challenge of taking on some of the best light tackle and offshore fishing in Costa Rica? Visit the Papagayo region of the North Pacific coast. Costa Rica Marlin Fishing
Big Marlin Fishing in Costa Rica
Want to get hooked up on a BIG Costa Rica Marlin?
I am Captain Mark Corn of Southern Costa Rica Sport Fishing, located in Puerto Jiminez Costa Rica and Blue and Black Marlin fishing is our specialty and is also the species we target most of the time.
Tumblr media
There are a variety of reasons why most of our Costa Rica fishing trips are for marlin. Yes, they can grow to tremendous sizes which is a major attraction by itself but sharks are big too and we usually won't target them.
Our customers that fly down for exotic fishing vacations in Costa Rica seem to prefer marlin fishing too so that is one of the reasons so many of our trips target marlin. But for the crew and myself, marlin fishing is our specialty because the marlin species, either Black or Blue is Costa Rica's ultimate fish and it's the world's ultimate sportfish too for that matter.
Tumblr media
Marlin is at the top of the food chain and it is us that venture into their world, on their "turf". Because they are the ocean's top billfish they provide anglers that are good enough to get hooked up to a large specimen a chance to test his own fishing skills and knowledge.
They offer anglers a chance to go one on one with the oceans top fish, it's the man against nature's best and you better be ready to give it your all because this beautiful creature of the deep is going to do anything and everything for his chance at freedom.
Now you know why and what the attraction is, what drives some very enthusiastic anglers to spend half their lives hunting these fish. With that in mind, you now need to know how we catch these giant Costa Rica Marlin.
Tumblr media
The best time of the year for fishing for marlin in Costa Rica is from Sept through march. We use two different tactics for catching marlin in Costa Rica. Tactic Number One for Costa Rica Marlin Fishing (Fishing Structures)
We fish mainly over pencils, seamounts, and ridges for both species. These structures are like an ocean cafeteria to a marlin. Why do you ask? Bait, Bait Bait. The favorite bait for marlin is skipjack tuna. These tuna usually hang around these structures, because of the upsweep of the currents below. The currents bring up food that the skipjack feed on. We spot the tuna either on the depth sounder or see them feeding on top of the water.
Tumblr media
Our method for catching the tunas is to troll white jigs through the feeding tuna. Most of the time we get multiple hookups. The bait is then reeled up and we have a wet towel to put the tuna in while he is rigged up to troll live. We use rigging floss and insert a bait needle through the top of the eye socket. This is called bridging the bait. Then twist the hook a few times to take up the slack in the floss. When completed your hook should be tight above the eyes of the bait.
We use a 300lb test fluorocarbon leader with a 16-o or 20-o circle hook depending on the size of the bait used. The rods we use for Costa Rica marlin fishing are 80lb class, with 50 wide reels spooled with 80lb test clear line. This gives you plenty of backbone in hauling in your prize catch. We fish 2 to 3 rods at a time for multiple hookups on marlin. There is nothing better than a double hook up on marlin...This makes my job a challenge which one do we go after first??? The answer to the closest one first.
Tumblr media
When we are Costa Rica marlin fishing using live tuna we adjust the boat speed so the tuna swims along effortlessly and looks good. When we get over the structure we put the boat into neutral and this allows the baits to swim down deeper. This method seems to produce more bites from the marlin. If we have no luck the boat is put into gear to move on down the structure. Next time you are fishing in Costa Rica you should give this method a shot when fishing in Costa Rica for marlin, it produces. Marlin Fishing in Costa Rica, Tactic Number Two (open water trolling)
When on the hunt for marlin in open water we always keep our eyes open for birds working ( feeding, diving, circling). Flocks of birds usually means bait, where schools of skipjack tuna and yellowfin tuna are feeding. We use the same method as mentioned before for catching the tuna, trolling jigs. Don't be afraid of using a big tuna for bait.
Tumblr media
A marlin can eat a bait that is 10% of there body weight. Yes, 10% a 1000lb marlin can eat a 100lb tuna. We use tunas from 10lb to 20lb for bait. The method used in open water fishing for marlin when using live tunas for bait is to troll the tunas on the outer edge of the schooling tunas. The marlin usually stay on the outer edge of the tuna and dart into the school for there prey.
