soft junhan thoughts 💭
· this guy loves loves loves getting his hair played with
· it's like, the perfect amount of physical touch for him
· because he doesn't normally like it, you find ways to be affectionate with him in ways he's okay and comfortable with, and just twirling your fingers in his hair, or braiding it, or gently scratching the nape of his neck with a massage is sooo calming and not too much
· and you get to watch him just melt in your hands out of relaxation 🥹😵💫
· ART PROJECTS
· there's always doodling around you two
· he's leaving a note for you on your night stand? there's a cute little happy face drawn next to it. you're killing time waiting for your coffee at a café? he's doodling a little flower for you on a napkin.
· and you leave him doodles back of course. sometimes you'll draw something that accompanies his original drawing, and these are his favorite because you made it together, even if it's just a silly looking cat playing in a field of silly looking, badly scribbled flowers.
· it's one of his favorite ways to communicate with you because it's like your own little language. none of the other members, not even your family, can hear the love in these doodles between you two (and you two only)
· he likes having special secrets and inside jokes with you for sure
· and sometimes when you're both hanging out, you'll draw together. one of the funnier moments is when you decide to draw portraits of one another, and the results... varied, but it was still fun
· nail polish. oh you know exactly what I'm gonna say
· you guys paint each other's nails, usually you're touching up his usual black polish but sometimes he lets you get creative :)
· on the other hand, you love watching his artist brain work and how he uses colors on your nails to create the perfect vibe. sometimes you end up with vibrant polish on every nail, and sometimes you get a very simple and muted color palette. either way you're happy with them because he did it for you :]
· i think junhan values not only creativity in a person, but also values the willingness to discuss things. he likes that you genuinely try to take interest and understand what he's explaining to you, because he's someone who thinks deeply on things and shares that curiosity with the people he loves because he wants to engage with them.
· you really enjoy when he gets passionate and explains things to you because 1) it's cute and 2) he genuinely has lots of interesting takes on things (looks at his bubble messages)
· he appreciates that you even challenge his thinking sometimes because his introvert mind is always in his own head, and having someone to yank him out of his own bias is super refreshing!!!
· he shows affection with acts of service so much (since physical touch and words of affirmation are not usually his thing). he cooks for you and will do the dishes AND take out the trash so you don't have to do a thing
· i also think that he's suchhh a secret admirer, like compared to ode who likes to make his love known, junhan is stealing glances at your cute face when you're focused and when you confront him about it he's like
· "yes i was🙂"
· "ooookay...and can i ask why?"
· "oh, i just thought you looked pretty?"
· and you snicker because that's usually something you would just tell your gf, but you don't care. you tell him "you're handsome!" and you can't stop yourself from giving him a little peck on the cheek, to which he starts cutely giggling back
· you and junhan are so very tender and patient with one another, listening and valuing one another's time, truly the perfect pair!!!
· he has a 4 cut photo of you two tacked above his desk, sometimes when he's writing lyrics he looks up for inspiration :)
· just admires and respects you so much🥺💖

I've not been feeling very motivated to draw recently. However, i still managed to do a quick doodle for Art Fright before the event ends! This was actually fairly fun to work on and kinda refreshing :)
Combined the prompt "howl" with the "dying embers" color palette :D

-Momentary Stain.-
Welcome Home x Artist!Reader
Words: 3,091
|Contains: Fluff.|
Synopsis: Your hobby is painting and resting. You have recently moved to a friendly neighborhood. You have managed to find a hiding place where you use your time to paint. Although… Maybe this hiding place is not so secret, since it has attracted another artist like you.
The green grass tickled your feet, you breathed calmly, your thoughts beyond on this spring afternoon. Your sketchbook being used for your creative mind once again. Despite the beautiful view you had, you were sitting on the ground, drawing with your trusty pencil. The shade of the tree was refreshing beside you. You slid your old pencil across your notebook, making doodles and shapes that to others would be described as abstract. But you were not ready to finish, as you imagined and then created.
This was your daily routine. Since you moved to a friendly neighborhood to have more time for yourself and take it easy. Your clothes were basic, in shades of beige, brown, white. And your old slippers, which were by your side now. Your legs were bent to support your notebook on them, your back, oddly enough, was not hurting at the moment. Since you were bent over.
