Belize has a tropical climate, so it's important to be prepared for strong sun exposure when you're there.
☀️👙🩳🏖️⛱️🐚Here are some tips on how to protect yourself from sunburn while traveling in Belize:
Use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Apply it liberally 20 minutes before going outside, and reapply every two hours, or more often if you're swimming or sweating.
Wear protective clothing, such as a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and long-sleeved shirts and pants.
Seek shade during the hottest part of the day, from 10am to 2pm.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Be aware that sand and water can reflect sunlight, so you may need to take extra precautions when you're at the beach or on a boat.
If you're going to be swimming or snorkeling, look for a reef-safe sunscreen that doesn't contain oxybenzone or octinoxate, as these chemicals can harm coral reefs.
If you do get sunburned, apply aloe vera gel to the affected area.
Consider using a lip balm with SPF to protect your lips from sunburn.
Be extra careful with children, as they are more susceptible to sunburn than adults.
Remember that sunburn can occur even on cloudy days, so it's important to take precautions even when the sun isn't shining brightly.
By following these tips, you can help protect yourself from sunburn and enjoy your time in Belize. Follow Hazel Adventures Belize for more tips and recommendations when traveling to Belize. 👇⛱️👙🌊☀️🩱🩳👙🐚👇

🤿🌊🐠🦀In scuba diving, *SNB* (Surface Marker Buoy) and *DSMB* (Delayed Surface Marker Buoy) serve distinct purposes, though they are sometimes confused. Here's a clear breakdown of their differences:
Deployment Context:
SMB:
- Used **on the surface** during or after a dive.
- Often towed by divers while swimming to signal their location to surface support (e.g., boats). Common in drift diving or low-visibility conditions.
- May be pre-deployed before descending (e.g., marking a dive site).
DSMB:
- Deployed **from underwater**, typically during ascent or at depth.
- Activated *after* the dive has started (hence "delayed"), often near the end of the dive to mark the diver’s ascent point. Critical for safety stops or drift dives where surfacing away from the boat is expected.
Design and Inflation:
SMB:
- Simple, tube-shaped buoy inflated orally or via a low-pressure inflator **at the surface**.
- Brightly colored (e.g., orange, yellow) and may include reflective tape or a flag for visibility.
DSMB:
- Designed for **underwater inflation**, using a regulator exhaust, oral breath, or dedicated air source.
- Often includes a **reel or spool** with line to attach to the diver, allowing controlled ascent of the buoy from depth.
Purpose:
SMB:
- Primarily for **surface visibility**—alerting boats to divers’ presence during the dive or post-dive.
- Can also mark entry/exit points or underwater features.
DSMB:
- Signals the **ascent location** to surface support, especially in currents or open water.
- Enhances safety by indicating divers’ position during safety stops, reducing the risk of boat strikes.
Skill Level:
SMB:
- Simple to use; requires minimal training (basic surface inflation).
DSMB:
- Requires **advanced skills**—managing buoyancy, line deployment, and inflation while submerged. Poor technique can lead to rapid ascents or entanglement.
Key Takeaway:
SMB = Surface-based marker for ongoing visibility.
DSMB= Submerged-deployed marker for ascent/emergency signaling.
While terms are sometimes used interchangeably, understanding their distinct roles ensures safer diving practices and clearer communication with surface support. 👇🌊🐳🐬🐠

WE DID IT! 🐟 After years of dreaming of being scuba certified we finally did it! This experience was unlike any other. I definitely had to overcome a lot of anxiety and one memorable underwater moment of absolute panic and I am genuinely so proud of myself for pushing through! As much as dealing with the “what if’s” of breathing underwater is a scary process in itself, the reward of being able to swim 60 feet (!!) under the surface of the ocean is absolutely worth it and I can do it with confidence. My whole life when I’ve swam and snorkeled I’ve wanted to be able to stay down and get a closer and longer look at the world below and finally I can! This is a genuine dream come true and we couldn’t have done it without the encouragement and teaching of our instructors Daniel and Vinny and the incredible team at @scubacentertemecula that made the experience so safe and fun. Also thank you to our dad who generously gifted this to us and instilled in us a love and curiosity for the sea. I can’t wait for the next dive! 🤿💗 #PADIDiver #ScubaDiving #CatalinaIsland #ScubaCenterTemecula (at Catalina Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGnSZafgu6w/?igshid=1ajewkbfghbk6