Vishing in Papagayo Visit https://papagayofishingcostarica.com/ to book a fishing trip
Marlin can also be taken in open water when blind trolling which is a tactic of trolling with lures at 9 knots in order to cover as much ground as possible. Using this method you have a cinch of catching other species of game fish (sailfish, dolphin, wahoo). Our favorite marlin lure is usually located on what we call the short corner. The lure is set on the 2nd wave behind the boat (only 15ft from the transom). What a spectacular bite and sight it is to see a 650lb marlin come up just 15ft behind the boat and inhale your lure and take off into the sunset.
On your next Costa Rica marlin fishing trip, I hope you will give my methods a try because I think you will hook the lady in the blue dress or the one in the black dress - AKA Costa Rica Marlin.
Costa Rica Fishing Boats, Tamarindo Charter Boats
When you finally arrive for your Costa Rica fishing trip you will be fishing on one of two boats. Either the Cormoran or the La Chila which are both equally fine Costa Rica fishing boats. Both boats are very seaworthy, comfortable, really fast, and are loaded with all the latest electronic fishing and safety gear to ensure your party's or family's complete safety while you fish in comfort.
Visit to learn more https://www.costaricafishingexperts.com/fishing-in-tamarindo/
Each boat can comfortably fish up to 4 anglers or riders. Our boats feature a flybridge, deep "V" hull and can cruise at what is considered high speeds on the water which means you can get to the various Costa Rica fishing grounds in a very quick fashion which is very important. Costa Rica fishing trips include::
Rod n reels    Lures, tackle and live bait if needed    Artificial and/or Live Bait is included on all fishing trips.    All gear is included in your charter price.    Also, snack, fruits, beers, soft drinks, bottled water, bait, ice as well as a complete box lunch for a full day.    We recommend the full day for offshore fishing.    Onboard tackle is 20 to 130-pound class.    We pick-up and drop-off at your beach without extra fee.

The motto of Costa Rica is “Pura Vida,” which translates into “pure life” or “simple life.” A Costa Rican vacation emphasizes respect for diverse wildlife, where one lives side by side with white-faced monkeys swinging through trees and iguanas walking along the road. In Costa Rica, beaches abutt to jungles, volcanos, and rain forests. Streams and rivers filled with crocodiles sprout up in the middle of dusty agricultural plains. Life moves at a slow pace, and friends become family.
Tumblr media
I’ve been to Costa Rica three times in my life, and each trip brought with it unique adventures that I could not have experienced anywhere else. I went to Nosara, Costa Rica, with my brother and his wife to celebrate his 50th birthday. More specifically, I went to surf camp in Nosara. The town consists of mostly unpaved dirt roads, and when we went in October, it was the rainy season. Meals were served “family style” on picnic tables in a carport of an old garage. My surf instructor was cute, but his English was limited, and I never quite understood the directions on “how to stand up on the board.” My first (and only) day of surfing consisted of me falling off my surfboard for several hours until I decided to quit due to the arrival of rain, thunder, and lightening. My brother and his wife continued all week and did quite well, as did my husband, Scott, the “advanced” surfer. I was a failure at surf camp, and couldn’t wait to get out of the mud, rain, and rustic conditions.

I had to dig deep into my bravery reserves for our day of the “Coco Combo.” This adventure consisted of one-hour on individual jetskis, one-hour on individual ATVs (all-terrain vehicles), and one-hour ziplining. Then lunch, and a repeat of the original three activities in reverse order…but this time in the rain. The instructor explained that our lives were at stake when riding the ATVs if we did not keep one foot on the gas pedal AT ALL TIMES while going up the VERY steep inclines. He said that even a second’s hesitation could cause the ATV to fall over backward and crush us. He was most concerned about me (he must have seen the look on my face), so he placed me at the front of the group, right behind him. This seemed strange to me since if my ATV started tumbling, I might kill everyone. No pressure, though. I was so terrified of the hills that by the time we had to drive our vehicles through the raging waters of the stream, it wasn’t a problem at all. I still consider this day to be one of the most difficult and strenuous days I’ve ever had.

