Spaceverse art!
Okay so I haven't decided exactly how I'm organizing these yet, but here's my first batch of the Spaceverse art posts! I've got a backlog of at least 205+ artworks to archive for this, so I had to get started somewhere. This is the original RP (and basis for my novel in progress) that I write with my friend Sakume, dating back some years now (maybe since 2019?) I don't have a title for the novel yet, so this is simply known as Spaceverse for now.
These characters originally came from some old forums we wrote on (circa 2006 at the start), and one day I came up with a new AU for them in a completely new space fantasy setting, with a new plot and new origins for the characters. I asked my friends Sakume and Cookie to participate, and this story was born. Cookie no longer actively writes in this RP with us, but some of their characters still show up in the art here and I'm very grateful for their contributions.
Sakume and I still write together and are adding new characters all the time! :) I grouped this batch of art to include sketches that mainly featured characters hailing from the planet of Illumina or the moon sanctuary of Nova Lux.
In order here we have: sketches of Cadenza, Altair/Vivace (her sister in the novel version, unrelated in the RP but may retcon, also Fabi/Alex's late mom and Anton's late wife), then Cadenza's daughter Luisa and a sketch of Cadenza in prison back on the Vault where it all started. Then we have Luisa and (spoiler!) young/child form Dawa, Cadenza with Adam, Adam himself, and then a bunch of sketches of their family together. Following that, we have Queen Venus (aka Elena), Cadenza's mom Sonya, Sonya with Leona, Xiulan, sketches of Cadenza and a masked Xiulan, Mingzhu, Joan (not an Illumin character but hey she ended up on my sketch page back then), older/adult form Dawa, young Dawa, Mingzhu, Cadenza's dad Galliard, Louis (another non-Illumin here to fit page space), Cadenza's sister Luminari, Cadenza herself, Lu with her husband Jaster, Simha (revamped character to replace Leona) and then Cascadia Riveria (Faer character, but happened to be on that sketchbook page.) Then lastly a few pencil sketches I missed, Xiulan, Mercy with Ramiro, Luminari and Cadenza, and some of my initial concept sketches of Spaceverse Cadenza and Luisa.
At the very end, we have some much older sketches that predate this RP, with Mother Carla, Ancient Ren of the Order, and Cadenza's late husband Paris (along with a sketch of Cadenza from a previous story where she was a human mage with shadow magic), previous versions of Vivace, Algretta, Luminari, Arietta, Cadenza, Sonya, Galliard, Reymundo, Izumi, Xiulan, Sarai (an angelo who hasn't appeared in the RP yet, but I might adapt to use her design for Damien's mom Dinah), Shui Ya of Nova Lux, and Fletcher (a Faer character, but he happened to be on this page.) I still need to draw many of these characters some new portraits as their phantasm selves in this storyverse/setting, but I'm saving these older drawings for reference.
Some characters are going to show up that don't quite fit into these groupings because I tend to just draw whoever I feel like on my paper that fits before scanning them in. x3 Sometimes I edit them after to reorganize, but often times not.
Adam and Jaster belong to Sakume, and Leona and Joan belong to Cookie. The rest of the characters belong to me, but big credit to both of my friends for their help developing the world, organizations and characters, particularly in this case, Cookie brainstorming the Order of Lux Aeterna/Nova Lux with me, and Sakume brainstorming so many of the Vault characters and more.
Also small side note: I've been using the surname "Madrigal" since 2006 for Cadenza and her family waaay back on Zelda Universe forums, but I'm super happy it's way more popular a name now thanks to Encanto and I do love that movie. The movie was in no way a basis for these names, but I love to see more Latin culture and names in media, so I'm all for it. ^_^

Frank and the Girl
There was a great beast that roamed the mountains and foothills. The villagers only spoke of it in hushed whispers, though all the children were taught its legend. On its back, they said, were great boles taken from the mountain trees and lashed together into a great platform. On the platform was laid a huge Stone, the size of a mountaintop which bore down mercilessly upon the wretched creature.
They called this great furry beast The Paineater, for it was said that any could lay their burden upon it and in turn be lightened. But still they were afraid of it. Some claimed the creature ate your pain and stole a section of your soul. Some told how the creature would eat all of you, only starting with your Stone. Others insisted that to look upon its great Stone was to see its life, all its pain and therefore to be struck dead. Still others claimed that only a truly monstrous beast was deserving of a Stone so big, such a large burden, and that such a nefarious creature was worth avoiding, just in case.