This little piece of tranquility was your space of peace. You always visit this place when you need to clear your mind, a moment of serenity, or just rest and spend time doing something you like, like now. Some of your neighbors were… Very intense, very fond of doing energetic things. You unfortunately can't keep up with their pace, but fortunately, they are so kind that they decide to change the pace for you when you are there. None of them know much about you, since you are a person who takes things slowly. So you still don't know some of your neighbors in the neighborhood. But you were excited to meet them. You wouldn't say you were a shy person. You speak your mind when the moment is right. But you don't feel the need to talk sometimes. Just a nod of the head is enough of a message. It's hard for you to get angry about something, even if you're in a pressure situation, you still keep calm and think hard. And sometimes you think too much. Maybe you daydream sometimes, but that's why you paint, why you draw. You put everything you have in mind into painting form. A creative mind needs a specific space in art. Be it painting, writing, singing, playing. You take another deep breath as you remember reality, and then you breathe out contentedly, looking at your doodles around the yellowed paper. Feeling the breeze blowing through your still body. And then. You felt something. You felt something intense, maybe even entrancing. It was as if someone was watching you. And then you raised your head. Already knowing this feeling. You looked at the landscape in front of you and then a smile formed on your face, words came out of your mouth. "Ah, you found my hiding place." You heard light footsteps on the grass and then heard someone's voice answer you after seconds. A monotone voice. "That's good, because I was looking for you."
You raised your eyebrows and looked to the side, noticing the presence of Wally himself in person. You had heard about him in the neighborhood, it wasn't hard not to hear about the famous Wally Darling. Neighborhood friend, caring and talented. Helpful and polite. You had seen him before in the neighborhood, but since it was only a short time since you showed up, you couldn't even introduce yourself to him. Wally was holding two blank canvases under his arms, a paint palette in one hand with some saturated tones of paint, and some brushes. Well, he seemed to have a goal in mind. You looked at the puppet that had been staring at you for a while. "You-You were?" You asked quite curious. Wally hummed and continued. "Of course. Well, anyone would also be curious to find a new person who also has the same likings as you." He said with his eyes half-lidded, a calm smile on his face. The puppet pulled out a small easel and began to organize his things, then stopped what he was doing and looked at you, signaling to the floor next to you. You looked at him and smiled, suggesting that he could sit there. He soon continued his preparations. "It's a nice place, you have good taste in finding a place like this." You hummed looking forward, feeling the eyes of your new companion watching you. You chuckled lightly and sighed deeply, setting your notebook aside. "Well, anywhere is good, as long as it's outdoors." You stretched your legs and listened to the puppet next to you laugh monotonously. He wasn't ordinary in the slightest. "I prefer to be outdoors, too. You have a lot more options for painting." You nodded your head lightly and soon saw out of the corner of your eye Wally reach out to you something. You turned your head and saw a blank canvas being offered to you. You looked into the eyes of the puppet who explained. "I supposed we could paint together. It would be an ideal way to get to know each other, wouldn't it?" You looked deep into Wally's eyes, and sensed no lie in his words. He genuinely wanted to paint with you. Not just for the conversation, but for the companionship. You took the canvas. You smiled lightly at the man.
"But forgive me, I don't have another easel." The puppet left the items between the two of you, a brush for each, the paints for both of you, but only he had the stand for the canvas. You huffed lightly and smiled a crooked smile. "Don't worry." You quickly brought your legs together to your torso and placed the blank canvas resting on your legs. "I prefer it this way." You watched as Wally finally took his eyes off you and analyzed your posture, which was not the best. While his was quite straight. "If it's comfortable for you, then by all means, continue." You smiled with your eyes closed, liking that he simply accepted that. You turned sideways and observed the items your companion brought, the paints seemed to be just like yours that you usually use, though the pigments were stronger and more colorful. You picked up a brush and looked at it. It was clean, the white bristles unused. While Wally's brush was more worn by time. "So, what do you think we shall paint?" Wally began and you looked at him curiously, he took his eyes off you and pointed to the clearing just below you, aiming at a colorful spring tree. "How about that tree, if you prefer." He finished his sentence by looking at you. Yet you just frowned slightly, clearly something you didn't agree with. "Oh… Uh, I thought we were going to paint whatever our hearts told us." You said this without thinking, and when you saw Wally's expression form to a slightly confused one, you tried to form another better sentence explaining what you really like to paint. "Uh, sorry, it's just that I don't like to imitate reality, you know? I prefer to travel deep into my mind," You began to explain your point of view of your own art. "To understand what I feel, or like to feel. Close my eyes and just let the brush flow." You moved the brush as you said this. When you can organize your thoughts, it's as if you just understand yourself or make others understand you. And when you looked to the side, you saw the puppet's eyes on you. As if you had said something that made him look at you like that. Intense. An intense one of wonder. An intense of admiration. You looked at him for a few seconds and noticed the silence. Quickly breaking eye contact you widened your eyes and smiled awkwardly. "Or we could paint the tree too, no problem." "Gee, wow…" You listened beside you, you looked at Wally again and noticed him with a big smile on his face. "I've never seen that kind of perspective before. You have a quite marvelous point of view." You looked at him, not letting your smile grow hidden. Well, the comments of the others that he was a charmer were no lie. He really was good with words.