  Mission accomplished!
On another trip to the land of Pura Vida, I stayed in a luxury home as part of Exclusive Resorts on the Penisula Papagayo. We had Capuchin monkeys flying through the trees outside our window. My days were spent at one of two private beach clubs. My nights included dinners in our home with a private chef. My friends and I played after-dinner games, had a “dance night,” and caught up on our leisure reading.

On that trip, we drove to the Palo Verde National Park, an extensive wildlife sanctuary. We chartered a boat for a river cruise to see crocodiles, bats, and birds while our naturalist, Juan, regaled us with fascinating and gruesome stories about Capuchin monkeys, named after the coffee drink for their white faces and brown bodies. They are brilliant and can use tools to get what they want. I found it interesting that juveniles become fully mature within four years for females and eight years for males. (Same concept ratio for humans?) When a mature male decides to become the alpha for the group, he must kill the prior alpha male’s offspring by sucking out their brains. Clearly, we got the “adult” narration from Juan.

Because of the lush jungle canopy, Costa Rica is known for it’s ziplining. I’ve done this on two separate trips. For me, it’s a little bit scary, and a lot of fun. I enjoy the view from above the tree tops and the feeling of exhilaration while rushing along the line at a zippy pace. Each trip, some friends have experienced it for the first time, and so far everyone has been happy they conquered their fears and gave it a shot.

On my latest trip, I visited a unique historical site, the HACIENDA EL VIEJO, a preserved colonial home from the 19th century. We ate a traditional Costa Rican lunch (protein, rice, beans) while the warm breeze blew through the mahogany pillars next to our balcony table. Situated at the river’s edge, this homestead was ideal for farming, fishing, and ranching.

Costa Ricans are concerned about our environment, and 98% of their electricity is generated from “green” sources. Finally we get to surf Ollies Point.. Alone as good as it gets!
The following morning we woke up early and zoomed towards our destination. Ollies point…… We pulled in and it was gangbusters … wait no it was FLAT! We arrived the day before the surf. We pulled in there and there were several boats with tons of surfers surfing a small wave with a very concentrated take off spot. We went into the mangroves and looked around the beach. I have to say the bay itself is spectacular.
About 4pm everyone left and we went for our first surf there on a rising tide with waist high surf…. You could tell the wave was going to be awesome as it reeled off along a perfect sandbank at waist high barreling all the way. We stayed the night and got up at 445 to the sound of the beach break. Grabbed our gear and we arrived before it was even really daylight, just a little color in the sky, but we were alone and it was perfect Ollies Point. Over head high in the sets and just the three of us out.
There was another boat up there in the park with us, a beautiful 125ft super yacht called Sunshine. It was the same boat that had helped us to enter Colon and Shelter Bay when we arrived in Panama. When you enter the canal zone, the port authority wants you to call up and identify yourself and ask permission to enter, but for some reason Sunshine could hear us, but the port authority could not. The captain, an Aussie guy, graciously got us permission to enter. After that we saw them in Golfito while we were there surfing Pavones and next we bump into them in Ollies. We had a great time surfing with them all and taking turns over the next four days early in the mornings and late in the afternoons, but all in all about 7 hours of Ollies all to ourselves with no one else out there….. Loving it
The second day we were there the Guarda Costa showed up to inform us that we were not allowed to anchor overnight at Ollies… Gulp. And had to go down to the Rangers Base about 8 miles away in a beautiful little archipelago of islands called the Isla Murcielagos and that we had to go to Playa Del Coco to get the park permits at a cost of $15.oo per person per day. PS no overnight anchoring at witches rock either.
Well that night we stayed again in Ollies and prayed the Guarda Costa didn’t show up early and kick us out permanently. We surfed alone that morning … perfection from 4.45am to about 8.30am, just me and Elwin and Rob… well over head sets, barrels all over the place and long fast powerful Ollies Point perfection.. as good as it gets.
