Next few chapters of Witches and Slayers are really the emotional heart of the work:

And it's why i came up with both the character of Pandora and the WMD elements surrounding Willow's powers here. Willow is unambiguously a good person with a dark and sadistic streak like her character in the original show. Pandora has very similar powers and trauma but took them to the point of becoming a fascist aspiring to be the Master of Mankind.

Their confrontations in the Security Zone are a very direct dialogue between a fascist who's desperate to convince her good twin that she's right, because if she had the chance to chose rather than her ideology being destiny then a part of her knows she's an evil person and she turns murderously enraged rather than admit even the prospect of this. Willow in her diaries equally engages in very direct, unsubtle anti-fascist rhetoric of the kind that would have needed to be spoken no matter what but still moreso now.

Besides, as I wrote in the author's note for that chapter, hanged for a sheep instead of a lamb if they get you anyway.

Stories matter, the morals of stories matter. Malloy and Pandora are just my take on the canon Pandora project, which already had a fascist USA locking up literal demons in a concentration camp going on witch hunts. If the canon already went to Imperium of Man territory I'm just dropping a bit of what little subtlety it had. But they are also a take of a fascist who unlike reality lost his election, seized power by force, and is plunged in short order into a brutal civil war that brings massive chaos and finishes a destabilization of the world order that was already well advanced.

The very worst happened, a dark mirror of older values stands in absolute power over one of the heroes, in one of the darkest circumstances. The Fascist against the Orthodox Jew, twin faces of modernity and twin dialogues of the deaf, so to speak. But in the end, fascism loses.

In the end, its strength is weakness and hollow. This is a very, very modest, minor thing, but it is in the small things, in not yielding to fear or to the lies of the worst people who want the worst things, that we retain our own integrity and stand against the collective evils of the human soul.

Google prueba la IA del periodismo

Google está probando un producto periodístico impulsado por IA y presentándolo a las principales organizaciones de noticias, informó el jueves el New York Times, citando tres fuentes cercanas al asunto. El Times fue supuestamente uno de los medios contactados por Google.

Conocida internamente como Genesis, la herramienta es capaz de generar noticias basadas en las entradas de los usuarios: detalles de eventos actuales como quién, qué, dónde o cuándo, dijeron las fuentes. La compañía supuestamente lo ve como «tecnología responsable», un término medio para las organizaciones de noticias que no están interesadas en reemplazar a su personal humano con IA generativa.

Además del factor de fluencia (dos ejecutivos que vieron el lanzamiento de Google lo llamaron «inquietante»), el enfoque mecanizado de Genesis para contar historias afectó a algunos periodistas de la manera equivocada. Dos personas con información privilegiada le dijeron al Times que parece dar por sentado el talento requerido para producir noticias que no solo sean precisas sino que estén bien escritas.

Una portavoz de Google insistió en que Genesis «no tenía la intención de … reemplazar el papel esencial que tienen los periodistas en informar, crear y verificar sus artículos», pero en su lugar podría ofrecer opciones para titulares y otros estilos de escritura.

BuzzFeed pasó de usar IA para generar cuestionarios personalizados a producir docenas de piezas de viaje formuladas para anunciar que todo el contenido sería generado por IA en menos de seis meses, a pesar de prometer a sus escritores en enero que sus trabajos eran seguros.

Hmm... My friend told me that Eins and Ernst’s relationship reminds her of Jack and Oswald from Pandora Hearts. I think I can see why.

- In PH, Oswald is introduced like an evil villain of the story. Destroying everything that interfere him. Same with Eins. We don’t know what is he thinking. He also don’t say that much... If only we can get a story from Eins’ perspective! Maybe we can find out what is the real him? In the end, Oswald’s character is more close to Prince Kai character. SO I really hope Eins is actually a good guy and has valid reason why he’s so indifferent to his younger siblings and father. - As for the other one, Jack and Ernst are both playing the supporting role for the stern and leader-like character. Jack is Oswald’s best friend and Ernst is Eins’ most trusted high steward. They are both considered as “outsider” that usually wear unwavering smile in front of their partner(guess let’s call them partner, yeah) Outsiders that can destror the order of things. Ernst is actually planning to ruin... uh, more like trying to give different paths for the 4 princes so that they don’t pursue the throne. And with that act, he’s obviously suspicious. I don’t think Eins knows what he’s doing? Same with Jack of Pandora Hearts. He acts like a supportive friend  that the only thing he can do is to be with him and listen with his troubles. But in reality, he’s actually started to ruin everything behind Oswald’s back. I don’t want to see Ernst and Eins to have a fight. But its one of the possible path so let’s be ready. Well, I don’t really know Ernst motivation for now... He’s one of the character in this series that I’m having a hard time to understand. I’m thinking if its possible that he’s not only playing the role of the 4 princes’ villain? like he got more bigger plan under his sleeves? Because as far I can see, Eins only listen to him. I wish Ernst is not really using him for something?  UGH This is killing me! I DONT WANT TO THINK ANYMORE XD But its really bugging me!

One thing I will also note with my fics is that I use both the Initiative and the Pandora Project more heavily than a lot of Buffy fics do:

This is 100% because it's a completely unsubtle reference to both current events and a way to take not one but two entirely valid canon potshots at aspects of another fandom I love by showing how much the stuff that's normal there is fucked up everywhere else. Both the Initiative and the Pandora Project are two separate bids at fascism targeting actual demonic inhuman entities.

I also tend to give Adam a somewhat larger role in some ways with greater charisma mainly because the canon character is insufferably boring, so one of my main takes on him as him as a self-deluded Nietzschean quasi-Paul Atreides who believes himself doomed to fail and indeed fails. The other is a shorter-lived very deliberate mirror to Spike and in an adaptation where Maggie Walsh remains the Big Bad and Adam only sides with the Scoobies for a relatively brief bit but of disproprortionate importance because he can see through mind-whammy (bad news for Glory, very unpleasant times for Dawn too, for that matter).

That aside, however, the bigger emphases are precisely on the kind of inhuman mentality displayed here and making the same point that 40K at least tries to, namely that fascism, even directed against the truly inhuman and dangerous, is innately self-destructive and doomed to fail. Canon comics just have Wise and the nameless Cheney-ish Veep building a concentration camp with nobody noticing or caring, in my own takes Malloy, who lacks a first name, has the first and middle names Nehemiah Scudder as a deliberate shoutout and is more than a little bit of a reference to Jake Featherston from Timeline-191.

That's because canon left the guy a blank slate and it's a case of setting him up as a very literal fascist who rides into power on the basis of 'very real demons actually exist, human supremacy rises against them' and it turns out that you can loose the demons of this kind of thing more easily than you can control them.

These are messages dealt with a sledgehammer but sometimes you absolutely have to do so, and it's where canon didn't quite manage to pull things off effectively with both of them. And since my works do tend to be more Willow-centric, for obvious reasons the Jewish woman has a lot of opinions on the fascists building concentration camps and doing experiments and to leave a complete absence of subtlety Willow's Judaism loops back to the same point made by Whedon with Xander's nightmares with those swastikas.