"Well, it's all done then." Wally clasped his own hands and cheerfully remarked. "Let's draw the non-existent." You couldn't hold back and laughed under your breath as you heard your companion's phrase. Wally kept a silly smile on his face. You shook your head about this particular situation. You looked at Wally and just continued. "Let's paint something we desire. It's easy, since there are several ways to do that." You opined and the man next to you nodded liking the idea. And then the session began. The two of you quietly began to make different drawings. Some sharp doodles and some softer ones. The two of you were in a comfortable silence until Wally broke it with a hum. You hummed back and watched the puppet next to you stop painting. "Is there a problem?" You asked looking at Wally, who turned his head sideways, and then to the other, and said with a hand under his chin. "It doesn't feel right." He said watching every detail of his drawing, making you look at him. "You don't have anything in mind, do you?" "A lot, actually, I don't know what to choose." Wally answered honestly, he observed his surroundings before looking at you, who gave your opinion. "Try to focus on what catches your interest for being different. By giving you a different feeling. Even if it's just a little." Wally watched you for a long period of time as you smiled trying to help him. The puppet soon had an idea and quickly grabbed the easel and pulled it a little to the side, making it out of your sight. You looked at him in wonder and turned your head slightly to the side. Seeing what the man was doing. "I have an idea. But no peeking." Wally said with his posture a little more confident. You smiled crookedly, happy to see the puppet thinking of what to do.
"Okay, I won't look." You confirmed by continuing with your smile. After this interaction, the two of you entered a comforting silence. With only the natural sounds around you, the leaves on the trees moved with the calm breeze. The birds sang and communicated. And then you stopped painting to listen to your surroundings, closing your eyes and listening to your breathing. You looked for another familiar sound but couldn't find it. When you opened your eyes, you found Wally watching you. You watched him for a few seconds and then broke eye contact, laughing lightly. "Sometimes I like to close my eyes and listen to things. Sorry if that was weird." You heard no response but saw out of the corner of your eye Wally duck his head to look into your eyes. Which worked, since you lifted your head to see him. "Ah. It's not weird at all. Allow me to tell you something I like to do too." Wally kept looking at you until you turned your head slightly to the side, curious. Wally half-lidded his eyes, as he watched you. "I do enjoy eye contact. It's not something common, some people even find it strange. So I understand if you don't like it." The puppet said calmly, not doubting his words one bit. You watched him, your eyebrows rising. Oh now that makes sense. "It's cute." You said without thinking and quickly widened your eyes and laughed embarrassed, but you didn't correct yourself, you just laughed at yourself for saying it out loud. The man next to you laughed along, but at his own monotonous pace. "Well," You began, coughing lightly to continue, you placed your hand on your chest, breathing calmly. "If we're sharing weirdness." You signaled with your hands in quotation marks when you mentioned weirdness. "Then I'll explain why I like to just listen to my surroundings." You closed your eyes and then listened to your deep breathing, continuing. "I like to listen to breathing. It's weird that phrase itself, but…" You tried once more to listen to the breathing of anyone else besides yourself there, but it was difficult. "It's nice to think about, though. You breathing brings life to you. It makes your heart beat." You opened your eyes and watched the puppet in front of you continue to stare at you. "I must admit, it is a beautiful thought." Wally's eyes were still half-lidded as he watched you, you chuckled under your breath and continued. "Maybe. And I don't say that to just anyone." You raised your hand and explained. "I only said it because you also share something in common with me." You joked in an orderly tone and the puppet next to you smiled broadly. Entering into the joke "I am flattered." Wally placed a hand in front of his chest. You laughed lightly and then lifted your brush and continued to paint, your mood lifted. "Let that be a little secret between you... and me." Wally added low after he started painting again. You listened, you just didn't comment. Letting your brush do its work again.
A cool breeze passed by you, you could notice that your painting partner was using a lot of neutral colors, which you found interesting, since you were using the most saturated colors. Despite having only one paint pallet, you were able to use it together. Letting the silence and concentration flow in the air. Comfortably, you sighed and looked at your work after a few hours had passed, almost finished. You and Wally talked at times, joking, getting to know each other, and even giving different opinions in some cases. Until he asked you what made you move into the neighborhood. "Well," you began, putting your paintbrush aside, satisfied with your painting. "Where I lived there were a lot of… materialistic opinions. I like living experiences, and being present to an organic place, like this," You signaled behind you, where the neighborhood was. "It makes me feel more comfortable and accepted." The puppet next to you hummed, understanding you. You looked at Wally after he had finished his painting and saw that he had put his brush down, also looking like he was finished. "You are very experienced in what you talk about. I am happy to know that you are a neighbor now." Wally watched you with that same look in his eyes. You smiled contentedly. "Well, I take it we've finished the paintings." You soon cut the silence, watching as Wally's expression changed from one of contentment to one of realization. He looked down at his own painting and nodded. You got down on your knees and sat on your legs, painting in hand. "What do you think?" You showed your still fresh painting to the puppet who took his eyes off you and observed your painting. After a few moments of silence, Wally raised his hands and looked at you, and you understood, giving him the painting to look at more closely. You had talent, that was for sure. The puppet observed every aspect of your painting. He could see what elements you wanted to show in this painting. He could see that some of the flaws there were on purpose. You had a very specific and beautiful trace to look at. Wally quickly took his eyes off the painting when he heard you laugh lightly. "Hah, you know what? You can keep it. As a gift from me to you, neighbor." Wally understood your comment, for he said nothing, just stared at the painting with a facination that made you smile silly. Wally noticed your action and not wanting to be left out, he signaled to the brush in your hands. "Oh well, keep that, then. As a thank you gift, from one neighbor to another." Wally watched your smile become more genuinely grateful. You were very pretty like that.
