Pandangguhan Song

𝑴𝒚 10-𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝑱𝒂𝒖𝒏𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓
As a city girl born and raised in Manila, my eyes always widen whenever I see forests, cows, mountains, sheep, and oceans. Being part of a family without any province, it can take me 3-4 years at times to reconnect with nature. My cousins often tease me for being dramatic because I shout, 'Look! There's a mountain!' and capture thousands of photos until my phone runs out of storage. The smell of cows' dirt never disgusts me; I'd rather lose my hearing to the sound of sheep than listen to my noisy neighbors in Manila. The salty air every night is much better than the polluted air outside our house. Every view in Masbate was breathtaking. Now, you might confirm that I am indeed dramatic, but there's a reason behind it.
The 19-hour trip to Masbate was entirely worthwhile. Upon arriving on the island, I could already hear 'habal-habal' and 'padyak' riders offering rides to those passengers who were just getting off the bus. Hospitality was the first characteristic I encountered among the locals. They eagerly pointed out every street and structure we passed. People in Masbate love their fish—different varieties since they live by the sea. On our way to Mataba Island, we even saw a flying fish and jellyfish. While staying there, we met Nanay Minda, a perfect embodiment of their hospitality. She let us stay in her nipa hut, where we watched the sunset and sipped the hot coffee she prepared. I witnessed their vibrant festival celebrations, where music blasted until six in the morning without any complaints from neighbors. I was also surprised to see a poster labeling 'kwek-kwek' as squid balls—how does that make sense? Sometimes, we experienced days without signal or WiFi, and their electricity cuts off at 9:00 AM. How do they manage that?
Despite these experiences, I know that Manila and Masbate share similarities in daily life: high food prices, bustling neighborhoods, and early risers. My 10-day journey in Masbate taught me to embrace their culture and island life. The two days without signal or WiFi were surprisingly peaceful—no phone notifications to distract from admiring the sea, sunset, and mountains. I learned the value of experiencing things outside my comfort zone and accepting situations as they are.
On the 10th day of our journey, as we headed back to Manila to resume our student responsibilities, people waved goodbye and shared snacks for the bus ride. I'll never forget the elderly lady who gave us freshly picked caimito. Now, I miss waking up early for sunrises, seeing mountain silhouettes, staying out until 11 PM, and of course, the people. It's been a week, yet the memories remain vivid in my mind.

The first project, "Kariton ng Bagong Buhay at Pag-asa," provides kariton or food carts made by current inmates. Three former prisoners were given kariton with cooking equipment and ingredients they could use to start selling food.
[Judge Maria Sophia Solidum-Taylor, Presiding Judge of the Metro Manila Regional Trial Court 3] also said that this project is a way to give hope and inspiration to the inmates to prevent them from falling into depression and addiction.
"I call upon the national government and the Congress, the Senate, to institutionalize, to put into law the institutionalization the aftercare, the livelihood program for PDLs, drug offenders para mabigyan talaga sila ng second chance in life," Judge Taylor said. "Because these people, just like us, we're all flawed. But if you give them a chance and if you give them hope, magbabago po talaga sila."
The other project is "Padyak Para sa Pagbabago," which was initiated by Superintendent Lino M. Soriano, City Jail Warden. It aims to support the livelihoods of both current and former prisoners.
Manila Mayor Hon. Maria Sheilah "Honey" Lacuna-Pangan said in her speech at the event that these projects are important to give former inmates something to look forward to when they leave the prison.
Kaya lang, napakahirap talaga siguro ng buhay ngayon," she told the inmates.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Communication Center, funded by the Rizal Technological University Laboratory High School Batch 1993 and in active participation of Judge Taylor was also opened during the event.
The facility is located at the North Sector of Manila City Jail Male Dorm and will offer free 15-minute access to video conferencing and phone calls between PDL and their loved ones.

Weird Q and A
What do you do when you get weird questions?
