you know, the stuff I went out and did while sick, when I was a Millennial child/teenager, always astounds me to look back on

and I'm not talking like "oh I'm mostly over this little bug so I'm going back to work with a mask on." no. I'm talking full-bore Invalid Hours, just trying to go about my normal life

I'm supposed to be helping facilitate a HISTORICAL BALL tonight. Something I ADORE doing and DESPERATELY WANT TO DO. and I'm probably going to call out because I have a minor cold

flashback to ten-year-old me who lied to my mother about feeling well enough to do paint-your-own-pottery with my friend Jenna when in fact I 100% had a fever, I didn't have the energy to paint most of my Fairy Sitting On The Moon statuette, and I threw up in the bathroom of the artsy shopping arcade halfway through

(she would not have let me do that if I hadn't lied, to be clear, and when I threw up there was an immediate "okay we're done; sorry Mrs. Jenna's Mom that my child probably gave your child malaria or whatever")

and while that level was not broadly encouraged there was very much a culture of like...give your kid Tylenol and send them to school anyway. especially in the south. my mom was considered overly cautious for keeping me out of school until I was fever-free. now, you could say this is a reflection of capitalism's requiring two incomes to support a child, and in many settings that's very true! however. this was among stay-at-home moms in a fairly wealthy county

watching the part of twd where everyone's getting sick is so weird after the pandemic. I'm like WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? at one point my whole family got covid and I avoided it by washing my hands all the time, hiding in my room, and wearing a mask. everyone's hugging and shit and it's frustrating as hell. this is how I felt when I was in class and a guy pulled down his mask to cough.

random q but how'd you get into toronto sports? like was it the leafs and then ur leafs moots ended up being jays fans too so you got into it? the other way around? or the loser narratives just compelled you or something else?

THE LOSER NARRATIVES FKLDSJFKLDSJFLSD. well that was part of it tbh. i was suuuper into f1 a couple years back and met @ mxgicdave/penaltyboxboxbox online through it and he actually nudged me toward am34 and the leafs bc i was looking for smth to do during f1's summer break (which was also hockey break but getting into a new thing takes a while).... i was 100% into 1634 and the sheldon/kyle narratives from the very beginning tbh, and the whole nature of the leafs like try try try again bc that's what it takes in hockey and so many people refuse to admit it, lmao. there is something romantic about it all... it was very easy to fall in love with them.

as for the jays, i kinda thought it'd be smart to just stick with toronto and get into their sports in case i ever get to go visit (or in the far off dream of relocation..).... i'll have lots of things i love to do/watch in a single place!! and yes, a lot of leafs mutuals are into the jays too and i wanted something to distract from the end of the hockey season approaching so i got into the jays last summer 😭😭😭 also. look at bo bichette. how can you resist....