It so happened that one year The Paineater came down into the foothills, as it did from time to time, and skirted the lands of the villagers. As it approached a village the villagers would send out a representative to shoo the beast away. The representative would take all of the Stones of those who wished to loose their burden, and offer supplication before the shaggy beast.
In one particular village there had come to live and struggle a girl called Girl. She was the littlest, she had always been the littlest in her far away village, and in every village she'd been to. When she left her original home she'd taken her Stone, as was proper, and set out to see if any place in the world was better than where she was from.
She was a curious sort, and upon hearing of the beast started asking questions about where to find it so that she could see it herself. It was, of course forbidden by the village tradition, but she was fascinated by the tales. She wanted to see this beast and its mythical load. "No one could move a mountain!" said she, "It surely must be a man with an extra large Stone."
In her heart, though, the question echoed, 'Why would there be such a legend if it were only a man? A man would surely be a man and never a beast. So why the name and legend?' To these unvoiced, and unrecognised questions she had no answer.
So it was she found herself heading away from the town one day chasing down a rumor of its approach. She laid down foot after foot in a line over grassed rolling hills until she found herself standing in shock starting at an impossibility.
Over the rise of the next hill a massive Stone was approaching her, carried by some unknown agent. As whatever-it-was walked up the opposite slope, more and more of the Stone became apparent. It was immense! The surface was rough and pitted, irregular and porous. As if some great force had cracked and scarred the outside of the Stone.
It was clear that it might indeed be the size of the very tip, the very top of a mountain, but still far to small to see at a similar distance. It may have been big enough to set a table for four upon, provided one could make an even surface appear.
At last she saw what bore the Stone. There was a crudely fashioned wooden platform or frame carried by something, and Girl knew that this must be the Paineater. The beast itself had much resemblance to a man.
It had a head with a human-like face, though it was covered in hair and impossibly cracked or weathered. It had a neck, shoulders and chest; but of the wrong proportions. The chest was massive and heaved at the exertion. The arms were long and where they touched the Stone or its frame, interspersed irregularly along their length, they were flattened and broad . The neck was thick and kinked at an odd angle so that it could see where it was going as the huge Stone bore down above it. It had a torso, hips and legs. All up it was quite tall, but the torso was hunched over at a torturous angle making it seem shorter than it was. The legs were large stumps, short and thick as if someone had taken normal legs and squished them down.
The creature looked at Girl and changed course towards her. It struggled mightily up the last of the incline and came to a stop a few mighty strides away from her. Sweat ran in rivulets down its face - a face which showed the relief of exertion's end and the beginning of respite.
"Hello little one," it huffed. "Which village has sent you, and what is it that you want?" It stood there shifting slightly holding up the impossible weight.
"No one but I send me anywhere! I am not the agent of another. I have come to see the legend myself!" Declaimed Girl.
The giant blinked, looking slightly bemused, "Really? Am I a legend?"
"Well, yes. You are the monster that everyone around here has been talking about."
It wrinkled its nose. "I'm no monster, girl!" It paused before continuing, "What is your name?"
"I am Girl," replied Girl.
"What an uncommonly suitable name for a girl. I am Frank." He inclined his head by way of a small bow.
"What?" was all Girl could manage.
"I am Frank, nice to meet you. I'd shake your hand, but as you can see I'm a bit occupied at the moment."
"You are not the Paineater?" Asked Girl.
Frank took a half step back, "Well I guess I could be considered to be that. It's rather metaphorical, isn't it? Is that what the villagers call me?"
"Yes," hesitated Girl. "So you are just a man then?"
"I am a man, though I take exception to being referred to as 'just' a man!" Frank smiled. "You avoided my question, what is it that you want?"
Girl looked at her feet on the grassy ground, then lifted her head and looked Frank in the eye as he towered above her. "I want answers to satisfy my curiosity."
Frank betrayed no emotion. "I have a feeling, Girl, that you are wise beyond your apparent years. Most who look upon me grovel in fear, but I have never offered reason for people to fear me. Most who seek me ask from me the impossible. But you, Girl, you ask for answers!
"You will get answers, those that I can provide." Frank smiled, his face losing much of it's imposing demeanor. "This is the first time someone has asked for answers!"
Frank waited patiently while Girl shifted her weight from foot to foot awkwardly, trying to think of her first question.