After trying out MatchaME around ina's sleepy town last weekend with Vici and my heavy pouch, dad told me: Matulin din pala 'yan noh? Naiwan mo ako. 'Di mo man lang ako nilingon. LOL. LELS. Must be the sign na ituloy na ang padyak to San Pedro muna since mas onti ang ahon sa route na 'yun, I think. I spent time with my possibly new anak-anakan na ka-birthday ng bunso kong kapatid. UGH. May bagong salta na naman pero kasi, this baby girl is actually an odd ball in her fam. She's eight years old and siya 'yung almost ka-age nung bunso. She's also the one na mas malala pa tantrums sa akin nung bata ako pati sa kapatid ko. :p She loves pets and she's trying her luck in her new hamsters kasi nakain ng pusa 'yung last hamster niya. Let's call her T. Obviously, she has sepanx kasi dad niya always flies for work. T: 'Di ka matutulog dito? Why? May pasok ako ng Monday. Ikaw rin 'di ba? So, kahit matulog ako dito, 'di rin tayo makakapagkulitan. Balik din ako next time. T: When ka babalik? March most likely. T: Why March? Why not Feb? Aywaw. Feb pa nga pala. Sige. Balik akong Feb. Sorry na. LOL. T: Why is there dog years and human years? Why is Vici old na pero he looks like a puppy pa? Why is his eyes not black anymore? (Nahirapan akong sagutin 'to, honestly.) It's easier to take care of dogs if you know what their human years are. 'Di ba Vici looks like a puppy but he's a lolo na. 11 years may be young in human years, but in dog years, Vici is 77 na so he's likely to have eyes that are not black anymore. He might go blind some time sooner or later, too.
T: Is Vici gonna die? That's for sure, but we don't know when; so, we'd have to make the most of the time we have with him and the time he has for us, too. Okay?
T: Why do you have too many earrings? Because I'm bored and I'm not cool.
T: Why do you have many tattoos? Because I'm bored and I'm not cool.
T: You are cool and not boring. Hahahahaha. Okay. Sabi mo e.
T is pretty much a creative critter which is still an arguable skill set, generally speaking. ;)
Dad naman egged me to watch Instant Father (?) as Netflix ranked it #2 sa feed niya. I gave in, so ayun na nga. Third time to watch niya with me para raw mas magets niya. LELS. Sabi ko, baka naman maluha na naman siya for the third time. Ayun, naluha nga. Was replying to some people in between. Medyo okay naman 'yung movie in general. Mabagal lang pacing for me. Lagi namang ganun mga PH films, so letting that bit go. I had to answer questions din while at it. D: Anak, ganun ba talaga aneurysm? It really depends e. It's like winning a lottery. You may be able to detect it, but addressing it is an entirely different topic. In the film, 'di naman nasabi 'yung extent niya, perhaps, para 'di overwhelming sa mga nanonood lalo 'yung naglalaba or nagluluto while watching.
D: Bakit 'yung kapitbahay natin, naoperahan and na-save?
:D LOL. Saka 'yung make up nung anak, medyo pale ng slight. Let's not go there na lang. Ayokong basagin trip nung mga makers/creators.
D: Anak, dapat 'yung magulang ang mauna talaga. Puwede naman. Puwedeng hindi. Depends talaga, dad e. Circle of life. Lahat naman mamatay. Una-unahan lang talaga.
D: Nak, ako mauuna sa'yo 'di ba? Hahahahahaha. I will try my best para happy ka sa wish mo na 'yan. 'Wag ka mag-worry. Okay naman ako ngayon. :P
Huy.
1 boy, 1 girl. Daddddd, ano na naman 'yan? Dati, wish mo new apo. Ngayon, meron na. Bakit ako? Menopause na ako. Dami ko na nga white hair e.
D: Anong menopause? Sus. Lagi ka nga bumibili ng napkin e. 'Di na lang ako mag-napkin. Ganun na lang. 'Yung bahay-bata ko, akin lang 'to. LOL.
Since 3 years old because andyan e. LOL.
Nagkamustahan din kami nung 4th anak-anakan ko. Actually, kaya ako umuwi is because I wanna check on her irl. Spiral szn na naman as she's waiting for yet another results ng exam. Puro na lang exam.
B: Ate, paano 'pag hindi ako nakapasa? Mag-work ka then mag-try ka ulit. Ganun lang.
B: Ate, bakit kasi ito dream ko? Ewan ko rin sa'yo. Dream mo 'yan e. 'Di siya madali. First in the family. Kaya obviously, super pressure; but, just keep at it.
B: Ate, ang layo pa. Pero malayo na 'di ba? Dati, ayaw mo na. Tinigil mo na, pero andito ka na. Malayo pa nga, pero you're on track.