"Do you want to show your work or are you going to be mysterious?" You joked and watched your companion place his newest gift on the floor next to him. Wally removed his painting from the easel and turned to you. Seeing that the puppet was offering you the painting to look at. You took it, and when you looked closely you noticed something... Interesting.
You don't know if interesting was the right word. Since Wally's painting was a mixture of some very intense concepts. You could notice that the painting on top was in more neutral colors like beige, browns and whites. It was something softer, serene, beautiful.
You found the overpainting very peaceful. But you could notice what the original painting looked like underneath these soothing tones. Spirals. In strong shades of black with reds. It was… very… Specific. However, he changed later and made this art soothing and fragile.
You looked at the puppet who was very expectant, you smiled with droopy eyes, and honestly you encouraged him that it was beautiful and very original. His signature for this style was very distinctive. You liked it.
Returning the painting to its owner, you noticed the sky on the horizon, and how late it was getting. "Oh, time has passed quickly, I wasn't expecting that." You commented holding your new brush firmly. Wally looked at the horizon and you got up from the ground. Picking up your slippers in hand. You looked at Wally who stood up as well. Remarkable height was made between the two of you.
"Well, it was nice to get to know you better, Wally Darling." You extended your hand to the puppet next to you. The nominee nodded in agreement and shook your hand. "I say the same to you, (Name)."
You smiled pleased and asked the man if he would go along, offering to help carry the equipment. Wally denied this and said that he would be staying a while longer. You then bid him goodbye once more and began to walk down the small slope where you were standing. Walking barefoot in the cool grass.
The puppet looked at you from afar, watching your figure disappear after a few minutes. Wally turned back and watched the beautiful view for a few seconds. He began to whistle, organizing his things so that he would be ready to leave later. Not forgetting to take your sketchbook and your pencil.
You were a bit forgetful. This was rather amusing for him.
-OW OKAY OKAY, WHY DID I FOUND THIS ADORABLE? bruhh, i think i'm getting way too soft for this-

As far as the trademark comment goes…it’s not so much as a consistency, but all your different iterations and stories have different styles and tones: Quilt AU/Spirits Reborn have these gorgeous, storybook colors and vibes Sticky Note (fish) have these thick color palettes and designs Your doodles are chaotic and bursting with energy and Purple Delusions has this grungy feel (like the depression that soaks our protagonists) I don’t know if it’s a reflection of the sporadic energy you exude, but I don’t recall a artist having such distinct art shifts in their work. It’s refreshing to see someone not having their art style be wholly uniform.
I always considered it a really bad habit. When I think of an au or sumthin I lowkey assign it a pen and what coloring kinda matches it. Youre right tho thats its cause of how I think. My brain imagines these aus in mainly two ways.
Story book or movie.

Link n Zelda (n some guy-) doodles!!
My friend got me these colored pencils w many colors checkered all in one lead and
It's the most fun thing
.. until the refining stage where you gotta rotisserie chicken the pen to try to get the color you need hhr BUT ITS STILL FUN
I usually stick to analogous color palettes without meaning to, so this random blend of colors are so refreshing to play with and then further test myself to refine the sketches 💪💪

Art Positivity post
Sort of? This is just a comparison thing because I started feeling embarrassed about my art and I think that’s cringe so if this’ll cheer anyone else up too, I’m posting it lmao
2017-2019
And I’m not showing the rest of what’s in this sketchbook cause it’s mostly just face doodles of whichever Servants I liked/whatever BNHA nonsense I was into LMAOOOO

Improvement can take a long time, but it’ll happen! It’s a slow, annoyng, and tedious process? But the end results? IMMACULATE! Don’t get too frustrated when a piece isn’t looking the way you want it to. Just take a deep breath, take a nap to refresh your brain, and go at it again. You can do it, especially now in an era where you can find references, color palettes, and tutorials all around! You can do it! I believe in you! Your art is doing great!