We decided after that session we needed to call surfing by another name. What we were doing bore absolutely no resemblance to what I had grown to know surfing as. Fighting to get a wave of the crowds of people at over hyped overcrowded and under-waved famous surf spots. Here we were surfing perfect sand bottomed point break, alone day after day after day, in a location as close to paradise as I have ever seen…. Taking turns being the dealer, meaning you can take any wave you want in the set…. But usually there were far more waves than we could surf…. And when its like that you get a wave…. Ride 250 yards down the point, paddle back and catch the very next wave coming your way without stopping to catch your breath
We were catching as many quality waves in one two hour session as our arms would let us and I am certain that I spent more actual time surfing ( standing on my board )  in a day at Ollies, than I would usually get surfing a month or two at my normal spots. It was Gangbusters. The best surfing of my life.
Sadly the crowds also agreed with us and the afternoon after the Coast Guard came and explained the rules to us, there were 13 boats filled with exactly the type of surfers we were trying to avoid…. we surfed the morning and a bit into the afternoon, then up anchor and headed to the ranger station, the same location as our friends on Sunshine were anchored. When we got close, they were heading out to wards us, so I got on the radio and asked whats sup? The night before, while we sat in a beautiful peaceful anchorage in Ollies Point, they were being hammered by 65 knot winds coming down the hillside into the Ranger Station anchorage….. GULP. So we turned around and followed them back to Ollies and stowed away for another night.
We surfed perfection the next morning again with the Sunshine crew and another couple of the charter boats. We surfed until we couldn’t physically paddle or see or breathe….. a lot of waves. Elwin, Rob and I all improving and focusing on our weak points and enjoying the best waves of our lives.
One morning I get up and Rob tells me he went outside to see the stars and pee in the middle of the night . He noticed one of the other three boats there with us had moved… a long way.. like right out of the bay… and we couldn’t see them anywhere at all… I assumed they had pulled anchor and left to go surf Withces Rock early the next day, but it turned out that when they anchored, they dropped all their anchor chain on top of their anchor and as the tide rose, it lifted the anchor off the bottom and they drifted 5 miles out of the bay and into the fishing fleet at sea… where they woke up the next morning. They had an issue getting the anchor up at sea as they only had a small windlass and 200 ft of anchor chain somehow piled up and tangled around their anchor making it too heavy to lift… It is truly a miracle that they got out of the bay without killing themselves. The wind was blowing towards the rocks and on the rocks at the end of the point there was a solid 15 foot left heaving into jagged black lava rock. To this day I have no idea how they missed waking up as they were hurled into those rocks. I went over the next day and showed them a great free app for an anchor alarm for their phones.
That afternoon the waves were dropping so we pulled anchor and went out to surf Witches Rock. Another surfers dream spot. We got there and the waves were small but fun. Elwin and Rob surfed away the afternoon and I played with the drone filming them take turns as we surfed alone in paradise. Rob had managed to pull a muscle in his arm from so many arm drag backside barrels.... so he had to stop dragging that arm.
Back to Ollies for an evening session and our last surf with the Sunshine crew. They left us alone at Ollies, but we made friends that we hope to cross paths with next year in French Polynesia. The next morning as they left we played “ aint no sunshine when youre gone “ over the radio and were sincerely sorry to see them go… OK well maybe not that sorry, as now we were totally alone again and surfing our brains out.
One scary night we had a huge storm go right over us. The lightening was hitting the hills right beside us and filling the air with super loud cracks… fortunately they all missed Brisa again. The huge thunderstorms in the tropics are incredibly powerful and scary and this night that same storm chased a couple of the tour boats into hiding in caves while the storm passed. They anchored the boats near an island, made everyone swim in and hid in a cave until it stopped. Scary.
We ate great food, we surfed incredible waves, we slept like tired babies. It really was every surfers dream boat trip. Finally, after many many amazing waves, we had to go and drop Rob off in Playa del Coco and pay our park bill.
Rob had managed to pull a muscle in his arm from so many arm drag backside barrels....