"You said you weren't a monster, and you are a man, so why do you look like a monster?"
"I've lived in the mountains for a long time, my burden is heavy. I guess it has changed me over time." Frank waited expectantly.
"How can you carry such a large Stone?" questioned Girl.
Frank turned his head a bit to look at his burden, "I guess it depends on your perception. I'd not say my Stone is large. It once was smaller, but I've grown stronger as it's grown larger."
Frank leaned in conspiratorially, "I'll tell you a secret about Stones. They're really all the same size!
"It's only our perception that changes. Most folks won't show you their Stone, but here you can see the whole of mine, on display, so you of course think that it is quite large."
Frank grinned amiably, but Girl was not convinced. Then, changing tack she asked, "Why do you live in the mountains, and why have you come down to the foothills?"
Frank turned and looked back at the mountains a moment before returning his gaze to Girl and answering. "When I was young my Stone was very big, my burden was great. I knew I needed to be strong enough to bear it so I sought out isolation that I might not be distracted from growing stronger.
"It was immense at first, the task before me. But little by little I grew strong enough to lift my Stone. Over time I grew in my stamina, so that now I don't ever need to put it down. Then it came time to grow the strength in my legs, so that I could come down into the foothills. That took much longer."
"And why do you come down to the foothills?" Prompted Girl.
"Oh, of course, I had forgotten that part. That answer is simple, I was lonely. I came down to seek out human companionship. It's lonely in the mountains all by yourself!"
Girl smiled with a glow of self satisfaction that only comes from pitting your wits against another's and catching them in an inconsistency. "So why do you leave again? Huh?"
Frank returned the smile, but his was a slow confident, pleased smile. "Well, you do see to the heart of things, don't you?
"To answer that question I will need to show you something. It might startle or disturb you. I've been accused of being a fell warlock and practitioner of dark arts before. But such things are nonsense, of course.
"Would you please show me your Stone?"
Girl delayed for a second, trying to figure out what was coming. Trying to think a few steps ahead so as not to be caught out. Trying to determine if she should really trust Frank.
Girl reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, angular, rough Stone large enough to cover her palm. Looked at it for a moment, then offered it for Frank to inspect. "Happy?"
"I am very knowledgable in the nature of Stones, having such a large one as I do. Yours is unusual, it is broken..."
Frank hesitated a moment. "Place that Stone against mine if you please. Here, let me kneel."
Frank knelt and lowered the edge of his gigantic platform so that Girl could reach the very edge of his Stone.
Girl reached out and touched the Stone in her hand to Frank's Stone. Where they touched the surfaces melded, joining together in a seamless whole. The overall effect had added a rough angular protuberance to Frank's own Stone.
Girl's head snapped to the side seeking explanation from Frank's face. Frank forestalled her unvoiced question with an answer clearly at the ready.
"I have borne a great weight for so long now. I see others with their own burdens, their own Stones, and I can not help but feel sad for them. I know what it is like, I know how hard carrying a Stone is. How can my heart do anything but be moved by the sad plight of my fellows? How can I not feel their aches and pains? How can I just sit back on my mountain, when I know I can bring some small ease to the world.
"I am strong, and I can carry just a little bit more, just a little more of the world's burdens."
Girl realised her mouth was hanging open. "This is why your Stone is so misshapen!" She said to force it to close. Frank nodded.
Girl sagged visibly, dumbfounded by this fact. She stared at the spot where the Stone in her hand had been left behind on Frank's Stone. It was still clearly visible there, that familiar shape, that familiar weight that had always been with her. It's angles stood proud on the surface, it was now forever with Frank, a part of his Stone.
Girl felt giddy,"You mean to tell me that you can take people's Stones, take their burdens from them and we won't have to carry them?" Girl was not at all sure she liked this idea, that people could use Frank to selfishly offload their own Stones to be free of their burdens while the truly selfless Frank raised no objections.
Frank was still for a moment and Girl noticed something wet tracing a trail down Frank's cheek. It wasn't sweat this time.
"No."
"But I don't understand. I can see my old Stone right there!"
Frank looked tired, worn out by carrying his load and emotionally drained. "Look at your hand," he simply said.
Girl looked and stood up shock straight. There was the Stone she had put to Frank's. It was still in her hand. She ran her fingers over its old familiar surface, the sharp edges, the rough surfaces. She checked to see if it was also still a part of Frank's.
