There's discourse on tokutwitter recently cuz of people referring to Kingohger as 'Japanese Power Pangers' (apparently a post about Kingohger went a bit viral on Reddit or something idk) and like i got thoughts about calling Super Sentai (and tokusatsu) in general 'Japanese Power Rangers'

My thoughts are simple: I really don't care if non-fans call it 'Japanese Power Rangers' and I'll gladly call it that in order to explain to someone what this stuff is.

Toku is still fairly niche in the English-speaking community and non-fans are going to call all the various henshin heroes 'Japanese Power Rangers' because Power Rangers is what they know and they're not going to understand what the hell you're talking about if you immediately jump in with all the different franchise and series names and stuff like that.

Of course, there are some people who will dismiss this stuff for being cheesy and low-budget irrespective of if they call it 'Japanese Power Rangers' or not, but I'm not talking about those people. Trying to discuss this stuff with those types is like talking to a brick wall. I'm talking about the people who might be curious about this stuff but don't know anything about it.

(Also if you seriously get mad over people calling toku 'Japanese Power Rangers', please grow the hell up and understand that this attitude will likely prevent people from giving tokusatsu a shot and possibly becoming fans of it.)
