Leodore was just finishing up his last pages of paperwork when his phone lit up and a gentle sound played for a moment. He picked up his phone and looked and read the message. Tiamenti? Who was that? He then remembered the panda and he began to feel his cheeks heat up. W-Was it her? He didnt know how to reply since he wasn’t sure if it was her or not. Maybe he’ll just take the safe route and ask.

Leodore hesitated to press the send key for a little but finally took a deep breath and hit send. He was hoping that it was her. After he had left the tea shop he couldn’t stop thinking about her. His thoughts were clouded by daydreams about the panda which made it difficult to complete his tasks. But no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t get her out of his head. Her eyes, her kindness towards him, just thinking about it made him blush even more. He finished up his work and cleared his desk. He grabbed his blazer and his bag and made his way out of the office. As he rode the elevator down he thought about what his next move was going to be. Should he be straightforward and ask her out on a date or be subtle and visit the tea shop often? As he stepped out of the elevator he took out his phone and eagerly waited for a reply.

If she hadn’t had such a darn stubborn backbone, she’d have leaned away at how close he’d gotten.

As it was, those chocolate brown eyes were suddenly all she could see and it felt like static was jumping down her spine and through her tail. He was close enough she could feel his breath on her whiskers and that deep voice seemed just a notch deeper. She wondered, for a brief moment, if she wouldn’t just melt off her chair right then and there. Oh my… what have I just gotten myself into? she thought in a daze.

Hazel eyes stared unblinkingly for a moment longer before she finally took a breath to speak. The gears in her head were slow to turn however, seeming to be bogged down. She suddenly felt overheated and couldn’t help but wonder if it had gotten warmer in the last few seconds or if it was just her. “Well… I can certainly say I wouldn’t mind,” she whispered.

Just as she realized her voice had come out in a dangerously suggestive tone her whole mental, and nearly physical, meltdown was brought to an icy halt with the sound of shattering glass.

Her head whipped to the counter and her ears came to attention as she saw glass shards exploding up and out as the metal grate of her industrial ten count brewer station slid off it’s holster with a grating noise disturbing enough to rival claws on chalkboard. Her brain burst with a kaleidoscope of emotions as the whole mess clamored to the ground behind the bar, ranging from fear, anger, concern, frustration, and more interestingly, disappointment. Her ears flattened against her head as she hopped off the chair, all previous mental instances being flung into the very back of her mind. “If you’ll excuse me, Mr. Lionheart,” she said, glancing to him as her air of professionalism materialized instantly. “Looks like I have a situation to attend to.”

She abruptly turned and walked quickly to the counter, rounding the corner into the preparatory part, hardly batting an eye at the shards scattered everywhere as she nimbly stepped around them.

Anna looked on the verge of tears as she trembled in the far corner of the bar area, the broken glass and large grate barricading her in. “I’m sorr-“

“You’re fine, get the brush and dustpan,” the red panda ordered pointedly. She herself headed for the broom tucked just behind the brewer. “Don’t worry folks,” she hollered, her voice carrying easily through the tea-shop. “We’ll be in working order here shortly!”

ILIGAN CITY, Nov. 5 -- The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) announced that depositors of the closed Rural Bank of Maigo (Lanao del Norte), Inc. have until November 13, 2020 to file their deposit insurance claims.

Based on the latest PDIC data, deposit insurance claims for 419 deposit accounts with aggregate insured deposits amounting to PhP2.6 million have yet to be filed by depositors. 

Data also showed that as of September 30, 2020, PDIC had paid depositors of the closed Rural Bank of Maigo (Lanao del Norte), Inc. the total amount of PhP59.5 million, corresponding to 95.8% of the bank’s total insured deposits amounting to PhP62.1 million.

Depositors are advised to file their claims either online via electronic mail (e-mail) at pad@pdic.gov.ph or through postal mail or courier addressed to the PDIC Public Assistance Department, 6th Floor, SSS Bldg., 6782 Ayala Avenue corner V.A. Rufino Street, Makati City.

Claims may also be filed personally at the PDIC’s Public Assistance Center in Makati City on a per appointment basis. 

To make an appointment, depositors may call the Public Assistance Hotline at (02) 8841-4141 or at Toll-Free number 1-800-1-888-7342 or 1-800-1-888-PDIC, send an e-mail to pad@pdic.gov.ph, or send a private message at PDIC’s official Facebook account,www.facebook.com/OfficialPDIC.

When filing claims through e-mail, scanned copies or photo images of the signed and accomplished Claim Form, evidence of deposit (i.e., savings passbook, certificate of time deposit, etc.), and one valid photo-bearing ID with the depositor’s signature should be attached to the e-mail. 

