Painters in Dublin: How to Find the Best People to Paint Your House
Painting your home can be a daunting task. There are so many different options out there, and each person has their own idea about the look they want to achieve. The best way to find painters in Dublin who will help you achieve that vision is by following a process. This process would cover coming up with a shortlist and continue until you’re able to make your final choice. Here are some tips for finding the best painter in Dublin for your needs.
Ask Your Family and Friends for Recommendations
Tumblr media
The first step to finding the best painter for your home is asking for recommendations. You may have friends or family members who have used painters in the past, and if you do, ask them what they thought of their experience. If you don’t have anyone to ask, you can check with your neighbours or with your homeowners association. They may be able to refer you to some professional painters in Dublin.
Check Online Reviews for Painters in Dublin
You can find a painting company that has a great reputation by doing some research. You always want to make sure that the company you hire is qualified and highly recommended by previous customers. There are many websites where people can leave reviews about their experiences with local businesses. It’s important for you to check if your painting firm has any online reviews or not. If it does, then you should read through them carefully and see what others have said about their work and service quality.
If someone says something negative about the painting company, then don’t worry too much since this can happen from time-to-time even with the best of companies. However, if there are too many negative reviews, then it would be best to look for other choices. If there are no reviews at all on any website or in social media sites like Facebook, Twitter etc., then this could be an indication that they’re not very popular among consumers either because they’re new or simply because there isn’t much demand for their services yet. If this is the case, it’s highly probable that they lack experience.
Check Their Portfolio
If you’re looking for a painter, it helps to check out their portfolio. A good painting company will have an extensive portfolio and be able to show the quality of their work. When looking through portfolios, look for a variety of styles used in each piece of work. This can tell you whether the painter is versatile and willing to do different types of projects, such as interior and exterior painting. Some professional painters specialise in specific areas like high ceilings.
Their portfolio will definitely show if the painter cares about doing quality work. The best thing about checking out portfolios is that you’ll get an idea of how much attention to detail goes into every job done by these painters.
Make Sure the Painters Are From Dublin
If you’re looking for a painter in Dublin, make sure they are from the city and not from surrounding cities. The best painters will be familiar with Dublin and its neighbourhoods and buildings. They will know which paints work best based on the weather, climate and temperature in the city. Apart from that, they would also be familiar with the materials used to build houses in Dublin so they would know which types of paint should be used.
Request for Quotes
The last step is to request for quotes from your shortlisted painters. This way, you can check which one of them can provide the work within your budget. If there’s a particular painter you really want to hire but their quote is beyond your budget, try to negotiate for a lower price. The worst thing that can happen is for them to say no. At least you can say that you tried.
Overall, finding the best painters for your house can seem like a daunting task. But as long as you follow this step by step process, you’ll be able to find the best painter to work on your house.

Cost-Effective Cabinet Makeovers: All About Refinishing
Tumblr media
Giving your cabinets a fresh look doesn’t have to involve a full remodel. Refinishing is a cost-effective and transformative way to upgrade the appearance of your kitchen or bathroom cabinetry, without the hassle or expense of a complete replacement. With the right approach, refinished cabinets can make a room feel brand new, adding value and style while keeping costs in check. Here’s everything you need to know about cabinet refinishing.
Why Choose Refinishing?
Refinishing is an ideal solution for cabinets that are structurally sound but need an update. Rather than tearing out perfectly functional cabinets, cabinet refinishing Dublin focuses on renewing the surface. This process typically includes cleaning, sanding, and applying new paint or stain to give cabinets a fresh appearance. It’s an affordable option that delivers remarkable results, and it’s a sustainable choice, as it reduces waste by preserving existing materials.
Refinishing also allows for a wide range of style options. Homeowners can choose from a variety of colors and finishes to match new decor trends or personal taste, from sleek modern tones to warm, classic wood stains.
The Cabinet Refinishing Process
The refinishing process generally begins with a thorough cleaning of all surfaces to remove grease, dirt, and any old finishes. Once clean, the cabinet surfaces are lightly sanded to smooth out imperfections and to allow the new finish to adhere properly. This step can require precision and attention to detail, especially in areas that may have scratches or dents.
Next comes the application of primer, which prepares the surface for paint or stain. The choice between paint and stain will depend on the desired aesthetic: paint can give a sleek, modern look, while stain highlights the natural grain of the wood for a more traditional appearance. Professional painters in Dublin can help with this step to ensure an even, durable application that will stand up to daily use.
Once the primer is dry, the paint or stain is applied, often in multiple layers to achieve a smooth, even finish. For those interested in specific colors or styles, working with skilled painting contractors Dublin can make a significant difference in the final look. After the final coat, a clear sealant is often added for protection, enhancing durability and making the cabinets easier to clean.
The Perks of Professional Cabinet Refinishing
While DIY refinishing is possible, hiring professionals offers several advantages. Experienced contractors bring expertise in preparing surfaces, applying finishes evenly, and ensuring that the result is both durable and attractive. Professional refinishers also have access to high-quality materials and tools that can make a noticeable difference in the longevity and appearance of the cabinets. This expertise is especially useful for intricate or large cabinetry projects, where precision matters most.
Revitalize Your Space with Cabinet Refinishing
Refinishing is a smart, budget-friendly way to refresh cabinets and achieve a stylish, updated look. Whether your goal is a modern makeover or a return to a classic wood finish, refinishing can transform any kitchen or bathroom with impressive results.

