Sawyer family backstory headcanons!

Draytons parents were in their late teens (18 and 19) when they had him and his mother married into the family since the wife usually always takes the husbands last name

The reason why there is such a large age gap between Drayton and his 3 brothers is because his parents wanted to wait till they were in their thirties to try having more kids but they faced fertility problems, making their other boys be born in their fourties

(Just because the brothers fight with each other doesn’t mean that they had a bad home life that’s just a thing that siblings do which as one I can definitely confirm lol)

They all lived in Grandpa and Grandma Sawyers house but since the father and grandfather would be at the slaughterhouse it left the women to watch over them

Drayton started working at the gas station when he was 16 and although his father was a bit disappointed that he wasn’t going to work at the slaughterhouse he was still supportive of him nonetheless

Mama Sawyer was a free spirit and always encouraged her kids to do whatever made them happy regardless of how strange their activities were *ahem* Nubbins, and taught Drayton how to cook which is why it’s his favorite activity to do

Papa Sawyer was a bit more realistic and calmer than his wife but still loved his boys anyway and taught them how to skin animals and how to hunt. He also worried about finances and the boys going off and being wild children.

Grandma Sawyer taught her grandsons how to sew and how to fix things around the house such as furniture and lamps

Grandpa Sawyer was always playing with them and listening to whatever they wanted to talk about and his grandsons mainly came to him if they were upset over something

Nubbins, Bubba, and Chop Top all canonically worked at the slaughterhouse likely starting at the age of 18 and into their early to mid twenties until their grandfather quit in protest and they followed suite

Worried about finances their father decided to travel elsewhere looking for work and his wife joined him since she didn’t want him to be alone and because her boys were already grown, before leaving she told her boys to look after one another and then they left

However as they were away they were murdered by a serial killer and their bodies were never found the family just assumed that maybe they just haven’t found work yet but deep down Drayton thinks they just got sick of having to waste their money on them and left

Shortly afterwards a robber would break into their home at night and kill the grandmother and in a fit of rage they all attacked the robber and in their madness and grief would decide to cook and eat the robber

This explains why they eat people and why they hate outsiders so much

After this grandpa sawyer would fall into his current state after having lost the love of his life and would remain that way for most of the time

Drayton would all of a sudden be forced to take on the responsibility of caring for his reckless brothers which is when he would have angry outbursts and use the broom

Nubbins doesn’t really care about bothering him (we see in the first movie he’s not scared when Drayton hits or threatens him and instead openly mocks him) and chooses to do whatever he wants even if his brother doesn’t approve such as leaving Bubba alone even thought Draytons scared someone will hurt him like they did with his grandma

Bubba is more frightened when Drayton gets like that since growing up his brother was always kind and would take care of them all, so seeing that side of him is something else entirely

Chop is kinda like Nubbins but not as extreme and is more comfortable being around him (in tcm2 he latches onto Draytons sleeve when Enright arrives and is always joking and singing to his brother) and when he was younger he would ride in the pickup truck along with Drayton or his mama and they would sing along to the radio

Chop has a strong sense of patriotism (as suggested in the trailers for the All American Massacre movie that was never released) and wanted to join the army to fight for his country like his daddy always taught him to do

Drayton although concerned for his younger brother encouraged him to serve since he would learn more about the world (and because it would be one less mouth to feed 👀)

Slashers comforting S/O after a nightmare

Jason Voorhees

Jason wakes up by the sound of you squirming and whimpering. He looks in concern as you cried out his name.

He wished he could speak so he could yell out your name and try to wake you up.

He shakes you lightly and you soon woke up with a scream.

You breathe heavily as Jason’s face now is in a concerned state. He starts to wipe away the tears falling from your cheeks.

You hug him, crying as he held you close like a papa wolf protecting his baby.

“I had a nightmare.... where you drowned again..... I tried to save you.... But it was no use....” you cried out, laying your head on his shoulder.

He pulls you to look at him as he looks at you with a comforting gaze before kissing you on the forehead like he was saying, "Everything is going to be ok.”

He will cradle you back to sleep while not leaving your side until you fall asleep peacefully. 

Michael Myers

It was a nice peaceful night. Michael was by your side, fast asleep. 

However, he gets startled by the sound of your screams. He gets his knife thinking it was an intruder. But to his shock and worry, he saw you.

You were tossing and turning around in bed like a crazy cat.

He didn’t know what to do because he never knew how to deal with stuff like this. So he would do what his brain would tell him to do and that is to wake you up.

He grabs your shoulders and pushes on them firmly but gently.

You soon wake up with a yell. Sweating with fear. You look up to see Michael staring over you. You hug him crying and he simply just pats you on the back.

“I had a bad dream where I was locked in some sort of dark hallway. I tried to scream out your name but you never came.”

Michael will feel upset as tears fall out your eyes.

He would wrap his arm around you so you would cry onto his shoulder until you feel better.

When you fall back to sleep, he will stay up, making sure you wouldn’t have another nightmare.

Bubba Sawyer

Bubba hears you scream from downstairs. His mind instantly goes to anger mood as he got his chainsaw, ready to tear whoever was making you scream.

His anger turned into that of concern when he sees you on the bed, screaming out his name.

He would drop his chainsaw immediately and run to you.

Poor baby wouldn’t know how to wake you up so he would just snort loudly, telling to wake up until you do.