It was there, exactly the same as it had been for all the years she'd carried it and exactly the same as the one still in her hand.
Again Frank answered the question still formulating in Girl's mind, "Your burden is yours and I cannot take it from you, but you can share it with any compassionate, empathic soul. I now bear your burden along with all the others, along with mine, but you will still always bear your burden.
"I cannot lighten your load for you, but I can bear it with you. Together we can strain under the load."
Girl crinkled her forehead, she didn't understand, "Why? Why would you make more burden, introduce more weight of Stones into the world? Why would you take on some else's load in addition to your own if it didn't lessen theirs?"
Frank smiled a sad, rueful smile, "Some small ease I can bring to the world.
"We are together now, we bear the same burden, each of us, to the full extent, individually. But at least you will not bear it alone. Forevermore you may look upon my Stone and see where you have touched my burden with yours and know that you are not alone. I will bear it too."
Girl quietly mulled this over.
"You are more like me than I'd initially realised," said Frank after a while.
"How so?" replied Girl, absently.
"You carry a massive burden. That Stone in your hand is not all of your Stone. I said earlier that your Stone was broken, where are the other pieces? What else do you have in your pockets?"
Girl squirmed. She considered saying that he was wrong, but it seemed he was well attuned to the nature of people's Stones. Deciding against it she put her hands back in her pockets and pulled out rough faced, jagged edged Stone after Stone.
When her pockets were empty she pulled off her shoes and turned them over. Shards of Stone fell from her shoes where she'd hidden them from sight. It was clear that they poked and cut her feet, even as she walked.
When the shoes were empty she reached into her jacket and yet more Stones joined the growing pile. Under her clothes Stones appeared from, and many other places. By the end there was a large pile in front of them both about the same size as Frank's large single Stone.
"You broke it down so you could hide it from the world, Girl, but it was clear to me from the moment I saw you that you bore quite a burden.
"It would be my pleasure to share of this burden, as much as I can take. To the limit of my strength.
"I cannot say I could carry it all, but what I can I will happily."
Girl looked at her Stones on the grass before her and looked up at the furry face of Frank. "On one condition," said Girl, "let me bear some of your burden too, so that you will always know that you are not alone either."
Frank's face opened up, raw emotion showing in his eyes, his voice cracked and a tear rolled down his other cheek, "You truly are like me, you are The Paineater. My Paineater."
"So I am," mused Girl, "so I am."

“You really had to go out all the way, huh?” Bakugo grumped, kneading the pulsating ache on his head. “Released a new definition of anger. Maybe if you did that, you wouldn’t be in the top twenty.”
“Shut up, do you want to go again? I need to take out the frustration for tomorrow.” You said sourly, reaching out for the remote then turn to change out of your hero costume.
To explain the backstory, Bakugo decided to do a risky move to stop a villain's quirk that reacted to pain. But in the end, everyone escaped with minor injuries, the police took care of the aftermaths of the villain, and you had token two years off of your husbands life. Regardless how ape-shit crazy you went, you’re just glad he’s-
“BREAKING NEWS!” An shout from the TV snapped you out of your thoughts. “Pro Hero: ‘Dynamight’ tests the mighty of his wife!”
Oh? Well this will be interesting.
“Witnesses says that after Dynamight defeated the villain, ‘Paineater’ he had a bitter taste of the wrath from his wife, ‘H/N’! Heres the actual footage...”
They proceeded by showing a shaky video recording of you and Bakugo cursing like sailors, to most of your conversation was censored out:
"You -BEEP-ing idiot! Do you know how -BEEP-ing risky that was?! You might've -BEEP-ing survived getting minor bruises but by the time I'm -BEEP-ing finished with you, your -BEEP- will be mine!" You said, tugging Bakugo by the ear.
"The -BEEP- wrong with you, Y/N?! We're -BEEP-in' heros, of course we're going to get -BEEP-!" Bakugo attempted to remove himself from your hold, only upgrading him to a knock on the head.
"Bakugo, so-help-me I'll-"
Your speak is cut out, immediately switching to the mid-aged lady who appeared to be attempting to hide her smile.
"If there isn't anyone to keep Dynamight in check, its surely will be his wife. Switching back to you, Momoshosi.."
Bakugo scoffed, averting his eyes to focus on getting getting his shirt off, "damn news. Always making me sound like I'm the submissive one."
Let's say that Bakugo made sure you stayed in your lane tonight.