Luckily the Rangers had not shown up early to kick us out, but we felt we were pushing our luck, so we decided to go stay at the Rangers Station anchorage each night and get up at 315 every day to get back to Ollies early and beat the tour boats.
Rob took us to lunch and we said our goodbyes. Elwin and I went shopping to restock the fridges and pantry and Rob sadly left us to go back to California. A big thanks to Laura for taking care of his mom for us all so he could join us. It was a long time between surfing together for Rob and I, but as soon as he showed up it was like old times again!!!!
Elwin and I bailed out and went up to Papagayo Marina to wait for 4 days until the next swell showed up. This would become our routine. Hit Ollies every swell, return to Playa Del Coco and Papagayo and wait for the next swell. We literally surfed every day that there were waves, alternating between Ollies and Witches. We met a lot of surfers up there and as the weeks went by we stopped being harassed by the homeless people near the beach where we landed our dingys, the local salesmen said hi instead of trying to sell us a tour and we had “ Pura Vida “on the tip of our tongues and ringing in our ears and feeling it in our hearts. The call sign of Costa Rica had become out Motto.
Pure Life.

St Tropez - A Yacht Charters Destination Guide
Particularly keen on this holiday destination are yacht owners and those with a yacht charter. This once inaccessible, ancient fishing village is now renowned as the playground for the rich and famous and attracts some of the richest pleasure cruising and yachting enthusiasts in the world. It's marina can accommodate up to 1050 vessels at any one time with only 100 of the berths reserved for visitors, the marina is definitely the place to be. Summertime in the marina is quite a sight, with expensive yacht after yacht berthed dockside allowing many guests to step straight off deck and into the hustle and bustle that the town boasts. Many of the yacht guests own or rent property in the area and you can regularly see many executive, chauffer driven cars as well as high performance sports cars parked port side awaiting their owners.
Bars, restaurants and cafes sprawl the dockside of the Vieux Port and are frequented by yachtsmen and their crews there to hobnob, sip martinis and get noticed. There is plenty more wining and dining to be enjoyed around the Quai Jean Jaurès, on the Place des Lices (directly south of the old port), throughout the alleyways of the Rue Allard and Georges-Clemenceau with fantastic gourmet, seafood and traditional cafes and brasseries. The cuisine is distinctive of the area with a massive influence of spices and flavors, including olive oil, of the Mediterranean. Fine dining is surprisingly affordable and menus offer diverse and appealing food as well as wine, typically sourced from around the Rhone Valley.
St Tropez's night life caters for everyone, with retail houses remaining open until dusk to allow for the perfect outfit to be purchased for the evening. Legendary nightclubs such as Les Caves du Roy in the swanky Hotel Byblos allow you to rub shoulders with Hollywood's elite. Bodega de Papagayo, an Asian inspired bar and restaurant catering for the younger scene and Kelly's Irish Bar where Guinness and live music are always on the menu, casinos and discotheques are packed full of wealthy individuals enjoying what's on offer throughout the high season. If the aim is to mingle with celebrities and the elite then there is no avoiding the expense that comes hand in hand with such an extravagant lifestyle, cocktails and food can be very expensive in these parts.
Think of St Tropez and immediately you see sun, sea and sand. With magnificent golden migaloo private submarines including the small and enchanting Baile des Canoubiers and the world famous Les Salins, and of course Pampelonne beach which is perhaps, for yacht owners and charters, one of the most popular destinations to anchor off shore and spend the day getting well introduced to the yacht's sea toys including jet skis.
Despite first glances, St Tropez has a lot more to offer than just overpriced glitz and glamour, the town boasts some of the most incredible architectural marvels, art exhibitions, museums and beautiful parks where you can often find a game of Boules being played.
When exploring the surrounding Riviera particular hot-spots for yachters include Nice, often thought of as the down-to-earth St Tropez. Nice exploits yet more picturesque beaches, a more vibrant and younger gathering and offers more artistic culture.
Cannes is another local destination definitely worth visiting. As famous for the annual film festival which is held there every May as the rich, celebrity crowd that populate the area, Cannes hosts exclusive beaches, shopping boutiques and a sensational climate.
