Aether chittered excitedly to himself as he made his way to Copia’s room. He had received a text from the older man telling him to come to his room for a special surprise. The words “Special surprise” was all he needed to see before he made a mad dash for his room. 

Surprises from Copia always resulted in the two of them having a wonderful time together. There was one time Copia surprised him by lounging on his bed wearing rat themed lingerie and Aether adored it after having a laughing fit when he first saw it. Another time, Copia surprised him with a date in the nearby town and they had a nice long romantic night out together. Aether could only imagine what his beloved Papa had in store for him, especially since it was their first Valentine’s together.

The sweet smell of roses was strong in the air as Aether approached Copia’s closed door. Never before had roses smelled so strong like this before. What was Copia planning for him?

Aether knocked on the door while smoothing back his hair and wagging his tail excitedly. 

“Who is it?” Copia’s voice chimed.

“It’s me, C,” Aether replied.

“Ah, come on in, mio caro.”

Aether smiled and opened the door. 

A mini avalanche of red roses and rose petals spilled out from the door and into the hallway to Aether’s surprise. He chirped, his eyes wide as he looked into the dimly lit room. There were roses and rose petals everywhere, covering nearly everything from Copia’s tv to his rat cage. Aether’s attention quickly went to Copia who laid half buried by rose petals on his bed, a sheepish smile on his lips. The roses conveniently hid his lower half as he laid naked amongst the roses. The more Aether looked, the more it looked like Copia was going to be swallowed up by the roses

“Surprise, amore,” Copia crowed.

“Holy shit…This is more roses than I’ve ever seen in my life,” Aether said, still taking everything in with wide eyes. 

“Do you like it? Mountain helped me with preparing all of this for you,” Copia replied.

The smell was so strong, but at least it was pleasant. Aether chuckled softly and trudged his way through the roses until he made it to the bed. He sat down and the roses seemed to suck him in. 

“I love it, Copia,” he said, patting his lap with a rumbling purr.

Copia shifted and the roses covering him moved away to reveal that he was wearing rose printed boxers. Adorable. 

“It’s quite romantic, yes? I wanted our first Valentines together to be special,” the older man said while sitting in his lap, his arms wrapped around his neck. 

Aether would have been fine with anything as long as he was with his beloved, but this was quite a surprise. Never before had anyone surprised him with something like this. Sure, his packmates would give him nice gifts or take him out, but this was different and it made him love his human all the more now.

“You did so well, Papa. Thank you,” he said before pulling him into a kiss.
