I've always been small.

I am short. And plump. Big eyes, small nose. The image of a puppy, there to be cuddled and taken care of.

Or to bully.

Since kindergarten I've been severely bullied for pretty much any reason: too short, too loud, too artsy, too nerd. Every facet of my personality was a mistake, every word out of my mouth was the reason for ridicule.

So I started becoming small even more.

Quiet, alone in my thoughts. Always with a book I could immerse in and vanish for a while or pen and paper to create my own fantasy to live in.

Always doing everything I could to please everyone, working to the bone to never disappoint expectations.

So, even my art became something expected from me. What can draw and write a cute, small, gnome of a girl? But of course watercolor pictures of fables and fairies, dragons and knights.

Cute, small things like me. And i like doing these things, don't get me wrong.

But it's becoming like a prison.

I can't do more than this. I want to do more than this. I thought I couldn't do anything more and suffered a lot about it.

But then I dreamt the giant.

He was out the window of a dark house I was in, not my own. He was dark, covered in hair and multiple, bright white eyes. I wasn't scared of it tho: I knew that, If I fed it, it wouldn't hurt me.

If I fed it. It wouldn't hurt me.

And I drew it. I drew the giant in a way I never drew anything else. With a harsh black pallpoint pen. Freehanding it instead of carefully tracing it before on pencil.

I loved that giant immediately.

And it opened something that was long closed inside me, like a heavy door covered in cobwebs.

My drawing teacher said to me: I like your usual drawings, but in this you are clearly more free. You should try to do more like this.

I think I will.

Maybe I'm not really that small, maybe

Maybe I can become a giant too.