JUST HAD A REALISATION(S)
1 no wonder catra and angel dust are both that relatable, that song works on both:
Angel dust with Val
Catra with SW
2 funny how this is done on mother s day knowing catra s lore
So for everyone struggling today, please know you deserve love, you re not alone and its valid❤️🩹🫂
3 it was soo interesting to work on hazbin hotel style, you know i like sharp linessss🤗🥹🤝🤭 but the proportion here were so new to work on💖💖
4 that the advantage of just shading with black. I can change colors underneath
5 that was totally unplanned and... wow it s actually so refreshing to draw for myself for once. Not for a last minute event. Not for someone. No due date. No expectation. Just a silly idea i wanted to try.
I know I have urgent wips (spop big bang event✨️✨️ etcc) and important hw but having cool "chillax" doodles in between helps, especially when i m blocked on the others.
At least i feel i m doing/drawing something.
Ig thats why i have sm wips all together, when i art block on one, i can still progress on another and feel productive.
If one s lineart feels too hard, there s one waiting for coloring i can do.
Oh and ofc what is rendering anwwwwww
Just what i said, it feels good to just color without overthinking shadowing for once.
And⁴⁵⁶⁷ what are backgrounds anwww?? Why was it hard finding a pic from the show with no one sitting on that throne when i know such pics exist (pls if u found them, pls send me) like i vividly remember shera s creator posimg next to it but i cant find THAT pic
And ofc, ofc i notice only now i forgot catra s catail and cat ears😭😭🤡
Btw there s 2 cause there s one i was coloring from my head without checking catra s real color palette
Ohh live, laugh, love long description✨️✨️✨️one post, sm subjects🫶✨️🤝

The One with the Smart Design System
It’s been 20 years since the lights went off in Monica’s apartment and Friends came to an end. The concept, the talent and chemistry of the cast, not to mention the brilliant script writing, have attracted a legion of new fans to a show that the top TV networks still fight over.
However, as tempting as it is to write about Rachel’s haircuts or the comedic genius of the late, great Matthew Perry, I want to focus on an aspect of the show that gets less attention but is highly relevant to our industry. DISTINCTIVE ASSETS.
Now before you accuse me of being a tragic Byron Sharp tribute act, my musings are more concerned with how we can look beyond our day job for some practical inspiration, rather than trying to impersonate the legendary Professor (Sharp, not Geller).
But why Friends you might ask? Well, what better place to go looking for inspiration than a show famed for developing and deploying assets that didn’t just operate as separate entities, but as members of a carefully considered design system. Spoiler alert, do this and your brand is far more likely to grow.
Of course, there are many elements to explore, but in the interests of brevity, I’ve selected what I believe to be the most influential.
Element 1 – Costume Design
Just like their familiar catch phrases, when it came to the costume design, it was important that each character stood out on their own, but also complemented each other. So, designer Debra McGuire assigned each character a colour palette in season one. For the girls, Rachel typically wore greens and blues, Monica stuck to black, white, grey, and burgundy, and Phoebe got brighter colours and floral palettes.
As for the guys, Chandler's clothes were often vintage and racing stripe shirts, Joey's signature style was "defined by texture," and Ross, because he was a professor, "dressed appropriately," according to McGuire.
Element 2 – The Set
It’s no coincidence that Monica’s apartment and Central Perk live so vividly in our minds. Both provided the perfect canvas for the visual identities of each character to become established, whilst also giving the show itself a distinctive aesthetic. My old CSO at Ogilvy, Kev Chesters always stressed that a brand ‘owning’ something like a colour was “laughable, hubristic, utterly delusional & over-ambitious”. He argued that the best course of action was “to just claim it, and then once you spend enough time telling and showing the world that you are the one who is associated with it, then anyone else can’t be.”
As luck would have it, this is exactly what Production Designer John Shaffner did with the colour purple. As well as enhancing each character’s wardrobe, his rationale for Monica’s apartment wall colour was simple: "When you switched to 'Friends,' you saw that it is purple, and you stayed tuned." Furthermore, it helped other design flourishes to become distinctive assets, most notably the iconic golden frame that hangs on the apartment door.
The orange sofa in the coffee house is another example of using colour effectively. Found in the basement of Warner Bros studios, it literally serves as an emotive piece of brand furniture and is proof that you don’t need to unceremoniously dump as many brand signifiers as you can find, to secure attribution. In fact, the lesson here is the exact opposite. Namely, if you want an asset to become distinctive, give it room to breathe and think about its relationship with the environment it exists in.
Element 3 – Easter Eggs
Like any brand at the top of their game, Friends is a brilliant example of refreshing and building memory structures. Importantly, this was never at the expense of having some fun and driving visual intrigue amongst their audience. Take for example, the Magna Doodle on Joey’s apartment door. Fans became obsessed with the drawings and messages that changed subtly in every episode, and even started looking for hidden meanings.