A scanned copy or photo image of the first and last page of the passbook, or the front and back portion of the certificate of time deposit should be sent as e-mail attachments.

For claims filed personally or via postal mail or courier service, depositors are advised to enclose the accomplished and signed Claim Form, original Savings Passbook and/or Certificate of Time Deposit and photocopy of one (1) valid photo-bearing ID with the depositor’s signature.

The depositors are further advised that additional documents and/or original copies of documents submitted via e-mail may be required by PDIC, as necessary, in the course of evaluation and processing of claims.

The Claim Form can be downloaded from the PDIC website http://www.pdic.gov.ph/files/New_PDIC_Claim_Form.pdf. The Claim Form is free and there is no fee for filing deposit insurance claims.

Depositors who are below 18 years old should mail or submit either a photocopy of their Birth Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) or a duly certified copy issued by the Local Civil Registrar. 

Representatives of claimants are required to mail or submit an original copy of a notarized Special Power of Attorney of the depositor or parent of a minor depositor. The Special Power of Attorney template may be downloaded from the PDIC website.

The last day for filing deposit insurance claims was moved to November 13, 2020 from September 14, 2020 to allow the depositors more time to prepare the required documents before filing their claims, and to ensure that affected depositors are not disenfranchised because of the enhanced community quarantine.

Under the PDIC Charter, depositors are given two years from bank takeover to file deposit insurance claims with the PDIC. Rural Bank of Maigo (Lanao del Norte), Inc. was taken over by the PDIC on September 14, 2018 after it was ordered closed by the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on September 13, 2018.

Depositors who will not be able to file their deposit insurance claims with PDIC on or before November 13, 2020 may file a claim against the assets of the bank with the Liquidation Court (Regional Trial Court - Branch 5, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte) under Sp. Proc. No. 19-1788. Payment of these claims shall be subject to availability of assets of the closed bank, legal priority and approval of the Liquidation Court.

Depositors who have outstanding loans or payables to the bank will be referred to the duly designated Loans Officer prior to the settlement of their deposit insurance claims.

How the Assisi Loop Helped Luke with Recovery from Burns Sustained in the California Wildfires

I find it almost impossible to wrap my mind around the devastation wrought by wildfires in California. My heart goes out to all the victims, but of course, I especially feel for the cats who are lost and injured in the fires. We recently featured Buttercup, who ended up in three different shelters while her humans were displaced by the Camp Fire. Today, I’d like to introduce you to 13-year-old Luke.

Luke was rescued and reunited with his owners after the Tubbs fire. He was treated at Windsor Animal Hospital in Santa Rosa for burns, dehydration, and pain. Luke was found four miles from his owners’ destroyed home. Sadly, this wasn’t Luke’s first experience with fire – he was rescued from a fire as a kitten.

Luke’s Treatment

Treatments of Luke’s burns included lavage and wound care using gentle disinfectants and medicated creams.

To help give Luke a speedy recovery and pain management from his recent burns, the hospital staff added additional treatments from their physical rehabilitation department, including the Assisi Loop. “Cold laser and pulsed magnet therapy treatments give the wounds the boost needed for optimal tissue repair and to provide pain management,” said Kristen Hagler, RVT, VTS (Physical Rehabilitation), CCRP, CVPP, OACM, CBW. “These therapies stimulate the body’s natural pain management and reparative systems, which are most sluggish in early stages of injury.

The staff used the Loop to treat multiple burn victims. Other treatments for these cats (and dogs) included would care, and, for cats with respiratory smoke inhalation, which varied in severity, inhaled medications and oxygen.

The Assisi Loop supports healing from burns

“The Loop helped to support healing in many ways,” said Kristen. “First, it was a treatment which could be performed multiple times a day with very little stress to the cat.” The Loop can be applied over bandages and all the cats needed to do was lie there during the 15 minute treatment time. Since so many cats were affected by the fire, the hospital had volunteers helping with caring for them. “The Loop’s ease of application required very little training to use properly,” said Kristen, “Loops were placed directly over the bandages, with all feet typically being treated at once and the cat sleeping peacefully. By providing an adjunctive pain management tool also while supporting the natural healing abilities of the body, the cats treated showed accelerated healing and less need for opioids and oral pharmaceutical pain medications.”

Assisi Animal Health donated the Loops to Windsor Animal Hospital.

Luke was reunited with his family and brother Jake. They were almost identical before the fire. As you can see in the photos, Luke lost a lot of weight and muscle mass during his ordeal.

Luke has since made a full recovery. Two of his digits ended up being fused together during the process of healing from the deep burns, but they’re not affecting him negatively.

How the Assisi Loop Works