Also nestled along the French Rivierra, known locally in France as the Cote D'Azur, are the charming tows of Antibes and its sister town Juan-Les-Pins, located just five minutes south. Both towns are incredibly busy in peak season, between June and September and it can be difficult to find an available spot to sit and enjoy the sun and sea. A multitude of water activities are on offer in both areas and rental locations are easily accessible for jet ski hire etc. Juan-Les-Pins is regarded as the more playful Antibes and houses the largest yacht and super yacht port in Europe, renowned for its exceptional access.
Having mentioned a small variety of other areas that you can visit whilst holidaying here, there is no place quite like St Tropez. It is uniquely brilliant and has so much to offer that you will never get bored. Whether it is a quiet, sun and sea filled yachting holiday that you require or if wish to party like a rock-star in the A-list celeb clubs then St Tropez could be your perfect destination.

Los Suenos Charter Boats
Tamarindo Flamingo Papagayo Fishing
Tamarindo in the spring time (March, April, May), is known for marlin because of its proximity to the outer most edge of Costa Rica, right on the drop offs. While you can definitely catch billfish in other locations during these months, it is not uncommon for good boats to pull 8-10 billfish into the boat in a day. There is a bit more wind to contend with when fishing in this area. Tamarindo is a great place to go fishing, inshore is ok too, but if I were going fishing in Costa Rica, I would not choose Tamarindo. If I were going on a family vacation and wanted the white sand beaches Tamarindo is known for, ok then, let’s get some fishing in while you’re here in Costa Rica; otherwise, fish to the south.
QUEPOS SPORTFISHING
Quepos has a new marina. Marina Pez Vela is open in limited operation. Access to loading and unloading is excellent. The proximity to the Furuno banks, which everyone knows is the most famous fishing grounds in Costa Rica (about an hour away in a good boat). Inshore rooster fishing is excellent when the sardines are available. The key with the Quepos marina is that is located next to Manuel Antonio which offers budget hotels to luxury cliffside estates. There are private homes, many hotels, and just a lot of options for lodging. Inshore in Quepos there is some rooster fishing and some snook fishing in the spring. Fishing out of Quepos, you will find yourself fishing with boats from Los Suenos. The reason to choose Quepos over Los Suenos is the quicker run to the Furuno banks and the multitude of lodging opportunities. It is slightly less expensive to fish in Quepos due to the lower cost of moorage.
LOS SUENOS FISHING
Los Suenos Resort & Marina was completed a little more than 10 years ago, and become Costa Rica’s most popular luxury living, vacation and sport fishing destination.  Los Suenos has been indexed with World’s Best Awards from Top Resort and Travel + Leisure. As well, Los Suenos Resort & Marina is considered the #1 destination for deep sea fishing in the western hemisphere by professional anglers the world over. Whether you are a pro-angler or just looking for some high seas adventure while on your vacation, booking a Los Suenos fishing charter is best choice to make.
“There is not a better place to book a fishing charter from in Costa Rica, whether you are looking for trophy offshore marlin and sailfish orhardcore inshore action, than Los Suenos Marina.” Dan Ross
Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort is a large, Spanish colonial style residential luxury vacation resort perfectly sculpted between the ocean and a rainforest reserve.
With 200-slips at the Los Suenos marina we have plenty of fishing charters, booking as far in advance as possible is highly recommended. There plenty of boat size options to choose from; we have boats from 28’ charters to 100’ luxury sportfishing yachts.
The Los Suenos Resort hosts the Los Suenos Signature Triple Crown Billfish Tournament, which has taken the sportfishing world by storm since its inception in 2014. The 2016 Triple Crown produced spectacular results with 43 teams competing over three Legs, and releasing 6,570 billfish (marlin & sailfish)!
Los Suenos Marina is just an hour and fifteen minute drive from the San Jose airport, making it one of the most accessible destinations in Costa Rica to catch big predator fish. The marina has all the amenities; restaurants, bars, shopping, including a 200 room Marriott Hotel, world class 18-hole golf course, and beautiful ocean view luxury vacation rentals.