Similarly, only the most eagle-eyed fans will have noticed that the colourful dots in the F.R.I.E.N.D.S logo have a hidden meaning. In case you didn’t know, each dot represents the main characters in the show. There are six dots for six friends and if you pay attention at the beginning of the opening theme, you will notice that each character holds an umbrella that corresponds to the colour of the dots. The likes of Aldi (think Cuthbert the Caterpillar getting arrested in their Christmas ad a couple of years ago), are expert practitioners of this approach, and it’s something I’d love to see more of in our industry.
Are little details like this why Friends is watched by millions across the world? Of course not, but they add personality to the design system and enhance the viewing experience for those who want to engage with the show on a deeper level.
A quick word count check has revealed that this article is in danger of turning into 18 pages (front and back), if I’m not careful. So, now’s probably a good time to sign off.
If nothing else, I hope it’s underlined the fact that there’s more to building a design system than painting every object in the brand’s primary colour or slapping the logo on screen throughout a telly ad. Recognising that each asset is only as strong as the other elements of that system, is essential in understanding how brands grow. Evidently, the team behind the world’s most famous sitcom got the memo.

You got any adivce for someone who's considering dropping drawing completely since they don't like what they're making at all?
honestly i've been in the same struggle recently bc it just hasn't been a good year for me. i haven't been drawing a lot bc most of the time i'm either sick or i just.. can't. I've been picking myself up as of late and it's a really difficult grind, but honestly the fact i've been able to actually start this grind is already good for now. I guess that counts as advice; be patient with yourself. Self-esteem doesn't come easy and the little steps are worth so much more than you think.
ok so uh,
-if you just started, don't think about it too much. we all start with the weird scribbles. if you stop now you might never get back to it -if you've been trying to doodle often and always end up hating the result, just take a break. art block is seasoning for burnout and you might just be tired. a lot of times i've felt bad about my art i kinda "gave up" for a while and when i came back to it it was like "wtf this easy what was my issue (it was burnout)". so take a break, play some videogames or hang out with your friends for a week. idk write essays about the media you like? it feels like you're being unproductive but resting IS part of productive because just pushing yourself will just result in nothing being done at the end of the day. -look at your favorite work! im not quite out of my latest artblock yet because its a tough one(it's been teaming up with depression caused by health problems it suuuuucks :/), but when i went long enough without being able to draw I kinda started feeling like I can't do shit and can't call myself an illustrator at all specially bc what i do isnt that big of a deal compared to others(<- comparison also big mistake remember youre the only one who can make YOUR art), going through my folders and seeing the stuff I like the most gave me a LOT of motivation to keep going, even if I was still unable to start drawing right away. not giving up is so important. -so yeah love your art. focus on drawing things you like because it's a gift from you to you, and you should treat it as such. i know it's really hard to be positive about it all the time but it can be really good to go through all your artwork at the end of a day and look at the things you like about it, even if it isn't much. -on that note, find something you really like drawing!!! back in high school i had massive periods of depression that kept me from drawing but i occasionally found sort of a 'life hack' for myself which were things i was always able to work with even during the worst times. one of them was just.. bees. i just doodled random characters as these bees and made og designs too and it was fun. the other one was using colored pencils instead of a regular one bc i just like colors and it made me happy :] it didnt matter that they always had the same overall shape or if i couldnt erase when i messed up, i was just feeling good being able to draw something that i liked. -experiment more!! expand your palettes and download some new brushes. i even change from my newest to my old busted tablet that still sorta works occasionally because using a tool that feels different is.. refreshing somehow? idk -when you need to get yourself back up, do the little steps at your own pace. do a little doodle every day. it's okay if it's always the same thing. the same character. the exact same idea. it's okay if it sucks or if it's unfinished because you struggled. Just give it little pushes. What matters is to try. and it's okay if you can't do it every day. maybe every other day if you need a slower pace. -and remember. engagement doesn't measure your skill. art is subjective anyways!!!!! i spent YEARS doodling and posting only my ocs and getting little to no notes. i think one of my favorite artworks from the time i had ~100 followers had like 0 notes for the longest time. to be honest i don't even know if it has any likes at all nowadays i'd have to look it up bc it's a bit buried

So after 8 hours of very enjoyable doodling I did 12 of the skins that were there 8 hours ago
The skins of @ethoslut @chambers003 @urpalross @hermitshell @setacin @thatreallyextrakid @fence-time @basil-the-bulbasaur @amberqueen01 @milo-media @dellohii @cattobee
This was a real palette cleanser and very refreshing
i think it would be such a fun little bit for hermitblr bit for folks to pass around their minecraft skins without any other design context and let people make up designs (as hermitblr artists do) to see how other people interpret it

hi majora! your art is really cute, and I hope you don't mind if I ask about your process? I'm new to art and yours is an inspiration! I wanted to ask how you learned? and your process, because you seem to draw near daily! also any tips you might have for me? thank you!