After you wake up, Bubba is by your side immediately. Wiping your tears from your eyes and cradling you on your lap.

He snorts softly, soothing you.

Bubba would kiss you on the cheek trying to calm you down and petting your hair until you are calm.

Bo Sinclair

Bo wakes up with you crying loudly. “ugh, what now?!” He screams as he walks into your room and breaks down your door in process.

“What are you crying about this time, bitch?!” He screams out before seeing you tossing and turning in bed.

He would walk over to you and wake you up by shaking you (not softly btw).

You wake up with a scream and Bo would look somewhat concerned as you lay awake with tears in your eyes.

“Are you okay, darling?” he asks as you looked up at him.

“Bo! I had the worst possible nightmare!” you cried into his chest.

“What happened, darling?”

“The house was on fire.... Lester and Vincent managed to escape but you were still trapped in there.... I tried to rescue you but Lester held me back and said it was not worth it.... I had to watch you die....”

Bo would sit by your side and give you a tight hug.

“Darling it was all a dream. It wasn’t real. I’m still here. I ain’t going anywhere.” Bo would sooth to you, cuddling you in his lap.

He would kiss your forehead and say I love you.

When you fall back to sleep, he will sigh of relief and hope he would not have to wake up in the middle of the night again.

Vincent Sinclair

Vincent hears you screaming from his gallery. He gets scared as he runs to your room to see you screaming in bed.

He will walk to your bed and tap you until you wake up, gasping.

Vincent looks over to you with fear. Scared that something was hurting you.

“I’m ok, Vincent... I just a bad dream where I got attacked by one of your victims when they were escaping.... They knocked me down and I was hurt badly...”

Like the other non-vocal slashers, he will let you cry over his shoulder while comforting you by petting your hair.

If Bo comes in to tell you to shut up, he would glare at him and point to your tearful face. Bo would understand slightly and leave the room.

Once you’ve calm down and fall back to sleep, he would watch over you like a protective dog.

The next day, Vincent will be very careful with his victims. He makes sue they don’t try to escape or attack you. It’s good to have a loyal boyfriend.

Lester Sinclair

Lester was on the bed, sleeping peacefully. However, that moment didn’t last long before he woke up by the sound of you screaming and crying.

Lester would take a bit to wake himself up and run to your room.

“My possum, are you ok in there?” he says knocking.

He can only hear you scream out his name and he swings open the door to see you tossing and turning.

He runs over to your bed and shakes you on the shoulders.

“Wake up, my possum! Wake up!” He says repeatedly, shaking you until you woke up with a scream.

Sure, I'll expand on this. Point of note, this is pretty West Coast/FNV-centric since that's my primary area of interest.

Let's start with defining terms since this is the piss-on-the-poor website. A raider is a bandit, someone who survives by plunder, often roaming in search of things to steal or people to attack. Many raider gangs in the Wasteland are relatively loose allegiances of a few like-minded individuals, but some are established social groups with distinct cultures. The 80s, the Vipers, and the Khans are examples of raider groups that expanded to fit the definition of a tribe—that is, a social division consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect.

The 80s, first outlined in Joshua Sawyer's rpg, are a gang of bandits that operate along the Northern California 80 Freeway and have long contested territory with the White Legs; The Vipers are organized around their shared religion, which is only vaguely described as ancient, but there are what appear to be ritualistic elements to their organization and raiding practices.

The Khans, inspired by Genghis Khan and the Mongols Motorcycle Club, value strength and martial prowess. Founded around 2141, the Khans raided and traded around Shady Sands and Junktown before they were wiped out by the Vault Dweller. Darion, the lone survivor of the original gang, rebuilt it into the New Khans, who in turn were largely destroyed by the Chosen One. Finally, Papa Khan united the fragmented bands and led them to the Mojave in 2267, where they settled. The massacre at Bitter Springs establishes that at this point, the Khans include non-combatants in their group such as children and elders, and until the NCR occupation, Bitter Springs was their home.

I'm going to proceed on the assumption that we all agree that genocide is wrong and set aside the Khans for now, especially because they are a faction that is not immediately hostile to the player, in contrast to the Vipers, Jackals, and Fiends.

Despite their lore, the Vipers don't get anywhere near the development the Khans have and end up in the category of fodder for the player to indiscriminately kill, an act for which you can even gain karma. And this is what brings me to the point of the original post, which is... hey, what the fuck?

I understand from a game mechanics perspective that it's useful to have an unlimited supply of enemies that the player can slaughter for experience points. But, that necessarily dehumanizes the members of that group, which is extra fucked up when you consider that some of them, like the Vipers, are a distinct tribal group.

And even in the case of, say, the Fiends, who we are told are fueled only by bloodlust/dependence on chems and presumably lack any sort of identifiable cultural allegiance, I don't like that it's considered morally good to just kill them all. They're still people.

I would like, especially from a role-playing game, to have more options to talk them down, to get them help for their addictions, and attempt to reintegrate them into society. Maybe that doesn't work on every character, maybe some of them really do just revel in violence and bloodshed and don't want a way out, but I'd like more recognition that raiders aren't a monolith and don't exist in a vacuum, that these are individuals who were driven to where they are by myriad circumstances and an underlying need to survive. It's more realistic and more interesting.

The way the Khans are developed has plenty of problems, certainly, but I appreciate that there was at least some development of who these people are and how they got to be where they are, and I think that's something that's lacking with a lot of the others.