Innerspace exploration - 21 Feb 2017
[23:19:32] <Wedjat> ok [23:19:42] <Wedjat> that was just some imps, a lycan, and a couple paineaters I think [23:20:04] <Wedjat> just general attacks on inadequacy, inability to fulfill desires, things just "going to go poorly!", fear of being unloved/unwanted or something [23:20:10] <Wedjat> (not in that order) [23:20:22] <Wedjat> then I felt a tugging towards another part of my innerspace [23:20:40] <Wedjat> so I explored that to find... a black mountain range, and beneath it a field of like... bubbling tar? [23:20:49] <Wedjat> and something that oversaw it [23:21:08] <Wedjat> at first the description my mind provided was 'sulfur dragon', but when I SAW it it seemed skeletal and now the word my mind provides is gargoyle [23:21:15] <Wedjat> the basis of that space, and the demon, seemed to be something like... [23:21:21] <Wedjat> "This is what you truly are, all of these terrible things." [23:21:39] <Wedjat> focused primarily on sexual depravity but with a minor also-focus on me just... generally being an ass [23:22:04] <Wedjat> and I am able to resist the implication, the idea that "all of the terrible things I've ever felt/believed about myself are the TRUTH" [23:22:06] <Wedjat> because I had my wings [23:22:11] <Wedjat> but I had the feeling that, if I hadn't had those [23:22:16] <Wedjat> I would've been dragged into that muck [23:22:22] <Wedjat> so the idea is that 'daily trudging through life' [23:22:29] <Wedjat> if I'm pulled into that territory [23:22:31] <Wedjat> is enduring that hell [23:22:40] <Wedjat> The field of tar seemed MASSIVE [23:22:46] <Wedjat> the demon seemed relatively small [23:22:53] <Wedjat> but it probably wasn't the actual main overseer of that area [23:22:58] <Wedjat> it wasn't my Deviant, I don't think [23:23:06] <Wedjat> Because I've seen that before, like a giant three-eyed wolf [23:23:10] <Wedjat> mixed with something else [23:23:22] <Wedjat> anyway that's when I broke to report [23:23:27] <Wedjat> now I need to recenter... [23:24:58] <Wedjat> it's my shikai that I really need to cleanse [23:25:00] <Wedjat> after I do things like that [23:25:07] <Wedjat> My inner eye gets stuck on the sight of... awful crap [23:25:24] <Wedjat> need a positive memory to shift to [23:25:30] <Wedjat> a postiive sight, a good thing to see [23:29:11] <Wedjat> ~frustrated sigh~ [23:29:18] <Wedjat> More imps, more general feeling of inadequacy

Spaceverse Phanos / Gaia sketches!
This features a lot of paineater characters hailing from Phanos, or folks that currently live there too, along with some characters who originally came from Gaia. This category has a lot of overlap with the tons of Faer sketches that are coming up, as a lot of characters have moved from one planet to the other over the course of the RP, and family ties stretch across both. Sketches that were already in a previous batch or saved for the Faer ones won't be included here for now.
In order, we have: Tarsus, Agneta aka Nettie, Thea, Titus, Kara, Diana (dating Al from Phanos), Cyrus, Kyra, Tigerlily (her mother Dahlia moved to Phanos and married Cyrus), Damon, Magnus, Fiona, Eamon, Cassian Ketos (from Faer, but just happened to be on this page), Rory, Divya (also a Faer character), Donovan, his daughter Hazel, older Hazel and Kara, Hazel with Kara again, Jean Paul (from Gaia), Helena, Titus, Adam with his kids Luisa, Dawa and Tiago (aka Tiggy), Adam with Tiggy, Adam solo, , Corrine, and Seamus.
Then we have some older sketches, including: Adam with his mom Athena (in previous verse, her name was Anna), his dad Tyran, Tarsus, Tyran and Adam using their powers, Anton, Dr. Dorian with his daughter Marta (Gaian but they later move to Phanos), Alex and Fabi Dionne (ditto), an older Alex, Kliff, Pauline, Jean Paul, Pauline, and Ernesto (in this verse, he's a phantasm from Illumina, but this is an older sketch of him from an older story.) These still need Spaceverse AU versions, but I wanted to archive these older drawings for reference.
Sakume owns a lot of these characters, including Tarsus, Titus, Kara, Cyrus, Tyran, Athena, and Damon, and I own the others here.