HI ANON!!! ur very sweet thank u so much WAHH <33!!! idm being asked abt that at all!!
in terms of how i learnt; i've kinda always been drawing for as long as i can remember? been posting art online since around 2013-ish so i got a big big catalogue of stuff to look back on
but learning in specifics of like, how i learned to shade n draw bodies etc etc. i studied! theres a lot of resources out there that'll break down a lot of the 'basics', i dont have any i can name off the top of my head except for morpho; whole bunch of books about body types and anatomy.
im not really good at providing tips for how to learn (bad memory </3) but studying, drawing things over and over (i do with reference and then without, and try to draw in different angles/perspectives) is very useful!
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT: literally do not worry at all if what you draw the first time around looks wonky or "ugly". being negative towards yourself about your art only serves to stunt ur growth!! shakes you (and anyone reading this) by the shoulders. it can be very easy to slip into hating your art and not enjoying anything ur drawing. this is me telling u to try and draw something youve never drawn before. experiment. it may not look perfect or even "good" but it will refresh ur brain!!!!!
MY PROCESS...... oh man i really have been drawing pretty much daily huh? i do draw every day but its been a hot minute since ive been doing finished pieces haha
but basically what i do is; start with a few warm-up doodles! just anything to get me in the groove
then over the course of the day i slowly chip away at whatever pieces im working on (lined stuff will usually take me a few hours, rendered stuff takes a day or a few....)
i cannot really assist in like "so how do you draw?" because i honestly just go Lights Off Its Drawin Time! but i always do a rough sketch of an idea i have, refine the sketch, refine that sketch, and then if its rendered i'll make a palette for myself somewhere, but if its lined i'll start on the lineart and then fiddle around with colours.
i draw for fun, so if i dont like how somethings turning out, i'll stop drawing it. no use frustrating myself over a piece to the point of hating it!!
(this ones just forfun and just for me) i keep a small little doc full of notes about my own pieces! i like analysing stuff, and also enjoy talking about why i draw something in a specific way, so this is just a nice little thing for me to have fun with. also helps me avoid potentially slipping into "hate this. bad" mindset bc im specifically noting things that i Liked (i do obviously have a bit of chatter like "hmm i think i couldve drawn this better, i should keep that in mind" but its only when its helping myself. the jora does not talk bad about its art)
aaand then i do some cool-downs to get any last little doodles outta my head so i can relax in bed
in terms of tips? do stretches, walk around, TAKE BREAKS! draw at your own pace, and also Have Fun With It. experiment with different colours, limited palettes, different styles!
seriously though do make sure you take breaks and stretch im lookin you in the eye okay?
I HOPE THIS MADE SENSE AND IS HELPFUL IN A WAY i ramble. far too much. and im not the best at articulating my thoughts!! but i hope u have lots of fun drawing very cool stuff <333
#asks#very long ramble my baddddd i love yapping#also i am Entirely self taught so i might do things in a weird way#but to me its important to have fun with drawing#i avoid burning out by experimenting with new stuff and swapping my art program btw i think thats a nice lil thing to tack on#jora art explaining

Gallery Strolls are Summer Pleasures Again
AUTHOR: ARTSY CHOW ROAMER
GALLERY STROLLS
ARE SUMMER PLEASUREs AGAIN
For over twenty years now, Thomas Deans Fine Art has been presenting his annual rotating summer exhibition called Summer Pleasures. The contemporary gallery is located on Miami Circle and normally hangs a diversity of work ranging from the serious to the whimsical.
Opening on June 21st, the show will run through August 31st exhibiting artists long-established while featuring emerging talent and new artists to the gallery. Genres range from realism to abstraction and conceptualism in the works and this year’s show is happening again in conjunction with a limited series of gallery stroll events.
Sponsored in part by Livable Buckhead, all the galleries on the street (over a dozen) are open later than usual on some Saturday evenings offering light refreshments and lots of wonderful things on view from local to international works of art. One of these events will be on July 20th from 4:00 to 6:00, where Thomas Deans will host a reception with featured artists present to meet, greet and tour the gallery. This post we’ll take a look at some of the artists you will see in the show.

JENI STALLINGS
A native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Jeni Stallings graduated from the Memphis College of Art. Her paintings are a feminine version of surrealism that recalls her own dreams and personal experiences. She works using an ancient version of encaustic; heating the beeswax to coat the paintings surface creating a muted dreamy effect on the finish. She refers to herself as a storyteller.
Art critic, Felicia Feaster, wrote “her paintings draw from a lexicon melding dreamwork with a touch of Southern eccentricity which describes them perfectly. While many see the muted, feminine-infused works as lyrical, I find them both intriguing and always fun; enjoying the way the paintings tell the story of Jeni’s dreams and memories when hung together as a body.