No 'di ba? Tignan natin if may magpa-check up sa'yo.
B: Ate, paano mga kapatid ko? Bata pa sila. Bata ka pa rin naman. Pare-pareho lang kayo.
B: Puwede ba mag-work tapos mag-med? Puwede. Try mo. May offer ka naman 'di ba? Malapit pa sa house. Try mo para makita mo difference ng real world sa school life. Dali.
Feelings are valid kahit ano pa 'yan. 'Di naman ako magsasawang ulit-ulitin since 2015 ba? :p Andito lang ako. Kaya diyan ka lang din. Kapit lungs. Tiwala lungs.
B: Ate, kaya ko ba? Depends. Minsan, yes. Minsan, no. Minsan, I don't know. Pero, for sure, kung kaya mo or 'di mo kaya, 100000% support ako, kami sa'yo kahit 'di halata most of the time.
B:Gusto ko na sa Manila. Okay. Sure ka ba? Open naman house ko lagi sa'yo. Punta ka lang. Pasundo kita. BGC tayo ulit para happy ka.
B: When ka Japan? Malapit na. Kaya gawin mo na tat design ko. LOL.
Hihihihi. No pressure.
;) Just you wait. Ako nga 34 na ako nakapunta e. So ikaw, before 30, sure akong makakapunta ka na doon. Malay mo, next year na 'di ba? Tuloy mo lang hustle mo.
B: Okay ka lang ba? Hahahahaha. Next question please.

Sherep Meg-bike
Today, I had a catch up session with one of my good friends who wants to learn how to ride. Never too late talaga because at 41, go na go talaga siya sa isa sa mga 2023 goals niya.
Also, biking brings me back to my childhood days na may onting time akong mag-bike sa street namin. I never liked dolls and dress up. Lego saka bike, ‘yun ang trip ko. Periodt. I guess, it’s also where my queer era started. Yes, at a young age, banas na talaga ako gender eme vibes. Nakikipag-agawan pa akong maging red or blue ranger kasi ayoko ng pink and yellow na colors. Kahit ako ‘yung pink or yellow, feel ko mas dasurv ko pa rin red or blue. Tapos, ending, ayoko na lang makipaglaro. Mag-swing na lang ako. Or seesaw. LOL. Saka bakit ‘di leader mga pink and yellow rangers? Bakiiiittt? Speaking of which, siguro ang pinaka oks kong ride is mga 70 KM from Liwa to Iba na hindi malayong side and pabalik, ganun din ‘yung route. :D Side Note: Ianhow... nakuha ko siyang contributor sa content a few years back. Siya pa mismo noon sumasagot kasi ‘di pa siya busy masyado. Upcoming pa siya that time. HAHAHAHA. Sobrang simple lang. Most ng bikes nila, walang pakak na pangalan. Pati gears nila, basic since wala pa silang merchs noon, unlike... ayoko na lang mag-talk kasi I remember a number of content peeps na... Feeling ko ma-starstruck ako tapos magpapa-sharawt ako for my dad. I rarely get starstruck kahit pa nakatabi ko na si Chito Miranda na ang solid ng dating sa totoong buhay. Kahit si Ebe pa. LOL. ‘Yung saktong pigil lang ng kalooban because the RBF lives on. LOL. LOL. Kahit super basic. Pero, I’m not complaining. Then, sa battle niya with his kidney problem, ‘di siya nahiyang i-share though sana noon niya pa sinabi, but, oks lang din. Hoping he gets super well soon and looking forward talaga ako to meet him and kwentuhan lang. :D Sa ride sa Liwa-Iba Malapit and pabalik, marami-rami rin akong napagtanto like: -Kaya ko naman talagang mag-solo ride kaso bakit wala akong kahit anong tools. LOL. Sinadya ko ‘to kasi ‘di naman liblib ‘yung lugar. PERO syempre, palo sa pwet ‘yan. Kaya ‘wag niyo akong tularan.