How Much to Paint a 3-Bed House in Dublin?
If you’re a homeowner in Dublin, you might be wondering, “How much does it cost to paint a 3-bed house?” Whether you’re looking to refresh the interior or give the exterior a much-needed update, painting your home is an excellent way to add value and boost its appearance. But how much will it cost you? The price can vary depending on several factors, from the size of your house to the type of paint you choose. In this guide, we’ll break down the costs and give you an idea of what to expect when painting your 3-bedroom house in Dublin.
Factors That Influence the Cost to Paint a 3-Bed House in Dublin
Several factors can impact the total cost of painting your home, making it essential to understand what you’re paying for before you hire a professional.
Size of the House: Naturally, the size of your house plays a significant role in determining the cost. A typical 3-bedroom home in Dublin ranges from 80 to 120 square metres, and the total surface area to be painted will affect the amount of paint and labour needed.
Condition of the Walls: Are your walls in good condition, or do they need a lot of prep work? If there are cracks, peeling paint, or holes that need filling, the preparation process will increase the overall cost. The more work needed to prepare the walls, the higher the labour costs.
Type of Paint: The paint quality you choose will directly influence the cost. High-end paints with a glossy finish or specialist paints, like moisture-resistant options for kitchens and bathrooms, will be more expensive. A mid-range option might cost around €25 per litre, while premium brands could push the price to €40 or more per litre.
Interior vs. Exterior: If you’re planning to paint the exterior of your home as well, expect to pay more. Exterior painting generally requires more labour due to the preparation of outdoor surfaces, such as cleaning and priming walls. Additionally, exterior-grade paint tends to be more expensive than interior paint due to its durability against weather conditions.
Labour Costs in Dublin: Painters in Dublin typically charge between €200 and €300 per day, depending on their experience and the complexity of the job. Some painters charge based on the size of the room, with rates ranging from €300 to €600 per room, depending on the level of detail.
Additional Features: If you want to paint extras like ceilings, skirting boards, trims, or doors, these will add to the overall cost. Ceilings and trims often require different types of paint, which could slightly raise your expenses.
Cost Breakdown to Paint a 3-Bed House in Dublin
Tumblr media
To give you a clearer idea, let’s break down the typical costs of painting a 3-bedroom house in Dublin:
Interior Painting Costs: For the interior, you’ll be looking at an average cost of around €2,000 to €3,500 for a full paint job, depending on the size and number of rooms. This would typically cover the walls, ceilings, and trim in all rooms, including hallways.
Exterior Painting Costs: Painting the exterior of a 3-bedroom home can cost anywhere from €2,500 to €5,000. This cost takes into account the preparation work, such as power washing, scraping, and priming, as well as the paint itself. Dublin’s wet climate means exterior surfaces often need more durable paints, which can drive up the cost.
Labour Costs: Labour alone will likely account for 60-70% of the total cost. Given that the average painter in Dublin charges between €200 and €300 per day, you might spend around €1,000 to €2,100 on labour for an interior job that takes about 5-7 days.
How to Save Money When Painting Your 3-Bed House
There are several ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality when you paint a 3-bed house:
DIY vs. Hiring a Professional: While painting your home yourself can save you money upfront, it’s worth considering the time and effort involved. A professional will deliver a flawless finish much faster, and without the hassle of buying all the equipment yourself.
Choosing the Right Paint: Opting for high-quality paint might seem more expensive at first, but it will last longer and require fewer touch-ups. Cheaper paints often need more coats, which can end up costing more in the long run.
Preparing Your Home: One way to cut labour costs is by doing the prep work yourself. If you’re comfortable, you can clean, sand, or even prime the walls before the painter arrives. This can help shave a day or two off the project timeline, saving you money.
How Long Does It Take to Paint a 3-Bed House in Dublin?
The time it takes to paint a 3-bedroom house depends on the size and complexity of the job.
Time Frame for Professionals: On average, a professional team can complete an interior paint job on a 3-bedroom home in about 5 to 7 days. This includes preparation, priming, and multiple coats of paint.
DIY Time Frame: If you decide to take on the task yourself, be prepared for it to take a lot longer. Depending on your experience and availability, it could take anywhere from a week to several weeks to finish the job, especially if you’re balancing it with other commitments.
Final Considerations and Next Steps
When deciding how much to invest in painting your home, it’s important to balance quality with cost. While hiring a professional might seem expensive, the result is often worth the investment, especially when it comes to the durability and appearance of the final finish.
Getting Quotes: It’s a good idea to get at least three quotes from local painters in Dublin to compare prices and services. Be wary of quotes that are much lower than the average, as this could indicate lower-quality materials or workmanship.
Warranties and Guarantees: Some professional painters offer warranties to give you peace of mind in case of any issues after the job is done. Always ask for this information upfront.
In conclusion, painting a 3-bed house in Dublin can cost anywhere from €2,000 to €8,000, depending on whether you’re painting the interior, exterior, or both. By understanding the factors that affect these costs, you can make informed decisions and ensure your home looks its best for years to come.

Neal Greig at Gormleys
I also attended Neal Greig's opening at Gormleys, 27 Fredrick Street South, Dublin 2 D02 EP03 which was just as enjoyable. His exhibition of rugged and wild seascapes were full of energy and a pleasure to view. However, I loved his three paintings 'June River Butonne', 'Dream Lake' and 'Butonne River'. They were peaceful and, to my eye, evoked scenes of the Mangrove Swamps in and around Florida. Neal's show will run Until 29th Oct 2024.