SCOTT FRENCH
Born in Atlanta, artist Scott French started traveling around the country at fourteen in jazz bands playing from New Orleans to Detroit. In between sets, he began to doodle and draw the nightlife and cities he visited exposing a range of characters and human emotions that were unfolding every night around him.
He returned to his hometown after eight years on the road to enroll in drawing and painting at Georgia State University along with an internship as an assistant to sculptor Martin Dawe. Artist in residence at the time, Scott would learn a lot about human anatomy in three dimensions from Marty making the time well-spent when he turned back to his own work with a stint at Portfolio Center.
Known for the strength and sensitivity he applies to his wide-open-spaces landscapes, no matter how big or small, I think Scott really shines at his studies of everyday objects and nudes. They have a sense of intimacy and a free rendering hand that I like to think recall those days of doodling on cocktail napkins in dark rooms that smelled of whiskey and cigarettes while a saxophone played sexy tunes. This series of different drinks is typical of his style and coloring creating “lasting interpretations of what he experiences and sees”.
MARY PARKMAN
Floridian artist, Mary Parkman, is an abstract and figurative painter whose work is varied in technique and content. A Cornell graduate with study in abstract expressionism at two prestigious schools in Manhattan and Umbria, Italy, she first began representational painting in the plein aire style.
Over time, her work has become increasingly more abstract focusing on the paint and the pure process of the work. The paintings are inspired by nature utilizing colorful palettes and expressive paint strokes with a definite soft feminism in the presentation built through layering and by both pushing and pulling the paint. This lets the viewer see what the artist sees and feels with Mary never feeling it is finished, she simply has to stop painting.
PAUL TAMANIAN
Surf’s up where surfboards become sculpture with the fun colorful pieces of artist, Paul Tamanian. Born in New York but living in North Florida since he graduated from Florida State University, Paul started his career in design. A casual class in pottery at a community college kicked off an interest that turned into a passion. He moved into aluminum panels experimenting with his techniques for technical innovations that mixed different media with automotive paints.
Paul’s background gives him a lovely sense of color theory. The slick shiny auto finish pops them out even more vividly. While his subject matter tends to be abstract in nature he also designs beautiful realistic pieces. Free standing sculptures as well as those that hang can be used both indoors and outdoors with the finish he provides. His surfboards will be sold with a stand or wall-mount hardware for options on display.
LINDA HENNINGSON
Native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canadian artist Linda Henningson graduated from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2006. Most recently, she has introduced recognizable objects in the form of flowers and vases into her work which accentuate both color and pattern in the representational styling.
The paintings have a lovely interior design-like feel to them as they embrace the pattern-on-pattern approach to the details of wallpapers, table textures and vase designs which make them a perfect accessory to finished spaces. National television shows have purchased her pieces for shows such as Home & Garden TV’s Income Property and CTV’s The Marilyn Denis Show.
DANIEL BYRD
I have always referred to Daniel Byrd as the Buckhead boy with the street art vibe. A Savannah College of Art and Design graduate, Daniel was born and raised in Atlanta and has always been enamored with the city’s energy. His bold mark-making style speaks to 3D visuals in two-dimension with negative spaces and optical illusions that harken back to the best stylings of more famous graffiti artists.
Byrd builds his images in a layering process, creating intricate woven patterns in vivid colors with subtle textures and patterns mixed in. He acknowledges this process is a human trait; a way of “making something in order to see what lies beyond it”. A celebration of innovation, evolution and/or progression if you will. His finished pieces imply a sense of infinity and that is what drives his creativity.
CONCLUSION
Along with the artists listed above, an international group of artists will be featured along with American artists. Work by Tennessee artist Greg Decker, North Carolina artist Marlise Newman, California artists Sharon Pastor and Elaine Coombs, New Yorkers Tracey Burtz and Thaddeus Radell will hang alongside works by Australian Callum Francis and Belgian Mathieu Weemaels. Artists representing Atlanta and North Georgia include Ana Guzman, Evan Jones, Carl Linstrum, Brent Baker, David Kidd, Elise Thomason, Gwen Wong, Eileen Braun, Lauren Betty and Steve Steinman, among others. Two Atlanta guest artists will present work: Christopher Hickey and Roxanne Hollosi.
youtube
Thomas Deans Fine Art was established in 1983 and specializes in contemporary paintings, works on paper, and selected photography. He has a good eye for hanging a show preferring to mix artists, letting the colors and subject matters play a sort of song as you move through the gallery. I always make sure I get to this exhibit every year. The successful joining of old and new artists and the mix of price points make it a must on any collectors list.
If you enjoyed what you read, you might also like other posts under Artful Ideal. You can find other artists that I really love and you might want to add to your own collection. Until next time…