-Bait ng mga tao sa Liwa area. Before each ride, matik na ‘yan na magpapa-check ako ng gulong sa a little after ng kanto pa-Liwa. Mala-prepaid. -Folding bike vs big bike? The answer is depende sa trip mo. Kasi netong ride ko na ‘to, may mga group of bagets boys na pangmalakasan ang hataw. LOL. Hinayaan ko lang sila kasi sabi ko nga, wala akong pake most of the time basta ‘di ako naabala or wala silang naabala. Then, few kilometers after my chill pace, naabutan ko rin sila. Nagpapahinga. Kumaway. Kaway back naman ako. LOL. Note to self: Matuto mag-inflate ng gulong this 2023 gamit ang tiny hand pump na ‘di digital. LOLLOLLOLL. Hassle pero lifeskill ‘yan, so itawid natin.
-’Pag meron ka, meaning time of the month, mhie, humanda ka sa lahat ng weather conditions. LOL. Kaya ‘pag nag-ride kayo on your very, very red letter days, mag-black na lang kayo or maroon/wine red/burgundy.
Oks naman kaso ‘di tulad ng Rudy and iba pang pakak and well-marketed head gears, medyo, ‘di ako solb. Hahahaha. Shet talaga. I hate baha because sa Southside ko, ngayong 30 years old lang ako nakakaranas ng baha. So ending, nakipagsabayan ako sa mga trucks and cars. ‘Yung iba rumahan, pero syempre, highway tayo so, bahala talaga na lang ako sa life ko. Then, since punggok ako, hanggang lampas tuhod ko ‘yung baha na dinaanan ng big cars and trucks. LOL. Humbling. Iwasan ang pagiging ma-pride and aligaga. LOL. Another lesson learned the hard way. Pero, sige, noted po. Opo.
-There is faith in humanity sa biking kahit maraming hayup in all forms sa daan. As in. Since wala na akong choice, tumawid na ako, then nakisilong. Tinanong kung okay lang ba ako. Sabi ko opo. Then, wala namang naganap na kung ano man kasi mababait din sila. Ako lang talaga ang hindi. Nag-share sila na malimit nga biglang ulan kahit mainit and super sunny levels kaya better daw talagang prepared ako.
-Water is life talaga sa rides. Very good ang Aquaflask for me kasi madalas akong makaiwan ng tubigan. LOL.
‘Yun talaga. Actually, for me, tamad ang biking kasi nga, pabebe rides lang ako. LOL. I remember my first and only spinning class. Katabi namin si Sunshine Cruz. Chixx levels 1000000 pero, mhie, not for me talaga, spinning. Una, ayoko ng all-girl group. Nakakaumay kahit pa Sunshine Cruz ‘yan. Either mixed or male-dominated because testosterone kicks in. -Masarap mag-bike ‘pag may dagat at bundok. HUHUHUHUHU. Sa paanan lang ako. Ganern. Nakakakalma talaga. Saka there’s something about swimming after biking na nakaka-happy in a totes different level lalo ‘pag basang-basa ka sa ulan tapos sabak ka na naman sa matindeng araw. Tapos, time of the month pa. Derecho ligo/banlaw with feelings ka talaga, bro. :D Lels.
-May chance kang maka-meet ng someone sa bike basta ‘wag ka lang masungit like me. LOLOLLOLLOLL. Good luck, dude! Upcoming ride namin ni dad is Pangil area ikot-ikot to Elbi. Yas. No pressure at all. I am soooooo excited to meet Matcha Mamba in the flesh. HAHAHAHAHA. Huy, gaganda ng bikes nila. As in. Pero, again, not my vibe. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Tapos, baka bawiin niya ‘pag nag-away kami ng malala. Pride. Sabi niya, apaka grabe ko naman daw. Sundot ko naman, if I know, gusto lang niya hiramin kaso ayoko nung thought na sasakyan niya ‘yung bike ko like ugh. Arte pa? Arte talaga.
Though, truth be told, mas excited pa tatay ko sa bike kong parating. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Will try to move the meet up this weekend because fucking south to north problems. BTW, ‘yung mga names ng bike, cars and gears like my OG DSLR na si Yellow Four, ‘di naman ‘yan like tatawagin ko sila by their names araw-araw. LOL. Saka, barubal akong gumamit. Laspag AF. Kaya para naman may onting lambing, the names are there. But, Matchamba dasurvs their name. Their as a queer. LOL. Daming alam. Bwiset. Leaving you with this Pingas ahon very near my ina’s sleepy hometown. First, malumot usually ang daan.
